Yes, the printer doesn't care since the difference is mostly in the height. I used the XL black all the time although my other colors are the regular size. My printer also takes the photo black. I have it in XL as well but not the colors.

Check the exact name and model number of your printer, then go to company which sold printer to find out what number ink cartridge you need. It should also give you an ink cartridge number in your printer's users manual.

The purchase of a cyan, yellow, magenta & black ink cartridges for our HP Photosmart 6520 was not because we needed the cyan, yellow or magenta at the time....but did need the black cartridge....the sales associate guided me into purchasing the other 3 cartridges to SAVE on cost....it cost me less to purchase all 4 than if I had bought only the black cartridge which was needed for immediate use!

I have a HP photos art 7520 series. My black ink slot is narrow and on the left side next to the colors. The photo black is on the right and a wide slot. I cannot find the regular black ink anywhere sold by itself .

I have a 7520 also and the photo black is the skinny one on the left next to the magenta (kinda pinkish color) The regular black ink one is on the right. You can get each separately at Best Buy or any retailer that sells hp ink cartridges. I usually get mine at Best Buy. If they run out in the store I get them at bestbuy.com.

Sorry this site doesnt have when you posted this question until you click on the link but since its been 14 months you probably already know to click on the HP printer icon and then the ink level icon and it will show you the ink levels between the 3 color and black inks

Touch the water symbol on the touch screen. (Looks like a tear drop)Then each color will show the current ink level for each color. Just change the one that shows empty.

The individual cartridges on this model allow you to replace the specific colors as needed. If you are out of all three color cartridges your documents will still print however will only be in black and white.

The cartridges are sold in packs or separately. Get just the one(s) you need or get the whole set. I notice that, even though I have both black cartridges installed, if a color cartridge is too low the copy feature is not available. Be prepared.

The 564 ink is available in a bundle package with the three color ink (magenta, cyan, yellow) but I do believe you need to order the black separately.

Yes, all of the 564 series inks are separate....meaning there is no one cartridge with two or more colors in it. They do sell a few packages with multiple cartridges in them....but generally black is separate because it is used the most.
