Powerful Steam Cleaning
on September 24, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
Stubborn stains on my kitchen and bath tile floor and dining room hardwood floor did not stand a chance against the Bissell Powerfresh Slim Steam Mop. It was a real joy to use. Setup was simply a matter of snapping together three pieces together – the mop pad foot, extension wand, and hand held pod unit. Pour in some water into the container in the hand held pod using the included pouring cup, plug in the power cord, and you're all ready to steam. Simply select the level of steaming, either high steam for difficult stains or low steam for more delicate floors, and press the trigger on the hand held pod to release the steam. The steaming action loosened up the dried stains on my floors and the cloth pad removed the stain. It does take a few passes over the stain to completely remove it. I was able to steam 1200 square foot of floors using only a few cups of water.
Pros:
+Uses only water for cleaning. No need to purchase harsh cleaning chemicals.
+Cleans multiple surfaces. The steam mop includes attachment tools to clean grout, fabric, stoves, microwaves, countertops, sinks, and more.

+The power cord is 25' long. Plenty of cord length to use the steamer without having to constanting change wall outlets.
+Easy to clean and re-usable mop pad. After steaming the floors, you simply remove the mop pad and toss it into the washing machine using warm water and non-bleach liquid detergent. Air dry and that's it.
+Comes with a wall mount to easily store the steamer.
Cons:
-The hand held pod unit is relatively heavy. Adding the water into the container in the unit naturally adds even more weight to it. During use, I found that my hands and arms felt a bit fatigued from having to hold up and move the pod unit back and forth to remove stains. There were times when I had to hold it up with both hands. I can see someone who is elderly or with arthritis having trouble using this steamer.
Tips for Use:
There is a prerequisite to using the steam mop. The steam mop is only designed to remove stains and sanitize floors and surfaces. You will first need to vacuum the floors to remove as much dust, debris, hair, and food particles as possible. Only then can you use the steam mop.
Use only distilled or demineralized water. This will help prolong the life of the steamer.
Conclusion:
Ease of use, effective stain removal, versatility of use on more than just floors, and easy clean up are the reasons to consider purchasing the Bissell Powerfresh Slim Steam Mop. I would highly recommend the steamer and am even considering purchasing more to give as gifts.

Spectacular Comfort and Noise Cancellation
on September 23, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
I own over half a dozen top rated headphones and its a real shame that I won't be using them anymore after experiencing the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 Wireless Headphones II (QC35II). These headphones along with their predecessor (QC35) are simply one of the best in class noise canceling headphones available today.
Comfort:
I start out with comfort because no headphone is worth wearing, no matter how good it sounds, if you find yourself taking it off every half hour or more to alleviate ear fatigue. I know, I've been there.
The QC35II feels as light as a feather, weighing in at 10.9 oz according to Bose's website. The headband, constructed of stainless steel and engineered composite plastic and glass filled materials, is very strong, allowing it to elastically bend and stretch. There are ample incremental adjustments to the headband length which means that it will accommodate a large range of head sizes. The oval shaped ear cups are large enough to comfortably surround your ears. The top of the headband is cushioned with Alcantara, a premium material, giving it a touch of luxury.
What all this means is that Bose's Quiet Comfort lineup has become as legendary for its comfort as it has with its active noise cancellation feature. It is not mere opinion but a matter of fact among the industry that no other manufacturer has come close to developing a set of headphones to rival the comfort that Bose offers. It continues to hold true with the QC35II. I hardly feel the weight of the headphone resting on my head. More importantly, eyeglass wearers everywhere should rejoice. I wear glasses, and there is no pinching of the frames from the ear cups against the ears. No fatigue whatsoever, and I have been wearing the QC35II for the past six hours straight. You could sleep with them on, and that's one of the reasons its so popular with air travelers – superior comfort combined with noise cancellation.
Build Quality/Style:
The exteriors of the ear cups and exterior of the headband are plastic, but appear to be well built. According to Bose, the materials are impact resistant. I'll take this at face value as I'm not willing to drop my QC35II onto a hard surface to find out. All mating surfaces are tightly fitted. The ear cup cushions themselves are soft and supple, with a very premium feel. Bose describes the material used for the ear cushions as a synthetic protein leather.
I have the black colored QC35II headphones and they look sleek and professional, but unassuming. The all black design is definitely not bold. It's rather conservative. And this is the way I like it as a professional who commutes on the train and wouldn't want a funky looking headphone with gaudy design and colors attracting attention.
Button Layout:
All controls with the exception of one button, are located on the right ear cup Buttons are intuitively tactile. The center control button is depressed slightly, allowing you to easily locate the remaining +/- buttons. I will not go into the functions of these buttons as they are standard controls for headsets.
However, the single button on the left ear cup needs a brief introduction. This button is the new feature on the QC35II that is not found on the QC35. It controls the Google Assistant on your Android phone, assuming you own an Android phone. This left button can also be programmed to control the level of ANC as discussed below.
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC):
ANC is controlled two ways. The first is via the Bose Connect app. Through the app, you can select high ANC, low ANC, or turn off ANC entirely. The second way is to re-assign the button on the left ear cup to act as the ANC selector which will allow you to cycle through the three levels of ANC.
The ANC is amazing! I tested the headphones at an indoor swimming pool with loud, screaming kids and noise from HVAC and pump machinery operating. I put the ANC at its highest level without any music from the headphones, and the drone of the HVAC and machinery disappeared. The children's voices, although they are still audible, seemed eerily distant even though the screaming children were only several feet in front of me. As good as ANC technology presently is, it has not been developed to the point that it will eliminate all external sources of noises. ANC will only work for certain lower frequencies of the sound spectrum with a repeatable pattern, such as the sound of machinery, and of course an interior cabin of a passenger airline. It won't be as effective with human voices, higher frequency sounds, and non-repeatable patterns. So all those reviews that you read about people stating that the sound of crying babies being eliminated are misguided. ANC, by itself, will not eliminate all external noises. You will need to combine the ANC with music through the headphones loud enough to drown out the sound of voices.
ANC works in both wireless and wired mode. In wired mode, however, you will not have the low ANC option. It will be either ANC on high or ANC turned off. ANC functions independently and will work whether or not music is playing. You can use the headphones solely for the ANC feature. This is useful if you simply want a quieter environment for such things as studying or concentrating.
Audio Performance:
It's always a challenge to describe audio performance. It is subjective. I liken it to purchasing clothes or shoes. It's not a one size fits all solution. You really need to try it on to find out if you like it or not. Same goes with audio. You might want to have a stronger bass response. Or you might desire clearer highs. My recommendation is for you to go to your local Best Buy and bring your favorite audio tracks and see if it is the sound you prefer.
With that said, however, I will say that Bose tried to appeal to as many of us as possible. Sound is well balanced. Bass is strong, controlled, tight, without being too overpowering. Trebles are clearly present, but are restrained from drifting too high. Vocals (mids) are clear. This is classic Bose sound signature.
In wireless listening, the audio sounded the same regardless of ANC setting (high, low, off). In wired mode however, with ANC turned off, the audio sounded a little bit flatter.
Google Assistant:
The QC35II has the Google Assistant built in to the headphones. This is a great feature to have since you can have the Google Assistant do things for you without having to take the phone out of your pocket. Pressing and holding down the button on the left ear cup, you can speak right into the headphones to access the Google Assistant to do a multitude of tasks such as making phone calls, skipping songs, adjusting volume, etc. I found that much of what you can do with the Google Assistant with your phone, you can also do with the press of the left button on the headphones. Again, a very convenient feature to have when you don't want to reach for your phone.
Battery Life:
Bose states that you can get up to 20 hours of battery life in wireless mode, and up to 40 hours when using the audio cable. It will take up to 2.5 hours to fully recharge a depleted battery.
Differences Between QC35II and QC35:
I do not own the original QC35, but had to borrow one from a friend. When I tested the headphones side by side, they appear to have the same audio quality and superior ANC levels. The only difference I could tell is that the new headphones now have the dedicated button on the left ear cup to access the Google Assistant/adjust ANC levels. Also, the airline adapter jack has been eliminated in the QC35II. That's all I can observe is different.
Other Things:
Included in the box are the headphones, headphone storage case, a 4' long audio cable, and a micro usb cable for re-charging the battery.
The Bose Connect app has various features such as adjusting ANC levels, re-assigning the left ear cup button to function either as the Google Assistant or adjusting ANC, turning on and off voice prompts, changing prompt language, auto-off timer to assign a specific duration at which point the headphones will turn off, and a user manual. The app also displays the remaining battery life and allows for volume adjustment.
In order to use the Bose Connect app you will need to allow the app to access your location. Some of you may or may not be comfortable with providing this permission.
Conclusion:
You cannot go wrong with the Bose QC35II. Luxurious comfort, world-class ANC, very good audio performance, long battery life, and now with the Google Assistant built in, are the reasons to choose these headphones. I highly recommend you give them a try. The ANC alone will leave you speechless and the headphones are so comfortable that you don't want to take them off. You may just end up walking out of the store with them (after paying of course).

Easy and Simple Cloud Storage
on September 15, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
The Western Digital My Cloud Home is the company's latest offering in personal cloud storage solutions. It's a small, compact rectangular, unassuming device measuring 6-7/8” high x 2-1/8” wide x 5-1/2” deep, with a stylish two tone color of white and metallic silver plastic exterior housing the spinning hard drive inside the unit. Yes, it is a spinning drive. It would have been nice if it were an SSD drive, but that would have cost a lot more. The unit must connect directly to a wireless router via an ethernet cable. The cable is included in the box. The cloud drive is powered by an ac power adapter.
The My Cloud Home is a feature rich personal cloud storage device. I will highlight some of the prominent features and functions (the positives) I found to be most useful as well as some of the things I did not like (the negatives).
Positives
+Easy and simple to set up. Plug in the power, connect the supplied ethernet cable from the Cloud Home to your router, proceed to mycloud.com/hello webpage to create an acccount. The next steps are simply to download the My Cloud Home app from the Google Play or Apple App store. You're done.
+Versatility: You have three options to back-up and sync data. Use the mobile app, use a web browser to access the MyCloud.com web based app, or use the desktop app.
+Automatically syncs and back up photos and videos from your phone onto the drive. Depending on the speed of your wireless connections, the My Cloud Home quickly makes a copy of the photo onto the drive. You don't have to worry about running low on storage on your phone.
+Syncs online cloud content from Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive, Google Photos, Box, and Facebook. Once I granted permission for the file transfer, all of my Google Drive documents and Google Photos pictures all magically copied over to the Western Digital Cloud Home drive.
+Files from a desktop or laptop computer are also easily synced. Using either the desktop app or the web based app, files can easily be moved by dragging and dropping in the Windows desktop environment. With the Desktop app you have the most flexibility in the Windows environment. You can do things you normally would do like sort by filename, by date, by size, open and delete files, re-name files etc. The My Cloud Home drive functions like an external hard drive, only it is not physically connected to your computer, but wirelessly through your router.
+Allows multiple users to create accounts where the data is private so that users do not have access to each others data unless they provide permission to share it.
Negatives:
- No power button on the drive. You can only remotely power down the My Cloud Home using the Shut Down function on either the mobile app or the MyCloud.com web based app. Once powered down, the only way to turn it back on is to unplug the device and plug it back in. There is no way to remotely power on the drive. Would be nice to be able to power on and off remotely so that the drive isn't constantly running.
-No standby mode. Since the drive functions as a personal server, it remains on and continuously spinning until you power it down. If the drive is on all the time and spinning, this brings into question the longevity and durability of the unit.
-The mobile app syncs only photos and videos from the phone. All other files do not sync. This means that if you have any text documents, spreadsheets, or pdfs on your phone, there is no simple method to sync or upload to the My Cloud Home. I could not find a way to manually upload a non-picture/non-video file to the My Cloud Home using the mobile app. Western Digital should fix this via an app update.
-You cannot use the drive by plugging it into your host computer like you would with an external hard drive. If for some reason your internet wifi connection is down, you have no way of accessing your data from the My Cloud Home. Western Digital should consider including a way for dual functionality as both a Cloud drive and as a traditional external hard drive.
-Simple set up, but no supplied user manual. You must find and download the user manual online at Western Digital's MyCloudHome product webpage.
In summary, the Western Digital My Cloud Home provides the ease and flexibility of having your own personal cloud base storage solution and a viable alternative to 3rd party online cloud based storage such as Google Drive, Drop Box, and many others. There is good value in having your own personal home based cloud since you are able to access all of your digital content anywhere in the world without the storage limitations imposed by cloud service providers. Plus you have the comfort of knowing that all your precious digital content is stored in your home network cloud drive instead of in some server half-way around the world. Despite some of the minor negatives that I listed above, the My Cloud Home is a very good drive and the negatives should not deter you from making it one of your top considerations.

A Lean, Mean, Blending Machine!
on August 28, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
My blender of three years sputtered and died recently, and I was in the market for a new one. I've always used the economical blenders that simply got the job done. My old blender would leave small chunks of fruit and veggies unblended resulting in smoothies and shakes that just barely met my standard. Needless to say I was glad to be rid of the old blender and I was ready to try a more premium offering.
I did not know what to expect when I received the Vitamix Explorian E310 blender for I was under the misguided impression that blenders were all the same – after all, they did the same job of simply chopping/grinding/blending food really quickly into a mixture. The Vitamix Explorian did the job, but it did it faster, more effortlessly, and more efficiently than I had ever known using my previous blender. Smoothies were well mixed and homogeneous. There were no leftover chunks of fruits/veggies in the mix. I was also pleasantly surprised with how effortlessly the Vitamix Explorian handled the blending job. It never once strained or hesitated when blending through frozen fruits and ice. My old blender would be vibrating and making some serious grinding noises as it tried to cut through hard material. The Vitamix, however, did it with such ease that I initially thought something was wrong when I did not hear loud grinding noises. I was shocked to find that it had already blended through the frozen fruit without the least bit of effort. This thing is seriously a high performance blender.
The blender comes with the base unit, the container with lid, a tamper rod to push the food contents around the container, the user manual, and a basic blending recipe book.
One thing to note, in case anyone is wondering, is that the 48 oz. (6 cups) container is constructed of plastic not glass.
Here are the pros about this blender:
1. Powerful 12 amp motor that will make difficult blending jobs a breeze
2. The variable speed dial, the on/off switch, and pulse switch are large so they're easy to find, control, and press. (My previous blender had small buttons which annoyed me as I sometimes ended up accidentally pressing the wrong button.)
3. Very good build quality. The base unit is heavy with a hard exterior plastic shell. The power cord is thick and well insulated and appears to be of the same quality of those found on power tools.
4. Compared to my old blender (it was not a Vitamix), the Vitamix is noticeably quieter at all speed settings.
5.Clean up is easy. Just put the container in your dishwasher.
6. A very good 5 year warranty.
7. And the best thing of all, the Vitamix blender is engineered and assembled in the good old U.S.A. Kudos to Vitamix.
The only con I can think of would be the cost of the Vitamix blender. It is by no means cheap, but given that I have now personally experienced the better quality of the blender in terms of more refined texture and homogeneity of mixture along with greater efficiency, I think it is worth the price. Add in the peace of mind of a five year warranty, and you have a have a product with good value.

LG’s SJ7 Sound Bar Flex offers endless entertainment from a versatile dual-speaker design: The two main speakers can be placed in front of the TV, or to the left/right vertically or in front of and behind the listener for an even more cinematic experience. Both speakers are Bluetooth, and the right unit has a built-in battery, so it can work independently just about anywhere.

An Innovative Soundbar! Can I give it 6 stars?
on August 11, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
I have a very specific checklist when I go into a purchase for a soundbar. First and foremost it must have great sound - clarity for television show dialogue, richness for music audio, and immersiveness of hearing and feeling the action from movie blockbusters. Second, it must be easy to use, not only easy to put together at initial set-up, but it must be intuitive as I don't have the time to read through all the tiny print of the user manual each time just to understand what all the flashing lights mean. Third, it must be compact, but still deliver loud and quality audio. Finally, it must be good value where the price paid is commensurate with standout features and great quality audio.
Enter the LG SJ7 Flex Soundbar. It meets all the criteria I've listed above and then some. What exactly is the LG Flex Soundbar? Is it a 2.1 system or a 4.1 system or a portable bluetooth speaker? Well, its all of them combined into a three piece speaker system that allows you the flexibility to set them up however you want depending on your room and your needs. And it is not gimmicky...I was impressed at how the sound system delivered excellent audio quality in all the different set ups.
The speaker system is comprised of a primary (left) speaker, a secondary (right) speaker, and the subwoofer. You can actually configure the speakers in four different ways. The first way is to use the system as a tradtional soundbar unit by joining the primary and secondary speakers together horizontally as a single soundbar. The second way is by orienting the primary and secondary speakers vertically and propping them up onto separate speaker stands that you can place on either side of your television to create stereo separation. The speaker stands are included in the box. The third configuration is to use the secondary speaker as a rear surround speaker in a 4.1 set up while the primary speaker becomes the front speaker. Finally, the fourth configuration is to disconnect the secondary speaker from the power supply and use it as a portable bluetooth speaker which delivers 30 watts of audio power. The secondary speaker contains a lithium ion battery that only lasts a measly 4 hours of playback, and will take nearly an equal amount of time (3hr 40min) to fully recharge.
It may sound intimidating and complicated to do the initial set up for the speakers out of the box, but it is surprisingly easy. All you have to do is connect the back of each speaker to its own power cord and into the ac outlets. Once that is done, what you have to do next is press the power button on the primary speaker and slide the switch on the secondary unit to select between portable, rear, and soundbar use. Voila!...you're done and ready to go! Besides the three power cords, the system is communicates with each of the other two speakers wirelessly.
You can read up on all the specs for the speaker system on the LG webpage, but I'll just point out some of the important ones to save you the trouble. Physical connection is either through hdmi arc or via the optical cable. There is no 3.5mm aux connection. Wireless connection is through bluetooth. There is no NFC. When connected to AC power, the sound system can deliver up to 320 watts (80 watts each for the two speakers, and 160 watts for the subwoofer), but if you disconnect the secondary speaker from the power supply, the speakers take a hit in output and will go down to a total of only 140 watts in a 2.1 and 4.1 set up. The subwoofer measures 6.7” width x 12.6” height x 9.9” depth and weighs 9.3 lbs. The primary and secondary speakers share identical dimensions of 13.4” width x 2.9” height x 4.3” depth in the horizontal position. (Naturally, when you prop the speakers up in the vertical position, they will be 13.4” in height). And the following numbers are not listed in the LG specs as I did my own measurements: primary speaker weights 3.9 lbs, secondary speaker weighs 4.1 lbs (probably due to the lithium ion battery), power cord lengths for the speaker each measures approximately 10 feet in length, and the sub-woofer power cord is approximately 5 feet in length. LG was pretty generous to provide ample length of power cord and they also included two cable ties to organize your power cables.
Onto sound quality, that's the purpose of why you're considering purchasing this flex soundbar system, right? As I mentioned in my introduction, there are several measures for audio quality of a soundbar system. One is the clarity of conversational dialogue. If I can't hear an improvement in sound clarity over my built in television speakers, then it's going back in the box and back to the store. Well, with the LG flex soundbar, the dialogue is crisp and clear. In fact if it isn't as crisp as you would like it, you can make adjustments to the sub-woofer bass, the treble, and the bass for the speakers. Dial down the bass and you'll get better vocal clarity for listening to dialogue. Most budget soundbar systems only include adjustment to the sub-woofer bass unit, but LG included adjustment to the treble sounds as well. This is great feature to have.
As for listening to music, audio quality is superb - well balanced with all lows, mids, and highs well represented. Audio clarity and instrument detail are captured very well. Of course you can unbalance things a bit with adjustments to the treble and bass as mentioned above and when you do that, the music comes alive! Dial up the bass and the sub-woofer's low frequencies will thump and vibrate the floor. The bass is powerful for such a compact sub-woofer. Dial down the bass, and turn up the treble and the instrumentals will shine. The speaker system is very versatile in handling the dynamic range of music.
Finally, the speakers really rock when replicating the immersive cinematic experience. For watching movies, I either prefer to set the speakers up vertically for stereo separation or set them up as a 4.1 system. Turn up the bass and action sequences and explosions make you feel like you're part of the experience! If you turn up the volume and bass high enough, you'll hear every rumble and may even feel the vibration of the bass along the floor and wall depending on the material composition of your room. You'll enjoy it, but if you have a shared wall with your neighbor, be ready for some complaints. I was truly surprised that for a budget system at this price point, the bass is so powerful. The 4.1 sound system in the LG SJ7 is decent, but cannot compete with a 4.1 system with dedicated left and right rear separated speakers.
Some final notes before concluding. There is an onboard screen on the primary speaker that will have a display of the different functions and settings. For example, as you adjust the sub-woofer equalizer, the screen will display that you're adjusting the sub-woofer and will display each numerical value of bass as you're adjusting the bass up or down between -15 to +6. Also, if you select one of the preset equalizers, the display will tell you which equalizer setting you have it set on. The onboard screen is helpful as it elminates having to guess if you've pressed the correct buttons on the remote or whether or not you have even made the adjustments. This is way better than on some sound bars where only flashing lights are displayed making you guess whether or not you did things correctly.
The portable bluetooth speaker works well, also having great audio clarity and dynamic range. However, the few shortcomings are that the only connection is bluetooth (no 3.5mm aux), short battery life of 4 hrs, and that it is rather large to really take around outside of the home. So, even though it is still considered a portable bluetooth speaker, I would really reserve its use for different areas of the home such as a kitchen, bedroom, or dining room. It's also not designed to be rugged and it has no waterproofing or water resistance, so this speaker should stay indoors and shouldn't accompany you outdoor to pool parties.
So do I recommend the LG SJ7 flex sound bar? An unequivocal yes! This speaker system is a gem and deserves six stars, not five. The extra star is for being innovative in producing a simple to use, versatile system that has multiple configurations while maintaining great sound quality.

Amazing Audio Quality
on July 9, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
Let's start with the audio quality of the JBL Everest 310...simply amazing! I have a box of over a dozen headphones from the major name brands such as Bose, Sony, and JBL, and I was truly astounded by the phenomenal audio quality of the JBL Everest 310. They are the best sounding headphones I have ever heard. The entire audio sound spectrum is well represented – highs, mids, and bass are all there. The audio sounded so good out of the box that I did not even need to use an equalizer app to adjust the sound like I usually need to do with other headphones. The bass punches when it needs to and is not overwhelming and doesn't drag down the highs and mids. The sound has great depth and clarity as well. I could not believe such great audio was coming from a bluetooth connection. I could not tell the difference between wireless vs wired connection. The audio quality on the Everest 310 is simply that good. Wow!
This is a premium set of headphones and JBL recognizes it. The headphones come with a hard protective carrying case with an interior pocket to store the usb charging cable and 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable. The earcups can be folded and also twisted for easy storage. Kudos to JBL for supplying a storage case!
Comfortwise, these are on-ear headphones and will compress against your ears. However, the cushions on the earcups are thick, soft, and comfortable. I also wear glasses and I did not experience any pain or fatigue after wearing the headphones for over an hour.
Build quality is very good. The headband is metal and the rest of the headphones is plastic. All parts of the headphones appear to be well mated with tight tolerances. A large letter 'R' and 'L' are printed inside the earcups to easily identify the right and left sides of the headphones.
The bluetooth connection is very good. I did not experience any skipping or breaks. Another major plus is that the JBL Everest 310 does not have the annoying bluetooth audio hiss where you hear a hissing noise during the brief silence between audio tracks that seem to plague so many other lower quality bluetooth headphones.
Another great feature of these headphones is that it has the JBL ShareMe function where you could wirelessly connect any other bluetooth headphones, from any manufacturer, to the Everest 310 and share your music wirelessly. This is a cool feature to have and is especially useful for situations such as car trips where you can have two kids watch a movie while each of them has their own set of wireless headphones for the audio.
The JBL Everest 310 is nearly perfect, but I do have have two gripes about these headphones. First the buttons on the right earcup do not have the best tactile feel to them that I find it difficult to identify the correct button to push while wearing the headphones. Second, there is no indication of how much battery life is remaining. I understand that the battery lasts 20 hours of use between charges, but there should be some type of battery meter either built into the headphone when it is powered on or via an app which tells you how much battery life is remaining.
In summary, I can say without hesitation that these are hands down the best sounding wireless on-ear headphones I have ever heard and I fully recommend them. I am astonished by the level of audio quality that JBL is able to achieve with these headphones. They are really setting the standard for others to follow.

Good Entry Level Wireless Ear Buds
on June 30, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
The Jlab Jbuds Pro is pretty much a no frills in-ear headphone for those who are budget conscious. The package contains the earbuds wth three gel cushion tips, two sizes of ear fins, a cable clip, a micro usb charging cable, and a basic set of instructions. My ear buds arrived fully charged. Battery life is announced every time the ear buds are powered on. All controls are managed by a bulky in-line controller which has the microphone, a center button for powering on/off and bluetooth pairing, and standard up/down buttons to adjust volumes and change music tracks.
One good quality about these ear buds is that it is very comfortable. The gel cushion tips fit well within my ear canal forming a good seal, however it is not designed to block out ambient noise.
Sound quality is decent. Voices have good clarity. However, when playing music, it becomes evident that the headphones lacks depth and detail. Overall, the audio has good balance with slight emphasis on the middle frequencies. Bass is present, but is a bit lacking and will not appeal to those seeking low frequency punchiness.
The microphone is okay, but tended to pick up a lot of background noise. People on the other end of a phone call may have difficulty hearing your voice if you are in a noisy outdoor environment. To have the person on the other line hear you clearly, you'll need to have the microphone pretty much right next to your mouth, otherwise your voice will sound distant.
The specs state that the battery lasts for 6 hours of play back. I got around that much in my testing.
Another thing to note is that these headphones also suffer from the characteristic bluetooth hiss that can be heard at low volumes.
Would I recommend these headphones? Yes. They offer “good enough” audio quality for this price point...in other words good value. The Jbuds Pro wireless earbuds cannot compete with the flagship bluetooth in-ear earbuds from the premium manufacturers, but they were never designed with that purpose in mind. The Jbuds Pro are designed for the average budget conscious consumer who is willing to make some compromises in audio quality for a basic set of wireless earbuds and wouldn't get too upset if they were lost because of the reasonably low purchase price.

Logitech Continues to Innovate
on June 29, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
I've always thought that the mouse was one of those utilitarian technologies that couldn't be improved upon and that Logitech, being the most dominant player in this market, would not have any incentive to make a better mouse. The Logitech MX Anywhere 2S proved me wrong. From the sculpted design to the weighty feel of the mouse, and right down to the smooth rolling speed of the hyper-fast scroll wheel, it felt very refreshing as if I were holding a mouse for the first time.
The mouse is well designed. It is rounded at the palm of the hand like any old mouse, but is more angular along the side edges and the front. Placement of the buttons is very natural. There is the forward/backward thumb buttons on the side, scroll left/scroll right button on the mouse wheel, and a middle gesture button directly below the wheel. All five of these buttons can be customized to your liking to control other content such as adjusting volumes, opening and closing windows, etc.
The mouse is powered by a lithium ion polymer which Logitech claims can last up to 70 days on a full charge. I've only had this mouse for a day, so I can neither corroborate nor deny their claim. The amount of battery remaining is indicated by the green led lights when you switch on the mouse. 3 green lights means the battery is fully charged, 2 lights mean it still has 66% charge, 1 light is 33% charge, and a red light means it's time to charge.
One of the nice things about this mouse is that you have a choice of how you want to connect it to your computer, either through the unifying receiver or via bluetooth. The mouse is feature rich. To get the most out of the mouse, you need to download the “Logitech Options” software. Once you install the software, you can customize the buttons, make adjustments to pointer speeds, define the direction of the scroll wheel, and seamlessly switch the mouse to up to three different computers with the Logitech Flow technology. The Logitech Flow is pretty awesome and this is one of the features that you're paying for in this premium mouse. This function allows you to seamlessly move the mouse from one computer to another and to copy and paste content from one computer to another with just the click of the mouse (note, you cannot drag and drop). You need to download and install the Logitech Flow software on the two (or three) computers you plan to use with this mouse and follow the on-screen menu that will lead you through the set up process. Once set up is completed, you will be amazed at how easily it is to cut/copy/paste content from one computer to another with the mouse. To get the mouse from one computer screen to the next, you simply move the mouse cursor to the edge of your first computer screen ,and the mouse cursor magically appears on your other computer screen and you could then control the other computer and paste or copy the file onto the second computer. It's a pretty cool feature that Logitech provides to give an option on how to transfer files between two computers. However, both computers need to be on the same network for the Logitech Flow to work.
Another cool feature that you're getting with the MX Anywhere 2S is the hyper-fast scrolling function. With a simple press of the wheel, the scroll wheel transforms from a traditional wheel that will click and scroll a few lines at a time to a hyper scroll wheel allowing you to quickly scroll up and down long documents or web pages with a low friction spinning wheel.
Other than those two main standout features (1. Logitech Flow and 2. Hyper-fast Scrolling), you pretty much have an advanced functioning mouse with customizable buttons. You also get Logitech's Darkfield high precision tracking sensor which will track on any surface including glass which is useful if you find yourself in situations where you're in need of using the mouse in a less than ideal surface.
In summary, Logitech's MX Anywhere 2S is a great choice for anyone seeking a sleek wireless, high performance mouse with bluetooth connectivity needing to transfer files between computers or needing to control up to three computers with a single mouse. There isn't anything negative I can think of about this mouse. You really cannot go wrong. The deciding factor is whether or not you will be needing to use the Logitech Flow or the hyper scrolling features. If you need them, then this mouse should be considered; if not, then Logitech has more basic mice offerings to select from at a lower price point.

The Nyne Rock is the Life of the Party!
on June 23, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
The Nyne Rock bluetooth speaker is near the top of its category in terms of a powerful bluetooth speaker capable of reaching very loud volumes ideal for outdoor events like pool parties and barbecues. In order to deliver those loud sounds, the physics demanded that the speaker must be proportionately large. The speaker measures 21.2” wide x 6.5” high x 9.7” depth and weighs in at a tad over 10 lbs. I'm not sure why the Best Buy specs are incorrectly stating that its 12 lbs, and how every other reviewer seemed to just blindly follow suit with this number without validating the actual weight, but I weighed the speakers and also checked this against the specifications in the instruction manual which lists it at 4.6kg or 10.1 lbs. For those who do all their shopping online without physically going into a store to look at a product, take note that this speaker is massive. The speaker is advertised as being portable, but portability here is definitely used very loosely in the sense that you can pick up the speaker and still be able to transport it (If we apply this definition, then most consumer electronics are portable), but keep in mind that the Nyne Rock won't fit in your backpack, purse, or most bags for that matter....in other words it may be portable but its far from being compact.
In terms of build quality, the Nyne Rock is designed to be very rugged and the hard black plastic and rubbery shell will handle some of the elements such as light bumps and water splashes. The rubber foot pads of the speakers are very grippy and is slip resistant even on wet surfaces. Speakers are well protected from the elements with the metal grills.
The control buttons are all lined up at the top of the speakers and will be lighted for the duration that the speaker is turned on. Buttons are standard: power, bluetooth connect/phone answer, play/pause, skip forward, skip reverse, volume up and down. On the rear of the speakers and hidden in a compartment door are the connectivity outlets and battery meter. In this area you will find the aux-in, line-out, usb 5V/1A built-in powerbank smartphone charge socket, power outlet for the ac adapter, and a battery level indicator that displays remaining charge.
The sound quality of the Nyne Rock is very good. The specifications state that the speakers are powered by 2x12.5W mid-range drivers, 2x5.5W tweeters, and 1x25W subwoofer. The sound spectrum is well represented, but a little weighted toward the treble frequencies. For a unit of this size, I was surprised that the bass is not overpowering even as the volume is turned up. The bass is clearly audible, but it is not bass heavy. In fact turning up the volume seems to make the higher audio frequency range more pronounced. Even though the Nyne Rock is more than capable of cranking out the loud sounds, you want to refrain from having the music playing at the loudest volume setting because the unit will distort the sounds at that volume. Keep it a few volume notches under, the music will still be loud, and you won't get that distortion. Another thing to take note is that the speaker will emit an audible hissing noise at high volume settings when no music is playing.
The speaker is easily connected via bluetooth/NFC. All my devices were able to quickly find the Nyne Rock on bluetooth and connect almost instantaneously. Also, if you like things hardwired, you can connect to the speakers with a 3.5mm audio cable.
The specs state that play time lasts anywhere from 10-12 hours on a single charge. In my testing, I was able to get around 12 hours with the Nyne Rock at the mid-volume setting. Obviously, if you are playing music at the loudest volume setting or charging your phone with it, you will drain the battery quicker.
So in summary, the Nyne Rock is an awesome bluetooth speaker for those scenarios where you need to have some seriously loud audio for parties and outdoor settings. It is a large speaker that can be obtrusive in a small room and will occupy quite a bit of real estate on desks, dressers, bookshelves, and such. In these kind of cases, I would recommend the more typical, smaller bluetooth speakers where they are truly considered portable and still have decent audio quality and volume. But every bluetooth speaker has its place and function, and the Nyne Rock feels most comfortable being the life of the party!

Fun Learning for the Kids & Great Bose Quality
on June 15, 2017
Posted by: lambda100
The Bose Build Speaker Cube is really a fun experience for a child to put together and learn about how a speaker works. My eight year old put the speaker together by herself, learning in the process with the Bosebuild Sound app through the Apple App store. Once assembled, the bluetooth speaker connected easily to her tablet, and she was able to listen to her favorite tunes. The audio quality is very good with well balanced sounds and clarity. Kids will enjoy the changing lights as the speaker plays music and sticking the various silhouette covers on the cube.
Here are things I liked about the Bose Build Cube:
(1) Educational – Kids will have fun learning
(2) Simple to assemble
(3) Very good Bose quality sound
(4) Connect via bluetooth or with a 3.5mm aux cord
(5) The speaker lights up as it plays music. (Note the lights can also be turned off if it's too bothersome.)
Minor things that I disliked include:
(1) Bluetooth speaker is not portable. You must power it with the supplied AC adapter power supply. There is no rechargeable battery.
(2) No separate volume control on the speaker. All volume is controlled through your host device (tablet, laptop, PC, phone)
(3) The speaker is exposed. There is no speaker grill to protect it from being damaged. Knowing that children can be rough on things, Bose should have provided a grill.
(4) Relatively expensive. At the regular price of $149, the Speaker Cube is an expensive learning tool. You could take the entire family to a science center for a whole day of educational fun and still have money left over.
(5) Access to the app is only through the Apple App store. The entire Android market was left out. It would be wise for Bose to include an app through the Google Play store in the future. Note, the speaker will work on any device (iOS, Android, Windows PC, laptop, etc.) that has either bluetooth or an aux connector.
Overall, it is a great sounding, quality speaker that kids will enjoy learning and building. It's a five star product, but I have to deduct a star for value because, as I mentioned above, it is expensive for the learning experience gained.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

Can anyone who has used these AND the Bose QC35 comment on the overall comfort for long trips? The QC35s are good, but I can't wear them for more than 3-4 hours before my outer ears start to hurt from the pressure from the cups.

I have both the QC35 and the 1000XM2. The QC35 is more comfortable on long trips. The 1000XM2 headband forces the earcups to press more firmly against my ears and is less comfortable.
