High quality mouse

This could possibly be the best mouse I've ever used.
This mouse has its own internal battery; you do not have to supply any batteries which was a welcome change from most. Supplied in the box is a usb cable to a proprietary connection that serves two purposes:
1. It is the charger for the mouse and the mouse indicates it is charging by the finger wheel lighting up and pulsing during charge. At full charge, it turns off the light.
2. Then when you are finished charging, you plug in the small rectangular connection that has the dongle for the mouse, and you then immediately get to use the mouse as any normal wireless mouse.
I found this mouse to be amazing in smoothness and no lag whatsoever. It connected immediately and the movement that my hand made was instantly showcased on the screen.
The mouse in operation has the finger wheel and Logitech logo lit up with changing RGB illumination. This looks wonderful and when you don't use this, you can turn it off with the switch underneath. To make the unit fit your needs in terms of weight, there is an addon weight that can be added under the mouse in a spinning cover.
This is a logitech product so you know it is a great product - I have found that there is no competition here for Logitech products - I made the mistake and bought another brand and regretted it. Here I am with another Logitech product and it is fantastic.
The mouse is also larger than some mice, but it fit my hand so well that I quickly adapted to it and the buttons are configurable as well for tension/click feel. Very nice.

Compact exterior, manifold features
on July 16, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
I received my Nextbase cam early last week and had to wait to install until I had a day off; I've been using this for three days now and am very impressed with the performance of the cam and its features.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
I had no idea something so small could pack so much quality features inside. The clarity of the video is stunning ranging from 1440p to 1080p (30fps or 60fps). To save space on the microsd card (which is not provided), I went with the 1080p 30 fps setting. I purchased a 64gb card but likely will go to a 128gb one to provide more space. The unit supposedly will start deleting files once the card is filled starting with the oldest first. There is a button that will allow you to protect files. I have not had a need to try this yet.
INSTALLATION TIDBITS
Instructions say to charge 2 hours prior to installing in a car; I found this a great time to bluetooth connect to my phone and to adjust settings there and I found this to overall be a smooth feature; while the unit was connected via usb cable to my laptop, I was able to update the firmware as well with relative ease.
When it came to the installation into my car, I chose the nice magnetic mount with 3m tape (supplied) and then ran the power cable to the 12 volt plug in the car. I used the supplied black plastic trim tool to neatly stow the cable around my headliner and windshield and down my a pillar piece and no cord shows. Neatly stowed the remaining cable with zip ties under the dash for custom look. Actual installation in the car took about 15 minutes after I chose the routing plan for the cable. I was careful to tuck the wire neatly so I was over protective of my new car!
OPERATION
You can set the record period for the cam to automatic on/off which I did and the duration to 3 minutes since I have a somewhat lengthy commute; I was able to successful connect my phone to the cam to ensure that it was recording and should I have desired, I could have downloaded the videos to my phone. I successfully manually deleted files I knew I did not need using my phone as well. Due to my work schedule, I have not had the opportunity to drive and record at night, however. I found the daylight settings as default to be excellent and have not needed to change.
SURPRISE EXTRAS
This is Alexa connected and also has a wonderful SOS feature available if you are in an accident and it can call for help should you need it. I have read this is free for a year and costs extra after that. I have not tried the service. The cam also has a "park" feature that senses if your car has been bumped and will initiate recording so you can catch the culprit. You can also buy at extra cost a rear camera which would help when you pull into a space and the back of your car is exposed to catch someone who bumped into the back of your car or to record traffic behind you (like the road rage incident I had several months ago where someone was nearly wrecking me and followed me home... though I instead went to the police). I wish I had the cam then so I could have got the license plate and make of the car before he drove off as I turned into the police lot.
OVERALL
With your ability to add your speed and date and time stamp onto the video, this will be a great tool to support any incidents - hopefully you drive within the speed limit! For the price of the unit, you cannot go wrong with this - apparently this is a revised version that is smaller than the prior one so it takes up less space. I installed mine in front of the rear view mirror and it is virtually undetectable from inside or outside. I don't need to see the small touchscreen as I can adjust virtually everything from my phone and can play the videos from my phone when I am near the cam. This would make a great addition if you live in an area filled with nuts on wheels so you can protect yourself from their fabricated excuses should there be an accident!

Good, but better?

I had the chance to test this monitor and to compare it to a comparable Alienware monitor (same size and specs).
Honestly, I could not tell the difference. Both were amazing monitors and offered compelling refresh rates. Both monitors had great height adjustability and pivot up and down. The other monitor had a nicer stand that really did look like an "alien". The HP stand is considerably cheaper looking and feeling but it did function as intended.
I would definitely cross shop this with competitors and understand that you can't go wrong with this unit, but all things being equal, I'd buy on the price for a name brand gaming monitor (and not some cheap unit).
I noticed no motion blurring when playing games on this (nor did I on the alien one). I believe also that this size (24.5") is the bare minimum size I'd buy for gaming even if I was pairing up another monitor to go with it - that's just my opinion.
This is a good gaming monitor but it has nothing that stands out above similar gaming monitors spec to spec (unless you count the red LED lighting that cascades across the desktop from the bottom of the monitor).

An affordable alternative to cartridge printing
on June 23, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
I've owned numerous Epson printers in my three decades of personal computing use and am glad that Epson has innovated their ink tank technology into the lower priced consumer field.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Set up was far more lengthy than just popping in assorted cartridges and then printing your first page or image. I carefully followed the instructions and the overall set up took roughly 15 minutes (10 of which was taken up by the printer charging up the system with ink). I was not in a hurry so this did not bother me in the least.
I did top off the ink tanks with the remaining ink in the bottles which added a few more minutes.
INSTALLATION NOTES
Aside from some confusing on what the screen was asking me to do to the printer, I found the installation to be smooth if not fast. The screen on the printer is really small and the clarity of what button to push next was just a bit questionable - a bigger screen would have made the symbols larger to see and easier to understand.
Wifi set up was a breeze until I had to actually enter the password - small screen - allowing so much space between alphanumeric inputs on the screen had me thinking I was adding a space somehow between the inputs. I was not but the screen made it look that way. After understanding the quirk of the system, the printer found and accessed the wireless network of choice without fail. The main computer found the printer and installed the necessary drivers. Additional computers also found the network and installed drivers without issue - all of these were windows machines. An iphone also found the printer without question.
USAGE POINTS
Unlike the pictures on the box that show a very intense color to each tank, that was not the reality. They all looked pretty much the same so visually checking ink levels was not as easy as it seemed. You can still check to see the fill level from outside of the case, but it would have been nice if maybe the tanks could have been backlit with an LED light.
Printing speed was not a problem nor was it remarkable. This is an average consumer printer with a novel resolution of those expensive ink cartridges
COST OF REPLACEMENT INK
According to the printer box information, you SHOULD get around 7,000 black and 5,000 color pages printed out of the ink that installs on day one. Usage will vary and there is also the factor of having to clean print heads should you be used to only printing a few pages per month. Epson says there is 2 years of ink included.
However, I wanted to know how these "bottles" of ink compare to "cartridges" so I shopped the Best Buy site and found that these bottles are EXTREMELY cost effective:
BLACK - 502 - $19.99
CYAN - 502 - $13.99 (also magenta 502 and yellow 502 same price).
This looks to be a very value oriented purchase with minimal cost to refill ink - so if you are going to have to clean print heads anyway, you are wasting less expensive ink than with a cartridge printer.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
This is an extremely nice printer with some up front time investment that produces excellent quality print on even cheap paper and the images printed on coated paper were equal to other Epson printers (which are themselves above average). Considering that you'll save money over the life of the printer, you are doing yourself a favor by investing upfront on the hardware and 2 year ink instead of those cheap and worthless ink jet printers with low entry price but outrageous cartridge refill prices. The more you use this, the more you'll save in the long haul!

Another HP Homerun
on June 19, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
Up until a year ago, I'd no more consider HP for a computer purchase than I would ask for the flu.
Suddenly, however, in the past year, I've had a chance to experience an HP Envy laptop and now this HP Obelisk Gaming Tower and I am so impressed with both.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Out of the box, this unit comes with 16gb of ram and features a 256 gb ssd for the operating system and programs and a 7200 rpm 1 TB drive for data. This was fantastic. The unit came installed with windows 10 version 1809 so the updates were minimal - I moved the system to version 1903 with relative ease. Boot times are blazing fast and the system is fairly quiet under normal operations.
The exterior lights up with the Omen logo in red (though you can change color) and the interior lights up as well (see pictures for clarification).
I ran the 3dMark bench test using the Time Spy test and the unit came out with a score of 6945 which now makes it the most robust computer I have; I played enjoyable sessions with Starcraft 2 both on the system and over the network and was impressed with the speed of the start and the flawless visuals.
This unit can (and will soon) be upgraded to 32 gb of ram - hyperx ddr4 16 gb comes standard.
NOT SO IMPRESSIVE
Keyboard and mouse and real let downs. You'll need to upgrade to gaming backlit keyboard and a quality mouse for sure if you want to get the most out of this. For the price of the unit, I was surprised something better was not included. This item is the ONLY negative that I can see.
TAKEAWAYS
This unit is much faster than my Dell first generation RYZEN 7 gaming tower (though I still like it) - both are equipped with 16 gb of ram and the Dell recently was upgraded to an NVME ssd which is superb (Western Digital) - the 3dMark test on that Dell was much lower than the HP Omen - 4213.
I have neither the time or the interest in building a gaming unit so I wanted something that was off the shelf and ready to go and this HP is superb. It looks wonderful Aside from the plebian keyboard and horrible mouse, this is a very nice machine that is fast and has some upgrade ability to it.

It is a budget gaming laptop afterall.
on June 17, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard

There is much to like about this laptop if you are not buying it to play games. This computer is quick to boot and runs and opens programs with a nice amount of speed.
What isn't so remarkable is the keyboard which is backlit in red and is difficult to read in any amount of light - bright or dark. I was neither bothered nor enthralled with the trackpad or overall keyboard feel. But I have seen better backlit keyboards on other laptops.
Construction of this laptop is done to a budget - which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not remarkable either. There are touches of red on the laptop that makes it look better than it could have been, but this thing is covered in plastic and plastic only.
When it comes to gaming, I ran a 3dMark test on it using Time Spy and benchmarked it to other computers that I have and this is where I was left underwhelmed. I managed to get a score of only 2302 AFTER upgrading to windows 10 build 1903 - the stock version of windows 10 build 1809 produced even lower score of 2265.
In comparison to a very nice (and similarly priced) HP envy with a Ryzen 5 (second generation) with the same amount of ram (8 gigs), I was able to get 3103 out of that machine running the same test.
What would make me think twice about getting this laptop is its small 256 ssd.
If you can get this on sale, it is a nice enough "laptop" that can play games. It is okay. It is not remarkable.

You Get What You Pay For

There are less expensive "robot" vacuums, but from my experience with one of them, the new iRobot vacuum provides a cut above in performance and capabilities.
I had a three year old "robot" vacuum that was still working when I obtained this iRobot as an upgrade. My old unit did not have any wifi capabilities nor did it interact with my smartphone. All of these two features are added with the iRobot version.
SETUP
Instructions are actually not bad even if I misunderstood the setup step and which button(s) to push to connect my unit to my Android smartphone. After several unsuccessful attempts I re-read the instructions and found out that I should ignore the pictures and just follow the words on the instruction. There are two buttons to push (out of the three on the unit) and using those completed the connection with the smartphone. It should be noted that the connection was not complete on the first try as the process hung up in the middle of the connection; another try was fast and flawless.
USE AND PERFORMANCE
First test was to manually launch the iRobot and to see what it would do. The unit is louder than my old unit. The iRobot has a much larger brush underneath though it has only one external side brush whereas my old unit had two brushes that extend for edge cleaning. The cleaning performance was quite remarkable and the iRobot navigated the transition between berber carpet and hard
wood floors with ease. Actual cleaning of both was quite good as the unit picked up debris off the berber carpet after several passes Wood floor performance was exceptional on the first pass.
PET FRIENDLY
My cat would stop and watch the iRobot instead of fleeing like she would do with the older robot vacuum. She would even creep up to it so the unit passed this test.
SCHEDULED TEST
There are so many options here that you'll just need to play with the unit to see what you need, but you can select from a myriad of days of the week and times to run as you need on a scheduled basis. You can even pick ONE DAY and ONE TIME and run the unit and this is what I did. It worked flawlessly and returned to the charging dock.
CHARGE LIFE
I observed about 54 minutes of actual vacuuming time from a complete charge. The unit returned to the docking station without issue.
CLEANING
Debris catcher is quite solid and the button to release the BOTTOM of the catcher is a grey button under the grey debris container handle. Make sure to hold the debris container over a trash can and understand the bottom is what releases debris. You'll also find inside a filter (turn the debris container upside down with debris door open and you'll see the filter. I used a hand held vacuum to remove excess debris and animal hair from that.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
This is a high quality unit that is priced at the top of the robots - again, you can get cheaper but they are cheaper quality. This robot has a long-term quality feel and performance that would make the purchase price more acceptable; I am actually surprised my older and much cheaper robot vacuum lasted three years; this iRobot unit seems like it will easily outlast that older/cheaper unit which makes the purchase price premium more acceptable.

Acceptable product
on May 23, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
Disclosure: I was not aware this product required external power as my prior door bells had a watch like battery in them. Thankfully these were installed over a hole where the prior wiring had been taped up and rolled up inside the door frame.
Installation was acceptable. I would not say it was the easiest thing following the limited directions, but I figured out how to install despite the instructions. I am old school and like more than just pictures to guide me through the installation process.
Performance. As I have no experience with other such systems so I can't make direct comparisons on the pros and cons of this over those, I did find that the night vision worked well and I liked that the door bell was able to work with my phone which is nice since my office is in the back of my home and furthest room away from the door (many times the bell rings and I'm not sure who is there and being able to see them makes up for the fisheye door peephole).
This system is worth the money in just having a piece of mind answering the bell via the phone and to know who is out there.

Upgrade compatible PC systems with the WD_Black SN750 internal SSD. Read speeds of up to 3,470MB/s offer improved load times, while the M.2 form factor means you can directly plug into the motherboard without extra cabling. Compared to typical 2.5-inch SSDs, this WD_Black SSD fits double the storage density on a single-sided drive, making it suitable for portable builds.

Amazing drive
on May 17, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
I have a Dell Inspiron 5675 that shipped with a 1 TB 7200 rpm spinning drive that was working fine albeit seemingly slow in executing simple tasks like boot up and initiating program startups. While this NVME drive indicates it works for laptops, it is also useful in desktops (which is the test subject). This drive is remarkably compact - about the size of two sticks of gum placed side by side on a flat surface.
I tested this NVME drive by cloning the basic drive partitions that are applicable for windows bootup and all dell recovery partitions as well as the "C" drive and then opened the Inspiron and inserted this new cloned drive into the system.
I did not change any settings because I wanted to preserve the default system as it was (it worked fine); I boot to the NVME drive through F12 and selecting the NVME drive manually. I know that it is possible to set this system up to do this automatically, but I am not worried about an extra boot step.
IMPRESSIONS BEFORE AND AFTER CLONE AND INSTALL
Employing CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2, I was able to note the following:
BEFORE UPGRADE
"Read" 170.634 mb/s
"Write" 166.086 mb/s
AFTER UPGRADE
"Read" 1828.1 mb/s
"Write" 1312.0 mb/s
It should be noted that the NVME connection on this computer was a x4 version, not a x8 one. This unit could not reach the maximum speed of the drive for read or right which is double what this unit achieved in this test; this was not due to the drive limitations; it was due to the computer's limiitations.
Boot time with Windows 10 in the original unit was 25 seconds from dell startup window and spinning circle to lock screen BEFORE the upgrade; AFTER UPGRADE the time it took from F12 drive selector screen to lock screen was near instantaneous - less than 3 seconds. The first boot on the new drive was not as fast, but subsequent boots have been blazing fast as indicated above.
Application launches - before upgrade (Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 was glacial - at least 30 seconds; after upgrade less than 10 seconds on initial boot; afterwards it is 5-7 seconds. I chose this program as a test because it was always the slowest opening program on the old drive and frustratingly so. After the upgrade there is precious little lag in application load.
Other programs also load much quicker and noticeably so. I would not hesitate to recommend this drive and was so impressed that I have evaluated other computers that I use to upgrade in the future.

Surprisingly Good Product
on May 8, 2019
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
I'll admit that when I first got these, I was not particularly sure that these were going to be even average as a bluetooth product. These are understated in their design but I couldn't figure out where the sound would be coming out of the frames (still in the dark on this). They connected fast enough to my android phone even straight out of the box though the instructions to do this were minimal at best. I just did what I do with most bluetooth devices and connection was made.
I must preface this point - I hate sticking things in my ear - any product that can keep my ears open and free to hear surrounding sounds (when I'm outdoors and a vehicle could happen upon me cloaked by those ear plugs from the fruit company) I would consider buying.
When I put some tunes on and then put the frames on, I was BLOWN AWAY by the sound. I swear these sounded like they were pumping sound out behind my ears - it was clear and surprisingly good in sound reproduction (especially for the size of the frames themselves). I was able to voice command to google and it responded.
This product is available for both the fruit company devices and for Android.
What was most remarkable is that when I was showing this to other folks, the universal reaction was they wanted a pair for themselves or for Father's Day as a present. Their reactions were like mine -they could not believe the sound.
I highly recommend these if you do anything outside like going to the beach or parks or possibly even bike riding.
I just wish they made these as glasses so I could answer my bluetooth work phone wearing them instead of that bluetooth thing stuck in my ear that barely functions as advertised!

An awesome budget laptop
By laserwizard from Newport News, VA
I had a tight budget with which to purchase a new laptop - I've been searching for months and nearly purchased a Dell (my preferred brand) on their website.
I happened to shop online at Bestbuy and discovered this computer for $329.99 - it hit every need that i had - and the ram was upgradeable for future needs - it was not a Pentium or Celeron processor which was a plus. Has a fifth gen i3 - and it simply exceeds what I expected at this price point.
I am so pleased with this purchase - the screen does lack a bit on contrast, but when hooked to HD monitor, the monitor resolves that. It streams Hulu and Netflix really well.
For the price, this unit is hard to beat.

Follow up remarks after a week or so of usage
July 12, 2015
Had purchased a laptop for my niece for Christmas, upgraded her Dell from 4 to 8 gb of ram - had her spare 4 gb ram and replaced the 2gb one in this laptop - performance upgrade was noticeable making laptop now an 8 gb unit.
I was curious about maxing out ram to the 12 gb limit noted and secured an 8 gb stick for $45 elsewhere and installed yesterday. Not as much difference in performance as going from 6 to 8 gb, but it is nice to have the ram at a great price - now unit still hasn't cost me $400 in total costs.
This is a great computer for the price - 5th gen i3 makes a big difference over the i3's from the past that I've used. The more I use this the more impressed I am with it. At this price it even outperforms some computers the company I work for has purchased at double the price.
I would definitely buy this again and another made by Asus.

First, installation is not intuitive - like some new products, there are NO INSTRUCTIONS - it has something that must be a picture based set of instructions, but it does not give you any clue what to do beyond 1 and 2. It does not tell you what to do next. You will have to go to bluetooth on your device and activate the pairing from a listing. Not sure why this was not mentioned at all. Volume controls are not described at all - they are the - and + signs on the body (in yellow).
Second, sound is okay - that is why I note it is limited. Better than nothing but certainly not great sounding.
Third, no instructions on charging this - there is a piece of ill fitting rubberized plastic at the base that hides the micro usb charging port. You'd think at least it would be labeled or ingrained with "usb".
I guess if you need a portable speaker for some device that is water resistant, this is okay. I wonder why you'd need one since I'd never put anything electrical near water.
I'm over 50 and I see no use for this other than to leave it in a place where I don't have speakers and to use it on a limited basis. Instructions are awful to non-existant and those debits are what bring down this score.
Too cute for its own good.

Since the initial write-up, I have found that this device works fine around the house if I needed to listen to iHeart radio from my tablet. The sound is acceptable and its portability is good though the small yellow cord really is of no use.

The advertisement and stated processor says its a 9th gen i7-9700 however if you click on the pdf information for this computer it states that it is an 8th Gen i7-8700? Also indicates that graphics are onboard and not the GPU?

I have one of these new ones and it is definitely a i7-9700.

Make your home an internet haven with this versatile Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system. Three identical tri-band dual-stream AC2200 routers, each equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, deliver lightning-fast internet. Equipped with Bluetooth 4.0/LE, this Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system is simple to set up and pairs easily with computers, tablets and smart devices.

Do you have to have internet connection to make it work

The point of this is to distribute wireless internet connectivity around the house. If all you want to do is to network computers, there are far better options. And I didn't find this system to be very good at doing what it was designed to do. Buy something else for less money.

Surf the Web and stay in touch with this Asus X555LA-SI30504I 15.6" laptop, which features high-speed wireless networking and a Gigabit Ethernet LAN for easy access to the Internet. Bluetooth technology pairs easily with other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

IS THIS LAPTOP AVAILABLE WITH WINDOWS 7

WINDOWS 7 PRO.OR HOME PREMIUM
No - but when you first use it - go to desktop live tile, use Internet Explorer and download "classic shell" - install the free app - it restores start menu and makes the computer look like Windows 7 and you still have the live tiles to use later as you get used to it.

I've found that on every Win8.1 machine I've had, it far exceeds the speed of Win7. In fact, after using 8.1, 7 seems like Vista.

Sennheiser PX100

could u tell me where is produced?
is it from China?
thanks a lot.
Made in China and very cheap product - almost all plastic except for metal band inside the frame. Based on reviews I was expecting superb quality - well, this is budget cheap in construction.

Have an iPhone 3G would like to use the same headphone with my windows 7 computer...I travel so the folding is a great feature...
Works with my windows 8.1 laptop just fine. Just beware that the cord is shortish.
