We also have an IPad and the Surface Pro 2 is just a quick to boot up and connect to the Internet. It has many other features that the IPad does not offer.
We purchased new software for the Surface Pro 2 from Microsoft Office, but it we would have had the software available we could have downloaded it to the Surface. You should not have any difficulty dowloading your Office 2007.
The Office suite is a 30 day trail. After that, it's $9.99 a month. However, if you get the non-Pro Surface version, it is included. Doesn't make sense, I know, but there it is.
I purchased mine a few weeks before Christmas and I have the 1.6. If its too late to cancel the order hold down the start button and from the sub menu that pops up go to System to see what you have. If you do end up with the 1.6 retune it (you should have 30days) then have best buy verify that the one you get has the 1.9. Best of luck, either way you will love the tablet!
Nobody cares if you have a surface pro you should probably think about the windows phone since they run basically the same os but for the answer yes it should be able to you have the w7 desktop you can go to and install w7 programs on it
It is a micro SD slot..but a lot of cameras come with a cord to connect from your camera to a computer via a usb port, which the Surface Pro 2 also has..maybe you could use that instead?
You can install any app that you can install on a regular PC on the surface pro 2. So as long as you get a version that runs on windows 8.1 your goo to go. Install it like you were using a PC, the only difference is no cd drive so just download the latest ver from the web site or copy the cd to a portable hard drive or flash drive.
