A:

You ALWAYS put a signal amplifier at the source, in this case the antenna. Signal is lost from the antenna to the end connected to the TV, and thus there is more "noise." You want to amplifier the strongest signal you can, not the weaker, "noisier" signal. Therefore, the amplifier goes at the antenna, not the TV.

A:

Antenna wire will connect to the single INPUT port. The four output ports are for four tv. If you have one tv, connect your wire from port #1 your tv.
Some say cap the unused ports with 75 ohm termination resistors.

I am using this with an antenna mounted in the attic. I was getting some weak signal depending on time of day, weather, etc. The coax run is about 60 feet. Adding this amplifier improved the signal. But read on...
I did a little experimenting when I first hooked it up (about 2 months ago). At first I installed the amplifier close to the tv end of the coax. It did not make the reception better. Then I installed it in the coax line close to the antenna. THAT made the signal stronger. And in doing a little more research with a friend, he tells me that what he has read is that you need the amplifier as close to the antenna as possible, especially if there is a long length of coax between the antenna and the tv. My situation proved that to be true. But they don't really mention that in the instructions. The problem in my case was to get a/c power to an outlet in the attic. To test it, for several weeks I had an extension cord run up through the attic hatch. I have since run a permanent romex wire and receptacle. I must say that this amplifier DID improve my signal. I would recommend.

Make sure it's plugged up. If you don't see the red light lit up then it doesn't have power and won't work correctly.

A:

Yes- that's what it's designed to do. Splitting your signal weakens it. If your signal is already decent, this will boost it before sending it out to different rooms and/or devices.

I connected three tvs. I had bought 3 flat antennas for three tvs and was ok with result but not thrilled. I bought the rocketfish and connected 3 tvs to just one antenna and returned the other 2 and my reception is great and I saved over $100 returning the other antennas. I can't see why 4 would be any worse. I had to move the antenna several times and put it in the basement by a window on the south wall to get great results. Good luck. My tvs are all flat screens. one 55 inch one 50 inch and one 32 inch

It has four outputs. I am using two TV's on mine. One Samsung smart tv and other analog with converter box. Both work well with this.

More than likely yes. It will depend on how strong the signal is. As long as you have a strong enough signal, you can split it between 4 TV's with this.

No signal once powered up...

Q:

So I have all coaxes plugged in, and when I connect with the AC power cord, the LED lights up red, but then I lose all signals to each of the 4 lines plugged in to it. It works okay when not powered with AC, but once I plug in AC, the signal to the TV drops out.

Any ideas?

A:

You have to be careful not to overpower your TV receiver. An amp with adjustable gain is probably what you're looking for based on what you are saying. Just a hair too strong a signal will overdrive the receiver. if you could turn the gain down in very small steps it might solve the problem. You need a whole different amp and just work with one leg of your system at a time.ie: Run an RF amp from the antenna to a passive splitter and then out to your TVs. Put the amp as close to the antenna as possible. Noise gets into the cable as it moves away from the antenna and your amp boosts everything that goes into it. Noise in, Noise out. Based on what your saying your amplified splitter could be overachieving. Engineering this stuff is hard if you aren't an antenna guy. There is a guy called the antenna man on you tube who is really good

A:

Did you down-load all of your channels on your TV?. This must be done for each and every TV you have hooked-up to the Amplifier.
1)First the Antenna must be aimed - like where do your main signals come from? So do a search for Transmitter locations by going to https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-location. It locates it by Zip code and how high your antenna is located. So if you're on the 3rd floor of your house - and you mounted the antenna in your attic just say (30 feet). You will get a read out and it will suggest the antenna you should pick for your area. I did not choose what they recommended - I chose CLEARSTREAM 2V.
2) once you aim the antenna - and run your cables to the amplifier in-locations, and a cable to your antenna, plug it in. If you don't have an AC adaptor - you probably threw it out with the package. All amplifiers come with an adaptor. Best Buys products, especially Rocketfish all have an AC adapter. That's why they call it a powered amplifier. (electricity). The package it comes in is small and the adapter is small., but everything is in one box. Open it up in the store first in front of the sales person so you both know it's there. 3) 3rd step down load your channels on your TV or your Digital converter box (maybe both if TV is new) - because it has to pick up the signals from the Antenna you just Aimed. New location or new Antenna - new download of channels is always required. Make sure you secure the antenna after its aimed properly so you don't have to do this task over again. 4) make sure amplifier is plugged in to an outlet and that outlet has electrical power going to it - use a table lamp if need be. Good luck - I got 66 channels - but the amplifier must be powered-up!

Check to make sure you have the correct cable coming into the input port.
That input cable should not have a pre amp in it. That pre amp may have
A negative effect on you new amplifier. You just may have a bad unit.

Apparently the component connection to Out 1/PWR IN has DC current power flowing thru it. Some components connected by coaxial cable have and provide DC power. Most do not though. Maybe yours does this and that is why it works. If so, you would not need the AC adapter connected to power the amplifier.

I would double check to make sure you have the right line going to the "input". Cable from your antenna should be connected to input, and cable from the amplifier output should run to your device or TV. To some people this is counter intuitive. This may explain why you had signal when the amplifier was passive (not powered) but lost it when you plugged in the AC.

The way to test it to see if it is working properly is to disconnect one of the outbound cables. If the light stays on, then you know it's working. If the light goes out, then most likely the unit is defective and needs to replaced.

It is DC current power. Some components have this feature. Then you would not need to use the included AC adapter. Most components connected to this amplifier do not have DC current flowing thru the coaxial cable connection. The AC plug in is needed then.

If you didn't want to use the #1 output, you could just wire it to +12V, positive center to that jack. If you still wanted to use all of the jacks, you'd need a power inserter like a Sonora HRFPI or a Holland HR PI-BW.

Out1/PWR IN Jack What is the significance of this jack from Out2/3/4?

Q:

Maybe I did not ask this question correctly, because of the answer I received. I am well aware that the other output jacks are for connecting more devices. My question is, since Out1/PWR Jack has "PWR" and the other ouptputs do not have "PWR", what makes OUT1/PWR differnent since "PWR" is not part other outs name?

The Out 1/PWR IN refers to having DC current power to this nice amplifier through the coaxial cable connection of certain components. However most components do not provide this DC current power. Then you would need to power the amplifier with the included AC adapter. You would connect a quality Rg-6 cable, say from your outside antenna, to the input on the amplifier and then connect components (tv's etc.) to Outs 1 thru 4. If your component connected to Out 1 does not provide DC power, then you would use the included AC power adapter.

The OUT1/PWR is the coaxial connection that it uses to draw its power. Make sure that you are using this jack first because this is how the splitter will get its power to operate.

Difference between the RF-G1179 and the RF-G1178

Q:

I have a bunch of cable drops in my house and have been using the RF-G1178 and it's been great for boost throughout house. I've got one cable box that may need a little boost because all of the features are not available from the cable box. The RF-G1178 is discontinued. So, are these basically used for same thing? But the RF-G1179 will boost 4 things and not just one?

If TV antenna is aimed properly - it will boost the power via the AC Adaptor to RF-G1179. I get 66 channels on four TV's and one CLEARSTREAM 2V antenna as the main source. Must make sure adaptor is plugged in on your RF-G1179 amplifier and you must down-load your channels through each and every TV you have hooked up. My longest length of RG6 cable is about 25 to 30 feet for 3 TV's for the fourth TV the cable is 10 feet long - great clarity on all TV's. I get 8 PBS channels great stuff on these channels, especially Austin City Limits on Saturday night. I even pick-up three Baltimore channels (100 miles from my house but normally its either early in the morning or late at night).

Great Antenna, great amplifier. Check out antennasdirect.com on the Web Site. Use your Zip code for Transmitter locations. You can also get a TV Guide for these stations. PBS technicians told me about this great resource. I did not choose their recommended antenna. I am very happy with CLEARSTREAM 2V which has great reviews.
