Well made conference call speakerphone

So in terms of what it was designed for, this is a pretty sweet product. Connects via Bluetooth in seconds. It has very clear audio to hear the other party; 6 mics all around the base of this speaker, 1 in each corner, 1 in the middle, and 1 on the opposite side of the last mic. It’s perfect for a room with several people as it picks up audio from all sides exceptionally well. An added touch is the ring light on the top as the ring shifts for various operations from raising/lowering volume and a mic picking up audio. It also shifts to red (from blue) when placed on mute which is a good visible indicator. It does exceptionally well with a single charge, assuming you’re not charging other devices off it, I’ve got about 16hrs and still has some juice to go.
As an added bonus it doubles as a speaker for music as well as a portable charger, although, admittedly it lacks much bass. In comparison, any of the popular smart hockey puck sized speakers have a better output in this area (and to my standards, entry model smart speakers still lack quality). As a portable charger, you should expect to get roughly 1.5 charges for any flagship phone. Don’t expect the same for a phablet or tablet.
So does it have any flaws/nitpicks/problems?
My only real complaint is that it should of had some type of feedback when pressing down the capacitive sensing touch buttons on the top besides the color shift. A light beep or vibration would of been perfect.
My second, 6700 mAH is a bit small. Yet there is a hefty weight to the speaker.
All-in-all, it’s a very nice speakerphone and for my limited uses it hits 5 stars. The included carrying case is a nice added bonus. Just do yourself a favor and don’t buy this with the intention of only playing music.

It works at least—but there’s a few caveats
on September 26, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Overall—It really works, much to my skepticism about it. There are however, a few drawbacks. The biggest being range, in my experience 1 room over and that was all it took. The next, possibly a design issue, the box itself gets very hot. I mean for something that operates more or less like a router, why does it get so hot? On idle it gets fairly warm. With use it easily reached 95+ degrees. In my use case, only the receiver gets hot, not so much the transmitter. If it weren’t made of plastic you’d easily burn yourself handling it after use. I personally don’t believe this is good for its longevity. Of course, this is assuming that my unit isn’t defective and your typical unit doesn’t experience this. Due note, at the time of writing i wasn’t able to locate my infrared thermometer and I used a different thermometer that is most certainly not meant to be used in this way. The actual temperature is certainly higher.
On the brighter side of things, this thing is definitely useful. Moving around from 1 room to the next with a connected device is great. In my case pairing a game console to it makes moving from living room to bedroom or den to let kids watch tv is great.
Performance—As mentioned above, in my use case, 1 room distance was all that was needed to have issues. To better explain, that distance is about 10ft with a sliding glass door between the rooms. The transmitter sitting on top of an entertainment center in an open living room and receiver on a shelf in the other room. As for obstacles, there’s the glass, a tv panel, and the shelf’s particle wood framing.
Usability—So how well does it transmit picture quality? Packaging and product description says 1080p but in my use case the image quality is slightly degraded. As I’ve stated in other reviews, my house possibly has a lot of interference from other wireless devices such as mesh WiFi routers, multiple smart hubs, subnet WiFi networks, a multitude of zigbee/z-wave smart devices, and many smartphones possibly creating more noise from Bluetooth and other radio signals. That said the end result is closer to a washed out 720p image.
If you game, a heavily driven story based game is acceptable, much like platformers and indie games. Movies/streaming is also an acceptable quality unless your needs require that the result be cinema quality. Where I do have an issue is during fps multiplayer matches such as call of duty, fortnite, etc. Besides image quality, there is a slight bit of latency that is very noticeable.
NOTE: the images included are of little help as the banding is created from the screen. Screen capture images will be updated in comments.
Other thoughts—An integrated power button would of been great to have. It would of made coping with the heat issue much better. Having to unplug it every time from its jack makes it possible to have the cord drop into the narrow spacing behind our entertainment centers.
Conclusion—at this price point it is a bit hard to swallow considering the short distance a real world setting provided. A 2 story home would probably not be a very good fit unless it is used on the same floor.

A great wireless headset on a budget
on September 20, 2020

Overall—The turtle beach stealth 600 gen 2 is an excellent budget headset. With it you get quality sound ranging from highs to lows and everything in between. It’s a simple to use headset with all the bells and whistles. From long battery life, immersive audio, a comfortable headset, and seemingly a sturdy quality headset that should last the test of time. For clarification, I say seemingly as I’m not entirely sure how well the mic will hold up. The mic automatically turns on as you flip it out, then turns off when flipped up. But besides that, setup was a breeze, pairing is exactly the same as pairing an Xbox remote. Press the pair button on the remote, press it on the console and viola—paired. If there’s anything to nitpick about it is the documentation. There’s not much in it, a couple diagrams showing how to pair, diagrams showing it’s contents, and an overall layout of the buttons. No real explanation on the “mode” button besides “audio presets”. With that, I will say the 4th preset didn’t seem to have much effect in 2 games I really tried testing in, ESO & COD Warzone.
Pros—
Ease of use.
Long battery life.
Comfortable.
Quality audio.
Clear mic.
Cons—
Mechanism/construction around mic.
A little tight for anyone with a larger head.
Other thoughts—Because the mic is fixed to the headset, adjusting the mic closer or further away from your mouth is not possible.

Simply a great experience using an air fryer.
on September 16, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Overview—for clarification, I’ve never owned an air fryer before. It’s one of those things I’ve considered but when I think about the dishes to be made with it, I’d draw a blank. It didn’t help that the air fryer doesn’t include any sample recipes with the appliance. That said, the transition has been a simple and pleasant experience. The 4.5qt Cheffman has ample room for just about anything in it. Takes up about the same or slightly less countertop real estate as my conventional oven (although it’s height is a bit higher). Very simple to use and understand interface buttons (Time, temp, +, -, start). No presets. An elegant finish (black/stainless) for most kitchen color schemes. Easy to clean non-stick tray and basket. All-in-all, a very easy fryer to use and operate.
If there’s one however, thing I’d say needs a little improving is the documentation. It’s “get you started” section just tells you “you can cook just about anything in an air fryer between 300-400 degrees”. That didn’t really help me figure anything out. Nor the contradictory information I’d find between the documentation and information I’d find from a online recipes on making a certain dish. Finding recipes on the chefman website took a bit of time and ultimately saw the “access code” road block. I got lazy to look for this code in the packaging at the time of writing. You should be able to just enter your model number or select from the air fryers they offer. This is poor design.
Pros—
Ease of use.
Elegant design.
Even cooking.
Tactile buttons.
Large basket.
Easy to clean non-stick surface.
Cons—
Very basic, no presets.
Not much documentation.
No sample recipes to get started.
Chefman website could be more user friendly with recipes.

Amazing coffee machine—but expensive cups.
on September 7, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Full disclosure—I’ve never owned any other Nespresso machines so my main knowledge for comparison is the popular K branded machines in terms of premium coffee. In addition, traditional coffee makers and instant coffees. That said, I am an aficionado of coffee but wouldn’t consider myself a connoisseur of all things coffee.
Overall—The Nespresso Vertuo Next is a sure-fire way to get gourmet coffee from a convenient machine. It preps a decent sized mug within several minutes (approx 3) and whisks milk in approx 1 minute to a foamy consistency. The initial setup is more or less simple with the biggest hurdle being app connection (more on that below). Clean up is simple enough but based on other mentions descaling can be an issue, I’ve yet crossed that road to further comment after a week of use.
Design—The overall design is simplistic and to the point.
One of the biggest problems I see, and even through daily cleanings, the ring around the head (the component that pierces each cup and pushes water into your mug) quickly becomes dirty of stains and leftover coffee. Even with daily cleanings by using the self-clean feature and wiping down the upper section of the head the result is the same. From my experience, used coffee tends to mold even when you run hot water through it. So if that coffee at any time gets stuck in a further, unreachable crevice, your next cup may include mold.
For additional context, I’ve included an image of a used coffee pod. Water is injected through the center hole and flushes out through the pierced ring around it. It’s then cycled through the head and siphoned into an outlet further up above the visible surface of the head unit to be dispensed into your cup.
It is this area above that could possibly hold traces of coffee as I’ve found traces around the piercing ring.
By comparison with the other aforementioned “premium coffee brewer”. The Nespresso seems to have a healthier design as the water is never forced through the plastic of the pod like the other unit. That process has been singled out as a method that adds contaminants from the plastic into your coffee.
Additionally, from a personal level, my next biggest gripe is the inclusion of the ejection bin/system. From an observational standpoint, those extra 3 inches the bin takes up doesn’t serve any other purpose, at least not from an engineering standpoint. There doesn’t appear to be any present systematic components embedded in the machine in those extra 3 inches. Both the heating unit and pump seem to reside around the head. Do note, I did not break the unit down to determine these components. It’s an observational estimation based on the heat build-up and whining sound the machine creates during warmup/closure of the lid.
With everything said, I am not docking any stars for a “personal gripe”.
Performance—As mentioned above, crafting a cup of coffee is relatively quick, 5 min tops. The actual coffee that comes out, in terms of taste, is extremely well. The only issue to mention in this area is the pairing method with the app. While unboxing, I tried to pair with the app and the method outlined in the manual didn’t work for me. But after several unsuccessful pairing attempts, the machine finally paired with the app.
Other thoughts—Nestle is seemingly committed to a green, sustainable business model. From responsible sourcing of coffee to Its pods disposal/recycling program. The product itself is said to be manufactured using a high percentage of recycled materials. The actual packaging, which states is 95% recycled material, is fairly flimsy and tells is actually made from those recyclables. Those are good marks in my opinion but needs a little more transparency in terms of its pod's recycling. Currently, there isn’t any such information available regarding how much actually gets recycled.
On another note, pods, regardless of retailer run roughly $1.00ea. This is somewhat pricey considering traditional brewer grounds run several cents per cup.
Conclusion—With everything mentioned, the machine works flawlessly. If however, you reside in an area with hard water your experience may differ as descaling, from a brief search, can result after as little as 3 cups brewed. In all situations, it is in your best interest to follow the machine's instructions and only use filtered clean, cool water. Tap and hot water may contain small traces of minerals and other contaminants which may cause your machine to need more frequent cleanings. The issues with machine to app connectivity could be a minor caveat, especially for those that purchase products with the expectation that it works out of the box.

Very nice counter tech—with a minor flaw.
on August 10, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Overall—I’ve been a skeptic of the fancy electric toothbrushes for a very long time. There was a short period of time when I did want one but never did take that plunge. I just couldn’t justify the steep cost for them. The only type I did buy into was the spinning head toothbrushes that were relatively cheap compared to their premium counterparts.
Going from an ordinary ($2-$3) brush to a sophisticated premium brush is a noticeable experience, however.
The iO series 9 is a dentist in your pocket. It coaches you on the proper approach to brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash. It comes with a premium travel charge case, 4 brush heads, brush handle w/ display, and magnetic charging puck. Sends you reminders for brush head changes and tracks your historical hygiene. Tracks gum bleeding and records the data into the iOS health app. Includes a type of reordering system within the app that integrates with the Dash button service. However, with everything mentioned, it still has its downsides.
Design—The overall presentation of this product most certainly makes this a worthy counter accessory. In my use case, it rests on the counter for a few hours after use until the handle completely air dries. What's left is the round puck like charging base.
The physical display is very bright and colorful, as such that I believe you should clearly see it outside under sunlight. Features 7 different modes of operation from Whitening, Daily Clean, Sensitive, Sensitive+, Gum Care, Intense, and Tongue Clean. Between the brush head and collar of the handle is an LED that indicates proper or improper brushing technique. The same ring doubles as a charging indicator (which is actually a beautiful touch at night) that pulses white at roughly 5-second intervals. The collar on the handle is composed of a sturdy plastic sleeve containing a metal magnetic cylinder. When connected and powered, it pushes in and out of the shaft magnetizing the brush heads base and causing the brush head to move at an approx 20° angle.
Performance—Cleaning is superb! On day one, I wasn't hitting all quadrants with the precision or pressure accuracy as I do now. It would go from green to white, and red as I wasn't hitting everything per the Oral-B app. The "dentist in your pocket" improved that greatly. The pressure guidance sensor in this is phenomenal. But, while I still don't believe it's 100% accurate, as I am certain that I'm hitting the inner or outer areas of my teeth, the app just doesn't register it.
Even with the negative mark here, the level of clean you achieve with this is far superior from an ordinary brush. For better context, and as it is my own interpretation, as Oral-B doesn't showcase this on the product detail page. I get a more thorough foaming effect when using this brush with less paste over an ordinary brush. In addition, it causes more of a drooling effect during the brushing which I believe is caused by the vibrating effect from the brush. I know it isn't the paste as I use the same brand/type as I did before this brush. FULL DISCLOSURE, I am not, nor have I ever been a dentist, oral hygienist, or any medical care professional. Nor have I studied such a field at a higher education institute. I do plan on bringing this up to my dental professional on my next visit. For now, all I have are web sources that point to a positive.
With all that said, this is a much messier brushing method. After each brushing, I always have a few stains on either the mirror or cell phone. Not to mention, unless you have your smartphone with you, the app won't register your brush session. I don't quite understand why cant the handle cache that information for the next connection with your smartphone. This would make it a 5-star review from me.
Conclusion—With the exception of the connection issue and messy experience, this is a phenomenal brush that delivers an exceptional experience and superior clean—all packed into a beautiful package that's worth considering.

Mixed feelings about this one—but works as a vac
on August 1, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Overall—Where to start with this one? For starters, to clarify any possible misconceptions from my headline the vac does certainly work as it should. But somewhere along the way the concept of design and execution went astray.
Design—Overall, the design feels well rounded out. Replacing filters is very simple—a quick button or slider and out into the dust bin. But, there are other areas where things don't feel so well thought out. For one, using the included attachments is problematic, for lack of a better word.
The included upholstery brush attachment, although theoretically works, the attached bristles are simply glued on. Using it as anything other than its intended purpose would be unrealistic. To expand upon this, the first day received I tested it by vacuuming the seats and floor mats of my car. Brushing them with this tool lead to the adhesive beginning to peel. I stopped using it in this manner as I’d have no tool to test with other surfaces for the remaining of my time with the product. The second attachment, the crevice/fine tip, works perfectly as a fine tip on edges or the floor. However, switching to the brush crevice tool is a different story. The bristles easily break off and if you want to spare them from doing so hitting the surface from an angle works a bit. The problem with that stems from a decent loss of suction. I suppose a 2 pass method would solve this however, this is most certainly a purchase to simplify our lives and adding this burden makes no difference than carrying around a heavy or corded vac. Once realizing the shortcomings of the attachments I proceeded with using the tip of the vacuum on the floor, seats, and all other surfaces of the car. This worked extremely well, much better than the included attachments.
After encountering the issues with the attachments a quick search online revealed that no retailer offers any attachments for this. That’s a problem, the attachments are a special polygonal shape—not round like your typical vacuum attachment. The odds of finding an attachment from another vac, either from Hoover or a different brand, that fits is slim to none at all.
Performance—The actual suction force is impressive. I’d like to compare it with a full upright vac but that wouldn’t be a fair comparison. Prior to ownership of the handheld ONEPWR dust chaser I’ve only owned one portable vac that I don’t even recall the brand of since it has been so long since. Lets just say it left a bad impression of handhelds for me. With that said, I do not believe I am a stranger to vacuums as my primary equipment is a name brand upright dust beast and a well known reputable robovac that handles most tasks on a schedule.
The dust chaser, however, does handle all sorts of filth from dust, dirt, and hair (pet or human).
Specs state 30 minute runtime but I seem to get slightly more than that—I assume that’s a good thing unless I’m doing something incorrectly lol.
Past the good, I only encountered 1 issue in this area. Either the filters don’t work as intended or the blower inside is more powerful than the filters are rated for. In my tests, I noticed that once I used it on a surface with lots of dust (door mats, wheel well carpeting, etc) I began getting more intermittent shutdowns with the blinking light. Manual and stickers on the handle point to airway clogs in the vac. This, however, doesn’t go away so quickly as I’ve rinsed the filter and cleaned out the pathway for the vac.
Conclusion—Although, I do believe this to be a good handheld vac for powerful suction, and overall good performance. There are still the few issues from cheap attachments and lack of additional availability. But most troubling, the intermittent shut-offs which I cannot really assess from the short time span of ownership. It’s entirely possible that the unit I received is from a bad batch and the average unit suffers from no issues. I’d really like to believe that as it works exceptionally well—not to mention the high stars at Hoover. But as it stands I cannot fully endorse the product and have to give a mid cautionary rating.

Beautiful tablet/PC—at 1lb 11.7oz w/ type cover
on July 8, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Full disclosure— This product was received through the Best Buy Tech Insider program. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.
Overview— This is a beautifully crafted everyday tablet/PC for everyone. I’ve been a frequent Surface user since coming across a reasonably priced Surface 3. I have owned in total a Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 (current), Surface Pro 6, and the previously mentioned Surface 3. But this was actually the first time using a product with Windows 10 in S Mode. My first impression was “this must be throttled to run safely”. However, as I read more details about the OS I quickly learned S Mode operated slightly differently than what I thought I understood. Why else would there be an “exit” for S Mode?
But, getting past my blonde moment, it operates much better than my initial thought.
Performance— To get a measure in this space I installed a variety of apps and ran them to gauge its performance.
To start, I tried installing something that was graphically intensive. I came across Inkscape and gave it a go. I had read plenty about it, just never used it before. It worked well enough, even with my limited use of it. Then I attempted to stream a few videos in the browser and monitor its resource usage but to my surprise, everything was perfectly fine. At this point, I didn’t have much else to test without taking it out of S Mode.
Immediately out of S Mode I attempted to use Krita with it. For those unaware, Krita is an open-source professional painting program.
After several streaks and 2 layers, I noticed significant bottlenecking. Obviously, this wasn’t meant for this kind of workload but gave me a good idea of its limitations. Lastly, I installed Ori and the will of the wisps— a side-scrolling platform adventure game. Nope, the Surface Go 2 wasn’t having it. It spikes at 100% CPU just loading the intro.
Now that I’ve got it’s limitations defined I tried using it within its scope of use. I finished typing up this review on Word before the trial expired. I’ve also taken it along with me to work a few times, which oftentimes requires a handheld pc to access system nodes. Finally, as a new, still-learning developer, I’ve installed a couple of applications for this and executed several of them on the Surface Go such as Visual Code Studio, Tkinter, etc. At first, the change from an AIO desktop felt a bit off but after a few days, it feels natural. Lastly, since I do not own a Surface-branded pen I’ve tested touch functionality with a universal stylus— the Meko. One of the same stylus I use to draw on a 6th gen iPad. With the Go 2, it works exceptionally well and is very accurate.
Battery life on the Go 2 does extremely well. Typically, I set my screen brightness to about half and type cover off or most dim. With use, I’m getting roughly 9 hours of life and about 36+ hours on standby.
Conclusion— in the short time I’ve owned the Surface I’ve fallen in love with it. This is an everyday tablet/PC for everyone—for work, school, or personal. In its class, it has one of the best camera combinations for working remotely. It is very easy to handle at approx 1lb 11.7oz with an 1840 model type cover attached. I can see myself using this for a very long time to come.

A premium looking/feeling keyboard
on July 8, 2020
Posted by: DJSmooth
from Inland Empire, CA
Full disclosure— This product was received through the Best Buy Tech Insider program. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.
Overview— This is a beautifully crafted keyboard. The suede-like material feels durable yet soft to the touch (Type cover packaging references it as Alcantara). The keys have just the right balance of resistance and responsiveness in each press giving a gratifying feel. The touchpad has a slightly different feel (harder, less squish) from earlier type covers. To clarify, I’ve owned a Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Pro 6 (although never owned a type-cover specifically for this model). Functions register perfectly (vertical/horizontal scroll and pinch to zoom). The overall size, for my tastes, is a bit small. Although, it has started to grow on me. The overall size measures 9 ¾” L x 7 ⅜” W edge-to-edge or 6 7/16” (key surface area excluding fold with magnetic connector). Light-up keys are very bright, such so that it can be used in daylight and you can still see the shimmer around the keys.
Cons— There isn’t much I can complain about except for the raised key bumps (F, J, Vol Up, Prt Scn). Compared to other type covers these aren’t very noticeable. Either not long enough, raised, or too low on the key, I can’t quite figure what. The only other issue (some may say it’s a good thing) I have is the keys are extremely smooth. Other type covers have a very light, almost unnoticeable texture over the key. It gives off a higher quality feel to it, although the texture may cause more dirt/grease to stick to the keys. As I mentioned, this second point is more of an opinion and can go either way.

Probably one of the worst HP printers I've used

Overall— It prints fine just like any other HP. The reason for “worst” is in the software. Setup was shoddy, it had me connect to the HP printers WiFi network then connect to my WiFi. That’s when the problems began. First, it would try to populate a list of networks that would result in a “no networks available”. If I open the WiFi tool on any other device I get back, almost instantly, my main WiFi & guest network followed by about 7+ neighbor networks. The HP app (I’m more inclined to believe the printer at this point) didn’t pull up anything after multiple refresh attempts. After closing the app and attempting the process again I managed to properly connect. This time it appeared on my list of pre-setup devices. Clicking the 2700 printer prompted the WiFi screen again, which finally populated the list. Click the correct network then enter my password and yet again… error. It wasn’t able to connect due to it claiming the credentials didn’t work. Backing out and entering my information again didn’t work. I force closed the app and tried again. This time the app said it was already connected.
That’s a head-scratcher to me. I clicked the newly connected printer to set up the print anywhere feature. That went smoothly for once. However, when connected locally through WiFi and the printer is idle for an extended period of time, it can't seem to find it. I’ve gone through the settings to see if there’s one to wake when prompted to print or to just stay awake. I have not seen anything like that there. In comparison, I’ve tried directly connecting to the printer through USB and that works with no problems.
To make things clear, using the HP smart app with an HP printer isn’t my first rodeo. I currently own 2 HP printers that use said app. Neither has given me the issues I’ve come across with this printer. All-in-all, it works, prints how it should, and has a solid construction.
Conclusion— Should I not have experienced setup and connection issues I’d fully recommend this printer. However, as it stands, I cannot.
It’s entirely possible I got a bad batch and that the printer I got received faulty components or poorly written software.

Play PC games with your Xbox Wireless Controller.

With will allow me to play Elder Scrolls Online with an Xbox One control on a pc that I built, and a wireless headset and microphone for my Spanish class?

I can only clearly answer your first question. That is a yes to playing Elder Scrolls Online with this headset. But in order for you to be able to pair it with your computer you will need an Xbox wireless adaptor that you will pair the headset to.
However, I’m not entirely sure if you’d be able to use it for a class once paired to the Xbox adaptor.

Is this compatible with any hp laptop?

It should be. According to the manufacturer, it's compatible with Windows and Mac along with iOS and Android. As long as your HP laptop falls in one of those operating systems you should be OK.

Whats up with the lack of reviews on this, is this a new product? Are the ear cups leather? Is the mic attached or apart of the headset?

Product released a little over a month ago, so it is still fairly new. I believe the lack of reviews is due to people being hesitant by its overall lack of reviews internet wide, not just best buy.
The mic is detachable, picture attached.
The cups are both a synthetic fabric and a faux like leather. The leather covers the outside and synthetic fabric covers the face (or the side that would press against the side of your head).

Easily hang your existing soundbar beneath your wall-mounted flat-panel TV with this Rocketfish™ RF-SBM101 mount that accommodates most soundbars weighing up to 15 lbs. for sturdy support. Steel material provides a durable design.

Can you mount a sound bar ABOVE a tv with this?

You can, just as long as you stick to the weight limits. I believe it really comes down to the soundbar and actual mounting slots on the back of the TV.
