If I purchase this player and go internet will it take the place of my cable provider? Will I be able to stream or need to purchase extra software?

Samsung's internet capable devices (including the BD-C5500) will offer subscription based services like Netflix, Vudu and Hulu Plus (Hulu Plus is available on select 3D BD players and Internet@TV TVs); however, access to regular broadcast material, as provided by your cable or satellite provider, may not be accessible. That said, I would suggest contacting your service provider for further information on their own services.

Is there a chance you can get a virus, spam or and any internet generated problems?

Since the 2010 Samsung internet enabled devices (like the BD-C5500) do not offer a traditional browsing experience, do not offer the ability to save unofficial content and collects all of its internet information through Applications that go through Samsung's servers, the chance of getting malicious content is very low.

Does the VCA have an analog tuner for recording over the air, or from cable ?

I need to copy all my old VHS tapes to DVD. Can this unit do this? When Im looking what is that called?

Does VCR mode work with HDMI?

I've seen so many dvd combos that use componet for dvd only

Does this unit include a HDMI cable?

because this unit says it comes with a AV cable and a HDMI cable. as well as at the bottom of the product features it says it includes a HDMI cable. so does it include a HDMI cable?

From the information on the product page, as of this writing, it states that "[the] HDMI cable [is] not included".
