Exceeded My Expectations

I recently purchased this ASUS model for my child. She wanted to have a tablet/computer that would run things she likes - from Fallout Vegas to World of Warcraft. I told her that this may not do the job but that we would give it a go. To my total amazement, after loading Steam and a few games, it handled them beautifully - including Fallout Vegas. Then I tried to install WOW but with not enough internal memory I used a 64GB Micro SD and found that it would not install WOW on it, although it had already installed Steam and all of the games I have with it. I then checked the WOW site and found I would have to copy the installed folder manually to the SD card - which I did. I popped it back into the ASUS, went to the proper WOW directory and made a shortcut to WOW.exe and it ran on first click. Wonderful, smooth, enough to impress my 11-year-old, who is rather picky. In short, the device needs a 64GB Micro SD added but then you have plenty of storage for all sorts of games. Be sure to get a fast SD card but the games will run from it smoothly. We will keep the computer and I am happy to have gotten off at such a low cost. The battery life is exceptional as well, despite the fact that there is no auxiliary battery in the keyboard add-on. Nevertheless, it is a superb Windows 8.1 machine for the price.

A Perfect Clone Tool

I needed to clone a hard disk - the C: drive. I had tried cloning software and devices in the past and never got a mirror-image clone. With this unit, I got a perfect mirror-image on the first try. The device is designed for backing up the HD of a laptop computer, but it will also work for a desktop - but the destination drive has to be a notebook computer disk drive. I make regular backups at work and at least once a week I use this for a mirror-image to a little hard drive. Should the main computer crash, the little drive would keep things up and going until I could get a full-size drive in the machine. This means that if my HD on my server goes down, I can have it back up in five minutes and swap it out that evening. I have swapped drives to be certain it all works and it does flawlessly.

Easy Access to Hard Drives

If you have some internal hard drives - perhaps some you have swapped out from your desktop computer but need to get a file from one, this is just the trick. I recently swapped out a 1TB HD and replaced it and upgraded to Windows 8.1. I realized that there were a few things on my old HD (the one I had removed) that I needed. I just popped the HD into this unit and through the USB connection was immediately able to access my old hard drive. This saved me a lot of time that would have been required to reinstall the old drive to get the information from it. Wonderful product that every person with old external HDs laying around should have. Beautiful!

Best Windows 8 Tablet I Have Found

Windows 8.1 has come to an excellent tablet! Having been involved with computers for decades, I am happy to have found this Dell Windows tablet. It performs wonderfully on every Windows application from games to business software. I would highly advise that you get the 64gb since the OS takes a chunk of your available memory. I would also suggest popping a 64gb micro-SD card in the slot for additional storage. I have tried the Acer Icona, and a number of 10-inch Windows tablets and find this one the most powerful and, obviously, compact. Light as a feather yet a serious computer, the Dell gets my highest marks in the Windows 8 category. I will warn you that, as is true with all tablets, the screen is small. If your eyes are sharp or you have some good reading glasses, you will be fine. As always, I recommend that you give it a try and if it is not for you, simply return it to Best Buy within the allotted time period. I am keeping mine and delighted to now have the full power of a Windows 8.1 computer in my pocket!

What a Tablet! Computer! PC! You Name it!

This is one of those computers that is just plain fun. You remember the excitement of getting a computer for the first or even second time, well this unique machine will make you smile and say, "Wow" again. It comes with 8GB of memory and a 500GB HD - (compare that to your tablet). With an i5 processor, this is a serious computer ready for work or play. The large screen is dazzling. It is thin and relatively light weight, but do be careful that you not drop it. Like a size-bigger pair or shoes, remember how you stumbled for a few days? When you carry this around as a tablet, it will feel awkward at first so get used to it. Overall, if you are in the market, I would recommend this device. Give it a trial and you will like it.

I have been a Kindle user since their first reader was released and have enjoyed watching the evolution of their product over the years. The new Kindle HDX is brilliant! The graphics are truly stunning. This little machine, while still a reader, is now a powerful tablet, far exceeding much of its competition. It has a great feel and long battery life and now, with 64gb of memory is ready for just about anything you can throw at it. This Kindle exceeds my expectations and is a delight to own.

A Definite Step Up

Since this device has already been reviewed to death, let me simply say that if you are a PS3 owner, you will immediately be blown away by the improved graphics and performance of the PS4. I know many devices put out an upgrade and it is hardly any different than the earlier model. That's not the case with the PS4. It is an amazing step up! See it for yourself and when one is available, grab it!

Microsoft has produced a serious PC that doubles as a portable Tablet. With the 256gb of internal memory, USB port options, a blazing i5 processor, this is a serious business machine. I find that I can run any and all of my PC programs on this device. The processing speed is beyond any tablet I have used and note that it is a true full-blown PC, not a watered down one. This is a serious tool for any business person and a fantastic computer for anyone wanting a PC. I would recommend that you go and see this in the store and get a feel for the size, weight, etc. and see if it is for you. I love mine!

Finally an iPad that fits in your pocket (large pocket), has a fantastic display and tons of onboard memory. I have waited for the retina display and memory boost and Apple has come through. Having owned iPads since the iPad 1, this is my favorite yet...by far! If you are looking for an outstanding tablet with a seemingly limitless app store and enough memory to do it all, this is probably the tablet for you. I give it 5 stars and two thumbs up...amazing technology!

I caught these on sale at Best Buy and could not resist. The sound with the in-store demo was great, but I know that is with perfect sound tweeking. When I got them home and connected them to a variety of devices I found the sound to be just as exceptional. These are not your $99 headphones. The quality here is dazzling. Not only do they sound and look great, but also, they are rugged, durable, and top quality. I also have the Pro, and must confess that the sound quality with these is quite comparable. I have found that even the beats with lower bit rates come through with sparkling clarity. I would recommend recording your mp3s at a minimum of 192 or even 320 to get the full quality. I will warn you that once you use these, the inferior headphones and earphones will no longer satisfy. Amazing what it does to your music.

I imagine that a Microsoft store could help you with that but a simpler solution may be to pick up a book for beginners explaining the Surface Pro. There are some wonderful ones out there for those just getting started. Good success with your new computer. I have that model also and have very much enjoyed it.

What would you suggest buying a samsunf 2014 or a surface. My husbaand is on the computer alot watchin videos and amoazon along with a few others
I would compare the battery life of the two units you are considering. Since he likes to watch a lot of videos, the one with longer battery life may be the one for him. All the best!

Can the nook get used by a 6 year old for reading and learning purposes?
Books appropriate for all ages are available through B&N. If you want color and sound, as many children's books may offer, you should consider a color Nook, such as the Nook HD or HD+. Get a good protective case in case the child drops the device.

Yes. You will have to get the ebook in a format that Nook can read. Loading books into the Nook that are not from B&N is not a complicated task. Do a Google search and you will find many sites that explain the process, step by step.

Do all Barnes & Nobles Ebooks work on the simple touch?
Barnes & Nobles has thousands and thousands of ebooks and I would doubt that every single one will work. For example, the device would not be suitable for books where color is necessary or important to enjoy the book. Novels, history books, etc. will work just fine. I personally have yet to find a book that will not work on the Nook Simple Touch and I have literally hundreds of books.

how can u only dowload books and other media without unlimited access to internet
.I don't want middle school child to have access to internet.
You need to be somewhere where WiFi is available - such as a Barnes and Noble store, a McDonalds, a Starbucks and thousands of other locations. You can also use the WiFi in your home if you have it. There is no charge for downloading books to the Nook through WiFi.

Is This Just For Books ?
Will this work as a stand alone TABLET, without any of the book stuff ?
Most of the devices in this genre can be "rooted" and used as an android device. I am not sure about the Nook Simple Touch specifically, but out of the box it is a reader. It is not capable of playing games like Angry Birds. It is a monochrome screen so you would probably prefer a color device if you wish to play games too.

DOES IT TALK the books ?
Id like to have it READ BOOKS to me while I drive, etc,,,, Can it read the books, or is there a APP Download ?
The Nook Simple Touch cannot read a book audibly. The Nook HD and HD+ can, but the best voice I have found in a reader comes with the Kindle HD. It is not a robotic voice. Stop by Best Buy and listen to the different readers and you decide what you prefer.
