Ooma is a very good phone for those who are not into a lot of international calling including Canada. That means, if you want to keep calling within US it is a good investment and you can save a lot of money over the years.
If you are a person who makes a lot of international calls, this is not at all recommended for you. Better you off with Vonage. Because to make cheap international calls you need to subscribe to their premium service which will cost you additional $10 a month. With that you have to pay another $10 for 1000 international minutes. With the basic Federal/e911/state tax etc that will come up to $24 (+/-1) a month with limited number (1000 minutes) of international calls.
Fee/taxes $3.50/Month Premium Service $10.00/Month International minutes $10.00/Month Total $23.50/Month
If you pay another $10 (Total around $34 including tax) you can have unlimited US/Canada & international minutes with Vonage.
Another misleading fact is that they do not provide a True second line with their premium service. It is a virtual second line. I am a phonepower customer for more than 2 years and they provide you with 2 physical lines in one adapter. You can have a conference with upto 5 people if you have 2 line phone with you. With Ooma's virtual second line you can have conference upto 3 people only.
Despite the fact that it is not a real cost saver compared to Vonage, I am still keeping Ooma because it is the only VOIP service that is fully compatible with FAX/Alarm systems after PhonePower.
Conclusion: if you are a basic user who needs to call within USA only, Ooma is the right choice for you; otherwise you have wide options there in the VOIP market :)
What's great about it: Call quality, Fax compatibility
What's not so great: Premium Service with a premium price

My first Ooma worked for one day. I set it up at night, made one call, to make sure it worked. The next morning, it had quit working. It set up pretty easily. But when it failed, there was no debugging information. It had just failed. I still had my Vonage phone, so I plugged it into the same network, and Vonage worked fine. I bought this to get rates cheaper than Vonage.
Took it back to the store and got a new one. When I asked Ooma for the number I had been assigned previously, they said they would charge me $19.99 for it. They said if I had the phone for 30 days, and it quit working, then they would have given me the previously assigned number.
They apparently left me a voice message, but I couldn't make out what they said, because of the sound quality. While someone mentoned the local service, the person serving me by e-mail said they couldn't contact me because of the time, so they sent me an e-mail at about 3 in the morning. I doubt if they live in our time zone.
Really disappointed in this system, but since I've paid for it, guess I'll try to live with it, at least until I've broken even. But if I'd known the problems I was going to have, I wouldn't have bought this.
What's great about it: Eventual cost savings
What's not so great: Quality sometimes poor, service not good.

The Ooma Telo has been in service for a few weeks in the house now and everything is great. Installation was extremely easy. Just make sure you have high speed internet and you are all set for good voice quality and pretty much free calls to all of US. I pay $3.47 a month for tax and fees in my area. Can't beat that. My old phone provider charges $25/mo just for basic service, not to mention all the long distance charges on top of that. I dump them immediately after I got my Ooma. Voice quality is great. My family and friends didn't notice any difference during phone conversations.
What's great about it: Save money in the long run
What's not so great: Unit gets a little warm, but it's no big deal

I switched from another VoIP carrier and am very pleased with the result. I just completed paperwork to port my second line to Ooma - again, straight forward.
The call quality has been excellent - I've been on the service for 3 months and find it very worthwhile.
A minor issue had emerged. I was able to resolve it with a single phone call to a local person who was pleasant and polite - great service, no repeat issues.
What's great about it: call quality, cost, ease of setup, customer service
What's not so great: having to prepay for international long distance

So far, our Ooma is working great and sound quality is good. However, our number port is not complete yet, so I don't know if that will have any effect on performance. I would have had trouble hooking it up, but thankfully, more technically gifted people in my family took care of that for me. Shop around, there are deals out there, you don't have to pay retail price.
What's great about it: You won't have any more phone bills.
What's not so great: Technically challenged people may need help hooking it up.

Call quality is only slightly inferior to my cell phone, which is great. There is about 1/4-1/2 second delay when speaking, so you sometimes end up interrupting each other. And certain factors can negatively influence call quality, including (in my case) a call coming in on another line. Overall, though, these few downsides are MORE than compensated for by our dramatically slashed phone bills. We'll be keeping it. By all means give it a try!
What's great about it: Slashed phone bills, reasonable call quality

After a lot of research, we decided on Ooma. I'm so glad we did: * setup was a breeze * voice quality is very good, had no complaints, have not told anyone of the change and they have not spoken of any issues * customer service was very good. had a couple questions that were quickly answered with online chat. * the transfer of our existing number was estimated to take four weeks, it took four days * our landline phones were outdated so purchased great Panasonic cordless with 6.0 dect plus technology, it works great with ooma * love the ability to grab voice mails from their website * the best thing was (after listening to complaints for a year from my wife due to rate hikes) hearing my wife call ATT to cancel - priceless! * have gone from $40/month to $3.50/month
