To me, the biggest benefit to spending more for the 8 Series is the voice-activated One Remote. It allows you to change channels, ask questions and look for programming by speaking, rather than hunting for buttons. There is a choice of three apps -- Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung's Bixby. So you can choose the one that best meets your needs. The remote is basically the same one Samsung offers with its more expensive models, and it is marketed as universal, meaning you can use it control other devices connected to the TV. Mine can't do everything for every device I have, and what it can do takes some practice to learn. Because there aren't as many buttons, each one has several levels of functions, and you have learn the sequences. But I still find the One Remote to be the most useful and resourceful one I've ever had. Other benefits of the 8 Series include Ambient mode, which is nice but not something my household uses much. It lets you match your wall color, more or less, with a color on your TV screen. It also has stock images you can use as wall art, or you can use your own photos. There also are 3 HDMI ports, compared with 2 in the 7 series. One of them is eARC, which if I understand, allows enhanced audio that is synced with video to play through HDMI-connected soundbars, speakers, and game consoles.
