A:

On the backside of keyboard is the battery compartment. It is a little difficult to "slide" open. Normally there is a groove or raised area that you press firmly on with a finger or thumb to gently slide away cover. With my keyboard I had to slip my nail into the space between battery cover to pry open and then slide cover out. On the other hand, you won't have a loose battery cover. Also, there is no ON/OFF switch on this keyboard.

A:

This keyboard has a HP Link-5 sub micro receiver. IF ur HP mouse has this technology too then you can link several wireless devices. I attached a photo of th HP Link-5 info. It says "if you already have a Link-5 receiver plugged into your PC there is no need to plug in an additional receiver...to pair...move to within 1 foot of your existing Link-5...press Connect button on the bottom of the device, then press a key or click a mouse button."

Q:

I use the F1-F12 keys often. The function keys on this keyboard have the respective F1-F12 along with commands like play/pause. Do you have to hold down one button to then select a function key? Like if you hit F6 alone, does it play/pause or do it operate as F6?

You can change the function keys default settings in the bios. This would allow you to swap what the FN key will do.

A:

If the compatible MS keyboard accessory for the tablet connects through USB, this would too. If not, the tablet may not have USB drivers built into the OS for user interfaces like a keyboard or mouse. It may be Win8 but it is likely also a cut down "mobile" version of WIn8 where some things are left out to reduce size and others left out to reduce compatibility with non-MS accessories that they want you to buy from them.

Try a wired normal USB keyboard on it if you have one. If it works, then this HP wireless keyboard will too.

There is no on/off switch, only reset. However, it is only using power when keys are pressed. It also contains no LED lighting or indicators.

Look at the top right hand corner on the keyboard itself. See the small OFF/ON slide switch? Slide it. If you see red, the keyboard is off.

There is, however, I never turn it off. The AA batteries seem to last longer than my memory of replacing them.

I do not use rechargeable batteries.

I would say they are pretty similar. The chiclet keyboard is very similar, but will give you more of an audible sound when the key is depressed. I really like the numerical keypad integration. I received this from someone getting rid of it, but I would buy it if I had to. Hope this helps.
