FAST SSD, but Missing 1 Thing
on June 6, 2021
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Crucial has the X6 external SSD device available now in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB sizes. The package should come with the SSD device, a 9-inch USB-C-to-USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, and instruction manual. Crucial offers a 3-year limited warranty for the SSD device.
Disclaimer: Devices I used to connect this SSD to are a Microsoft Book 3 and an (Android) Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G.
PROS:
-----------
* Incredibly portable at only around 2.5" square and ultra-thin. (See pic of it in my hand)
* Real-world observation: I wrote 2.5GB of photos/videos from my Book 3 to the SSD in 10 seconds. That is extremely fast.
* Plug-and-play works every time
* Excellent for storing music or any files that you want available to a PC or Android phone instantly.
* This drive is the perfect size for connecting to routers that have the ability to connect such a drive for network storage for everyone on that router. The fact that there is no power needed is a huge plus.
* Great for anyone that has USB-C on their laptop that may be hard drive lacking - some have 128GB-256GB HDD which may not be enough in some cases. Connecting 2TB to your PC is very convenient.
CONS:
-----------
* Perhaps the ends of the USB-C connector cable could have less "body". Of the 9 inches of the cable, each end is around 1-inch each with the rest of the cable being pretty thick, it can be more tedious to bend/move. Perhaps that thickness improves the bottleneck of data throughput.
* Even though the casing is decent (plastic), it would be great to have a more protective slim case to put the drive and cable inside to protect it further from the elements or from getting hit in a computer bag. At $250 for the 2TB version (and data sometimes being priceless), you don't want this thing to get damaged.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------
* PCs typically use NFSD formatting; however, if you connect to a Samsung S21, you will not be able to read the drive until it is in exFAT format OR unless you allow the phone to format your card (in exFAT) format. In this case, both PC and phone will be able to read the drive. If you want to transfer or read files on both your PC and phone, make sure the drive is in exFAT formatted state. In addition, you need to unmount the drive from your phone prior to disconnected (similar to what you do on your PC).
* I did not use a speed reader like CrystalDiskMark because this can actually damage the drive.
* I'm unsure if it's a phone issue or the SSD issue, but when connected to my Samsung, in one instance, it is called the "USB Storage 1" but on another screen, it is called "Micron USB drive". Just an observation.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
I have a couple of other external HDDs that I have used in the past, but this Crucial SSD drive is pretty impressive. Power is run through the same cable as the data transfer which keeps things clean. The speed is very good or better than advertised. It's portable. It's a simple product that just works. Just keep it protected. The product itself is great; however, at this price point, including a hard case to protect it further would have been perfect. Remember, it's not just the product you're protecting - it's the data. And if it ever gets damaged, things can go south fast. Include a protective case and this would be a 5-star complete product.

Serious Wi-Fi Speed with 6E Spectrum Availability
on May 27, 2021
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Linksys has a new product on the market, and it's making a big splash with speed throughput in the Wi-Fi realm. It's the Hydra Pro 6E Tri-band Mesh Wi-Fi router. The package includes the router, proprietary AC adapter, short ethernet cable (CAT5e), and some paperwork. Linksys offers a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.
Disclaimer: I tested this router with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G which has the 6MHz channel capability used for the extra 6E spectrum and also a wired gaming PC.
PROS:
-----------
* Setup was the same as the Linksys Mesh system and Max-stream routers they have sold in the past - very easy. Just use the Linksys app, and it just works. A quick firmware update to start and you're up and running.
* Connects easily to existing Linksys Tri-band Mesh towers though they may have to be reconfigured from the previous Linksys base to this one.
* The speed, man. The Speed! In using my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, I was able to tap into those 6MHz channels and reach some serious speed at home with my AT&T 1Gb/s fiber (1Gps up and down).
* 5Gbs ethernet input capacity. When fiber upgrades over 1Gbs, this router will be ready.
* This router gives the ability to add a USB external drive that can be shared to anyone connected to that router. Simply type in \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on Windows File Explorer where the x's are defined on the app and access is easy. You can set up open access or password-protected. Very nice feature for shared storage items.
* I like the on/off switch on the back. If the unit needs to be powered off, that's much easier to deal with than unplugging the unit and plugging back in.
* WPS availability (button on the side)
* Linksys continues to offer "Guess Access" so people that come to your house don't get your main network password to connect.
* Parental controls also available as it has in the past. Schedule when your little ones can and can't access the internet on wifi.
* If your home or apartment starts getting congested with wifi signals from surrounding sources, the app provides a "Scan Channels" function which will scan the area for a better signal frequency to maximize your speed.
CONS:
-----------
* The Linksys app still continues to be slow loading on my device (and other devices). Perhaps it has to do a ton of pre-checks before showing data on the screen, but it seems that it should load quicker than it does.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------
* The range is impressive; however, I still prefer to use the Linksys VELOP tri-band nodes for better coverage around my house which can limit the 6E speed. Keep in mind that the only way 6E speed is typically needed is for file transfer and video uploading. Most other applications don't need anything near this kind of speed.
* Offers the normal 4 ethernet ports with up to 1000Mbs speed per port.
* You can manage multiple Linksys routers on the same app. You just need to go into the 3-line menu and go down to the bottom and select the Network Name. That will take you to a page where you can switch networks.
* The External Storage settings are located in the 1st section of that same main menu.
* Antennas can rotate as needed at the bottom swivel points.
* The official USER GUIDE can be downloaded from the Linksys.com website. The paper version is not included in the box.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
I have AT&T Fiber and get 1Gb/s service download and upload. With Linksys's Max-stream Wi-Fi 5 router, I would get around 400-500 DL/UL. With 6E enabled on my Samsung S21 Ultra 5G (one of the very few phones that offer the 6MHz frequency band), I'm getting the full spectrum!! It provides insane speed, not that there's an app that needs that much speed at once, but it's there. 6E is for real... and this router produces. I have 3 Tri-band Linksys Mesh towers, and this router connects easily though the towers won't offer the 6E speed. Highly recommend, easy setup. More advanced features on the router are available, but usually not needed. Great job Linksys.

Excellent Small Trimmer Packs a Punch
on March 30, 2021
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Wahl has a nice trimmer/shaver package that won't break the bank and has plenty to offer. The package comes with the Wahl Edge Pro trimmer, full-size comb, mustache/beard comb/guard, scissors, 2 bristle cleaning brushes, oil, 12 guards, travel pouch, and instruction manual. Wahl offers a 5-year limited warranty for the trimmer.
PROS:
-----------
* Very lengthy cord at approximately 8.5 feet. It has some good reach.
* Nice look. Has the carbon fiber look on top with crimson red trim
* Extremely sharp blades.
* It does a nice job of cutting facial hair down to a very short length with complete ease. The cutting blades cut though coarse facial hair as though it wasn't there. The motor is for real. I used on my facial hair with no guards - see one of my pictures for cut closeness.
* This Pro unit has plenty of cutting guards to pick from along with 2 cleaning brushes. The accessories are many, so you should have whatever option you need here available.
* The travel pouch is a nice touch and it holds everything in the package. It will be completely full, especially after all of the 8.5 feet of power cable is wound up and inserted. The elastic band holds it all together nicely. If traveling, you can take only the guards and accessories you want, and you should have a bit more room in the pouch for storage.
CONS:
-----------
* I have had a couple of trimmers in the past, but these are quite a bit sharper on the skin, and perhaps the design is supposed to be that way. If trimming without a guard, it doesn't appear it will cut you, but feels like it might because the end is so thin and sharp. This might cause some discomfort and unease if the skin you are shaving is baby-like or soft/smooth. Someone with sensitive skin may need a guard.
* I'm unsure of a better place for the power switch (the unit is so small and compact) but a couple of times I have accidentally turned off the unit due to the location of the power switch. I like the look and simplicity of the switch, but the location might could be improved or a better way to keep from turning off.
* Though the cutting guards are plenty, there are rather flimsy but are made of a more rubbery material than plastic, so that should extend the life of each guard. They just feel cheap - but at this price point, I would say that is acceptable.
* As sharp as these blades are, even when the unit is off, a protective cap would be nice to have.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------
* I only used for my facial hair, and for testing purposes, I used the guards to cut some leg hair. I did not use on my head, but I'm certain it would cut with ease based on how it cut everything else. The guards worked fine and clipped on/off with no issues.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, this little trimmer/shaver by Wahl packs a huge punch with strong motor and sharp blades. I have switched (for now) to this trimmer over my cordless one because of the ease in which it cuts through my coarse facial hair to a very short length. Just be wary of softer/sensitive skin users. At this price point, for what you get in accessories and travel pouch, this is a great product, and you never have to worry about the battery dying since it's corded. There are pros and cons for corded vs cordless, but for a corded trimmer, this would be a great pick for sure.

Nearly perfect gaming speaker
on March 23, 2021
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Panasonic has released a great new product for gamers that don't need a huge entertainment system for audio. The package comes with the Soundslayer speaker, AC power cord/block attachment, remote control, and instruction manual. Panasonic offers a 1-year limited warranty for the speaker.
PROS:
-----------
* Unlike smaller bluetooth/3.5mm portable audio devices, this one is wired via HDMI/fiber. Has a much better sound than using analog connections or bluetooth.
* Perfect size for gamers that play in a confined area (ie. dorm room, bedroom) where loud and massive audio is not ideal.
* Easy setup, plug-and-play design
* Deep immersive gaming sounds when playing PS4/PS5. Most sounds you hear with headphones are still heard with this speaker.
* The remote control offers multi-functions that are easy to use. Remote is light but solid.
* Since this speaker has both HDMI and Digital (fiber) audio, you can technically have 2 different wired sources connect in addition to wireless bluetooth.
* I did not experience any kind of lag/delay in audio/video sync.
* It has 4K passthrough with multiple audio formats that it can handle including Dolby Atmos and DTS-X.
CONS:
-----------
* The biggest con is that a digital display is not provided. This is a very simple addition that would have really put this speaker at the top of its game. Instead, you have to know the light sequences in order to know what happens. There isn't much for the lights to do, but a digital readout would still be way more convenient than lights flashing left/right, or a specific number of times.
* Many gamers play 2 different platforms (PS5/Xbox/PC/PS4) or at least USE 2 of these. Since there is only 1 HDMI in/out, you may need to buy a separate HDMI switch if you want multiple inputs to the speaker. IE. My son in college uses this speaker for both his PC and PS5. We bought a separate HDMI switch to accommodate this setup. Having 1 more HDMI input would be good at this price point. You can see the small HDMI switch we use in one of my pictures (2 input, 1 output).
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------
* This speaker is clearly not for deep immersive MUSIC. It has bass, but only to a limited extent. It really is more for gaming/TV sounds rather than music. Even though it does have Bluetooth (BT), music would sound better on most other BT wireless speakers. Deep bass sounds sound more like a thud than a boom. But given the size of the bass driver, that should be expected.
* If you lose your remote, you still have some functionality with the Power/Volume/Input buttons on the right side of the unit. Don't lose the remote or you'll lose a bit of functionality.
* Keep in mind that when you plug in the speaker to another source that has its own volume controls, you'll want to set the volume to the source and the speaker itself in a way in which you can adjust the volume of the other so it's convenient for you. (ie. If you want to control the speaker via PC, turn up the speaker all the way and use the PC volume controls to raise volume up and down).
* The power cord is proprietary with a power block in the middle (not USB-C).
CONCLUSION:
=====================
This gaming speaker is very simplistic in nature. It's not complicated. It's plug and play, has some good features including having quick bass control and surround 3D sound via the remote. It's perfect for college student (dorm room) or a gamer at home that may not want a ton of bass thumping the entire house. Clarity of voices is crystal clear, and sheer volume is plenty. This is a great substitution for not using headphones as the 3D sound is very good. The biggest flaw is the sequence of the lights and not having a digital display of some sort. You need the instructions to know what the lights are telling you which is a nuisance during initial setup. But once you know what the lights do, it's not too bad; however, IMO, it's enough to get a star knocked off the final rating. A good user interface is worth a lot.

Best Center Channel Speaker for the Money, Period
on January 2, 2021
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has released their 600 Anniversary series speakers and what an impressive set of speakers they are. Contents of this package is the HTM6 center channel speaker, rubber stick-on feet, magnetic mesh screen, 2-size foam plug for bass port, and installation/build instructions. They come with a 5-year warranty on parts & labor.
Disclaimer: I have this B&W HTM6 center channel along with the two 603 S2 Anniversary series floor speakers hooked up with a Klipsch subwoofer, rear Infinity surround speakers, and a Yamaha RX-V685 7.2 channel receiver. I am replacing a 20-yr old set of great-sounding and vintage BOSE 701 floor speakers and BOSE VCS-10 center channel.
PROS:
-----------
* Great look, well built, solid chassis, construction materials used are of high quality.
* I set up my speaker sound using the given Yamaha receiver YPAO microphone. This should be done whenever speaker sets are changed out. After going through that sequence of events, I ended up increasing the center channel volume along with rear speaker volume in order to hear the surround items better and especially the talking in movies better. Once adjusted, these speakers really brought out the sound of some blockbuster hits including Wonder Woman 84 on Christmas Day, Gladiator, and Soul (Pixar movie). I played a few other hits on HBOmax and the sound was phenomenal.
* Sound was insanely crisp and clear with movie dialogue. For the center channel this is paramount. Even sounds where the characters are whispering come in with high clarity. The sound couldn't be better. This also has a lot to do with my receiver settings which you will need to adjust for your particular listening needs.
* I listened to some digital music including piano, R&B, classic rock, special effects, and country. With each genre, I felt like I was in the middle of a concert. This was done without the use of the rear surround sound speakers. It was that good.
* The magnetic speaker grills are easily removable and look good on OR off. Be careful though, because these grills are extremely thin and made of plastic and could possibly break easily.
* Wire hook-up was easy as it's only 2 wires in most applications.
CONS:
-----------
* This is a first - I cannot think of a single "con" for this product. It is THAT good and THAT impressive.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* Make sure you allow for about a week for the sound of your speaker to fall into place with the "breaking-in" period. The speaker need to operate at softer/normal levels before sending it a great deal of power. This includes getting the speaker acclimated to the temperature of your home.
* This center channel speaker itself will be more dependent on which receiver you use rather than the speaker itself for incredible/great sound. If you use a subpar receiver/amplifier, your sound will be that as well, regardless of speaker quality. If you want this speaker to cry out to you, invest in a good receiver with ample power.
* This speaker comes with 4 rubber feet that you can stick on the bottom to secure in place; however, one could likely use thin felt pads as well if not on a smooth surface in which the speaker could slide off due to heavy bass over time.
* I do NOT have my TV hung on a wall. It sits on its own legs which are NOT tall enough that will allow for this center channel speaker to fit under my TV screen. I had to design/build/paint some "lifts" for my TV legs so I would have enough clearance to slide this speaker underneath my TV. Keep this in mind before buying. Height clearance is 6.3" tall and depth is 10" deep. If you simply place in front of your TV, make sure you have the space needed. I will include some pictures of my TV lifted and speaker underneath. I added black screen mesh on each side of the center channel to hide the contents of behind/under the TV. See pictures with my review.
* I did not have a need for using the foam bass woofer plug provided.
CONCLUSION:
===================
Unlike other products like TVs, receivers, computers, cars, and appliances, SPEAKERS are a very simple thing to actually "use". You literally hook them up with 2 wires, and the way they sound is really more dependent on the receiver you have driving them. They might sound good or bad depending on your receiver and sound setup characteristics. Please use a quality receiver to make this speaker sing to you! If you don't, then you are losing a ton of specific sounds these speakers can provide at high quality. The last thing you want is a center channel to have limited dialogue volume during a movie. Make adjustments on your receiver to make that happen. After 20 years of my vintage BOSE VCS-10 center channel, this upgrade was well worth it and I highly recommend this incredible-sounding center channel speaker.

Best Floor Speakers for the Money, Period

Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has released their 600 Anniversary series speakers and what an impressive set of speakers they are. Contents of this package is the 603 S2 speaker (1 per box), base mounting hardware, base, magnetic mesh screen, 2-size foam plug for bass port, and installation/build instructions. They come with a 5-year warranty on parts & labor.
Disclaimer: I have 2 of these 603 S2 floor speakers and the B&W HTM6 center channel for this anniversary series hooked up with a Klipsch subwoofer, rear Infinity surround speakers, and a Yamaha RX-V685 7.2 channel receiver. I played a few other hits on HBOmax and the sound was phenomenal.
* Sound was very crisp on left/right scenes as surround sound dictated. You can tell that the crossovers are doing their job because specific sounds are coming out loud and clear on each individual woofer. The highs from the tweeters really couldn't be better.
* I listened to some digital music including piano, R&B, classic rock, special effects, and country. With each genre, I felt like I was in the middle of a concert. This was done without the use of the surround sound speakers. It was that good.

CONS:

* The speakers themselves will be more dependent on which receiver you use rather than the speaker itself for incredible/great sound. If you use a subpar receiver/amplifier, your sound will be that as well, regardless of speaker quality. If you want these speakers to cry out to you in a good way, invest in a good receiver with ample power. Even though these speakers provide a great balance of sound, including bass, it is still, in my opinion, better to have a separate bass subwoofer (or two for some rooms) to aid with sound quality in the extreme low-band frequencies.
* These speakers come with both carpet spikes (to hold in place) or rubber feet if used on hardwoods/tile. Personally, I like the rubber feet even on carpet. They are so heavy (each is ~60 lbs), that they are not moving anywhere. If they need to be moved or adjusted with rubber feet used, it can be done easily without having to pick up (if using the spikes).
* These speakers are installed onto a wooden base. This base is static and does NOT swivel.
* I did not have a need for using the foam bass woofer plug provided.
CONCLUSION:

Almost Perfect Toast

The Cafe Express Finish Toaster is a great addition to any kitchen's small appliance collection. It comes in 3 main colors (matte black, matte white, and stainless steel) and adds a touch of class to the area. The package comes with the toaster and the owners manual. It comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty.
PROS:
-----------
* Easier to use than a mini toaster oven, and more importantly, easier to clean
* Toasts extremely fast
* Extremely sturdy with it's solid/sticky-like rubber feet
* Easy to empty crumbs from the pop-out crumb tray.
* The toaster holds the bread in place by condensing the sides onto the bread when the lever is depressed (see picture, OPEN/CLOSED)
* It allows to toast ONE-SIDED pieces of bread (ie. bagels, hamburger buns). The toasted section should face outward as shown by the diagram on the top of the toaster (also pictured).
CONS:
-----------
* Does not toast evenly on both sides. The food item gets significantly toasted more on the inside sides (facing the center of the unit).
* Instructions do not state the exact function of the "Reheat" button.
* Frozen is meant for frozen bread; however, I have not seen much difference in toasting with that setting vs the express setting. I didn't see the real need for the frozen setting.
* Based on this product toasting bread and perhaps waffles, using levels 5-8 appears to burn whatever food is placed in the unit. I'm unsure what else these high levels would be used to toast without burning.
SAMPLE RUNS: (see attached pictures for mode and doneness)
1. Level 1: 0:38 on Express mode, bread, lightly toasted
2. Level 3: 0:50 on Express mode, bread, almost burned inside, the other side toasted ok
3. Level 4: 2:09 on regular mode, bread, burned inside, the other side toasted ok
4. Level 4: 0:58 on Express mode, bread, slightly burned inside, but outside face toasted ok
5. Level 4: (did not get time) on Express mode using bagel mode, hamburger buns, toasted just enough before burning
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* There are 8 levels to pick from; however, at level 4, the toast will start to burn at that point. Having a regular piece of toast in there for levels 5-8 would char it.
* Each of the 3 color options include the trim which is called "bronze". If you want to have a better idea of what this trim looks like, think "rose gold". That's probably a better description of what they state as "bronze" trim.
* The power cord is long enough for most locations in a kitchen, 3 feet long. It has a 3-prong plug.
* After you use the toaster in a specific mode, that mode clears the next time you use it. So if you want to make 3 pairs of toasts back-to-back-to-back, then you'll have to enter express/frozen/bagel each time. So if you choose bagel the 1st time, make sure you select bagel the subsequent times or both sides will get toasted instead of just the outside/cut part.
* The light around the knob lights up more as you go from level 1 to level 8. When 1 of those 4 buttons are depressed, there is a small LED that lights up so you know that function is active.
CONCLUSION:
===================
There isn't much to this item. It toasts. That's it. I like that it can toast quickly with the added elements in the unit, but I don't like how both sides are not toasted the same - ever. One side is always more done than the other for some reason and I'm not sure why OR if that's how it was designed. I like that the crumb tray is very easy to remove and the unit as a whole is easy to clean. If the irregular heating gets corrected, it will be a five-star product in my opinion.

Impressive Wi-Fi Bulbs with Abundance of Options
on September 29, 2020
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
If you're looking for a great alternative to regular LED light bulbs, the Peace by Hampton Wi-Fi bulbs are a great choice. This package of Peace by Hampton light bulbs comes with 4 bulbs & instruction booklet.

PROS:
-----------
* The biggest "pro" is that a hub is not needed for these lights to work. They independently connect to your Wi-Fi network, so they should work right out of the box with no added equipment.
* Full color spectrum available, not just X number of colors.
* Another great aspect of the full spectrum/hue is the fact that you don't have to worry about the light being too blue or too yellow. You can literally adjust how warm/cool you want your light in order to have the perfect balance to your room. With these bulbs, you'll get THE perfect hue/warmth you desire.
* The Peace by Hampton app offers a ton of options including room designations, scheduling, and animations. You can also custom-rename each light bulb which is great if you have many bulbs in different locations.
* (Per the box data) If you use these lights for 3 hours/day, they are expected to last 13.7 years. At $60 for 4, that would be a good thing.
* I have 3 lamps using these light bulbs in my living room. Even if you have your bulbs on a timer, you have the option of turning ALL lights on/off in a specific room with one button in the app (the "Tap-to-Run" feature) Very convenient. (ie. "Living Room Off" and "Living Room On"). Once you define an animation, you can simply turn it on/off instead of deleting and re-setting it back up. Another good convenience.
* You can add different users to your "Home" that you define in the app, all of which will create their own login with their own email address. They'll get a code to get added to your "Home"... and you can define them as an "administrator" or "common user", each of which has their own permissions on what they can do. Very nifty feature so your spouse/kids don't login as you. You can even have the lights come on at times when the weather is dark/bad when skies get darker earlier than normal and light is needed.
* You can control the lights from anywhere in the world using the app. As a security measure, you can randomly decide when to turn on lights when you're out or automate it remotely. This will make it appear someone is home.
* Light bulbs are made with plastic on the outside, so you don't have to worry about glass breaking like with normal incandescent light bulbs. In addition, bulbs are also cool/warm to the touch after being on, so you shouldn't burn yourself if removing from a fixture just after using.
CONS:
-----------
* The app could use some more animation types/speeds. You can select the speed in which the colors change, and up to 8 colors I think. You can slow this transition speed down quite a bit, but the high speed could be a bit faster, especially if you're trying to put together some wacky lighting effects that need more speed. This appears to be something that a firmware/software update might be able to fix.
* I had issues in pairing up one of the bulbs. It would never connect either with EZ or AP process. I thought it was defective so I moved on. As I added the next bulb, for some reason, the app added both the new one and the one that failed to load previously. Strange. The last 2 bulbs added fine. Perhaps an anomaly. If I had not tried another bulb in the package, I would have assumed they did not work at all.
* If you put the bulb in a device and turn the device off, then the bulb will show offline in the app. In this case, you can't do anything with it until it is turned on at the source (ie. lamp).
* These bulbs are of the A19 (standard) screw size, so they might not be able to fit some outdoor light fixtures (ie. Halloween orange lighting wouldn't be available for those light fixtures)
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------
* These bulbs are capable of being used with Google assistant and Alexa; however, I don't use these assistants, so am unable to give feedback on this feature.\
* Puts out the equivalent of a 60W light bulb in 10W LEDs. Lumen-wise, it puts out 800 lumens. Personally, I'd like to see at least 1000 lumens on its brightest setting so some of the darker colors can be brought out more.
* We are primarily using these lights for automation purposes... on and a time, then off at a time. Nothing complex. Keep in mind that you will likely have to choose HOW you turn your lights on/off - either with a switch OR with the app. You can't really use both. You don't want to have to hunt our phone down if you want to simply turn on your lights/lamps.
The colorful room pictures attached to this review are during daytime with blinds closed and in a lamp shade. They still produce some decent colorful light.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
If you're tired of turning on/off lamps around your house and need an automated way to make that happen, these WiFi bulbs are an excellent choice. With no hub being needed, these are a great alternative that literally are plug, connect, and play. You can really color-up a room during Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc. With all the features, automation, sharing capabilities, and options, you can't go wrong here. This 4-pack will last for years, add flair to your rooms, and make things easier on a daily basis with automation. Very good product, highly recommend.

Great Robot, but needs a few more tweaks
on September 17, 2020
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Ecovacs has released its new robot, the DeeBot Ozmo T8+. This robot vacuum has the ability to auto-empty itself after vacuuming. The contents of the package include: T8+ robot, home base unit, plastic "ramp" extension (for carpet location), detachable power cord, 2 base dust bags (1 comes in the base), 2 robot air filters (1 already installed), 5 disposable mop pad attachments, 1 washable/reusable mop pad attachment, 2 extra spinning side brushes, and instruction booklet/warranty papers. 1-yr warranty provided.
PROS:
--------
* Setup is a breeze, both in snapping on parts to the robot and in setting up the home base.
* It has a really great object avoidance system. I put a bowl of water for our dog in one of the areas and the robot easily went around it without bumping into it which would have caused it to spill. Of course it also has sensors for stairs so it won't roll off the edge.
* The motor/blower on the vacuum is extremely quiet on default settings, even on carpet. We have a carpeted closet off of our bathroom, and when the robot goes into the closet, it can barely be heard from the bedroom. If it's running in another room than the one you're in, you will be pleasantly surprised how quiet it is, especially on hardwoods. If you have bumpy tile, you may hear quite a few thuds in this case.
* The auto-empty feature cleans out the bin at the home base very well. It takes around 15-20 seconds for it to clean out each time a cycle completes.
* You can create AREAS after mapping is complete which makes it easy to pick certain areas to vacuum if the whole floor doesn't need cleaning. In addition, you can square off an area manually in case you only want an area done that isn't already defined. This is a good feature if you are unable to separate areas initially (which I was unable to do - separate the dining from the living due to the shape of our layout).
* The app provides multi-floor mapping. If you need to move it to another floor, and if both floors are mapped, then cleaning areas on different floors should be simple. Keep in mind that if you move to another floor, you should put the home base in the same location as when you mapped the floor. If you move the base after a floor has been mapped, there is a strong possibility it will get lost and not find the base at the end of the cycle or clean the wrong section(s).
* The removable dust bag in the base is easy to remove and replace when bag fills up. You will get a notification when bag is full (and then you get to buy more bags).
* It does well in avoiding LIVE movement, including small dogs. As the vacuum was traveling, my dog would get in the way at times, and it would maneuver around the dog or wait for him to move out of the way. As stated before, object avoidance is one of the high points of this robot.
* Good overall app notifications and interactions for the user. Quite a few options to pick from including cleaning logs, zooming in on area maps, scheduling cleaning times/areas, and maintenance reminders. If a robot software update is needed (mine needed one out of the box), it's self-explanatory to use via the app. You can also select a room cleaning sequence to have the robot clean specific areas in a specific order in addition to controlling the number of times the robot cleans the area (either 1x or 2x), suction power, and water flow (for mopping). There are 3 vacuum speeds (and off for mopping) and 4 water flow settings. If no mopping is needed, then keep the reservoir empty.
* Manually taking out the robot's dust bin is simple and easy to clean whatever the home base doesn't suck out. It will still need to be cleaned from time to time but the home base does do quite a good job autocleaning the bin/filter.
CONS:
--------
* Something needs to be done regarding the very thick power cable. It is very similar to one that you would find on the back of a desktop computer. It's about 1/4-inch in diameter. In addition, on the back of the base, there is a place where you can wind up remaining slack in your cord; however, if you are already near an outlet, there is not enough room to loop all that thick cable without it coming off (see picture). This product needs a MUCH thinner and more maneuverable cable.
* No one that I know wants to be forced to buy vacuum accessories. I don't either. With the base, you must buy additional dust bags after they fill up from the numerous dumpings of the robot. There really needs to be a way to empty a container instead of having to buy more bags. Without an usable bag, the auto-empty feature is useless and won't work. Order more bags = $$. From what I gather, it takes about 30 trips before the dust bag fills up, but that may depend on how dirty your place is.
* The robot has a difficult time taking the "best route" back to the home base after cleaning an area. It sometimes gets caught under chairs/tables instead of going the most clear route. It has a map built-in, so it should know to go around obstacles instead of getting lost for a few minutes before finally getting to the base.
* When sent to clean an AREA or CUSTOM area in the app, it vacuums on the way there which causes battery power to lessen quicker. I don't understand that function since it doesn't vacuum on the way back to the home base when its done with an area. In addition, it doesn't take the most direct (or clearest) path to the room you select. It even stops and vacuums partial areas of other rooms before it gets to the destination. This is shown on one of my app screenshots. You can see in the green area, it starts at the base, goes through the kitchen, but cleans part of the kitchen (notice the path has irregular path on the way to the utility). To me, this should be able to be fixed with a firmware update. If it's not vacuuming on the way there, then this won't happen.
* The app has frequent "Data acquisition timeouts. Pull to Refresh" errors when trying to connect to the robot. I am using the latest Samsung S20 Ultra and Fold phones.I am not certain how Apple performs.
* During both the mapping and vacuum-after-mapping, the robot continues to be very sporadic when choosing a path. It goes in circles in the middle of the floor at times and doesn't make the best of cleaning path decisions. It all gets done, but could be done faster with a better logic.
* The robot continues to have issues docking after cleaning has completed. Numerous times, it will line itself up to the home base, go up the ramp and appear to dock successfully... then it backs up and does it again. It has failed as many as 3 times in a row before docking successfully the 4th time. It's very random as the dock is in the same place each time. There are times in which it docks the 1st time. Another software update may be needed to fix this as well.
* The app has a lack of "AREAS" available to the user to name each room. There is no "Custom" field unfortunately. So if you have a game room or a media room next to each other, for instance, you're out of luck. You'll have to name them something else. Here are the options: Living, Dining, Bedroom, Study, Kitchen, Bathroom, Laundry, Lounge, Storeroom, Kids room, & Sunroom. An app update should fix this issue if they choose to correct.
* Though the vacuum motor is incredibly quiet, if you are running the robot over a tile floor, it may be a bit noisy as the front plastic wheel hits all of the grooves between tiles. That can be noisy and annoying to some people especially if running on a floor above you.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* The robot auto-empties each time it is used. I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but there is no way to turn this off/on in the app. Perhaps the user could opt to only empty the bin once it is full instead of every time or maybe even 3/4 full.
* I have wood/carpet in my house with a very limited area of tile (small bathroom)...so I did not use the mop function. It does come with a reusable mop pad and 5 disposables which is good.
* Initial mapping of a 1500 sq-ft area could take as long as 8-10 hours, depending on complexity of furniture, rugs, etc. It vacuumed/mapped on its 1st trip for 3 hours before requiring a recharge which took about 3.5 hours, then it completed the rest of the mapping. The instruction manual states it can take up to 6.5 hours to fully charge. All-in-all, the robot took 8.5 hours to map 1485 sq-ft. This includes kitchen, nook, utility, study, master bed/bath, 2 closets, dining, living, hall, and main entry. There are 3 area rugs in those locations and 100% carpet in the master bedroom.
* The brushes/filters have to be replaced after so much use. After nearly 19 hours of cleaning, my side "spinner" brushes are at 91%, main brush at 96%, and filter at 89%. You can gauge about how often you might have to clean/replace your robot parts, but replacements being needed are definite.
* We have a non-shedding dog. If you have shedding dogs/cats, then your experience may be slightly worse than mine since we didn't have as much to pick up hair-wise. For shedding animals, your vacuum will work quite a bit harder and longer.
* It has 2 spinning side brushes instead of one. These brushes rotate towards the front from the sides in order to help feed dirt and trash to the middle of the robot.
CONCLUSION:
===========
This is my 2nd vacuuming robot. I have one of another high-end popular brand robot which is 2 years old, and this one outshines the other one in most areas. My biggest issues with the Deebot are having to purchase more bags for the home base unit, and the erratic paths it takes while on the way and doing jobs, even after mapping has already occurred. I think some of the logic in the software just needs a little adjusting to improve the path that it takes. It's definitely one of the top robot vacuums out there that I have seen. It just needs a little more work to be near perfect but still great.

Solid Dual-USB-A Car Charger
on September 4, 2020
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
Belkin has a great travel companion available now with this 2-port car charger which provides 12 watts per port. The package comes with the charger, 39-inch lightning cable, and minimal paperwork. This product comes with a 2-year warranty. There isn't much to this product as it is very basic and easy to use.
PROS:
-----------
* Obviously plug-and-play. Fits in the car's 12V port snugly and is well built/solid
* Light illuminates on the top when power is provided to the unit
CONS:
-----------
* Ports are placed close together as expected with this type of compact product, but if you have wide USB-A cable ends, they could possibly press against each other and cause a tight or angled port entry which you want to avoid
* Perhaps the cable could be longer than 39" and provide a USB-C cable in addition to lightning cable
CONCLUSION:
===================
Simple product, easy to use, and does its job. No complaints. Go get you one before you go on that long road trip if you need some extra USB charging ports.

how does it sound with music on a computer?

Sound is good for gaming mainly. If you have bass sounds in a game, they sound very good. But if you're looking for bass sounds in music using this speaker, you'll probably want to go with a speaker system with a dedicated sub.

Keep your patios and entryways looking great with this Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit. The lightweight construction makes cleaning tasks easier, while the long-lasting battery lets you get through extensive jobs before having to recharge. This Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit blows up to 85 mph to get solid results fast.

How long does this run after a charge?

I got around 14 minutes on a full charge. Hoover claims 16 minutes but I was unable to get that multiple times. If you get the 3Ah battery, time will be more, but I'm not sure how much more since that battery was not included in the box.

Drive safely with this Cobra super HD dash cam. Its 1296p recording resolution captures high-quality video footage in any lighting condition, while the extreme temperature protection is tested to withstand sudden fluctuations. This Cobra super HD dash cam provides iRadar route tracking and live police alerts when connected to the iRadar app, so you never miss a thing.

How long does the cobra dash cam hold the footage does it erase it over how can you look back a week to see the footage

it keeps the footage until it starts looping and writes over it. That is, unless the file is protected by manually hitting the blue button on the back of the unit OR if a video is triggered due to GPS event (car is hit). It will also depend on how big of a microSD card you use and how much time is used driving. Many factors.

What is iRadar? How does it work

iRadar is just an app you put on your phone that works with this Cobra dashcam. Without the iRadar app running on your smartphone and bluetoothed to your unit, you won't get GPS data. So you have to turn on the app each time you drive if you want GPS data embedded on your videos. And even then, your MPH won't be on the video itself - it's only seen with the HD Dash Cam program you download from the Cobra website. I have a couple of screenshots on my review with GPS data and without GPS data.

Enjoy a theater-like experience in the comfort of your home with this 370W Samsung soundbar system. Wi-Fi functionality offers hands-free voice control with select devices for an easy intuitive user experience, while dual HDMI ports connect multimedia equipment. This Samsung soundbar system includes a wireless subwoofer that adds rich bass for immersive audio.

Will the new hw q80r shut off like the hw n850 after 5 min of paused movie.

Q80 should do everything the N850 did. Based on specs and my experience with the two, the changes from last year to this year are a name change and a couple of cosmetic changes (dark gray to black chasis, smaller Harmon Kardon label on top of bar, circular fabric over the subwoofer driver instead of cloth covering the entire side). Oh, and they now offer 1 more wifi audio service in addition to Tune-in. They offer Deezer too. Still no Pandora or Spotify via the Smartthings app unfortunately.

Will the lid hinge rest/scratch upon the surface when opening it?

It just opens/closes with no latch mechanism. It rests flat against the base but I don't see how it would scratch it.
