Hi - We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the VTech VM5254. Make sure that you are pressing and holding the TALK button on the parent unit to ensure that your voice will be heard on the baby unit. The sensitivity of the baby unit to noise depends on the sound detection sensitivity setting. The baby unit can detect small sounds even from the white noise when it is set to the highest setting.
