I bought the OOMA over a month ago and just got my old phone ported. I have the device on the router and not in front of the router. This set up for me is preferred since if the OOMA goes out, the entire home network goes out. I have found no delays or problems using it this way.
The calls are clear and I have had just one network issue where the call had a slight delay-echo. This went away after a few seconds.
I also opted-in to the OOMA Premiere for a year which is an additional $120 (more or less) per year. That is the total cost to run the OOMA. I figured out that in 8 months I will have paid for the OOMA and then start saving about $40 a month on phone service.
I also went to cable network since DSL here is just plain lousy. It did feel good to get rid of our substandard phone company who really could care less about any issues you have. Not that cable is some queen of the highway.
Setup is easy and there were no real issues. There are a lot of tweaks you can do with Voicemail including linking it to Google Voice or just having the message sent to you via email. Or just letting your OOMA get it. You can also put your own answering machine on, but that makes calls NOT go to your voice mail.. at least that is what happened to me.
Check out the forums at OOMA and see what is going on. The customer service is MUCH better, too.
What's great about it: No expensive phone bill, free long distance to USA/Canada
What's not so great: Can be confusing to configure if you have limited tech knowledge.
I would recommend this to a friend!

WORKS FOR ME!!
By SeattleZach from Seattle, WA
This is a great little device. I had this plugged in to my DSL router in 5 minutes and started receiving calls about 10 minutes after opening the box. That is fast and easy. Honestly .. this reminds me on an Apple product ... simple - straighforward - easy.
For the folks who say, "Ir doesnt' work for me" you may wish to check your broadband connectivity. Just because you have DSL or Cable doesn't mean this will work for you.
With my non-scientifific research, I'm guessing you'll need AT LEAST 1.5 Mpbs downstream and 512 kpbs per second upstream to get a realible connection. I have 7Mmps downstream, so Im OK.
Works great .. I would recommend this to all my friends and family! Good bye phone bill!

QOS is more important than raw speed
October 8, 2010
If you have good QOS at 1.5Mbps, this VOIP device works well. I did upgrade to 3 Mbps and didn't notice any difference. I can, however, download a movie much faster.

Looking for a 50" plasma tv with bose entertainment system

I am looking for a 50" plasma tv with bose 3-2-1 entertainment system?
Then go buy a 50" plasma and also buy a Bose 1-2-3. They don't come together unless the store has some special package.

ipad set up for wi fi

my 64 3g will not connect me to my home network other equipments are workimg good with it
any special settings?
There have been a lot of issues with this and the Ipad. Usually it is because the setting on the router are incorrect. Try these things in order:

1. Update the Ipad to IOS the latest version with Itunes.
2. Shut it completely off and turn it back on or do a full reset of the Ipad.
3. Delete all the internet connections on the Ipad if they are stored.
4. Configure your home router to WPA2 security and enter a new password on the router.
5. Try to reconnect the Ipad back to your home network after you have done all this reset stuff.

You should join Mac Forums (google it) and you can see that there are quite a few people with this problem. However, it is usually due to the setup of the router.

Lastly, if all else fails you can remove security from the Wireless router and see if the Ipad connects.

It's broke and if not under some warranty is probably too expensive to fix. You get what you pay for.

SONY HAS NO BRIGHTNESS

I have a Sony Wega 55" rear projection tv bought in March 2006 and have replaced the bulb twice already . The main problem is you have to watch it in a darkend room ,and even then the pic is dull and not very bright ,if a program is a night sceen forget it , you can hardly make out the figures on the screen . I've tried adjusting the controls but no luck ,what's wrong.,
Sounds like your driver electronics are bad.

Green/Orange/Black to optical cable device?

I own a Logetich x-530 surround sound system and a Samsung px2370 monitor.
Basically I have my 360 elite hooked up via HDMI to the computer monitor. The newer elite doesn't have an optical cable hookup but my monitor does. My computer's surround sound system connects by those Green/orange/ black hookups. I want to know if an adapter, or any other device exists that would let me connect those 3 cables to the optical cable so i can get 5.1 surround on my 360 games. It would work like this: HDMI cable from 360 to monitor, optical cable from monitor to Logetich x--530 via some kind of device. Thanks.
Nope, it can't be done. Optical uses a laser or LED to transmit the sound. The regular RCA cables are standard analog.

Does rear speaker wireless mean that you still have to run wires to the other speakers on the wall?

Yes, only the rear speaker is wireless. This is because most people put the rear speaker behind them, therefore the name "REAR SPEAKER".

You can get an entirely wireless system but I have not seen one that is as good as a wired. There may be some very expensive wireless speakers that can go 5.1... but I have not seen any.

My LCD Keeps getting a red tint!

I have a 60 in Samsung LCD and it keeps getting deep red colors and a red tint to the screen. I have a DVR and an XBOX360 hooked up. I have changed out the cables for new ones and used every port and the same issue keeps happening. Samsung support tells me to do a factory reset but that only fixes things for a short while. Most of the time it seems like it only starts when I use my Xbox. Does anyone know whats going on with this thing?
Sounds like you have a defective monitor. I would suspect that the RGB driver controller card has failed.. There is no fix for that. To be sure, you could plug another monitor into your Xbox to make sure it is not the Xbox.
I would ask a friend to help you out and try another monitor. This would prove that the monitor is bad... or not.

Need to connect MacBook to LCD TV

Hello,

Looking for the right cable to connect my MacBook to my LG LCD TV. Thinking an HDMI cable may do the trick? (which I can also connect from cable box to TV, right?) But I have also heard I may need a VGA cable?
If your MacBook has Display Port out, then get a DP-to-HDMI adapter. You still would have to run the sound on a different cable.

IF you use VGA, the max resolution would be 720p, which may be fine for you. Again, a separate audio cable would be needed.

I have poor eyesight what type of hdtv has the clearest picture

I would get a monitor with LED backlit. They are about 50% brighter than regular LCD. To be sure, take a visit to any computer store that sells LED backlit monitors. You can see the difference across the room. They are nothing short of spectacular.
