Hi - We are sorry to hear the VTech DS6771-3 is not working as expected. The 2 cordless handsets and 1 cordless headset that comes with the DS6771-3 are pre-registered to the telephone base. Like many electronic devices, a system reboot may resolve the issue. You can try rebooting your phone system by disconnecting the power from the base then unplugging the batteries on the cordless handset for a minute. Reconnect and test. If the issue still persists, please contact VTech Customer Support for further assistance at 1-800-595-9511. We are open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM PST, Mondays through Fridays.
