This Monitor Packs a Nice Punch For Its Size
on July 8, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
HP has come out with their new 25" OMEN gaming monitor with G-Sync/Freesync technology. The monitor has some great features while remaining at a price point that most gamers might like. The package comes with the monitor, HDMI cable, VESA adapter plate (w/screws), DisplayPort cable, USB 3.0 to Micro-USB Type B cable, power cord with transformer (brick), and some paperwork.
PROS:
-----------
* The look of the overall apparatus is exceptional. The ability to create your own light color and pattern on the OMEN logo on the base is pretty cool.
* Ability to hang headphones behind the screen on a built-in stand. This is a good feature; however keep in mind that if you have padding on the top of the inside of your headphones, it may get mis-shapened from the square hanging spot on the monitor stand.
* It's fast and seamless with G-sync/freesync on. 1080p gaming is nothing with this monitor. It doesn't miss a beat. I usually play Fortnite and Grid 2 along with a few other games on the Steam network. The monitor communicates with my tower and never has skipping or lag issues.
* Moving the monitor up and down can be done with ease.
* It comes with a VESA adapter (which I don't need) which can come in handy in some scenarios when those apparatus are used.
* The monitor has an abundance of inputs and additions on the back (2 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort, 2 USB, USB Type-B, and portable lock hole). The USB come in handy for other peripherals that you may need quick access to and don't want to run cables to the PC.
* Wire management placeholders on the back. As simple as that is, some monitors still don't come with wire management. Nice addition.
* Screen is anti-glare and works well.
CONS:
-----------
* There is no rotating the monitor left/right or from landscape to portrait orientation. The unit can be tilted forwards/backwards and raised up/down.
* The power button is on the back right side with function knob. It's in a bit of a hard-to-reach place if the right side of your monitor is placed next to something. The bottom of the monitor would be preferable.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-------------------------------------
* The monitor does not support 4K or HDR; however, the speed of the monitor is what drives this product. For a 25-inch monitor, it will be difficult to be able to tell 1080p from 2K from 4K by the human eye. HP got it right by keeping the cost down and concentrating on a high refresh rate and minimal response time.
* There are no speakers built-in, but are you really going to game with monitor speakers?
* The monitor screen extends to the edge of the bezel; however viewable screen is still about a quarter of an inch from the edge, so there is still a black frame seen between the viewable screen and edge of monitor.
* I have read that the monitor settings can also be adjusted via HP program running on the PC it's connected to via USB type B cable. I have not tried that; however, if that works, that would be a huge plus rather than having to deal with the one button control on the back side.
CONCLUSION:
==============
For monitors in this size category, refresh rate, mechanical features, and ease of use are my most important issues. 4K/HDR can be left for much bigger screens/TVs as the human eye can barely decipher between them at this size. With the height of the monitor able to be adjusted, that's a big "plus" as I have a BT speaker that I place just below it. Without that adjustment, I would be forced to use another sound source. With the fast refresh rate and G-sync, this is one of the best buys at this price point. If you're short on space, this may be the perfect monitor for you. It packs a nice punch.

Great All-around gaming PC for the cost-conscious
on July 8, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
HP has come out with a new gaming tower, the OMEN Obelisk. There are different levels of hardware available, but this one works well for the money-conscious. The package comes with the PC tower, regular keyboard and mouse, power cord, and some paperwork. The PC comes with a basic HP 1-year warranty.
Rather than go over ALL the specs which you can already find on this Bestbuy.com page, I'll try to give more observations of those specs instead.
PROS:
-----------
* Visually, the tower is simple, stylish, sleek, and gives great access visually to what's going on inside.
* HP has created the ability for you to change the color, pattern, and frequency of light inside the chassis and on the OMEN logo on the front of the computer. Nice added feature.
* The PC boots up lightning fast with the provided 256GB SSD as expected. And the best-in-class i7 9th-gen 9700F processor is what you want in a gaming PC
* USB Superspeed with HP Sleep & Charge port (on the top/front). This is great for charging up wireless headphones when the computer is in sleep mode. Great feature by HP.
* HP put a combo headset/mic jack and a single mic jack on the top/front in the event that you have one or the other. You are not forced to use what they choose - they give you the option.
* Smooth seamless gaming. I have used for Fortnite and Grid 2 along with a couple of other less-intensive games on the Steam network. There is no lag when playing games even on wi-fi (we have 100Mb/s up/down fiber connection)
* This PC comes with an extra HDD expansion slot in the chassis. Thank you HP for including a data cable in this model. (The last OMEN I had did not include an extra data cable so one had to be purchased.)
* Easy access to the inside of the chassis.
* Includes 16GB DDR4 SDRAM (1 stick). There is one more slot you can use to expand further; however, due to the nature of the SDRAM installed, if you do expand, you may have to buy 2 brand new sticks rather than 1 due to the nature of the existing one. It's complicated, but if the 16GB is working fine, just go with that.
* For other tasks other than gaming, the system barely blinks. Windows Update and video authoring may be the only things to get it to work harder.
CONS:
-----------
* As is with most HP's, the keyboard and mouse are basic at best. Most gamers will have their own keyboard/mouse combo anyway, so HP decided to put the lowest of the low in the box. Probably a cost-effective decision on their part for them.
* Lack of USB-C ports. There is only 1 on the back. I would prefer to have at least 1 available on the front somewhere with more and more devices going to USB-C now.
* The unit can get a little loud if intense gaming is in progress; however I rarely was able to push it to that limit with the games I was playing. Most of the time, it looks to exert very little effort to make your experience a good one.
* No optical drive (DVD/CD)
* Minimalistic power button. Usually a power button is easier to find and is a highlight of controls. This one does have easy access though and does not light up.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-------------------------------------
* For 1080p gameplay, you're good to go. If you get into 4K play @60fps, the Graphics card (GeForce 1660 Ti) may slow you down a little. This being a money-saving gaming tower, 4K doesn't seem to be taken as much into consideration.
CONCLUSION:
==============
Overall, this gaming desktop gives quite a lot of bang for your buck. It is minimal in its build but does give some expansion options in places. The lack of an optical drive may also be a make or break piece of hardware. At times, you really need one. I'll be using for a while. Looks cool with the see-through chassis and lighting, it's fast, and as long as you have your own keyboard/mouse, this is a great option. Unless you're a serious CPU-intensive gamer, this should work for most people.

Good monitor, poor stand craftsmanship
on July 3, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
The new 34WL500-B is one of LG's new 34" Freesync monitors available at Best Buy. It is a 21:9 Ultrawide (2560 x 1080) 1080p IPS monitor with HDR. The LG official site states that this product is on the low end of 34" monitors that LG makes, so the price point is lower than the other models. This model comes with the monitor itself, an HDMI cable, 3-pronged power supply, installation CD, and warranty/instructions/other paperwork. The monitor comes with a 1 -year warranty which covers parts/labor.
DISCLAIMER: I used this product with an HP OMEN gaming tower that is approximately 1 year old.
PROS:
-----------
* The sheer screen size is awesome. You will have a ton of real estate to work with regardless of gaming, watching videos, or other tasks.
* Huge plus especially for people that work with massive Excel files or video editing programs. This allows that single window much more space to work. Other tasks such as web browsing and email doesn't offer a huge benefit except that you can look at both (split screen) at the same time.
* Good color range. Great motion when gaming. Freesync aids in the play of quick-moving graphics, and I can tell the difference while playing Fortnite.
* The software CD included with the monitor is convenient for quick display changes where you can split up parts of the screen in different formats. This is handy so it does not have to be done manually.
* One single knob on the bottom of the monitor controls a multitude of functions; however, the main functions are power on/off and volume if you use the VOL OUT AUX on the back of the monitor.
CONS:
-----------
* The power plug was quite disappointing. It's a bigger-than-normal plug-in brick with 3 prongs and is only 5-ft long. This takes up more space at your power supply location. The cord itself could stand to be a few feet longer for routing purposes through an executive desk or similar. If the cord is not long enough, you will have to use an extension cord that can accept a 3-prong plug. Not the most convenient.
* There is no cable management on the back of the monitor. It would be nice to have a loop or tie-down area for cables to be managed better. One option is to get double-sided velcro and tie the cables to the back stand, but that does not look very good either. If your monitor is facing a wall, this won't be an issue.
* The monitor stand is very wobbly and rickety compared to all other stands I have had. It almost feels like it may break if you move it the wrong way too far.
* The monitor cannot be moved up/down. The height "is what it is" unless you attach to a swing arm mount. You can rotate the angle of the screen somewhat (-5 to 15 degrees) but that does not help with viewing height, especially after long periods of using. Your neck will start to feel the effects of a tall screen depending on your chair vs desk height.
* Only 2 HDMI inputs are allowed. For those with computers that don't have HDMI connections, a DVI option would be great.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* Like most monitors, this one has a sleep (auto-off) feature so it does not have to be powered on/off each time the PC is turned off.
* Like other "frameless" monitors, the picture on the screen does not go fully to the edge of the monitor itself. There is about a 1/4-inch black non-used portion that frames the inside of each edge. It would be more of an "infinity screen" if the picture extended to the edge of the bezel.
* Watching videos can be hit or miss depending on the originating recording. You will most likely have black on the left/right sides of the monitor when watching full-screen because most videos aren't created in 21:9... most are closer to 16:9. Stretching a 16:9 video to full 21:9 will not make your picture better.
CONCLUSION:
===================
Overall, you get good bang for the buck with this 34-inch, 21:9 monitor. It's great for most applications including gaming. For work-at-home accountants and video editing peeps out there, this is the monitor for you. If there were a few more options and better workmanship on the construction of the stand, this monitor would get a near-perfect rating. The mere fact that it can't be raised or lowered is a huge minus as neck pain may be imminent for some people.

Samsung's Best Soundbar to Date
on June 8, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
If you're looking for a "hefty" sound bar, this is literally the heftiest system I have seen both in weight and sound. This system has the ability to fill a room and more. This package comes with the Samsung HW-Q80 soundbar, subwoofer, remote control (w/batteries), 2 identical power cords, HDMI cable, wall mounting brackets/hardware/guide, and user manual. Rather than go over ALL the specs which you can already find on this Bestbuy.com page, I'll try to give more observations of those specs instead.
DISCLAIMER: In BT pairing, I used both a Samsung Galaxy Fold and a Samsung Galaxy S10e.
PROS:
-----------
* Really, really great sound. The 13 individually amplified speakers provide a clean and crisp sound with limited/no distortion, even at high levels. 9 speakers fire forward, 2 fire out the sides, and 2 fire out of the top (at an angle). Combined with HK sound processing, it truly provides a submersive 5.1.2 sound experience even without rear speakers.
* The bar and subwoofer connect flawlessly upon power-up.
* Bluetooth (BT) devices connect flawlessly with my Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10e.
* Remote control is similar to the Amazon Fire TV remote as many other devices are also using this "smart" design. There was quick response from the remote to sound bar and the buttons felt solid.
* Durable mounting brackets and hardware are included.
* Samsung SmartThings app is useful in providing a graphic equalizer if you need more than just bass/treble settings. It is also used to manually push a firmware update to the device. Out of the box, there were no OTA FW updates to be taken.
* As with most newer sound bars, it provides HDMI ARC ability for digital audio. Of course, your TV will need ARC too for this functionality to work.
* If you have a Samsung TV, you can control the sound bar volume with the TV remote once they are synced together.
CONS:
-----------
* Sound bar does not include a headphones jack or coaxial input port. Even though sound quality lessens using analog, this is sometimes desired for some applications (ie. RF headphones that connect via RCA-to-3.5mm). The only audio port available besides HDMI is 1 Optical input.
* At this time, the wifi feature for the system do not offer much, other than controlling the settings of the sound bar and optional automatic updates. The "Tune-In" & "Deezer" applications are the only available wi-fi options built-in and are pay services after a free trial period. There is no Pandora or Spotify built-in.
* High price point could be an issue as this sound bar may cost more than your TV, possibly even double. On the flip side, this may be the best-sounding sound bar at this price point that I have heard. You will have to be the judge.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-------------------------------------
* This system appears IDENTICAL to last year's Samsung SW-N850 Sound bar system. The only differences I have seen between the 2 are cosmetic: (1) N850 is a dark gray, the Q80 is black (2) The Harmon-Kardon label on the top of the bar is slightly smaller on the Q80, and (3) the cloth on the N850 subwoofer covered the entire driver side, including the side of the box (rectangle area). The Q80 only covers the driver (circle area).
* This is the same sound bar and subwoofer as the Samsung SW-Q90. The Q90 however, includes 2 rear speakers which have 2 drivers each that improve the sound from 5.1.2 to 7.1.4. If you don't need as much depth/rear, then the Q80 will be plenty.
* This system as a whole is heavy. The bar is 19.4 lbs and the sub is 21 lbs. It's heavy-duty, but the sound created is also really good. It has rubber feet on the bottom to secure itself on most platforms without vibrating itself off the ledge (from heavy bass by the sub). The sub is also just bigger all over (~16"x16"), and the sound bar is longer than other sound bars I own. Check your area and the dimensions of each component before buying.
* Dolby Atmos can only be played back via HDMI. "Digital In" via optical fiber cable will not provide you with Dolby Atmos sound.
* The Soundbar only displays if the received signal is Dolby Atmos, or DTS:X. There is no display for any other received audio format.
* The grill on the front/top/sides of the sound bar is not removable like some other brands. It is made of metal which does protect the individual drivers of the bar.
* The system connects to the Alexa Echo via the SmartThings app; however, I don't have an Amazon Echo so did not test this functionality.
* The sound bar only has 2 HDMI-in ports, so if you have 3+ items to hook up (ie. Fire TV, gaming console, blu-ray player or other IOT devices), you'll want to go with another sound bar or receiver that will allow that capability.
* There is a sound port on the back of the subwoofer with the right side having circular black fabric which covers the subwoofer speaker inside the box. Keep in mind that the right side shouldn't be placed flush against something since the firing sub driver is located there.
* There are 4 button controls on the top/rear part of the sound bar: power, source, vol-, and vol+.
CONCLUSION:
==============
When looking for a quality sound bar system, you generally look for surround quality, frequency response, and price. You just want to have a great sound that immerses you in what you are listening to. The sound bar/sub alone does a great job giving good 5.1.2 sound. The rear/surround speakers are needed to give it even more depth but are included with the Q90 package. Volumewise, this system is plenty loud - loud enough for a full sized media room. The sub is huge and creates vibrating explosions and great bass for today's music. Personally, I'd like to see this product do more with built-in internal apps, specifically Spotify and Pandora so pairing to a device via BT is not necessary. An on-screen menu might be necessary for that functionality. The only thing in the SmartThings app was the Tune-It & Deezer pay services ... and I don't need to pay for another audio service. In conclusion, the bottom line is sound. You should be more than pleased with the sound of this beast for years to come. Great job again Samsung.

Solid Mount for CD Drive
on May 21, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
The iOttie CD Mount is made to slide into an EMPTY CD slot in your car in order to be able to utilize a good spot for your cell phone while driving. This can be hit or miss depending on the vehicle that you drive. The iOttie CD mount comes with the mount itself, a small metal plate, a large metal plate, clear plastic protective sheet, black adapter clip, and instructions/warranty (1-year).
DISCLAIMER: I used this product in a 2017 Nissan Frontier truck. I used both a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and a Samsung FOLD for testing purposes.
PROS:
-----------
* The design is very simple and easy to use and install
* Extremely durable build. High-quality materials, feels solid, does not have a cheap feel
* Magnets hold device in place extremely well in portrait orientation
* Ability to angle device to the perfect viewing angle in any direction is great
* The design will allow, in most cases, your phone to not block any air vents
* If the initial installation fit is too loose, the small adapter piece will cause the middle "wing" to push up further to keep in place better.
* The Samsung FOLD has a thick metal bar/hinge down the center of the back of the phone. I was able to adjust the FOLD to any angle as the magnets attached nicely to the very center of the back of the phone. It worked great in both landscape and portrait orientation AND no metal plates have to be used. This was a huge plus. Keep in mind that I have no case on the FOLD and it's heavy for a hand-held device.
CONS:
-----------
* Depending on your vehicle, your phone may or may not cover something important (A/C controls or stereo). Where you put the metal plate will also impact viewing area - if the metal plate is on the bottom of your phone, only the area above the CD player slot is impacted. However, if you put the metal plate in the center of your phone, then you'll have 1/2 of your phone sticking out (top/bottom) and blocking 2 things.
* Obviously, is you listen to CDs, this will not work. The CD slot must be empty to use effectively
* Though magnets hold well, keep in mind that if the metal plate is installed on the bottom of the back of a bigger phone, it may be more difficult to maintain a horizontal orientation of the phone as it will want to dip on the non-magnetic end due to weight. If the metal plate is in the center of the back of the phone, this should not be a problem but could affect wireless charging.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* The instructions state that the small plastic adapter piece (used to make loose connections tighter) can be shaken loose in order to remove. I was unable to remove using that method; however, using a pair of needle-nose pliers pulled it out safely and easily.
* With the CD player usually near the radio controls, just be mindful of those controls if your phone is blocking them. If you are streaming and using your phone for all things audio, then you may not have an issue. Also keep in mind the location of your car clock as the clock on some phone faces is very small and may be hard to read while driving.
* Mounting the metal plate directly behind the inductive charging area could hinder your wireless charging feature. Be mindful and test before adhering to the phone.
* iOttie makes another mount with an induction/wireless charging option. This mount does not have charging built-in and costs less.
CONCLUSION:
=================
This is a great device and very useful especially for phones/devices that have metal already as part of the housing. This CD mount concept will be hit or miss for everyone as the CD slot is located in so many different places depending on your vehicle. Some are up high which is good (like my Frontier), and some may be low (some newer Infiniti models amongst others) which could be a problem not only with viewing angle, but interference with other controls. The thing I enjoyed was the strength, durability, and the ability to change angles of the device so that even the passenger could use easily if needed (movies on long trips). While magnetically engaged, the phone can still be plugged up for charging (a wire is also used for wireless charging version of this mount, but to the mount itself). Overall, a great concept. With everyone using their phones today, this may help with creating a safer driving experience inside the vehicle. Please Don't text and Drive.

Nice Fast-charger does the job
on May 11, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
This is Belkin's new 10W Wireless Charging Pad which gives the ability to charge devices through wireless induction instead of a straight-through cable. The package contains the matte black charging disk, 4' micro-USB cable, & wall charger.
Disclaimer: For testing purposes, I used a Samsung Galaxy S8, S10e, and Fold. I did not use an Apple device.
PROS:
-----------
* For the phones I tested, the device supports FAST-charging which is great. This will happen if you use a "fast" wall charger like the one supplied with the product. If you plug into a USB port on your PC instead, it may charge at the regular charging rate.
* Rubber border on top keeps the phone in place
* Rubber feet on the bottom keep the whole thing in place
* Disk feels solidly built, no rattles or loose/noise plastic parts
* LED on the front signifies it is actually charging. LED turns off when not charging
* 4-foot micro-USB cord is of ample length for most places
CONS:
-----------
* I wish a USB-C cable was used. I know USB-C is more expensive to manufacture, but no one likes to have to check the ends of the cable to see which way it plugs in. Micro-USB needs to go away.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
------------------------------------
None
CONCLUSION:
=====================
This is about as simple a product as there is. The product does what it's supposed to do and has a good quality build. The rubber top/bottom keep everything in place, and the fast-charging capability on my Android devices is what makes this a good product. No one wants to wait forever for their phone to charge when in a hurry. Great little charger that gets the job done!

Worthwhile Investment
on April 2, 2019
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
DISCLAIMER: This product was reviewed by my wife.
The Conair Lumilisse IPL Hair Remover is a worthwhile investment for those who are constantly shaving, plucking, or paying for more expensive laser hair removal sessions. It comes with the laser gun, and 2 tips/shields - one for face and one for body. It also comes with an instruction manual which is easy to follow and includes a schedule for how often the device should be used. It is powered by a wall AC outlet (not batteries). I'm only about halfway through the cycle, but after 5 uses, I can already see a change the amount and texture of hair growth after shaving. Hair is slower growing, and the texture is much finer. I expect that when I complete the suggested number of sessions, that hair growth on the areas that I'm treating will be minimal.
The device allows for you to choose your skin pigment type, so that the intensity of the laser is adjusted to your skin. It takes a little bit to get used to how to position the tool on your skin. It must be lined up perfectly on your skin, or it won't work. It's also hard to use on areas with less fat, for example, above your lip. The reason is because the entire tip of the laser must be touching skin in order for it to work, so plumper areas are easier to manage. But, after a couple of sessions and little finesse, I was able to figure this out. I'm only doing under arms, a little on the face, and around my bikini line, and the whole process takes less than 10 minutes.
To use, you first place the laser gun to your skin for it to determine how intense the laser should be. Once that's done, you just position it over newly shaven skin (must shave at least 24 hours prior to use) and squeeze the trigger. It does produce a bright laser pulse every time you squeeze the trigger, so it's recommended that you don't look directly at it to protect your eyes. You just pulse it one time for each section of skin until the area is finished. You may feel a slight heat sensation with each pulse, but it's not painful at all. I've also not experienced any side effects like sunburn or irritated skin. The user guide suggests to do this every 2 weeks for about 6 weeks, then you switch over to every 3 weeks, and then once per month.
I have dark, coarse hair, and after 3 months of use, I'm starting to see a difference. I do still have to shave every day at this point, but I can certainly tell that I'm shaving less and the hair is much finer. The hope is that after another 3 months, I will be able to shave even less in those areas, if at all.
Pros
-------
* Costs less than professional laser hair removal sessions
* Instructions are easy to follow
* Machine is easy to use
* Doesn't take a lot of time to use, and you only do it about twice per month
* Hair is growing back sparser, thinner, and finer after half of the sessions are completed (about 3 months)
* No side effects so far (no sunburn, skin irritation, unusual smells, etc)
* Can do in the convenience of your home, rather than making an appointment with a professional
Cons
---------
* Positioning the laser can be a little tricky at first, especially on thinner skinned areas
* Could sting a little bit at first, especially if the laser intensity is too high
* Doesn't come with a bag or anything to store the product, shields, and cord in.
* Expensive, but worth it if you are someone who would invest in professional laser hair treatments
* Doesn't come with any eye protection (glasses) to shield from the laser pulses.

Flagship-rated headphones... needs a case though
on November 30, 2018
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
The Sony MDR-Z7M2 high resolution wired over-the-head headphones are one of Sony's flagship models. They are 2nd only to its model Z1R premium headphones which retail for $2300. These Z7M2's retail for $900 and are a 2nd generation model of the original Z7's released a while back. They have improved on the Z7 model to come out with the M2 version. The packaged box comes with the MDR-Z7M2 headphones, 2 detachable audio cables sets & warranty papers.
PROS:
-----------
* Incredible sound. The highs and lows of the sound spectrum are distinct. The highs are enhanced by the Fibonacci-patterned grill that smoothly reproduces sound properties which is challenging at ultra-high frequencies. This technology was inherited from the MDR-Z1R, Sony's top-of-the-line flagship headphones.
* Pressure-relieving leather-like earpads provide a ton of comfort - feels like memory foam around your ears and they are not too tight. They are ergonomically cut to fit the shape of the head.
* Semi-lightweight considering the enormous size. The aluminum hangers help keep the weight manageable. If you lean forwards or backwards, they do not fall off your head unless you jerk your head very hard.
* Headphone size adjustments on each side are of good construction/quality and feel very solid.
* Unlike some other headphones, the bass does not overwhelm you. The sound provided by the headphones feature the full frequency spectrum at a high quality with no distortion. Of course, if you want bass, graphic equalizers can be adjusted as such to get the sound you want.
* They have added ports on the outside bottom of each ear cup which aid in airflow for better sound and bass frequencies.
* This headphone has a nearly 200% bigger magnet in each cup than its predecessor Z7 which creates faster response to hi-res signals and results in better sound clarity.
CONS:
-----------
* I'm completely at a loss of words why neither a soft or hard carrying case of any kind was not provided for headphones at this price point. Soft bag carrying cases are provided for the lesser Sony headphone lines - why not this one? Big disappointment especially for travel needs.
* The headphones are incredibly huge - not a low profile like the Sony 1AM2 headphones. This may be due to the tech involved in making them, but they stick off one's head like Princess Leah's hair.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* 3.5mm cord length is an exceptionally long 10-feet and should be plenty long for most purposes. Included is a 1/4" audio plug which screws onto the 3.5mm plug for that size adaptability (for plugging into receivers, etc).
* Included in the box is a balanced-connection headphone cable (4.4mm) which is ~4 feet long. I am unable to use this connection for added audio clarity as I have no device with that output size. Based on what I have read, this type of cable will allow for an even more enhance listening experience.
* Unlike some other audio headphone cables that only have 2 ends, both of the included audio cables have a Y-connection point in which 2 ends plug into the earpieces (and screws down to each to keep from coming out) and the other into the audio source.
CONCLUSION:
===================
Overall, Sony did an outstanding job with these headphones, both in style, performance, and weight. The price point is steep but the sound quality is incredibly good. Some kind of case should be provided to protect while in transit or in general storage. The retail box would work for storage purposes but overall too bulky for travel and convenience. The product itself stands out big-time and will be rated as such. Great job, Sony.

Nice picture, but software & UI need some work
on November 30, 2018
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
DISCLAIMER: I originally had this TV that apparently was a complete LEMON. I have since received a new replacement set and will review mostly about the new replacement TV.
The Hisense H9+ is an entry-level 4K TV that is priced accordingly. However, at all price points, the TV should work at high quality with little to no delay/latency AND with limited software issues. The package comes with the TV, 2 detachable legs, plastic remote, 2 AAA batteries, safety/warranty card, and Quick User Guide. The full user guide is available online in .pdf format: https://www.hisense-usa.com/sites/default/files/support-doc/A%20%28ES-A175220%29%20UM%20HS%20MT5660%20eng%2020180226%20%281%29_H9E%20Plus.pdf
Rather than go over ALL the specs which you can already find on this Bestbuy.com page, I'll try to give more observations of those specs instead. In addition, my pictures show the positioning of how the ports on the back of the TV are laid out along with the rear speakers size & placement.

PROS:
-----------
* Good looking TV appearance-wise. Picture is high quality.
* I was able to easily connect my bluetooth (BT) keyboard to the TV which made setup much easier. If you have to use the included remote to enter your login information for setup and individual apps, it may take a little longer. I had no issues with the BT keyboard communication.
* Using the built-in Chromecast function worked pretty well in connecting; however, from time to time, the video would skip/glitch for a brief moment. In my case, a Samsung Note 9 was used to cast.
* No issues using ARC(HDMI) sound output to Samsung N850 sound bar. Sound was nice and clear.
CONS:
-----------
* Rickety remote. It's not falling apart but is built cheaply. If you tap the remote, you can hear the buttons vibrate as they are plastic except for the top 6 pre-set buttons for built-in apps. There was also a slight delay in remote to TV response after buttons were depressed. I've seen much better latency levels on other TVs.
* The speakers/drivers are on the back side of the TV (see picture). This really takes away from the quality of sound the TV tries to make without a sound bar or receiver. TV's this thin generally can't fire volume out the front, but they usually fire sound out of the bottom which, IMO, is better than firing out of the back. As for most flat screens, get a sound bar.
* The user interface (UI) is just wonky all over. It's a bit tedious to maneuver around and to get to things quickly. Software improvement is needed.
* While watching a series on Showtime Anytime app, I hit the play/pause button on the remote and the rew/play/pause/ff overlay pops up on the screen with "rew" highlighted. This was the Hisense controls, and they were overlayed OVER the Showtime Anytime rew/play/ff buttons. The only way to pause/play is to just hit the enter button to bring up the Showtime Anytime controls then hit Enter again to activate the highlighted function. Another software issue. In any case, the play/pause button on the remote does not work with this app the correct way.
* After the remote has been paired up using BT, it won't power up using BT. It will only power up using IR (line of sight). Once powered up, BT continues to work as normal. The TV will power off via BT though.
* When using BT to connect a sound bar (I'm using Samsung N850), the video & audio would never sync up, not even when using the lip sync and delay options in the Hisense settings menu. In addition, when BT was connected to the speaker, the video would also skip/pause at times which made anything you watch impossible to follow consistently. When using ARC for audio, sound was synced up with no issues.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
------------------------------------
* APPS NOT AVAILABLE: Of the apps I tried to find but were unavailable to download in the Play Store: Amazon Prime Video, DirecTV Now, (Cine)MAX-GO, CBS (to watch prime time and other shows)
* There is 6.8GB of Internal Shared space on the TV. There is nothing in the instructions stating an external drive or thumb drive can be added so the TV can have more apps installed. Of the 6.8GB available, ~889MB are apps/misc which leaves 5.9GB remaining for everything else you want.
* The TV is extremely thin on the upper half while the "guts" of the TV are attached to the lower half. This can make for a cool look but make a little difficult to move without cracking the screen, so extreme care must be taken.
* Nice screensaver feature which puts generic Google photos on-screen but it also shows an overlay in the lower-left corner "Chromecast built-in Learn more at chromecast.com/built-in"; and in the lower-right corner, it shows the time, photographer name, and "Google - Featured Photos" below that. Rather annoying with the advertising overlay. If they would leave the clock only, it would be ok.
* I was unable to get a legitimate RF antenna connected to the TV, so local channel setup was not done.
* Remote is not backlit nor does it have a good "feel" for where each button starts/stops into the neighboring button around the directional pad area.
* The remote control is infrared (IR) instead of bluetooth (BT) initially. The remote has to be paired up to the TV. Once paired, it worked fine.
* The built-in apps and Google languages that I removed in order to save some of the small amount of GB on this TV are: FandangoNOW, Pluto TV, Showtime, Sling TV, TikiLIVE, Vudu, YT Kids2018 FIFA World Cup, and Google Keyboards: Indic, Japanese, Korean, & Zhuyin.
* Composite (yellow/red/white) is available as an input, but (HD) Component (green/blue/red//red/white) is not.
ISSUES I HAD WITH THE ORIGINAL "LEMON" HISENSE TV (cliff notes version):
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* A google account was already defined on the TV with a hisense tag. If this was done at the factory, that needs to be removed prior to sending to customers. There should be no accounts defined on a new TV.
* Wi-Fi AND wired connectivity was horrible, even with 100Mb/s connection speed and 5GHz wifi frequency band used.
* Remote was even more rickety than the replacement.
* ESPN & FOXGO apps has severe strobing affects that appeared to be due to software glitches in the TV. The new set did not have these issues.
* "Ethernet Not connected" error on screen at startup when I had ethernet already connected. There should not be an error every time the TV is turned on. Software glitch.
* After customizing the home screen then powering off the TV, when turning TV back on, the home screen defaulted to factory settings, showing apps I had previously removed. Software glitch.
* On the favorite apps line (at the top), it was impossible to reorder the apps. Clicking the down-arrow brings up the menu to open, move, or remove from favorites. After clicking "move", buttons appear at the bottom of the TV but no way to access them. Another software failure.
* After watching Showtime Anytime and HBO-GO, eventually, both apps just wouldn't playback anything at all. I went to a series in Showtime Anytime, and got to the series and hit Play... the screen never played the episode. HBO-GO loads until it gets to the Rating page... tries to reload to start the show and gives an error. The only way I was able to combat this issue was to completely unplug the TV from the AC outlet. Simply powering down did not fix the app issue. In my case, only Showtime Anytime was able to play again. HBO-GO would still not play - continually produced errors. Had to uninstall app and reinstall to fix.
CONCLUSION:
=============
The pros and cons really speak for themselves. Generally, a good product will have few cons that can be worked around. The LEMON version of this TV wouldn't garner a 1-star rating in a 3rd world country. The REPLACEMENT I received was much better. The LEMON had serious software issues and gave a horrible customer experience. If you get a LEMON, return immediately and get it replaced. With the absence of DTVNOW, Amazon Prime, and others, you may still need to have an external device to watch cord-cutter apps not allowable on this TV via the Google Play Store. As with most bigger TVs, get a sound bar. This TV is no different. 10-20W speakers on TVs just aren't good enough so a sound bar will enhance your listening experience. Also, go with WIRED audio (not BT) or you may have serious audio/video sync issues which cannot be fixed. This is a software issue so no settings can fix this. Perhaps a firmware update will be released to the TV to improve audio/video sync. Because I had both a horrible and acceptable experience with this TV, I'm in the middle on this one. To be fair, the LEMON would get 0 stars if that option was available. The replacement TV would get 3 stars. There are still software issues that need to be corrected along with the cheapness of the remote and slight latency issues with the TV itself.

Great Vacuum... could use some minor improvements
on November 14, 2018
Posted by: BADog
from Hoover, AL
SHARK has a brand new addition to their great cordless vacuum lineup - the Shark ION X40. This is Shark's current "low-end" cordless upright vac. The package includes the motor unit, long connector tube, carpet/floor main cleaning module, upholstery attachment, skinny 8" crevice attachment, ION power battery pack, wall charger, quick user guide, and full owner's manual. The vacuum comes with a 5-yr limited warranty and also a 2-yr limited warrant on the battery.
PROS:
-----------
* The unit picks up dust and dirt very well, regardless of mode.
* Extremely EASY emptying of the dust/dirt collection area. Press a button on the side of the unit (while holding over a garbage can) and it falls out easily. Closes easily without any other parts shifting in place. Basically a simple door on a hinge.
* There is no index finger trigger that has to be held down to make the unit run. Using your thumb, the on/off button is on the back of the unit. This is a MUCH better design IMO because it also helps to avoid accidental power-ons. It is also great because it makes pushing/pulling the unit more comfortable because your index finger doesn't have to stay engaged to keep the unit running.
* The 2 filters are easily accessible for removing and cleaning. Clean with water only, dry for 24 hrs.
* The vacuum does have an overheating shutdown capability; however, after 40 continuous minutes of running in non-floor mode (floor attachment not attached) and then also after 12 continuous minutes of carpet mode on ION Boost (high) mode, it never shut down. My guess is that the only way this could happen is if you have the vacuum continuously running with the end clogged where no air could get sucked in.
* The floor module has 2 durable transport wheels on the back so it can be rolled from room to room with ease. The cleaning rollers do not engage unless the unit it bent down over the floor with your foot.
* The battery can be charged either in or out of the base unit. It has an easy quick-release button to remove it from the unit.
* The fact that this battery is not "built-in" is a great feature. If the battery ever fails, you can replace the battery, not the whole vacuum cleaner. Also, the remaining battery power level LEDs are built-in to the battery itself.
* There are a lot of attachments and accessories that can be added to this cordless vacuum cleaner (good), but most aren't included in the box (bad). The most-needed part that might should be added to the box is the wall mount.
* The control panel is well-lit and easy to read. Only 2 buttons control the functions, and also the power button.
CONS:
-----------
* The 2 small attachments (crevice tool and upholstery tool) do not *click" into place like some other brands. I like the click, and I like knowing it won't fall off and doesn't have to be pushed on with a necessary amount of force/torque. A minor issue, but a lacking convenience.
* For me, this was a "con" but may not be for some people - this unit does NOT hang on the wall unless you purchase a $40 separate wall mount module. It is made to stand up on it's native base with the motor section at the top removed and clipped on to the main pole near the bottom (see picture). It has no problem in this state but it is a bit odd. In addition, when in this storage state, the pole doesn't stand up at 90-degrees, so it won't sit flat up against the wall and save floor space - it sticks out from the wall more.
* If you want the rollers to activate in order to use on the floor, you must push down on the floor module; however, my unit was a bit difficult to "pop" loose. I had to step on the top of the floor module instead of the back side because it was snapped into place so hard to the neck of the module. It seems like there should be a foot button/lever to press and make the roller part bend at the neck easier. Mine sounded/felt like it was breaking each time I engaged the floor module. Extremely tight feeling.
* ION Boost (high) mode is triggered by pressing the ION Boost button; however, it only stays engaged for 1 minute then goes back to normal ION Power (low) mode. There was no button sequence or holding it down longer to make this function stay active without having to re-engage after every minute of use. This is bit of an annoyance having to hit the button each time instead of just remaining on high the whole time if needed. On the plus side, to turn off "high" mode before that minute is up, just press the ION button.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
------------------------------------
* The vacuum claims 40 minutes of run-time, but be sure to check the fine print and the "other" run times. Yes, I confirmed that 40 minutes is as long as the battery will last, per their advertising. I was able to get 39m:40s on the lowest setting and no floor module attached. Though 40 minutes is a stretch, it's there on the first few charges. Over time, that number will obviously decrease. In operating with the carpet setting with FULL power mode enabled (constantly), I was able to get 11m:56s of power until the unit died. These times were in line with the owner's manual table. Using the hard floor unit (low power) gets right at 30m of power while carpet mode (low power) gets around 25 minutes - so plan accordingly. If you need more time, you'll either need a plug-in unit or spare battery(s).
* Vacuum has 2 different modes: 1) Hard floors 2) Carpet floors. Vacuum has 2 suction speeds: 1) ION Power (low) and 2) ION Boost (high). You may use any combination of these.
* Regarding battery temperature: after 40 minutes of not using the floor module, the battery is not warm/hot at the end of that non-stop usage. Battery will recharge immediately. However, after 12 minutes of carpet mode with ION Boost (high) on the whole time, the battery is quite warm and requires about 20-30 minutes of cool-down time before it can be recharged. The battery physically won't allow it to be charged if it's too hot. The light-flashing sequence on the battery will let you know if it's charging or not while plugged into the wall unit cable.
* A completely discharged battery takes around 3 hours to charge.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, this was a well-thought out product. You'll generally get around 25-30 minutes of continuous non-boost floor cleaning and between 30-40 minutes of using the crevice and upholstery tools. If you need more time that that, you'll want to consider buying an extra battery or 2. Each battery runs $70. Most people won't need 2; however since the battery isn't built-in, that's a huge plus for this unit. Other brands with built-in batteries have to be recharged before using again, but not this one (if you have a spare battery). Not providing an included wall mount is a downside for sure. I'm not interested in spending another $40 to have the mount - include it with the main unit to make it a bit more complete. The easibility in emptying the dust canister is a huge plus over other brands. I'd say overall though, this product holds up well against the competition. A few tweaks here and there would definitely help make this vacuum a serious cut above the rest.

how does it sound with music on a computer?

Sound is good for gaming mainly. If you have bass sounds in a game, they sound very good. But if you're looking for bass sounds in music using this speaker, you'll probably want to go with a speaker system with a dedicated sub.

Keep your patios and entryways looking great with this Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit. The lightweight construction makes cleaning tasks easier, while the long-lasting battery lets you get through extensive jobs before having to recharge. This Hoover ONEPWR cordless hard-surface sweeper kit blows up to 85 mph to get solid results fast.

How long does this run after a charge?

I got around 14 minutes on a full charge. Hoover claims 16 minutes but I was unable to get that multiple times. If you get the 3Ah battery, time will be more, but I'm not sure how much more since that battery was not included in the box.

Drive safely with this Cobra super HD dash cam. Its 1296p recording resolution captures high-quality video footage in any lighting condition, while the extreme temperature protection is tested to withstand sudden fluctuations. This Cobra super HD dash cam provides iRadar route tracking and live police alerts when connected to the iRadar app, so you never miss a thing.

How long does the cobra dash cam hold the footage does it erase it over how can you look back a week to see the footage

it keeps the footage until it starts looping and writes over it. That is, unless the file is protected by manually hitting the blue button on the back of the unit OR if a video is triggered due to GPS event (car is hit). It will also depend on how big of a microSD card you use and how much time is used driving. Many factors.

What is iRadar? How does it work

iRadar is just an app you put on your phone that works with this Cobra dashcam. Without the iRadar app running on your smartphone and bluetoothed to your unit, you won't get GPS data. So you have to turn on the app each time you drive if you want GPS data embedded on your videos. And even then, your MPH won't be on the video itself - it's only seen with the HD Dash Cam program you download from the Cobra website. I have a couple of screenshots on my review with GPS data and without GPS data.

Enjoy a theater-like experience in the comfort of your home with this 370W Samsung soundbar system. Wi-Fi functionality offers hands-free voice control with select devices for an easy intuitive user experience, while dual HDMI ports connect multimedia equipment. This Samsung soundbar system includes a wireless subwoofer that adds rich bass for immersive audio.

Will the new hw q80r shut off like the hw n850 after 5 min of paused movie.

Q80 should do everything the N850 did. Based on specs and my experience with the two, the changes from last year to this year are a name change and a couple of cosmetic changes (dark gray to black chasis, smaller Harmon Kardon label on top of bar, circular fabric over the subwoofer driver instead of cloth covering the entire side). Oh, and they now offer 1 more wifi audio service in addition to Tune-in. They offer Deezer too. Still no Pandora or Spotify via the Smartthings app unfortunately.

Will the lid hinge rest/scratch upon the surface when opening it?

It just opens/closes with no latch mechanism. It rests flat against the base but I don't see how it would scratch it.
