Awkward refill, but large capacity
on November 9, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
This puts out a good amount of moisture, and the large capacity tank lasts for a long time between refills, but it really needs to last for awhile because it's so awkward to refill. You have to hold the tank upside down, and it's not symmetrical. You can't balance it easily with one hand, and it won't fit under most bathroom sinks - at least it won't fit under any of mine. You either need a very tall faucet like you normally find in the kitchen, or you need to use a separate pitcher or other container to pour water from. Not great when you're trying to humidify an upstairs bedroom and the kitchen is downstairs. Since it's so hard to balance upside down in one hand, good luck filling it by yourself from a pitcher. it comes with two different nozzles that can be positioned to point the mist in any direction. One nozzle sprays in one direction; the other sprays in two opposite directions to more easily humidify a large space. However, there are no directions on how to change the nozzle out. I ended up prying it out with a bobby pin. You can have have it light up with either a blue, green, or red light, or no light at all. It's also pretty quiet.

Use the built-in, fold-away frother to transform hot or cold milk/milk-alternatives into silky-smooth froth in seconds. Top your Specialty brew with frothed milk for a coffeehouse-style drink. The frother is also removable for easy cleaning. Choose from one of four different brew styles; classic or rich for a traditional hot cup of coffee, over ice for an iced coffee that's never diluted, or specialty to make a cappuccino or latte. Clean function, dishwasher-safe parts, removable Ninja pod adaptor and frother allow you to easily deep clean your unit.

so many options

I wanted something I could use to brew both single cups and entire pots, but this does so much more. The system for switching between K-cups and ground coffee is really ingenious. It minimizes the amount of additional pieces you have to deal with, and the brewer can tell which you're set up to use, so it only presents you with the choices you need. You can easily select the size of cup you're using or how much of a pot to make. You can select different brew strengths (beyond just how much coffee you're adding to the filter basket). There's even an intelligent drip cutoff in case you want to grab a cup out of the pot in mid-brew (or if you accidentally tell it to fill a larger mug than the one you put on the stand). The coffee comes out hot (I measured it at 175 with my bluetooth-connected coffee mug), and it stayed warm for hours in the carafe (still 145, three hours later). You can even reconfigure it so the water reservoir sits behind the pot inside of beside it, if space is a concern. If you love coffee, but you don't always need a full pot, or sometimes want to brew more than one cup at a time, I can't recommend this highly enough.

Cool automated optimization
on October 17, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
I've owned a few digital picture frames, and most of them suffered from the same drawbacks. It's inconvenient to load pictures onto an SD card, and half the time, it seems to screw up the orientation of pictures. They also usually have janky remotes and poor or non-existent touch controls. There's no dealing with storage devices with this frame; everything is uploaded wirelessly. This frame also senses whether you have it oriented in portrait or landscape mode, and can switch between the two on the fly. It also optimizes your photos to fit whichever direction the frame is in. It will automatically crop and resize so the picture fills as much of the frame as possible, and it also won't overcrop and cut out important parts of the picture. It will play your "live" photos from iOS before settling into the static image, and it will also play videos from your photo library. I have seen some weird stretching of videos' aspect ratios, but the photos always look good. It's also super easy to get others to share their photos in the frame. I sent an email invitation to my wife, and within minutes, she had installed the app and uploaded over a hundred photos to the frame. I can see how this would make a great gift for grandparents, with all the siblings sharing family photos to the frame. One last feature that I really like is using the app for most of the frame controls. There is a touch sensitive bar on two sides of the frame (so it's on top in either orientation), but most of the controls can be set wirelessly through the app. The display itself is very clear and sharp, with plenty of brightness. This makes every other digital frame seem like junk.

Cool lighting effect
on September 25, 2021
Posted by: bradcon

This is surprisingly heavy, but maybe it needs to be to make sure it doesn't tip over onto the glass. I think this probably works best as a table centerpiece, giving the impression of candlelight while providing ambient music. It has a touch sensor to raise or lower the light level or to switch between steady and flickering light. The flickering mode also has an option to sync with the music, but I couldn't tell any difference between that and the random flickers. The sound quality is good, but this is designed more for background music than a house party. All-in-all, this is a really attractive, unique type of speaker.

A small step up from a non-vibrating massage ball
on September 24, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
I'm not really sure what I was expecting from this, but I was expecting more than what this delivers. First complaint is that it's not rechargeable. That would have probably increased the price, but I don't like having to replace dead batteries in small devices. Yes, you could probably use rechargeable AAAs rather than disposable batteries, but you've still got to open the thing up and swap out batteries rather than just plugging in a cable. Second, it's not that useful as a handheld device. It works best when you wedge it between whatever muscle you're trying to massage and a hard surface and then roll around on top of it. So, good enough for calves, but not really useful for pecs or biceps. Sort of OK to put behind your neck/shoulders when sitting in a high-backed chair, but I managed to accidentally depress the power/speed button that way. The vibrations are not really that strong, so I'm not convinced you get a lot more out of this than just a hard rubber massage ball, but maybe there's a small advantage here. The only real use-case scenarios I see for this is to take it on travel when you don't want to lug around a big percussion massage gun.

Great looks, mostly good performance

This really looks the part of a gaming laptop. Before you even lift the lid, the iridescent accents catch the eye, but once it's open, it's really eye-grabbing. The keyboard lighting effects are awesome. You can tailor them with several different preset effects, and you can sync them to your games. The screen itself is also incredible. Very thin borders, so the laptop itself is only as big as it absolutely has to be to accommodate this screen. But still, 16" is a lot of real estate. The picture itself is bright, clear, and crisp. One of the better screens I've seen recently on a laptop. The graphics card handles games with ease, though it did not seem to handle streaming HD movies as well. I tried a couple of different streaming apps and neither worked great. YMMV. But the game graphics were super, and the fan noise was only medium loud. A lot of laptops tend to sound like jet planes taxiing to the runway when you crank up the graphics, but this was manageable. I'm not going to say it's quiet, but not so loud as to be distracting. Aside from the lighting effects, the keyboard is quite good as well. The size of the case allows plenty of room to spread the keys out properly, so I never felt like I was in danger of hitting multiple keys or having to adjust my normal keystrokes. It's not very "clicky" though, so if that's what you like, you're not going to get it here. I happen to like it though. The only real "issue" I've found with it is the fingerprint reader. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time, I ended up having to sign in with my PIN. Overall, I'd say this is a very solid choice. Good customization options, and not a lot of bloatware. Good pick for gaming but maybe not streaming.

We’re bringing Quantum Dot Color to the people. Enjoy over one billion colors, without worrying about how many commas are on the price tag. You’re welcome. The U6G also has 4K resolution, Dolby Vision HDR and Full Array Local Dimming Zones. Sounds like science, looks like a way more expensive set. Especially with a quad-core processor managing all the algorithms that add up to more colors, more precision and more ooohhh.

Super picture, good OS
on June 23, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
This isn't my first Hisense TV or my first Android TV, and this one improves in both areas. In a way, it's almost like updating your phone; they're both running the same OS, but it just runs better on the newer hardware. Even specific streaming apps behave better on the newer TV. I set my other one up using an Android phone, and it went slightly faster, but setup on this one was still quite simple. Once you're logged in, you still get the benefits of synchronizing all your account info on your Google account. The remote works well, and the TV plays nice with my soundbar through the ARC HDMI port. What little bezel there is around the screen seems even thinner on this one, and the picture is super clear. I don't have the most consistent broadband bandwidth, but this streamed 4K content well over wifi. I like my older Hisense Android TV, but I like this one even better.

big sound in a big package
on June 12, 2021

from Hays, KS
This is definitely not a small bluetooth speaker, but it needs to be big to put out sound like this. It is certainly portable, and the handle makes it easy to carry. The dust proof and water resistant case also makes it suitable for use outdoors, and that's where it shows off the best. Even at max volume, the sound is clear and distortion free, and the bass is surprisingly big. Visually, it's quite interesting. The passive radiators on the sides vibrate along with the bass very visibly. The LED lights that encircle those radiators add some accents. The options added by using the fiestable app are underwhelming, but it does give you the ability to change things up. The battery life is impressive, and the quick charge will give you a significant amount of capacity with only a little time plugged in. Overall, the best thing about this speaker, though, is the sound. I haven't seen a portable speaker put out this big of a sound outdoors before. Truly impressive.

Maybe not "smart"
on April 23, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
Not really sure why these are called "smart" glasses. Speaker glasses or headphone glasses, maybe. What they do is enable you to hear the sound from your smart phone, or other bluetooth-connected audio device, through tiny speakers in the temples of the eyeglass frames. For tiny speakers, the sound is quite good, and you have some limited equalization options if you also use the app for the glasses on your smartphone. They also have touch-sensitive spots on the outside of the frames (similar to a lot of earbuds) that allow you to control playback. The response to your taps or presses can also be customized, but only through the app. You can also "remember" multiple devices so you don't have to keep repairing if you want to use these with multiple devices. I think the main advantage here is the ability to listen without blocking out other sounds. So, if you want to use them as sunglasses while riding a bike, you can still listen to music without blocking out traffic sounds. The lenses are easy enough to swap out, but the sunglass lenses are not very dark. People nearby will still be able to hear the sound, so they're not going to give you any privacy, but they could be an option to avoid ear fatigue from wearing earbuds. The glasses themselves are quite comfortable, but maybe not the most stylish. They are fairly thick when folded up, but they come with a pretty decent case for carrying them in that also accommodates the charging cable.

Better in some ways
on April 4, 2021
Posted by: bradcon
from Hays, KS
I got this as an upgrade to a regular OneBlade that I've had for awhile. The OneBlade part of it still works exactly like a OneBlade, as expected. The ability to charge it on a stand is a definite improvement, and it's nice to be able to read the level of charge on the display. However, if you store it on the stand like I do, it's never going to get near running out of charge, and you don't need to know when you can take it off the charger, because that's where it's getting stored. The handle is thicker than the regular OneBlade, and I didn't find that made it any easier or harder to use - just different. What I was looking for in this was the guard with many more levels of length than the two clip-on guards that came with the original. While it does have that, the way the guard fits over the blade makes it much less easy to use, and I feel like I have to move it in the wrong direction for the hair to hit the correct side of the blade. After a few minutes of trying to use it like this, I just took off the fancy guard and went back to the old clip-on guards. So if you want this for the recharging stand and the power indicator, fine, but if you're getting it for the fancy guard, I wouldn't recommend the upgrade.

Does the Sony 1000XM3 InEar have it's own volume control? I need to amplify my listening, while my wife listens to the normal TV volume. I have a pair of the Sony 1000XM# over the Ear Head Phones and of course they DO have volume control. Thanks.

No, the on-ear controls only control playback; you have to control the volume on the device you're connected to.

Add stability to your home network with the Amped Wireless HELIOS-EX Wi-Fi Extender. With DirectLink technology, it avoids signal loss by adding another 5GHz Wi-Fi channel to the standard setup, which it then uses strictly for receiving signal from the source. This Amped Wireless HELIOS-EX Wi-Fi Extender covers an area of up to 12,000 sq. ft. and includes four Gigabit network ports.

Can it use the same SSID as my TWC modem?

It will "clone" your SSID by adding a suffix to it, but it won't let you use the identical SSID. If you want to extend a network that way, you need to go with a mesh network.
