I bought the OOMA over a month ago and just got my old phone ported. I have the device on the router and not in front of the router. This set up for me is preferred since if the OOMA goes out, the entire home network goes out. I have found no delays or problems using it this way.
The calls are clear and I have had just one network issue where the call had a slight delay-echo. This went away after a few seconds.
I also opted-in to the OOMA Premiere for a year which is an additional $120 (more or less) per year. That is the total cost to run the OOMA. I figured out that in 8 months I will have paid for the OOMA and then start saving about $40 a month on phone service.
I also went to cable network since DSL here is just plain lousy. It did feel good to get rid of our substandard phone company who really could care less about any issues you have. Not that cable is some queen of the highway.
Setup is easy and there were no real issues. There are a lot of tweaks you can do with Voicemail including linking it to Google Voice or just having the message sent to you via email. Or just letting your OOMA get it. You can also put your own answering machine on, but that makes calls NOT go to your voice mail.. at least that is what happened to me.
Check out the forums at OOMA and see what is going on. The customer service is MUCH better, too.
What's great about it: No expensive phone bill, free long distance to USA/Canada
What's not so great: Can be confusing to configure if you have limited tech knowledge.
I would recommend this to a friend!

WORKS FOR ME!!
By SeattleZach from Seattle, WA
This is a great little device. I had this plugged in to my DSL router in 5 minutes and started receiving calls about 10 minutes after opening the box. That is fast and easy. Honestly .. this reminds me on an Apple product ... simple - straighforward - easy.
For the folks who say, "Ir doesnt' work for me" you may wish to check your broadband connectivity. Just because you have DSL or Cable doesn't mean this will work for you.
With my non-scientifific research, I'm guessing you'll need AT LEAST 1.5 Mpbs downstream and 512 kpbs per second upstream to get a realible connection. I have 7Mmps downstream, so Im OK.
Works great .. I would recommend this to all my friends and family! Good bye phone bill!

QOS is more important than raw speed
October 8, 2010
If you have good QOS at 1.5Mbps, this VOIP device works well. I did upgrade to 3 Mbps and didn't notice any difference. I can, however, download a movie much faster.

Which is better Plasma or LED-LCD?

While this question is a matter of personal preference, I would pick the LED backlit over ANY other current technology. It is just the sharpest, clearest picture you can have. Plasmas seem to be going away, but they have a great picture also. I just thought that the LED backlit was superb.

I am looking for a 19" flat panel TV for the bedroom. We also use our flat screen 13" as an alarm clock. Is there a flat panel 19" that has ON & OFF

Most monitors with a tuner have a timer, but you would have to look at the specs and those are available on the BB site.

Can the antena thread on my samsung 27" tv be repaired?

The antenea thread on my tv came off when I was trying to unscrew the cable from it. Is that something that I can fix myself or is it something that I have to have someone come fix it for me.
Janet, see if you can get a friend to look at it for you. It sounds minor but without a picture, it is hard to say if you need a technician to come out to you. I know it's darn expensive, so get a friend to help you out. Good luck!

sprint overdrive and internet connectivity with tv and blu-ray

I am considering buying a Sprint overdrive and using this as my source for Wi-Fi for my internet connected TV and blu-ray player at home. I will have access to 4g at home. Will this work? Is there enough bandwith?
I would expect that to work, but it depends on where you are. If you are close to a cell tower, it shouldn't be an issue. The band width should be enough and I think you could use a buffer that comes with most internet broadcasts anyway. I know HULU allows a buffer to load as well as Itunes. Just make sure you have a solid data plan and there are no caps placed on how much you can download bc HDTV is extreme data download.

s there a DVD VcR player for none diginal TVS?

i CURRENTLY HAVE AN OLDER NON DIDGINALTV AND WOULD LIKE TO BUY A NEW DVD VCR PLAYER. ARE THEY AVAILABLE?.
You would need RCA inputs on the TV. If they are not there, then most DVD players don' t have RF out. However, you could Google it.

I have an RCA L32HD35D Model # 32LA30RQD has sound no picture. This seems to be a common problem in this model. How much to repair it please ?

Kathy, I think it is defective and would not be worth the price to fix. Most repairs cost over $100 just to get into them. Most techs would tell you to replace it. When you do get a new one, buy a protection program for it but look around the internet for protection plans.

I want to buy a receiver for my satellite system. Do you sell them:

I want to buy a Motorala DSR 209 receiver used for the Star Choice (Shaw TV) satellite system.
Using this new-fangled thing called the INTERNET, and using this other GOOGLE thing, I found one in 5 seconds.

What do I need to transfer audio from cassetts to CDs?

You could plug the Cassette player into a computer using an RCA to 3.5" male stereo. You can get Audacity sound editor for free and then run the cable from the player to your line-in on the computer. Don't use the MIC in bc that is an amplified signal and it won't work very well. Once you record the cassette to the computer you can make a CD or MP3 of it. You also need a CD burner with software to make Audio CD's

How do I fix my picture from bending?

My 50" Samsung DLP picture has started to bend. Any tickers running across the bottom of the screen are no longer visible and when there are solid black bars on the left and right of the picture, they are bowed.
Sounds like the mirrors need adjusting. I would call for service because this is a delicate operation.
