Volume issues with new Samsung UN55ES6100.
I recently purchased a Samsung UN55ES6100. It has an excellent picture but the volume on the set, even when all the way up, is not that loud. Even with the surround sound system, it still doesn't fill the room up, like my older Samsung 46 inch. Are there known issues in this area. What can I check? The software was updated to version 1025 last week, which made no difference with this issue.

Although the current generation Samsung TVs will no longer offer a VGA port, there are two other ways to connect your PC or Mac to a Samsung TV for monitor functionality: HDMI to HDMI or HDMI to VGA/DVI/Displayport.
That said, the Samsung TVs do not offer wireless or networked monitor capabilities.
Please note, in the computer's operating system, you will need to set the display settings to either clone or extended view and set the computer’s resolution to match that of the maximum resolution of the TV in order to view your computer’s desktop on the TV.
If your computer offers HDMI out, I would highly suggest using this connection, since it is a basic plug-n-play connection (meaning almost no adjustment is needed on the TV or PC).
HDMI to VGA/DVI/Displayport is almost the same as straight HDMI, but in this case, you will want to connect the DVI end of the cable to the computer (if available) and the HDMI into the TV. This is also considered a plug-n-play connection.
Unless otherwise specified by your computer manufacturer, you will need to connect the computer's audio to the TV with a separate cable (3.5mm jack cable from the PC’s audio output to the TV’s DVI/HDMI Audio input), since most computers do not support audio over HDMI, VGA or DVI.

What is the firmware version?
What is the firmware version installed on the refurb unit?
Without being able to access the individual unit in question, it's difficult to determine what the firmware might be - once they leave our factory, they have the latest version available at that time.
The good news is that when you connect it to the Internet or your network, it will update to the latest available firmware. It's a very simple process, and is equivalent to what a new product would also have.

HDMI Inputs and audio out on Samsung BD-E6500
if a device like a PC is connected to one of the BD-E6500 HDMI inputs and the Audio out on the BD-E6500 is connected to a receiver, and the HDMI out is connected to a TV, can the audio from the laptop HDMI be played on the receiver through the BD-E6500 Audio out?
This would largely depend on how the audio signal is being sent from the PC. If both signals are being sent through HDMI, and the output signal is decided after it leaves the player, then it would depend on the receiver.
Otherwise, you might just connect your PC to the TV using HDMI and porting the audio (either RCA analog or digital optical) to the receiver separately.

Is this due to it being refurbished? If so, then I am better off paying $49 and getting a full warranty.

We can't speak on pricing or terms of extended warranties, but I'm sure Best Buy will be happy to assist with that further - we offer it as an idea to have your product covered the longest, since that seemed to be your concern.
You can connect to a network wirelessly, however, the Blu-Ray player needs to be physically connected to a television, and will work with 1 TV at a time.
