Good Versatile Monitor for Gaming & Streaming
on May 6, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Samsung has released their new 32" Odyssey G51C LED QHD Freesync gaming monitor, and it doesn't disappoint. The box includes the monitor, base, stand (connects base to monitor), HDMI cable, DP cable, 2 snap-on plastic decor pieces, power cable with transformer (split), and quick user guide/paperwork. The monitor comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* The monitor was extremely easy to put together. The bolt on the bottom of the base simply screws into the bottom of the stand. Tighten with a flat-head or Phillips screwdriver. The top of the stand easily clicks onto the monitor itself and locks into place. It can be removed by pressing a button on the underside of the connection point.
* Great to see a monitor with all movements accounted for. Tilt forwards/backwards ~20-degrees, can be raised up and down ~4.5 inches along a track on the stand (see picture), swivels left and right about 15-degrees each way, and can also rotate 90-degrees to the vertical position. It's a lot of movement for a 32" monitor. In addition, the base offers plenty of support regardless of position.
* 2 HDMI/1 DP ports are enough for most people. Though I don't use the headphones jack on the back of the monitor, that could come in handy if you have a desktop speaker system.
* It has a basic cable management rubber holder on the back/bottom of the stand. If you run your cables over the connection point of where the stand meets the monitor, you can then run the cables down the back side of the stand and through the holder. It's simple, and there is plenty of room in the cable management holder.
* In playing some racing games, the 165Hz refresh rate didn't disappoint. I don't run complex SW on my gaming desktop, but all movement is smooth with very little ghosting.
* The picture is extremely clear and crisp. The blacks could probably be a little better, but overall, I'm extremely pleased with the overall picture, brightness, contrast, etc.
* The on-screen menu is easy to navigate, and the joystick control is easy to access, being on the front bottom of the monitor screen.
* There is ample "grip" area on the bottom of the screen itself to move it without getting your fingers on the screen itself.
* When streaming Netflix, HBOmax, and others, the picture was crystal clear with great color/contrast. It was as good as most regular TVs out there.
* The 5 rubber feet on the bottom of the base provide ample stickiness to keep it stable.
* This monitor can be mounted if you don't want to use the stand. It uses VESA screw hole specs of 100mmx100mm using M4 screws (not provided).
CONS:
-----------
* This monitor is a bit "wonky" in getting it set at the right angle/positioning. It's a little flimsy at the connection point; having said that, it is the point in which all the angles happen. Once set, it stays in place just fine, but fine adjustments may not be as quick as some other monitors. This is nit-picking though, and not a product detractor by any means.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Samsung kept the look & features of this monitor simple. It's not fancy, and it keeps the cost down.
* This monitor can take firmware updates; however, after entering in the serial # and/or model number, it does not yet appear on the Samsung website for support. I imagine it may be available soon though.
* The usable screen goes all the way to approximately 1/4-inch from the edge as I've seen with most other monitors. The remaining space is black.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, I really love this monitor. It doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles like a webcam, integrated speakers, or gaming lighting; but for some people like myself that want a good gaming monitor where the tech is in the actual pixels and refresh rate, and keeping the price point low, this is a great option. Most gamers don't need monitor speakers because we use headsets anyway. I did include in my review a picture of the monitor on my desk to give a good idea of how much room it might take up in your setup. Front-to-back, it doesn't take up a ton of room, and it just gives a ton of real estate to play on. I own at least 30+ products from Samsung currently, and this one is as rock-solid as the rest of them. Great job Samsung!

Great-sounding Speaker with Style
on April 30, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Devialet, a French company, is well-known for their audio components. They have not disappointed with this compact bluetooth (BT) speaker - the Mania. The box includes the speaker, USBC-to-USBC charging cable, wall charger (2 pieces slide/snap together), a carrying bag, and quick user guide/paperwork. The speaker comes with a manufacturer's 2-year warranty.
BUTTON LAYOUT:
You can have this unit facing left/right or front/rear. If you have the woofers facing left/right, then the controls will be front & back. Using that position with the charging port on the BACK (that would be common if plugged in), this is how the buttons are positioned:
Front:
1. Pause/Play 2. Vol+ 3. Vol-
Back:
1. Power 2. Bluetooth (BT) 3. Battery meter button 4. Mic on/off 5. USB-C charging port
For my use, I connected to a Samsung Galaxy S23+ and also Wi-Fi. I did not use Apple interface.
PROS:
-----------
* The unit is incredibly well-built and feels solid. The style is evident with a strong rubber-like handle and "felt" cover with chrome accents.
The buttons are durable and easy to press.
* All lights are stealth, built into the rubber handle - they shine through the handle itself. There are no LEDs visible when the lights are off.
* The sound, considering its size, is pretty astounding. Put next to other comparable brands, and this unit performs as well as the others if not better. It's more of a "complete" and balanced sound rather than one that has a ton of bass or a lot of treble. You can adjust the EQ settings to have more bass or highs; however, in either case, the sound simply does not distort hardly at all and is crystal clear.
* The speaker comes with a carrying bag that has a string tie at the top to cinch it closed. This is a nice touch though for the money and brand, a hard case would have been better in order to protect the woofers better.
* A hard case does not come with the unit as stated previously; however, one can be purchased from the Devialet store.
* The BT has good range. I found distances of 30-40 feet before the speaker would eventually start to cut out.
* Connecting to wifi was easy during setup, and continuing to use Spotify was easy. In the Devialet app, you choose whether you want to use wifi or BT. The advantage of using wifi is that the device you're connected to doesn't have to remain in BT range to work.
* There is a quality rubber surface on the bottom of the unit to keep it stationary when playing (so it won't vibrate off the area where it is placed.
CONS:
-----------
* The buttons should have some contrast showing the markings to make it easier to see what each button does. Instead, cutouts are used instead which can be a bit difficult to see.
* The battery meter button and battery lights are on opposite sides of the unit. The battery button is located below the BT button on one side, and up to 4 green lights show on the opposite side, under the Vol- button the battery power remaining. The battery lights should be on the same side (under the battery button) to see it easily.
* The app only offers Treble/Bass equalizer (see screenshot) and limited information on the play screen. The song space has very little room and has to scroll left (when playing on Spotify/Pandora/etc). I would like to see an app update which can show the artist and song name a bit easier and larger on the screen. I don't believe 3/4 of the screen is needed to to turn up the volume, pause/play, and track back/forward. Seems there is a lot of wasted screen here that could display the song better.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Most people will likely only able to get 2 fingers (max) into the carrying handle.
* I was unable to test the battery longevity. This will depend on how loud you play it and how much bass the songs have. The harder it hits, the shorter the life span before having to recharge. When I got the speaker, it was at 22%. It was charged up to 100% in less than an hour on my charger.
* When connecting via BT, it does have an audio chime indicator that it was either connected or disconnected. I did not see a way to disable this feature, so keep this in mind if turning on in a quiet room.
* There is a contact charging platform that can be purchased instead of using a USB-C cable to charge. This might be worth buying if you have such an aesthetic need.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, I'm very impressed with the sound of the Devialet Mania BT speaker. It's very balanced and clear and doesn't distort like some other BT speakers at high volumes. There are some other minor features in the app that some users might like; however, nothing major to speak of for me. The biggest plus on the app side is the ability to switch from BT to wifi if needed. Users will just have to remember which side the buttons are on since they aren't very visible in low light. The easy way for me was to know that the power button was also on the mic & power cable side (which IS more visible). So the volume and play controls are on the opposite side. If Devialet can update the app to have a better EQ on the app, that would be most helpful - otherwise, you may have to use the advanced EQ sound settings on your device if those settings are available. I like the speaker a lot and would still give it a high rating. Great job, Devialet.

Great Mid-level Laser Printer with Ton of Options
on March 24, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Canon has released a new laser printer: Color ImageCLASS MF753Cdw. It has a TON of settings that you might normally see in an office printer and actually performs as good as a bigger and more expensive office printer. The box includes the printer, installation CD, power cord, RJ-11 phone cable, setup guide and other paperwork. The printer comes with a manufacturer's 3-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Printouts are very crisp, colors are vibrant
* There are TOO many options to even list for this printer. It is a serious contender for a great home office printer that can literally do anything. Listing every option in the Remote UI would take pages to explain everything.... which bring me to:
* The User Manual. It's only available online. You get a quick setup guide, but if you get into the weeds like I did, you will need the full manual located at the Canon website under the Support section. Even then, you may need support.
* Even though it looks tight, you can put a full ream of paper in the main front tray.
* Ability to print/scan/fax/copy to whatever medium you need whether it be a USB thumb drive, email, paper, etc. It has all the options.
* It will work with Win8.1/10/11 amongst others.
* It's ethernet-capable or wifi. If you cable it up, it's simply plug and play. If you use wifi, basic setup is done at the beginning... then a Firmware update was done on mine, restarted, then ready to go.
* At 35ppm, that's great for a home printer. My current printer was getting 42ppm and that was the top-end a few years ago. I haven't seen many laser printers this quality/price print this fast.
* You can setup your own menus on the touch screen. Put what matters to you where you want so you don't have to search for items embedded on other screens.
* Feeding documents into the top feeder worked like a charm for scanning/copying documents. I had no issues of paper getting jammed so far.
* If you need to use legal size paper, there is a manual feeder you can use on the front... also great for envelopes and other size paper.
CONS:
-----------
* Setup can be a slight headache if dealing with networking/SMTP issues if you don't know exactly which options to check. I had to call in a couple of times before getting the correct answer from tech support. If you want to SCAN-to-EMAIL, you need to log into the Remote UI, go to Network Settings, set SMTP TX: to 587 (it defaults to 25). Then go to TX SETTINGS and fill out the SMTP server, email, SMTP email/pw, and ALSO need to check the USE TLS FOR SMTP TX. My issue was that I tried to create my SMTP server with :587 on the end of it (as the port), but the printer setup didn't like that. Once that was changed, SCAN-to-EMAIL worked perfectly.
* I like how this Remote UI interface is so advanced; however, I wish there was a better and simpler way of getting into a GUI interface without having to login every time, and eventually it times out.
* I do not like that this printer beeps every time it prints. I went into the Sound Volume Control settings, and turned off everything; however, when printing, it still beeps. The printer is loud enough as it is, so I don't need annoying and high pitch beeps each time an item prints.
* Along with the beeps when printing, it does make a lot of noise when it awakes or boots up.
* The touch display is great, but the touch areas are a little off on my unit. If I want to select something I have to press a little higher than the graphic for it to select correctly.
* The menu is a bit cumbersome to learn as there are so many options available. Using the Remote UI is definitely a bit easier to setup and use than the touch screen.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* It's heavy-duty and it's heavy, weighing in just under 50 lbs.
* I do not have a home phone anymore, so I was unable to use the fax. All other functions worked great.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
I'm still breaking in many of the vast features this beast has to offer, and there are plenty. I'm impressed with the options available. If you need to print/scan/copy/fax, once setup, everything is pretty seamless. Getting setup isn't the easiest of chores if you're not tech-savvy, especially understanding the Remote UI interface which can use a System Manager mode or a General User Mode. It's great for not allowing people to make changes in err in being a "general user"... but I wish there was a way to bypass the UI login if the user wanted to. Overall, an incredible printer that gives the options for many users to use in whatever way necessary. I have only seen 1 home office printer better than this one from another brand... I like what I see, and I like the fact that is not an inkjet printer. Having said that, this would be at the top of my list of top home printers. Great work Canon.

Great Customizable Clear Case for S23+
on March 13, 2023
Posted by: BADog
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series has been released, and Insignia is offering some great options for physical phone protection with their clear and colored cases. I chose to get the CLEAR case for the Galaxy S23+. The package comes with the case only. The case comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty.
PROS:
---------
* Minimalistic, easy to install, good grip.
* The feel is in between rubber and plastic. It's slightly bendable but not rubbery.
* It doesn't have the feel of true plastic, meaning, it doesn't feel like it will crack like acrylic
* The buttons are not difficult to depress through the case material.
* All holes match the phone openings.
* THE BIGGEST PRO of getting a clear case like this, is that you can create your own design or logo, print it on regular letter paper or photo paper, double-side tape it to the back of your phone, and you'll have a customized look on the back of your phone. I have included a photo of what I did for my case with the University of Alabama logo.
* Since it does not have a rubber feel to it, it slides in/out of pants pockets with ease.
CONS:
---------
* There are very small feet on 3 corners of the back. In the camera corner, the material is also raised slightly; however, if lying on a perfectly flat surface, the case still slightly wobbles a little bit. Not a ton, but it's not completely flush with a flat surface.
* May not offer as much protection as other expensive brands since it does have not dual-layer protection or a screen guard.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
------------------------------------
* It's self-explanatory to put on the phone; however, you should insert the side with the buttons first when putting on the case, and when removing, take off the side opposite the buttons first. This will keep the case from clipping your buttons when installing or removing the case.
* It's impossible to know right after purchase, but it's typical for clear cases such as this one to eventually fade a bit and get a slight "dingy/dirty" look to it over time. This one is fine so far, but after months, it may start looking dingy - something colored cases may or may not show as much of.
CONCLUSION:
============
Overall, for the price, this is as good as it gets. It's solid, isn't going to break the bank, and looks good if you customize the clear version case. This case definitely is great for those that want to keep it simple and aren't worried about getting the face scratched up with normal use. I'd definitely recommend.

Dolby Atmos creates realistic 3D sound by projecting it from all around you, including from above, while DTS Virtual: X expands your listening experience without having to add extra speakers. Enjoy a cinematic audio experience, with 3 channels, 1 subwoofer and 2 up-firing channels combined to put you at the center of the action.

Great Speaker Bar System for the Cost-Conscious
on January 11, 2023
Posted by: BADog
Samsung has a few Q-Series soundbars available, and this Q60B is near the bottom of the list, both featurewise, power, and price. The package comes with the Q60B soundbar, subwoofer, power cables, HDMI cable, remote control, 2 AAA batteries for the remote, mounting brackets, and paperwork. The sound system comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
BASIC SPECS:
----------------
Soundbar weight: 7.7 lbs
Subwoofer weight: 12.1 lbs
Soundbar power: 180W (30W x6)
Subwoofer power: 160W
PROS:
-----------
* It has a great look visually with mesh metal shell and angled ends. It's very sturdy and doesn't feel cheap.
* Good overall sound quality with Dolby Atmos and DTX Virtual:X is created with 3 channels and 2 up-firing channels. The subwoofer brings it all together.
* Adaptive sound assists the user in getting what they want out of what they are watching. Music, movies, news... depending on what you are watching, you can enhance the frequencies you need to hear the most. ie. Many older people like to hear people talking instead of background noise in movies - this can be achieved with this soundbar.
* If you have a Samsung mobile device, you can use a "tap" sequence to play music via the Samsung SmartThings app. If you use Apple, you're out of luck with this feature.
* Connect audio via HDMI/ARC, digital input (fiber), or via Bluetooth (BT). AUX-IN and RCA connections are NOT available for inputs.
* The remote control has been redesigned and is much slimmer than past models. Functions and button placement on the remote; however, do resemble Samsung soundbar remotes of the past. The remote is easy to use, is ultra-lightweight, and feels well-built even given the light weight.
* Connecting of Subwoofer to soundbar was automatic out of the box but does have an ID SET key sequence you can perform if there are issues.
* USB port is available on the soundbar bottom cutout (see picture) where you can play music files on a thumb drive. This is a bit difficult to access. I have not used this function since I use BT for music playback.
* The soundbar does come with mounting hardware but I did not use.
CONS:
-----------
* Samsung has stuck with a minimal scrolling text display behind the metal mesh front. This is something I wish Samsung would improve upon instead of having words in the settings scroll each time you look at a menu item.
* The remote control uses IR instead of bluetooth, so you will need line of sight to operate. It would be good if both options were available for different setups or simply use BT only.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* There is no on-screen setup through eARC. All settings are done via the minimalistic scrolling text on the front, right side display of the main unit.
* There is not a ton of bass with this system at 160W. IMO, it is made for an apartment, bedroom, or back patio area. If you have a man cave or large room, you may opt for a full system with receiver or a flagship soundbar system which includes rear speakers too. For a smaller area, this system provides plenty of immersive sound though as shown by the BASIC SPECS section above.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, a good soundbar system by Samsung. It's not their flagship system, so you should expect as much. For a smaller room, this soundbar works perfectly. The highs/lows and sound mix (Dolby) really suck you into the movie in compact areas. The remote allows for quick change in subwoofer volume without getting into menus which is a plus. Playing music from a BT device works like a charm and offers plenty of volume and fullness for most setups. I recommend this soundbar but only for smaller room settings unless you're simply going the budget route. If that's the case, you can't go wrong with this soundbar with the price, sounds, and looks overall.

Good Beginner eBike for Trickeration
on January 2, 2023
Posted by: BADog
BMX's new SWFT dirt eBike (Class-2 eBike) is a great starting point for a younger rider or someone wanting to do tricks and stunts (to a degree). The box includes the eBike (I'll refer to as "bike" in the review) that is about 80% assembled, charger, low-grade tools, caps for allen bolts, and paperwork. The bike comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
Disclaimer: This is my 2nd eBike so I have experience with them for a bit over 2 years. I have been riding bikes in general for over 45 years and also ride motorcycles. Bottom line is, I'm an experienced rider.
BASIC SPECS:
--------------
Frame Size: 20" Alloy with some steel parts
Max Pedaling Speed: 20mph
Max Throttle Speed: 20mph
Max Pedaling Distance with PAS: 35 miles (PAS Level 1, minimum rider weight, ideal road conditions)
Max Throttle-only Distance: ~16 miles (calculated with minimum rider weight on ideal road conditions)
Battery: 36V/7.5AH Lithium-ion
Charger: 42V/2.0A
Charging time: Up to 5 hours
Motor Power: 350W, Brushless rear hub
Tire Size: 20" x 2.35"
Gears: Single-Speed
Sensor: Cadence
Max Pedaling Incline: 25-degrees
Max Throttle Incline: 15-degrees
Display: Backlit LCD
Built-in LED headlights
Bike Weight: ~40 lbs
Rider Weight Limit: 265 lbs
Kickstand: Yes
Recommended rider height: 5'3"+
PROS:
-----------
* Nice clean look overall with the flat black finish
* It's light-weight that even a smaller kid could ride (5'3" minimum height and rider abilities). It's also light enough that it can be ridden easily with the power of the bike turned off or with a dead battery.
* The charging port is built such that the charger can be inserted easily. Some chargers have pins inside and have to be lined up to only fit one way - this port is NOT like that, so it's easy to plug in. The rubber cap keeps dirt out when riding.
* LED headlights come in handy at night and increase visibility. Easy turn on/off process, simply hold down the UP-ARROW for 3 seconds and it will power on and also be indicated on the display. This will also cause more battery drain when in use.
* The bike does not LOOK like a typical eBike as they made the bottom frame bar as thin as possible without giving up battery space.
* The instructions are easy to read, and assembly was not difficult. I did use my own wrenches as the ones they provide are basic for this bike only. Please read the instructions to know how to operate safely. The instructions covered everything. The parts that need to be attached are the handlebars, pedals, seat, pegs, and reflectors in addition to zip-tying the rear brake line under the bottom bar on the frame. My tired needed more air as well.
* The pegs are strong and feel durable for tricks. They can be removed by simply twisting off counter-clockwise.
* The display provides good info such as speed, PAS mode (0-3), battery level, odometer, trip meter, cycling time, headlight status, and error codes if you have issues. You can switch back and forth from KM to Miles.
* Added features that are not on my other eBike are (1) walk assist - the motor moves your bike forward at a slow pace and (2) Cruise control if you are pedaling faster than 5mph. Both are turned on when holding down the DOWN-ARROW, but depend on your speed to determine which one is activated. Hit the brake to cancel.
CONS:
-----------
* A huge blow against this bike is the lack of a front brake. Regular bike riders (and motorcycle riders) use both front/rear brakes at the same time in order to stop quickly when needed. This bike also does not have a foot brake like old school bikes (reversing the pedaling motion). Stopping distance is increased significantly with a rear-only hand brake and is the biggest issue I have with this bike.
* The specs provided above are from BMX and don't represent the "average" rider who will typically be well over 5'3" and not "minimal" weight in "ideal conditions" on PAS-1. Count on getting a bit less than those numbers since those numbers are THE best you could ever get. The average rider will push it instead of being "minimal". It's a DIRT BIKE and is meant to do tricks, jumps, and have a PAS-3 acceleration for such things and many times on dirt. This is not ideal for a 35-mile range.
* The battery can't be removed for taking indoors to charge. To charge the battery, the bike has to be wherever the charger is. So if you live in a 2nd floor apartment, you'll have to bring the bike to your apartment to charge it.
* I'm 5'8" and need the seat to be nearly fully extended to the max in order to ride comfortably. If you are taller than that, you might consider a bigger framed bike for comfort's sake.
* The handlebars, when clamped down, are pretty tight; however, at the center point, I would suggest that BMX create some grooves or something that would create more friction so that the handlebars don't rotate forwards or backwards as easily since there are no shocks on this bike and downward force from a jump/trick could cause injury if the handlebars rotate even when tight. At some point, the allen bolts will actually break if they are continually tightened so added friction at the mounting point would be beneficial.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
---------------------------------
* The bike has a very low profile and minimalistic presentation with everything being flat black.
* The bike's throttle is a half-handle on the right side (not a thumb throttle). See picture.
* Personally, the rider should know how to ride a regular bike before trying to ride an eBike. This will give the rider more confidence especially when speeds increase by around 2 times.
* The "power" button on the bottom of the the bike battery area simply gives the ability to turn on the display for the motor to work. If the power button is off, then the display won't power up, thus not allowing the bike's motor to function. So the power button can be pressed in ALL the time if needed, and it will NOT drain the battery if the display is off. The display being ON or OFF determines if the bike's motor will operate.
* At 350W, the motor is not very strong, but this IS a smaller eBike made for Class 2 (20mph max). Don't expect super quick acceleration. It's average, also considering a 36V battery. Some of the more expensive bikes have 48V/52V batteries.
* The bike is shipped in a box that is 52"x9"x25" and is about 54 lbs.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, a decent product, but the biggest issue I have is the lack of a front brake. In addition to stopping quicker, it also provides another means to stop if the rear brakes fail or break somehow. I also wish the battery could be removed so it could be charged indoors without bringing the whole bike inside. This being a lower-end eBike, I see why the manufacturer went this route. I would be interested in knowing how long the manufacturer will be making batteries that fit this bike going forward. At some point, the battery will be too weak to use for extended time. The good thing is that you could then remove the battery completely and use as a basic dirt bike. The display is quite useful, and the plug area for charging is easy to use. A few tweaks here and there would definitely be beneficial though.

** There are a lot more apps available (ie. kids, foreign languages, screensavers, digital/analog clocks, movies, games, etc)
** Some apps require the user to create an LG account on the TV before they can be installed.
===MISSING=== One app noticeably missing was DirecTV Stream as of 12/26/22. You will still need another device like Roku or a Fire Stick to use that app on this TV via one of the HDMI ports.
PROS:
-----------
* The TV is aesthetically pleasing, almost looking like a giant tablet propped up on the countertop.
* The remote is bluetooth (BT) so it doesn't have to be aimed at an infrared sensor that could get blocked by obstructions.
* For a 1080p FULL HD picture, this one is quite good for its size. The picture is very crisp, and there are different picture settings to choose from including custom settings. I'm very impressed with the picture quality.
* Setup was easy, responsive, and quick. A system update was taken upon setup. On-screen messages kept the user up-to-date on what was happening at every step.
* I typically use wired ethernet for internet connections to my TVs but for this one, I did use wifi, and there were absolutely NO issues connecting or keeping a good/constant connection for the picture to remain in HD quality (it did not go fuzzy/pixelated). My internet is very good (AT&T Fiber), and wifi was well within range of the TV. Be sure your wireless router is in good proximity to the TV or you could have issues connecting as with any device.
* The picture has a no-glare surface and can be viewed VERY well at any angle.
* As shown above, app availability is very good overall.
* If you go into the Settings, you can opt to remove the LG splash screen on TV power up and the TV powers up quickly, between 2-3 seconds. You can choose what screen or INPUT the TV starts on in the Settings as well which is a good convenience.
CONS:
-----------
* Acceptable response time from the remote but could be slightly better.
* The sound quality is very weak and not very good though the design does emit the sound from the FRONT of the unit via the bottom area below the screen. Many TVs this size have speakers facing straight down. This one, the sound is at least projected forwards but it still of low quality. You may opt to connect a wired or BT speaker for better audio.
* The "feel" of the buttons on the remote where the up/down/left/right/ENTER are OK. I like to have a remote in which I don't have to look down to ensure my thumb is on the center button. This one, is not quite as defined with the key "feel".
* After connecting to my network at initial setup, I was unable to "Load the User Agreements" which opens up full access to all functions of the TV itself. I kept getting an error message even though the preceding screen (and Internet Connection option) showed I was connected. I SKIPPED this step and was able to eventually load the user agreements in the Settings menu. This is a SW glitch in the SW setup process and should be fixed with a Firmware update. I have posted a picture of the error.
* This TV does not come with a 3.5mm AUDIO OUT jack. For a kitchen TV, this would be great to have due to the issues I had in my next comment.....
* EXTERNAL SPEAKER SETUP was not as easy to maneuver when using an external speaker with a 3.5mm jack. I connected a digital optical/fiber OUT cable to a digital adapter that converts digital audio to the option to use RCA or 3.5mm jack to an external BT speaker with 3.5mm audio jack. The reason for this is because if the BT speaker remains ON, and the TV is turned OFF then back ON again, the TV does not automatically reconnect to the BT speaker. This is not good. The BT speaker has to be turned OFF then ON again for it to connect to the TV (or the order of "power-up" has to be TV first, then BT speaker). The speaker I'm using is the JBL Charge 2+ and also the Bose Revolve+ (I tried both) which are a few years old but still do the job well. If I turn off BT to the speaker and connect via 3.5mm jack, sounds DOES come out of the external BT speaker, but I lose the ability to change the volume with the TV remote like I normally have with the TV speakers and/or when connected via BT. After calling LG support, they stated that LG Sync needed to turned on, but that still did not increase/decrease the volume levels (the no speaker icon did go away with volume indication on the TV, but between 0-100, the actual volume levels did not change). Ultimately, since the 3.5mm jack was unable to work with vol up/down, I had to go with BT connection instead. If you use the ARC/HDMI option for audio, you should have NO problem.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
---------------------------------
* The AC adapter is pretty big and bulky at the outlet location. You may need to expand your outlet needs depending on other electronics plugged in at that location.
* The TV has a very thin build but strangely enough has a very sturdy base with rubber feet. It does not want to tip over very easily and takes up little space. This TV does NOT come with a stand - it is made like this for a reason. This gives MORE SCREEN space and less vertical height which occurs with a stand. A stand on most 27" TVs may cause it to be too tall and not fit under standard cabinets.
* There is 1.95GB of internal memory on the TV. I was unable to find documentation on whether a USB drive can be attached on the back to house extra memory for apps. If a USB drive is inserted in the rear USB port, the back may not be able to be snapped on depending on the size of your thumb drive. I have about 10 primary apps installed to the internal memory with no issues.
* PORTS on the back of the TV include (1) Ethernet input (2) Optical Digital Audio OUT (fiber) (3) Power cord (4) HDMI 2[ARC] (5) HDMI 1 (6) RF Antenna IN (7) USB IN (5V. 0.5A).
* The white frame of the TV may or may not fit your aesthetics depending on your counter and cabinet colors. I have mostly dark colors in my kitchen but have white appliances nearby, so it didn't look too bad especially when actually powered ON. See picture.
* The TV can be mounted using the 4 bolt holes on the back or place on sturdy rubber feet. No mounting hardware is provided.
* If using in the kitchen, you will want to be careful about splatter around the TV as it will show up on the screen and be harder to remove than if the screen was a glass surface. Don't use an ammonia-based cleaner on this screen (don't use Windex). Use an alcohol-based cleaner like you would use on tinted cars. And use a microfiber cloth so the screen is not damaged during cleaning.
CONCLUSION:
=================
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this TV; however, the lack of a 3.5mm jack and the inability to control the volume of the TV when a wired 3.5mm external speaker is used does deflate my enthusiasm a bit. Since I can use BT instead, I can live with it. Also, we have the additional TV service DTV Stream which is not in the WebOS store so if we watch TV using this app, it will need another device to be used on one of the HDMI ports. DTV and LG have to work out contracts to get it added, so that may or may not be in the works. Other than that, the TV looks great and has a good picture for that size TV. Response time from the remote to the TV is acceptable but could be better. The TV has a TON of options which is great. There are too many to list here. You can also have the TV speakers ON or OFF while an external speaker is being used if needed. This is a win for LG, but work out the few kinks I have listed, and it will be a 5-star product in my book.

Great Gaming Option on a Budget!
on December 7, 2022
Posted by: BADog
iBuyPower is a maker of "pre-built" gaming desktop computers. There are unlimited variations but this is one particular version offered by Best Buy. This package comes with the PC gaming tower, basic gaming keyboard, gaming mouse, 2 antennas, power cord, and paperwork.Manufacturer's warranty is 1 year.
PROS:
---------
* Packaged well during shipping
* Nice look having a mirrored surface on the front and left side but also with the ability to see inside the unit when lit up.
* Exceptional cooling having 3 input fans and 1 exit fan & liquid-cooled for internal components
* 16GB is plenty for gaming purposes, but you may want more if you're doing other intensive-processor work like video editing.
* DDR4 RAM is upgradable to 128GB
* Plenty of HDD space at 1TB + the main 500GB SSD
* Most people will have their own keyboard, but I will say that the keystroke feel of this keyboard is better than the one I already use. There is no "clacking" sound with these keys, so noise is muffled a bit. I really like the sound and feel of the keys.
* Same with the mouse - people usually have one they like to use, but for a gaming default mouse, it has a good feel to it.
* Plenty of USB ports (2 top, 8 back).
CONS:
---------
* Biggest CON are the absence of USB-C ports. Not even one. Plenty of USB-A, but no USB-C.
* Would be good to have an SD card reader
* I still like for my gaming PC to have an optical drive - this PC does NOT have one.
* Though the keyboard looks good, it needs to have a wrist pad for ergonomics sake.
PERFORMANCE:
------------------------
As user experience goes, I play various online games such as Fortnite, CoD Warzone and League of Legends. The biggest issue is fps and latency for most gamers. I have had extremely low latency (not noticeable), and easily have 60-120fps most of the time from the ARC A750 graphics. Temps are remaining check and only elevate slightly when video edit rendering takes place for long periods of time. Gaming is what this tower is all about, and it delivers performance.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
------------------------------------
* Dimensions are quite large: Height 19.3" x Width 8.6" x Depth 18.3"
* There is an ON/OFF switch on the back/bottom of the unit next to the power cord connection.
* If you're unable to wire your desktop, the unit comes with 2 adjustable antennas that can be attached to the back of the desktop for wi-fi connections. I did not use these since I use a wired connection.
CONCLUSION:
============
Make sure you have a good monitor that can handle high refresh rates and you're golden. The tower itself looks great and runs great. Performance-wise, for the price, you won't find a much better option for a pre-built gaming desktop. You can view the specs elsewhere so I won't spout them off here - but overall, this computer does the job well. This is my first iBuyPower desktop, and I'd recommend this specific build for most gaming applications. I'd really like to see an optical drive and at least one USB-C port though. That would complete the package.

Great External Mic for Sony's Vlogger ZV-1F Camera
on November 23, 2022
Posted by: BADog
Sony has released their basic vlogger shotgun microphone which is built to pick up sounds directly in front of itself. In the box includes the mic, a wind screen cover, a short 3.5mm cable for connecting the mic to the camera (sold separately) and some user guides. The microphone comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Very small/compact
* Built-in shock absorber
* No controls and foolproof with one output
* Picks up directional audio very well, inside or outside
* The deadcat muff wind screen works very well
* There is actually decent audio behind and in front of the mic
* Picks up voice frequencies very well as this is what it's made for
* Very voice forward, punchy, simple, plug and play
CONS:
-----------
* It does pick up some ambient noise if outside
* There is some mic noise where shock absorber hits the plastic edge of the plastic mount. I placed a small rubber band around the bottom of the mic to stabilize the mic a bit better to eliminate any kind of knocking should the camera shake a lot.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Simple hookup to the hot shoe mount of the camera
CONCLUSION:
=====================
This is a great option for any camera with a hot shoe mount and mic input. In almost every case, an external mic exceeds the performance of a built-in internal mic. Due to incredible compactness of this mic, you should be able to use it anytime and should fit in most camera bags and take up very little space. If you want simple, high quality, and a good price point, this is one of the best options out there.

Great Entry-Level Camera for Vloggers
on November 23, 2022
Posted by: BADog
Sony has released another vlogger camera in the ZV series - the ZV-1F, which is an adaptation of the previous model, the ZV-1. The box includes the camera, USB-to-USBC cable (for charging and transferring files), a basic mic with wind screen, 1 battery, and some user guides. The camera comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Lens is fixed. Focus used is typically automatic for most people and can stay focused on the vlogger's eyes
* Lens cover is completely removable
* Very light, compact, good grip, excellent ergonomics
* Switching between modes is easy - video, slo-motion video, and photo.
* When the camera can't focus, the "focus square" in the middle of the shot turns purple. This is a nice and quick indicator on-screen.
* The 3 internal microphones do a great job at picking up audio and ambient noise. The wind screen attachment does its job to keep wind noise out of the audio recording.
* "Product Showcase" mode works well when showing a product in front of the camera then having the camera focus back in on the user's face or something else when that product is removed.
* It has the availability of multiple picture profiles for setting the right color scene.
CONS:
-----------
* Always a wide shot with everything in focus. There isn't a good way to blur the background during recording
* Manual settings can be a bit tedious to access in the settings and using only the wheel control on the back.
* A simple addition to this camera that is missing is a basic 3.5mm headphones jack so the vlogger can hear if there is wind noise, or clothes rubbing against the mic, etc.
* The camera can't shoot RAW photos which allows for better photo editing capabilities. But this being entry level is likely why this option is omitted.
* Video does have a "jello" effect when panning left and right too fast, so if you are walking and want to show things behind you, you will not want to pan left/right too fast... there may be some distortion there.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------
* Video can be in 4K but only at 24 or 30fps. If you need more fps, the user can dumb it down to 1080p at 120 fps.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
To be clear, this is not a professional photographer's camera. Though it has a number of options internally, it's not going to give the user phenomenal shots you might see in magazines. It's primary purpose is for vlogging, which in many cases, can be very basic when doing reviews of products. Most smartphones will take better still photos than this camera and even video. Keep in mind that the USE of the camera IS vlogging. Can you use a smartphone instead? Sure, but you end up having to use the selfie camera which may not be high quality, and you also won't have a high quality microphone that comes on this camera (or a better one that can be purchased, like the Sony Vlogger Shotgun Mic. For vlogging specifically, it does the job well, and I would highly recommend.

how does it sound with music on a computer?

Sound is good for gaming mainly. If you have bass sounds in a game, they sound very good. But if you're looking for bass sounds in music using this speaker, you'll probably want to go with a speaker system with a dedicated sub.

Keep your patios and entryways looking great with this Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit. The lightweight construction makes cleaning tasks easier, while the long-lasting battery lets you get through extensive jobs before having to recharge. This Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit blows up to 85 mph to get solid results fast.

How long does this run after a charge?

I got around 14 minutes on a full charge. Hoover claims 16 minutes but I was unable to get that multiple times. If you get the 3Ah battery, time will be more, but I'm not sure how much more since that battery was not included in the box.

Drive safely with this Cobra super HD dash cam. Its 1296p recording resolution captures high-quality video footage in any lighting condition, while the extreme temperature protection is tested to withstand sudden fluctuations. This Cobra super HD dash cam provides iRadar route tracking and live police alerts when connected to the iRadar app, so you never miss a thing.

How long does the cobra dash cam hold the footage does it erase it over how can you look back a week to see the footage

it keeps the footage until it starts looping and writes over it. That is, unless the file is protected by manually hitting the blue button on the back of the unit OR if a video is triggered due to GPS event (car is hit). It will also depend on how big of a microSD card you use and how much time is used driving. Many factors.

What is iRadar? How does it work

iRadar is just an app you put on your phone that works with this Cobra dashcam. Without the iRadar app running on your smartphone and bluetoothed to your unit, you won't get GPS data. So you have to turn on the app each time you drive if you want GPS data embedded on your videos. And even then, your MPH won't be on the video itself - it's only seen with the HD Dash Cam program you download from the Cobra website. I have a couple of screenshots on my review with GPS data and without GPS data.

Enjoy a theater-like experience in the comfort of your home with this 370W Samsung soundbar system. Wi-Fi functionality offers hands-free voice control with select devices for an easy intuitive user experience, while dual HDMI ports connect multimedia equipment. This Samsung soundbar system includes a wireless subwoofer that adds rich bass for immersive audio.

Will the new hw q80r shut off like the hw n850 after 5 min of paused movie.

Q80 should do everything the N850 did. Based on specs and my experience with the two, the changes from last year to this year are a name change and a couple of cosmetic changes (dark gray to black chasis, smaller Harmon Kardon label on top of bar, circular fabric over the subwoofer driver instead of cloth covering the entire side). Oh, and they now offer 1 more wifi audio service in addition to Tune-in. They offer Deezer too. Still no Pandora or Spotify via the Smartthings app unfortunately.

Will the lid hinge rest/scratch upon the surface when opening it?

It just opens/closes with no latch mechanism. It rests flat against the base but I don't see how it would scratch it.
