Excellent Product

I bought the OOMA over a month ago and just got my old phone ported. I have the device on the router and not in front of the router. This set up for me is preferred since if the OOMA goes out, the entire home network goes out. I have found no delays or problems using it this way.
The calls are clear and I have had just one network issue where the call had a slight delay-echo. This went away after a few seconds.
I also opted-in to the OOMA Premiere for a year which is an additional $120 (more or less) per year. That is the total cost to run the OOMA. I figured out that in 8 months I will have paid for the OOMA and then start saving about $40 a month on phone service.
I also went to cable network since DSL here is just plain lousy. It did feel good to get rid of our substandard phone company who really could care less about any issues you have. Not that cable is some queen of the highway.
Setup is easy and there were no real issues. There are a lot of tweaks you can do with Voicemail including linking it to Google Voice or just having the message sent to you via email. Or just letting your OOMA get it. You can also put your own answering machine on, but that makes calls NOT go to your voice mail.. at least that is what happened to me.
Check out the forums at OOMA and see what is going on. The customer service is MUCH better, too.
What's great about it: No expensive phone bill, free long distance to USA/Canada
What's not so great: Can be confusing to configure if you have limited tech knowledge.
I would recommend this to a friend!

WORKS FOR ME!!
By SeattleZach from Seattle, WA
This is a great little device. I had this plugged in to my DSL router in 5 minutes and started receiving calls about 10 minutes after opening the box. That is fast and easy. Honestly .. this reminds me on an Apple product ... simple - straighforward - easy.
For the folks who say, "Ir doesnt' work for me" you may wish to check your broadband connectivity. Just because you have DSL or Cable doesn't mean this will work for you.
With my non-scientifific research, I'm guessing you'll need AT LEAST 1.5 Mpbs downstream and 512 kpbs per second upstream to get a realible connection. I have 7Mmps downstream, so Im OK.
Works great .. I would recommend this to all my friends and family! Good bye phone bill!

QOS is more important than raw speed
October 8, 2010
If you have good QOS at 1.5Mbps, this VOIP device works well. I did upgrade to 3 Mbps and didn't notice any difference. I can, however, download a movie much faster.

are new routers compatible with windows7

are new routers compatible with windows 7
Windows or any other OS will not even see a router. The router is separate. All you need is any browser to access the router. There is no need for plug-ins or additional things.

Google TV

Is there a subscription for Google TV? If so, the price per month.
Thanks.
Google TV has no fee because they don't provide anything per se. You will probably have to purchase Hulu and other networks. I don't think it will be more that plain cable or satellite.

I am holding off for this reason.

does geeksquad have a service to install antenna's?

My husbands a little leery about installing a "whole house" antenna either in our attic or on our roof. We've looked around, but I thought I would look here too since we are not having much luck. Does BB/GS offer this service alongside their home theater installation?

thanks,
mel
I would hire a contractor that does roofing. They usually know where you could put the antenna. I don't think GS would do this because it is not listed in services they offer. You could just call GS and ask, however.

I have a Philips television that keeps cutting off how do I stop this?

My first inclination is that it is overheating. If it has adequate ventilation, then you have a defective tele.

What rotor do I use to hook up direct tv to internet and how?

Where doe's the rotor go? By the computer motem?I have direct tv dvr hd receiver. And want to hook it up to my internet , wired. What kind of rotor do I get?Would I put the ethernet cable to the motem then the rotor and then hook up the dtv and computer to the rotor? Can someone help??
You mean ROUTER, I assume? There are some instructions with the router and you also fail to say what model of router. That being said, hook your internet cable that comes from your Cable or DSL Box directly into the router. Then, hook your PC or DirectV to the router. The router will have distinctive labeling where to put the Cable/DSL Modem. Again, it helps if you provide a bit more information. Try reading the manual if all else fails. Obviously the internet has to be co-located by the Directv box.

I rent a DVR from Cox Cable. Do you have a device to which I can save programs that I record to CD?

You can't record from DVR to CD. For one thing, the video won't fit on CD.
I have seen stand-alone Blu Ray recorders, but not at Best Buy. That is what you would want to get but be prepared to pay $$. Also prepare for the fact that some shows are copy protected and can't easily be copied.

If you get mobil broadband do you have to get a seperate internet services for your homebase computer ( desktop.)

I'm thinking about getting mobil broadband for my laptop,( i have wirless now) , but I also have a desktop comp.and I don't want two bills, so this is my question. Do I need two seperate internet services.
All you need is a USB port and you can use Mobile BB on any computer. I would keep a close eye on the data usage.
