Getting good photos at a concert is tricky. You have low light most of the time followed by constantly changing colored and bright lights. This confuses the cameras when in Auto mode. Compact Cameras have very limited to no Manual Mode. A D-SLR would be best for this kind of photography. The sensor on a D-SLR is bigger and there by gathers more light, the lens is bigger....again...more light and the ISO (sensitivity of the sensor) can be set higher making it work better in LOW light conditions.
There are several entry level D-SLR cameras from Canon, Nikon and Sony that would work well and the cost is not much more than a high end compact camera.

Generally ALL compacts have video mode now.
Very few D-SLR cameras have video mode. The photos will be noticeably better on a D-SLR and the price of an entry level D-SLR...like the Nikon D40.... is not much more than a higher end compact,
