We never had a problem with the wifi. But some of the posts in the internet seem to suggest that it is an issue with the power settings of yoga 2.

I also noted those reviews before we purchased but our experience has been no problems w/ WiFi connectivity. She has used it in multiple hotels and restaurants as well as home and office WiFis.

The only wifi connectivity problem I seem to experience is that it doesn't automatically connect to known networks and sometimes when a lot of devices are using wifi the computer's wifi is the first to fail. Don't really have a fix but it's not that big of a deal

I have not had any problems connecting with WiFi. I just got back from vacation in Virginia and took it with me and had no troubles connecting with WiFi in the hotels I stayed at or at my families.

A:

Yes!! The Hard drive is upgradable. It may void your warranty, so buyer beware. you will have to remove the whole bottom panel of the laptop to access the hard drive.
There is enough room for a 7mm SSD in this laptop. I used an intel 320 series 300GB SSD (which I removed from my old laptop). It comes with an extender bracket that makes it 9mm, which I removed to make it 7mm.
The software I used was to copy the drive was EASEUS TODO Backup. Use to CLONE mode to clone the entire drive with all partitions. I wont go into specifics here, but it is probably the most simple software to use and it is free.
The computer started right up and is much more snappy than with the old HDD. Battery life does not improve with SSD drive vs HDD, contrary to popular belief. But the Laptop is considerably quicker at loading programs and start ups.

the current hard drive is a 5mm thick spinning hdd. Most ssd drives are 7mm. You are going to need to find a SATA SSD drive that is 5mm thick. I could not find anything. The user that posted the photo below may be able to shed some light on if there is space available for a slightly thicker drive. my bet is there is not. I have not taken the bottom off to investigate at this time. But, if I do, i will post an updated answer to this thread.

It appears to be a SATA HDD in the laptop. However, looking around the net for the model number reveals this HDD is only 5MM. I have only seen 7MM SSD drives, and have yet to find a 5MM SSD option. If anyone does, please post your find here.
For reference, here is the model number of the HDD currently in the Yoga: ST500LT032

Well, if it will fir standard SATA connector - it will work. Not sure about warranty though :) But it should make your Yoga completely silent (no fans, no moving parts), boost performance and battery life. Tht's what I'm going to do with mine :)

go to the search magnifier in the upper right on the Tile screen and type Office. You can activate the online download subscription or the one time static download. Both ways will take you to the Microsoft site to download the software onto the machine.

Upgrading and slow labtop

Q:

This is my second Lenovo Yoga 2 11 in 48 hours. The other I took back because frankly it crashed. My current one I am attempting to upgrading windows and it is so so slow. I have never seen something run this slow. I left it on all night to upgrade and it is still going and saying 0%. The sales person told me there is a prompt or something that says to upgrade to windows 8.1, where is that? I am thinking of returning this product, unless I can get some answers. It also keep disconnecting from the wifi at home that I have never had a problem with. I love the durability and feel of this computer but out of the box is not working to my satisfaction. Please help.

Windows 8.1 you can find in the app store on the laptop. if you have low speed on you internet service than speed issues is probably due to it downloading updates in the background.

I went through the same issue of upgrading hassles. Make sure you have a fast internet connection. windows 8.1 has a few enhancement over 8.0 (which comes with the laptop) and some bug fixes. Make sure you have registered the computer with windows/Microsoft first. I saw the same 0% issue several times. Make sure screen saver is turned off while attempting to update (I saw it come on in the middle of update and when I logged back in, update had failed). Also, my internet connection is slow, so I had to go to a friends house (who has fast internet) to do the update. I feel your pain...been there...done that...hated it!!! I am glad I went through the pain, because I am happy with the system now.

Windows 8.1 update is available through the app store. For the wifi, check the lenovo website for a new wifi driver once you have windows 8 installed. I have not had any issue with the wifi disconnecting, but an updated driver may help your situation.

My experience has been that when I turn the wifi connection off, it last close to 8 hours. With the wifi on, it has lasted me around 4 hours. I red that the time variable can also be influenced by what you have plugged into the USB ports. For example, plugging an external hard drive can increase the battery usage thereby shortening time. I usually use Bluetooth devices so that has also influenced the rate of battery life.

I've owned my Lenovo Yoga 2 2-in-1 for two months now, and on a full charge, with screen brightness at 100%, I regularly get about 5-6 hours of battery life. Over time, the battery might not perform as well, and at lower screen brightness, it will last longer. The screen at 100% brightness is actually very very bright! :-)

I have been able to get eight hours on full charge with fairly heavy use in Office, surfing, blogging and listening to music while I work. I do NOT have the screen brightness at min - I have it at 60% (anything less is simply too dark for me...).

Granted, your use may be different than mine however, this is the first hybrid 2-n-1 that has given me this kind of battery life. (Previous owner of the HP X2, 11.6 <~~ HORRIBLE battery life!).

The Lenovo Yoga 2 11.6" touch screen laptop in question does not have backlog keyboard. The Lenovo Yoga 2 - 13" and Yoga 2 Pro models DO have the backlit keyboard.
