If your PS2 is asking for a format disc when you insert a disc it should mean that either the hard drive needs to be reformatted and you would need to get it serviced, or the disc you are trying to play is in a format that is not supported by the PS2 system. Most of the time this message is because the user is trying to play a disc formatted for another country, or it is a copied disc. A customer can't actually purchase a format disc. I hope this helps!
