what does iso stand for in a camara

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the setting of sensitivity of the sensor (digital cameras) or the speed of film for film cameras. Changing the ISO will help for use in low light conditions and/or for use of higher shutter speeds, usually needed in sports and nature photography. Use of a higher ISO will produce graininess or noise in the image. Noise reduction features in some digital cameras can help reduce this. There is software that can also help remove noise from an image.

Which is better?

Which one would be a better all around camera. W230 (wide angle), w220, SD770IS or SD1200IS?

My priorities are:

Image quality
Zoom
Low light conditions
Shutter speed
The Sony W230 appears to have Higher ISO (up to 3200) better zoom and better Megapixels...plus tighter focus range (50cm...good for close-up shots). Sony has always been great in low light conditions and having the 3200 ISO will help in low light also. Plus the W230 has more white balance positions giving you truer color.
Hope this helps.

what do you look for in a camcorder

what features
That varies with opinion. Common features are:
Higher "Optical" Zoom. 16x or better
Some form of Camera Stabilization
Mic Input (when you can find it)
Night Shot is helpful.

The record media can be Hard Drive or Memory for connivance. Mini DV is nice also.

Do you need a computer to print pictures from a digital camera

A surprisingly large amount of printers come with a built in Card Reader now. That makes it very easy to print photos without having to use a computer. If your printer does not have a card reader, it should have Pictbridge. This is a special feature built into most digital cameras and printers that allow you to connect the camera directly to the printer without a computer. Check both your manuals for the printer and the camera to see if they support this feature and how to use it.

Would attachable lenses on a Canon 35mm work on a Canon Digital SLR body

If the lenses are Auto Focus they should work just fine. There will be a conversion factor. The sensor on D-SLR Cameras are smaller than the 35mm standard (except the full size sensor cameras).
The Canon D-SLR cameras are at a 1.6 conversion. What that means to you is that any lens you have the millimeters is multiplied by 1.6. So a 100mm lens becomes a 160mm lens, a 28-105mm becomes a
44.8-168mm...etc.

Why won't my laptop detect my cameras all of a sudden?

I attached my camera to the laptop to download some pictures and I get a "can't detect the camera" message on the screen. It happens with my Canon point and shoot and with my Nikon DSLR. Any ideas?
Not saying that this is the problem but I had a similar thing happen. It turned out that I got my USB cables mixed up and was using one that was NOT a data cable...just a cable for charging USB devices.
When I found the correct data cable everything worked fine.
If you have tried different cables and the problem is still happening the connection on the computer might be damaged. Try different ports.
Updated drivers. If it is a Vista OS, a recent update may have changed something. Reinstall you downloading software for the camera....that might help.
You can also take it to your nearest BestBuy and have the Geek Squad take a look.
Hope one of the above ideas work out.

Can I retirieve pictures that were deleted by mistake from my memory card?

That will depend on if you have taken any photos on the memory card since the deletion. When a file or photo is deleted the image itself is not removed but the name is changed to a non-viewable file name...like IMG02011.jpg would be changed to ?MG02011.jpg. This becomes a file tagged for write over. If you have taken more pictures since the deletion, the photos could have been overwritten.
Now....you can get Data Recovery Software that will recover deleted and/or formatted media. I have had very good success with this and have recovered many photos.
Do a search for Data Recovery Software or stop by your nearest BestBuy and have the Geek Squad see if they can recovery the images.

Camcorder Picture Width?

Hello.

I am looking for a digital camcorder to record soccer matches. The width of view is more important than the zoom.
Which camcorders have the widest views?
The camcorder will be positioned via tri-pod a distance of 5 - 25 yards from the pitch. The pitch is typically 50 yds wide, 100 yds long.
Also, i would like to be able to record about 3 hours (or more) without having to change tapes, discs, batteries, etc.

Thank you
A hard drive based camcorder will give you the record time you are looking for....but you will probably still have to change batteries.
You can add a “Wide Angle” adapter to your camera lens to cover a wider area of the field.
