Simple and Fast Wi-Fi
on December 15, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
As a systems engineer who works from home now and has dozens of iot devices around the house, good Wi-Fi is important to me. Also having good coverage in all areas around the house so the connection is the same throughout is important. Before, I had just a single wi-fi router that was pretty powerful, but never was able to get Wi-Fi in the garage. With this mesh system, now I am able to get Wi-Fi in the whole house AND the garage! And the speeds in the garage, while not amazing, are still very tolerable at 200mb/s down.
Here are the PROS and CONS of this mesh system.
PROS
- Fast speeds throughout the house. I am able to get on newer devices that support 5ghz and WiFi6, pretty much the same speed I get over ethernet. You can't beat that.
- Easy setup, like foolproof. My parents could set this up, that is how easy it is. You just unbox it, plug it in, use the app and bam, you have internet! Definitely the easiest set up I have encountered.
- Good app. This is very important because the app is pretty much the main way to administer the router. There is a web GUI but it is meh. The app is better and does everything you need it to do. It is fairly intuitive, has all the settings you would need for a mesh system.
- Easy scalability. You just plug in one of the mesh routers anywhere, and it automagically connects. NEAT! No fuss.
- Nice design, it is aesthetically pleasing, much better than my old router that looked like a cyber-spider with 8 antennas.
CONS
- Only 2 ethernet ports per router... I really wish it had at least 3, if not 4. Or at least 4 on the "mothership" as I have it in my office and require extra ethernet connections. Yeah I can use a switch, but that just adds more clutter.
- No USB ports on them either.
- The app is a LITTLE confusing when you are trying to manage your deco's themselves.
- Could use a better web interface for old school engineers that like using a web gui.
- Don't care for the homecare and antivirus, I guess it is cool for the novice, but not for someone like me.
The deco system here from TP-Link is a solid WiFi 6 mesh system that is fool proof to use and set up and has enough features to keep the techie like me happy.

Nice Record Player, but Bluetooth is Lackluster
on November 25, 2021
Posted by: BPTech

It is a turntable, there is nothing more to it than the bluetooth features it has. I have owned a number of record players and this one provides a pretty great sound on all my records. Just the built in speakers are good enough to be honest, I do not see a need to connect this to an external speaker, but alas, it is one! Which would be great if the speakers were lackluster but they are not.
The bluetooth to external speaker works pretty well, was easy to set up following the instructions. The only bad thing is you get some static and hiss when doing it and honestly, the quality is worse than just blasting it through the onboard speakers.
But this is a small, compact, nice record player with great sound quality. I can see why it can be used as a bluetooth speaker itself because of how well these speakers are tuned on this turntable.

Not the best ANC
on November 25, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
So, I had some issues with my headset that were only resolved after a firmware update luckily, so thank goodness for that. The issues were with static coming from the left ear when trying to answer a call.
Anyways, overall these ear buds I would give 3.5 stars. The bottom line is for the price, the ANC is bad, the call quality is meh, sound is pretty good, and they do stay in your ear during work outs.
PRO:
- Good battery life
- Snug fit in the ear so you do not have to constantly adjust it while working out (running, weights, etc.)
- Comfortable for long term wear in the gym.
- App is nifty with EQ you can adjust if you want
- Sound quality is pretty good, I would say 7.5/10 could use more bass.
CONS
- Call quality is hit or miss. The first call I ever answered on these my phone bugged out and so did the headphones. It kept switching between my phone and the headset and once it established the headset as the device to use, the person on the other end could not hear or understand me and I could not with them. I tried many other phone calls and it was hit or miss with people not being able to hear me.
- Buggy before firmware update, this device is quirky with disconnects that seem to have been alieved by firmware possibly.
- Bad ANC. Like I don't even know if the passthrough feature can even be considered ANC because you hear EVERYTHING. Even on total silence mode, I can still hear quite a bit around me, way more than other ANC earbuds I have owned. You can customize it in the app too, but even on the most noise controlled setting, it is lackluster at best, kind of annoying for an active wear earbud because gyms are quite noisy.
- Mono mode is very buggy and needs to be worked on.

The Best Massage Gun I've Owned
on November 5, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
Let me start by saying this is more of a 4.5/5 star review, but I leaned more towards just giving it 5 instead of 4 stars. All in all, the Hyperice Hypervolt Pro 2 is an excellent massage gun. I've owned and used other brands, but this one definitely takes the cake. Here are the pros and cons of the device.
PROS
- Powerful 90w motor that provides some excellent percussion therapy. Even on level 1 intensity this thing rocks your body (in a good way!). I find this level and level 2 a great way to loosen the muscles up before a workout (or after). Anything above level 2 I would use for therapy related treatment, like a very sore muscle, a muscle knot, trouble area etc. Level 5 will shake your body to it's core (again in a good way).
- Great battery life. I can get over an hour of usage on this thing after a full charge which is more than other guns I've used. Takes about 2-3 hours I would say for a full charge.
- The app! This actually is a great app, the Hyperice app. It connects via Bluetooth to this device and has guided massages that you can do in the app. It is as simple as choosing which body part you want to massage on the app, and the app provides you different guided routines to work out that area INCLUDING full area/zone treatments and full body (like sleep routines). All you have to do is hold the gun and the app syncs to your device and does the rest for you. Very nice. It is guided as well so it tells you where to position it, which attachment to use etc.
- Portability: This thing is very portable, I put it in my gym bag, my work bag, whatever bag, it fits. Also the battery comes off very easily so you can really make it fit wherever you want it to go.
- Attachments: All the attachments are great, and it will tell you which each attachment does. You get 5 with this model which is very nice, they all serve their purpose and I like that you have the versatility of them.
CONS
- I am not sure if I like the dial feature. It works well, but it is kind of a pain when you are massaging yourself and need to adjust the speed. Depending on what you are doing, you have to cross your hands over eachother to adjust the dial or stop what you're doing (depending). I would've preferred something more... ergonomic?
- I really wish there was a way to turn the battery light off on the device. It is nifty to tell you how your battery life is, but if you're in bed at nighttime and don't want the light on, you kind of have to suffer with this bright green light in your eyes. Maybe a future update in the app will have this feature? Would be nice.
- Little hard to use on the mid back. Just the shape of this device and the handle makes it a little harder to use in this area, but not terrible.
All in all, this thing rocks. My workouts are better because of this device. I am able to warm up faster, cool down faster, recover faster, and even use it in-between weight sets to relax the muscles. It helps my sore feet, my sore hands, my bad back, my tight neck, you name it!

Looks cool, but too many issues
on November 1, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I had high hopes for this product based on what it says it can do. However, upon receiving it, I was not really that impressed. Setup was fine, the scanning of the lights through their app didn't work for me, that's fine. Once I had them all set up how I wanted them behind my bed, I added them to Alexa, however, this did not work at all. I added and removed the device multiple times and it would not take Alexa commands. Looking at reviews of the Twinkly skill, developers say this is a known bug and should be fixed in "months". Seriously? You area going to charge $100 for a 5 foot LED light strip and not fix one of the core competencies of it? The instruction manual is very hard to read and poorly laid out. The app for the device is very confusing and has just a very late 90s aesthetic to it. It is not very intuitive at all. You can customize the lights all you want, but it is not very easy to do so in my experience and a cumbersome process that is not worth it. Also, considering you only get 5.5 feet of LED for the price is ridiculous.
The only saving grace about these lights is how nice they look. They truly are unique in that sense with all the different effects and what not, but it's not enough to justify the price point and all the issues with the product.

Nice Light with Terrible Software
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I had high hopes for this light bulb coming from a clean freak! But the initial set up and compatibility with Alexa just completely ruined this bulb for me. I have NEVER had such an issue setting up a Wi-Fi lightbulb in my life. I am a Systems Engineer, so I would say I am "tech savy". With that, considering it took 45 minutes to set up this one lightbulb is absolutely ridiculous. When you set it up via the app, it basically forces you to use Apple HomeKit if on an iPhone which is incredibly annoying since I do not use that ecosystem. So the lightbulb would constantly fail on this step. Then I reinstalled the "Home" app from Apple, and it complained now that I'm on a 5GHZ network, no worries, I will switch to 2.4GHZ. I do that, then it finds the bulb, still asks me to scan the homekit QR code, then just spins for 15 minutes.... nothing. So I try again, then it asks me to connect to the device in the Wi-Fi settings, I do, then spins for 10 minutes, nothing. So I give up walk away, try again, and now it works. Absolutely ridiculous.
So then I try to set it up with Alexa, it connects, but then Alexa says the device is always offline, even after removing it and adding it again. I have never had this issue with any other brand of Wi-Fi lightbulbs. It is 2021, it should NOT be this hard. Especially for a 70 dollar lightbulb, terrible.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the bulb itself is very nice. It goes up to 9k Lumens, has the cleaning mode which is very nice to sanitize the room. It also has a lot of RGB options as well and "moods" which is cool. If only the software was better and compatibility with Alexa, this would easily be 4-5 stars.

Perhaps the best Vacuum I've Owned
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I have been using Shark vacuum's for years, and every iteration of their product gets better and better. Now here we are with the shark cordless vertex pro, and I can not be more impressed. The vacuum is light, easy to navigate around the house, easy to take apart for different cleaning options, and CORDLESS!!! Let's go through the PROs and CONs of this vacuum, spoiler, not many cons.
PROs:
- It is CORDLESS!! I can't stress enough how great this is for a vacuum with this power to be cordless. The battery life is about 45 minutes - 1 hour on a full charge which is plenty of time to clean my entire condo and still have about 30-40% battery at the end of it. This also includes me using the dusting attachment and upholstery attachment on various items around the house. The battery takes a couple hours to fully charge and comes with a very nice charging dock with suction cups so it doesn't slide around when charging.
- LCD panel: This thing is great. It is placed in the absolute perfect position to easily switch the vacuum on and off, to change cleaning modes from hard wood to carpet, and to change the suction power. I love how all these functions are in a very easy to touch location on the main handle and how it shows you the battery life yet.
- Versatility: This vacuum can do it all. It is a powerful duster, it is a vacuum for your carpets and hard wood floor, it's an upholstery vacuum for your couch or car (you can easily use this to clean your car by the way with the liftaway function). And for those really hard to reach places like under the bed, the dust canister comes off so you can use the stick with roller to get under those tight spaces. This thing truly can clean your entire house (even your car!) with ease all on one charge.
- Cleaning the vaccuum: This is a breeze now. With the new fins that the vacuum has, you don't have to fuss with taking out the roller and cutting all the gross hair with a knife and pulling it for an eternity hoping it will all come out. Now, with the newly designed rubber fins, hair and debris just rolls off and goes into the canister as it should. No more pulling gross old hair out of the bottom of the rollers. Also the dust canister is easy to remove and dispose of your nasty dust.
-Power and noise: This thing is actually very quiet, I was very impressed how quiet this vacuum is, even on full boost mode. But just because it is quiet, doesn't mean its not powerful. On full boost mode, this thing will remove tough messes from a carpet or hard wood floor, but I mainly run the vacuum on the second level (out of 3) and never run into issues with suction or lack of power.
CONS:
- Wish the vacuum had an onboard slot for at least one of the cleaning tools like the duster or crevice tool. Other models had this, wish it was still there.
- Nothing else I can think of!
All in all, this is a superb vacuum, and Shark has always been a great brand in this space and last me many years, and I look forward to using this vacuum for all my cleaning in the house now and retiring my old Shark away to be used for the garage.

Very Solid Noise Cancelling Earbuds
on October 13, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I am an audophile and critique headphones quite harshly. I was really torn between 4/5 stars on these for nit picky reasons, but considering one of the issues can be resolved with firmware, I decided on 4.5/5 and gave this product the benefit of the doubt because of the price point. Let's go through the good and bad of these earbuds.
PROS:
- Incredible sound. The fact that these little earbuds have larger drivers than most in it's price range really helps deliver a larger sound and a much nicer bass response. For earbuds, these things have quite the bass response and a very well rounded mid and high frequency response. The app that comes with these headphones also lets you EQ the hardware which is very nice. Especially after a nice burn in period, these things sound great.
- Comfort: these are very comfortable to wear, more comfortable than most of my other earbuds. They come with multiple foam tips so you can determine what is best for your ears.
- Battery life is very good on these. I have not had any issues with the claim of 35 hours on a full charge with the case.
- Phone calling on this device works very well, even when outside. I have had other issues with earbuds picking up too much ambient noise and the caller not being able to hear me at all. But I have not had that issue with these headphones.
- Noise cancelling: The noise cancelling on these earbuds is very good. With multiple modes as well, and being able to control it via the app, they are very versatile. Would they be good on a plane? Probably, but not as good as over the head, but definitely close. I use these at the gym and have noise canceling on and I can not hear the crap music they blast at the gym or anyone around me, so very nice!
CONS
- There is an issue I have with these headphones briefly losing connectivity for 2-4 seconds. It is rare-ish, but still happens and is annoying. I am really really hoping that a firmware update will fix this issue, otherwise.... not good.
- I have an issue with the headphones staying very snug in the ear while working out. I do have to periodically readjust the earbud in my ear and sometimes accidentally pause the music trying to do so, but not too often, but still a nuisance.
- A tiny off switch on an earbud would be nice instead of having to fuss with the touch bar controls trying to do so.
All in all, these are superb noise cancelling earbuds that will suit any environment you put them in and offer superb quality of sound.

A Cool and Supportive Pillow
on October 8, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I suffer from terrible neck pain that frequently causes me headaches weekly. I also run very hot at night and always have a fan on and window open. I have tried many pillows over the years from memory foam, down alternative, D-Core pillows from the chiropractor, and none ever seemed to fit the bill. Then comes this pillow. The first few nights sleeping on it, I woke up the most energized I have ever been! I had such a good nights sleep, and no neck pain. Still a couple weeks later, no neck pain after sleeping on this pillow.
The pillow has two sides, a firmer side, and a softer side. I use the softer side mostly, but if I feel off at all, I use the firm side. This is a really nice bonus so you can turn it over to the side that suits you most that night. Also, this thing truly does stay cool. Obviously with a pillow case you don't get that effect as much, but without it, wow, its ice cold. Also appreciate that the cover comes off for easy washing.
I hope this thing lasts for over a year! If so, I will definitely be buying more when they start to lose their shape.

Decent Headphones for the Price
on September 24, 2021
Posted by: BPTech
from Ventura, CA
I would like to start off by mentioning I am an audophile so I may be a little more harsh in my review. With that, for the average Joe/Jill, these headphones will most likely fit the bill for you if you are looking for something to wear on a walk, while cleaning around the house etc. But if you are picky like me, then you will most likely pass on these. Here are the pro's and cons.
PROS:
- Nice carrying case and long battery life off one charge.
- Memory foam option for the earbud tips is nice, they were my favorite out of the selections available that came with the product.
- Bluetooth 5.0 is always a plus
- Pretty decent mids and highs.
CONS
- Terrible using it outside for phone conversations. I was on a phone call with these in, and no one could hear me, they said I was quiet, they could hear everything outside, do not recommend for this.
- Lack of bass. Yeah they are earbuds but I have other earbuds with much more oopmh than these. These thing barely output bass.
- Sound quality is average at best. It is a little bit small of a sound coming out of these, would be nice to have bigger drivers.
- They don't stay in my ear very well. I am constantly having to adjust these and when I do, it pauses my music or activates some feature I did not want.
- Touch bar is finnicky. Just a mere accidental touch does something to your music.

Can the OS windows 8 be uninstalled and replaced with windows 7?

I really would like to buy the surface pro 3. I do t like the windows 8 OS, before I buy the product I want to make sure I can uninstall the 8 and replaced it with the 7.
No it isn't possible because of drivers and its a special image of Windows 8.1 the surface uses. Why would you want to put an OS like Windows 7 on a tablet? 8.1 was built for something like this. I was like you once all against 7, but trust me, this device was optimized and built for windows 8.1 and you won't be disappointed.
