Hi this is Jessica with Dyson Customer Service.The DC40 Origin is equipped with a brush bar that is intended for use on rugs and carpets. However, the DC40 Origin is engineered for use on both hard floors and carpets. The brush bar can be turned off with the touch of a button when it is time to transition to hard surface and delicate flooring. Although we do not anticipate you will encounter any problems we do encourage you to consult with your flooring manufacturer for their guidelines regarding proper maintenance of their product.

Yes, it has some tools. Don't know what it's called but it has one of those long snout attachments and it has a brush that can be attached to that. It also has a couple of other attachments but we got it mainly for our carpets.by

The DC50 is equipped with a unique brush bar. The brush bar features carbon fiber bristles that improve pick up across all floor types, including hard surface flooring such as tile.

The DC40 is designed for use on multiple floor types and the brush bar can be turned on and off with a press of a button. We recommend turning the brush bar off when vacuuming delicate rugs, looped carpeting and bare floors.
