Great Printer with lots of options
on July 5, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
This is the first tank style printer I've ever owned and so far I love it. If you're unfamiliar with the ecotank, rather than having ink cartridges you have to replace, the printer stores large quantities of ink in built in reservoirs. Instead of replacing the ink cartridges you just refill the ink tanks. Epson's pitch is that this is a much cheaper option than buying new cartridges. The ink is supposed to last up to two years which is no where close to anything I've ever gotten from a cartridge style printer. This alone is a sell for me because I can't count the number of dried out ink cartridges I've thrown away before I got to use them.
Setup:
Setup is super simple. The first thing to do is fill the ink tanks. You just rip the bottle up and connect it to the tank. It then drains into the tank. I was concerned this would be messy but, the connects on the tank and bottle don't allow flow unless they are both connected. I didn't drop a single drop of ink during this process, which was really surprising.
The printer then primes itself for about 10 minutes, then you go through the normal alignment process you do with every printer.
Setting up wifi was really really easy. You click your WiFi and put in the password. You're done. By far the simplest setup for a printer I've seen.
Printing:
The print quality is great, I have noticed any streaking and have been able to wirelessly print without any problems. You connect via the standard windows wireless printer option which is way better than having to use some proprietary software that other printers try to push. It's simple and it works.
The document feeder works well, no issues here. The scan quality is great and it folds up to make it's footprint smaller if you plan to keep the printer in a drawer.
Overall I haven't been more pleased with a printy. It's simple to use, has tons of features (scan, doc ffeed, wifi) and the two year ink supply makes this thing a great buy.

Great Mid-range Gaming Machine
on July 3, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I've owned a few Acer gaming laptops now and have been satisfied every time and this is no exception. I think the bang for your buck is outstanding with this laptop. Don't let the core i5 scare you away, this laptop will play most games at a reasonable frame rate all day long. This is a great option for someone looking to game on a budget.
The look:
This laptop looks sleek. If you like RGB and the edgy gaming look then you'll love this design. It's a very aggressive design but, the pictures are pretty true to what it looks like in real life. The build quality is high-end. No creaky cheap plastic here, it feels dense and sturdy. Speaking of dense, this laptop is not super portable, it's about what you would expect from a gaming laptop. Not super heavy but not ultra-portable either.
The Screen:
I love the size of the screen, 15.6 in is a great compromise between portability and screen real estate. Nothing looks super small or unreadable. The 1080p screen looks good. It's nothing ground shattering but, it doesn't look bad either. If you're coming from a 2k or 4k monitor you will be underwelmed. If not, it looks good and you won't notice.
Performance:
The GTX 1650 really shines on this laptop. I haven't had any problems playing fairly graphic intensive games. I haven't been playing at max settings on any games but, you can definitely set things reasonably high and still get high framerates.
The 128GB solid state is a great addition here and makes for super fast boot times. I wish there was more than 1 TB of HDD, you'll fill that up quickly if you play a lot of games, but I understand it being a laptop.
I would also suggest upgrading you're memory, 8 GB is pretty low for a gamine laptop and if you get anything super memory intensive you may end up running into issues. I didn't notice much but, could see it being a problem in the future.
Overall:
This is a great mid-range gaming laptop. Don't expect the same performance as a $2000 laptop but, for most casual gamers and those not worried about playing at the absolute max settings this will do just fine. The laptop may not be very future proof with the lower end CPU and low memory but, for the price I think you get some great performance.

Great Suction, Magnet Could be Stronger
on June 17, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I've always used car mounts that hook into the air vent of my truck and have never had one that will suction to the dash or windshield. I as very surprised at how well the mount stayed suctioned to the dash and windshield.
In the Box :
Yout get the mount, a clear plastic sticker to protect your phone from the metal plate, and two metal plates of varying sizes. The larger plate can be used under a case, while the smaller one can be used on the outside of the case.
Use:
I'm using the mount with the Apple leather case and was a little underwhelmed at the magnet strength. Getting the suction cup to mount to the dash was really easy and incredibly strong. I had a very hard time actually getting it off the dash. This thing is not going to slide around on you.
The magnet is fairly easy to attached but, under my case it will start to fall off the mount if I hit a bump hard enough. I don't think it would work very well if you had an Otterbox or something like that. Overall though I think it works really well for what it is.
I also have a wireless charger and the large metal plate doesn't interfere with the wireless charger if you place it at the bottom of the phone. It would interfere if you wanted to use the magnet it the center of the phone. Not a huge deal in my opinion but, it is something to keep in mind.
Overall, I think this is a great option for a car mount but, probably wouldn't work if you use a thick phone case.

Feature packed but, quirky setup
on June 7, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
This lock is living in the year 3000. I honestly had no idea that a lock this technologically advanced existed. It really is a wild and incredibly useful device but, the setup was definitely not seem less and took way longer than I thought it would. And that wasn't because of the actual installing a lock part. That was actually the easy part, getting the tech to work right was a little more complicated than I'd like.
What's in the box:
In the box you get the Assure lock, which features a traditional key entry as well as a touchscreen that will illuminate with numbers when activated. You also get an August connect which you can use to connect the lock to the August app and control the lock via Bluetooth and wifi. You also get a little white censor that you can mount to the door frame or inside the door frame to let you know if the door is open. You also get a deadbolt plate if you need to replace or don't have one on your door frame.
Setup:
It took a while. If you already have a deadbolt set in your door, you really shouldn't have to do much drilling. I just took out the old deadbolt and swapped in this one. It installs almost just like any other deadbolt with the exception of a ribbon wire that you have to route through the door from the touchpad to the deadbolt motor. It sounds more difficult than it actually is. This part of the install is actually very easy.
Once I got the lock installed and put a battery in it. I was greeted with a friendly voice, yes the lock has a speaker. The initial setup is fairly straightforward. You follow a series of menus, which you navigate through the touchpad and the voice guiding you, that are in the instructions and set a master pin. There are some other functions you can turn on and off from the keypad menu like autolock and guest codes but, you can do all this fro. The August app once you set that up so, no real reason why you'd want to do it this way.
After the pin is set you then set up the August connect. This is where things weren't as smooth.
The first step of the August install is to install the door sensor. It's a small sensor about the size of a thumbnail that you rather screw to the door frame or mount inside the door frame by drilling a hole and sliding it in the door frame. I chose the hidden doorframe method because I thought having the sensor visible was fairly unsightly. Installing the sensor wasn't very hard, all you need is a wood bit and a drill. You drill the holes and the sensor sits flush with the inside of the door frame. It looks super slick. But, there's one problem. The instructions just tell you to pop it in the hole but, if you wobble the drill at all and make the hole even a little too big, it isn't a super snug fit. And because I have a metal front door, and the sensor is nothing more than a big magnet, it would attach to the door as it opened almost every time. I fixed this with a little liquid nail in the hole but, seems like some adhesive should have been included.
After you have the sensor installed you install the connect module. This process is awful.
The initial setup has you connect the Connect module through the internet through some sort of apple airport process that failed the first three times I tried it. But, before it failed, it tried to connect the device to every wifi connection my phone had ever been connected to. It was strange. I finally got it to work when I connected my phone the the 2.4ghz connection on my router because, I guess this device doesn't have a 5ghz radio. The whole process was not straightforward and detracted from the whole setup.
After the connect is connected to WiFi, it has you calibrate the door sensor. This is done by opening and closing the door in a series of positions. This process also failed several times before it actually worked. I have no idea why it finally worked but, it did so I guess that's something.
Once you have the lock calibrated you can use all the functions of the August app like setting autolock times. E.g. if the door is closed for 2 minutes it auto locks. There are functions to text people temporary codes that will only work for certain times that you set. You can have over 200 of these at a time. There's another cool feature that auto unlocks the door when it senses your phone via Bluetooth. I was really shocked at how well this worked. The door would unlock when I got home but, not until I was within a foot or so from the door. Really cool. You can also lock and unlock the lock from the app too from anywhere.
Other problems:
I'm not a huge fan of the method used to lock the door from the outside. To do so, you place your palm over the touchscreen. The whole motion is awkward and not super easy to get right. This should have been made easier.
I also ran into a problem that my deadbolt plate was fractions of an inch off. The bolt would still latch and I had no problem fully engaging the lock manually but, the motor in the lock would get hung just before it latched fully. It seems a more powerful motor could have been used or a better calibrated lock to just give a little more push. I was able to file the deadbolt plate a little and now it works fine.
Also, the deadbolt plate screws provided are no where long enough to be effective. They are very short, less than one inch.
Overall, now that I'm passed the setup and initial hiccups, I'm very pleased with the lock. It works great, the app is easy to use, the keypad is responsible. Really it works well and gets out of the way. The only thing that should change is an easier setup process.

Everything you'd want in a charger
on June 7, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I've been looking for a good wireless charger for a long time. I've never loved the options that I found because it was hard to find a charger that supports qi and the apple watch proprietary method. This Belkin charger really does the trick. I have zero complaints about the device and have had no issues charging my phone.
What you get:
In the box you get the charging dock that supports iPhone and apple watch simultaneously. It also has a USB Jack on the back for charging a third device via a USB cable. You also get a wall wartto connect the dock to an AC power outlet.
Setup:
Setup could not be more simple. You plug the cord into the charging dock and the other end into the wall. There you go you have power!
Use:
Using the charger is super easy. The apple watch sticks to it just like the proprietary charger and from what I can tell charges just as fast. I really like that it sets the watch vertical, I think it look super sleek.
Charging your iPhone is just as easy, just lay the phone on the charger and you're good to go. The charge definitely isn't as fast as a wired charger but, it's quick and works great for a night time charger. I have a leather case and a metal plate on the back of my iPhone and have never had any trouble getting the charger to initiate a charge. I can't recall if I've ever adjusted the placement of the phone, it just works. I'm very impressed.
Overall I don't think you can go wrong with this product. It works great as a charger, it feels very sturdy and looks great sitting on a night stand. One of the best wireless chargers I've used.

You install Circle on each of your family devices to manage there device.
Use:
Once you have everything setup, the app is super easy to use. You can set filters for certain websites or mature content. You can also enable safe search for Google to filter out searches that may be for adults only.
The app also lets you set screen time limits to turn WiFi off at certain times or when ever you feel a family member has had too much internet. The filtering is really easy and takes the complexity out of parental controls.
The app also features neat perks like rewards. You can give your kids rewards which is a fun way to grant them extra game or internet time.
The filtering works really w3ll and does a great job doing exactly what it says it'll do. The Circle also comes with one free year of service. So you won't have to pay for anything for a whole year which is nice.

Ingenious little device
on May 10, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
My wife was ecstatic when we got the Conair Lumilise. Her mother has had a similar product and my wife used it a few times and thought it could be really useful. There really are very few products like this one. It offers laser hair removal in your own home. Something that could cost thousands of dollars. When you think about it that way, the price tag on this product is really a steal.
My wife has been using it for several months now and has seen fairly good results. The hair on her legs is definitely thinner. I think you need to be realistic in your expectations here too. You’re not going to lose all of the hair the very first time or even the first few times. It is a slow process but, it definitely does work. She says it’s a bit awkward to use on your own and can understand why. It definitely takes some skill to get to pointed just right. And unless it makes perfect contact with your skin it won’t even turn on. Which is a safety feature, and a good one because this light can’t be good for your eyes.
Another thing to keep in mind is your skin type. This only works on lighter skin tones. Otherwise it will hurt like crazy. Be careful around freckles and moles too, it causes the same problem.
If you fall into that category of skin type I think this is a great product and can really help thin out, if not completely remove unwanted hair. It’s not painful at all as long as you have the right skin tone. It’s fairly easy to use, although I would enlist help from someone if possible. And results show as long as you are patient and do your sessions like the directions state. Overall pretty happy with this product and think it’s well worth the price.

Not ready for prime time
on May 1, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91

I really wanted to like this product. On the service it offers something great. Access to Google Assistant, Bluetooth audio for a car that may not have the feature, and two USB ports for charging. This sounds like a great set up, and at $50, it's no more expensive than a Google home mini. The problem is it just isn't a well polished product.
The first odd thing happens when you set up the product. You'll need the Google Home app to set up the Roav. It will automatically find the Bolt when you plug it in. Then you go through a set up process where it connects via Bluetooth and gets everything ready to go. I wanted to use Bluetooth audio passthrough via aux (which is supported by the Bolt) but, for some reason inadequate me connect to a second Bluetooth signal for this. So, to have the product work you have to connect to two separate Bluetooth signals. This is weird and not very intuitive.
The second problem I had was playing music through the Bolt. I constantly have to restart Youtube Music because it constantly pushes when connected to the Bolt. This doesn't happen with any of my other Bluetooth connections so it has to be something here.
The big feature for the Bolt is Google Assistant. If you're hoping for Google Home quality, I wouldn't get your hopes up. There is a pretty serious delay after you say Ok Google, I had trouble getting Google to do anything on my iPhone other than tell me the time. I tried to launch maps several times and got mixed results. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. The Bolt can't hear you at all if you have the volume a little loud. Overall I haven't been using Google Assistant because it just doesn't work anywhere close to a Google Home.
I wish I could recommend this product but, given none of it's features work really well, I couldn't recommend this product. Maybe wait until version two comes out.

Decent budget turntable, lacking a few features
on April 18, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
I was really excited about this turntable when I first saw the pictures. Sony does a really good job making this thing look super speak and cool in the pictures but, I was a little disappointed once I actually got my hands on it.
Look and feel:
If you are expecting a high quality turntable, this probably isn't the one for you. I didn't realize it until I got it but, the entire turntable is made of plastic which definitely takes away from the quality of the turntable. But, again it's a budget turntable. The buttons on the turntable are super clunky and don't feel great. However, the platter and tone arm are both made of aluminum. So where it counts, Sony didn't skip on the materials.
The removable dust shield is nice and do like that you can easily remove the entire thing without unscrewing anything.
Functionality:
As a turntable I think it's better than some but, not the best. It does have an aluminum tone arm and the auto start stop buttons should help keep the record damage down but, the arm does not have adjustable weights so, I could see this arm getting off balance at some point and possibly damaging records.
The turntable has RCA output and Bluetooth audio. I'll start with the Bluetooth since that seems to be a key advertising feature. I'm not really sure why you would really want to listen to vinyl over Bluetooth, since that seems to defeat the whole purpose of listening to an uncompressed analog signal but, whatever, you do you. The Bluetooth works well. I had no problems connecting my Bluetooth speaker and didn't have any disconnect problems. The turntable does use the most up-to-date Bluetooth technology so the sound actually sounds really good if you have a high quality Bluetooth speaker. I really wish he turntable had speaker wire output but, the RCA works fine if you have amplified speakers or an amplifier to plug the turntable into.
The turntable will play both 33 and 45 RPM records and the auto start stop can be adjusted for both sizes so that you can use that functionality for both size records.
The turntable also has the ability to rip vinyl to mp3 via a USB cable, which is a type B USB, not included. The whole process is confusing and not very intuitive. Not do I really see any reason why you'd ever want to do it. Plus, I doubt very many people have a type B USB cable lying around. The whole feature seems like an afterthought and not well executed. I think you're way better off buying the song online if you really want an mp3.
Overall, it's a decent turntable with some gimmicky features that I don't think really fit with what a turntable is supposed to be. But, it works so I guess that's a plus.

Big Speaker, big sound
on April 6, 2019
Posted by: Clshipp91
from Fort Worth, tx
This thing is huge, both in size and the sound it puts out. The Tufton is no light weight portable speaker, this thing is massive and designed to sit in one spot rather than carry around. And the sound is incredible, the range is great, it's very loud, and doesn't distort at high volumes. I was really impressed with this speaker and think it will be great for listening to music on the back porch.
Design: This thing looks like a little Marshall combo amp, though a bit more vertical than square. It looks great and has great built quality. It feels dense and solid and we'll put together. The strap is a nice fabric, and all the knobs feel sturdy and we'll made. This is definitely a Bluetooth speaker I wouldn't mind leaving out and to be honest I think it can add character to a room, which isn't common among Bluetooth speaker that usually stick out like a sore thumb.
What's in the box: You get the speaker, a US a cable and a UK power cable (which I thought was an odd addition) and that's it, this is a no fuss unboxing.
Battery: this speaker boats 20 hours of playback and I think it gets pretty close to that. Definitely one of the longest lasting speakers I've had.
Weather proofing: since this is designed to be used outdoors, it's worth talking about the weather proofing. The Tufton is IPX2 Rated. Meaning it could withstand splashes and light water. I wouldn't leave it in the rain or dunk it in a pool, it's definitely not rates for that. If you're expecting a water proof speaker, I'd go elsewhere, this is not your best bet.
Sound: The real reason you bought this speaker, the sound. It sounds great! There are two knobs to control the bass and tremble and they do a pretty good job allowing for tailoring of the sound. The speaker gets very loud and is crisp and clear at all volumes. This is the best sounding portable Bluetooth speaker I've had in a long long time.
Connectivity: it connects using Bluetooth 5.0 aptx, the latest and greatest Bluetooth standard. I found the connection ok, I still got some disconnects walking to other parts of my home but, if you're in the same room, it stays connected well. There's also a plug for a 3.5mm Jack if you want to plug an auxiliary cord in and jam. I wish this also had the RCA jacks that are on some other of Marshall's speakers but, I understand this is meant for moving around, and for the most part anything that connects via RCA isn't going to fit in the same category as this speaker.
Overall I think this is a great speaker, which it Should be given the price. If you are looking for a speaker for outdoor parties or something where you won't be lugging this thing huge distances and plan to set it on the ground, it'll do that great. I really think the best use is out by a pool or on the patio in the summer. That's definitely where mine will end up.

Keep your carpets in pristine condition with this HOOVER ONEPWR Spotless GO cordless carpet cleaner. The lightweight design simplifies cleaning on stairs and upholstery, while the 4-inch scrubbing tool removes stubborn stains. This HOOVER ONEPWR Spotless Go cordless carpet cleaner comes with a 2.0 Ah rechargeable battery for prolonged cord-free usage.

I am inquiring about the upholstery/multi purpose tool. Can the clear cover be removed for cleaning? I have an indoor pet, and with other machines, pet hair has gotten caught, when suctioning up messes. What kind of maintenance is there to clean the hose?

It sure can. It pops off pretty easy to wipe down.

Can a 2nd grader play Minecraft and Roblox on this device? And obsessively stream YouTube videos on a rainy day (lol)? Thx in advance.

Yes, should handle all of that.

how do i use a flashdrive

Just plug it into the USB port, then go to "file explorer". In the left hand column of icons you should see your flashdrive. It will be near the "c:" drive on the list. Just drag and drop files to that icon to add things to the flash drive.
