This Aerosmith album, "Pump" is a solid Hard Rock winner the entire way through! Originally released in 1989, Aerosmith catapulted to the top of the Rock charts with the singles "Love In An Elevator", "Janie's Got A Gun", "The Other Side" and "What It Takes". Every song here is pure Hard Rock, good time Aerosmith fun! Every song is a winner on "Pump", the non charting songs are just as good and Rockin' as the hits. "Young Lust" and "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" are revved up Rockers. It is unfair to compare the Aerosmith of the late 1980's to their music from the 1970's, you are hearing an entirely different dynamic all around. The Hard Rock and heavy clarity, that mixes with the slower beats, gel together perfectly throughout this album. These lyrics on "Pump" are what Rock N' Roll is all about, tongue in cheek, fun and relationships. The loud, stomping beats of "Pump" never lets down, I consider this album one of my favorite Aerosmith titles that they have done. There is only one Steven Tyler, on vocals he is the driving force of Aerosmith along with lead guitarist Joe Perry. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are a legendary Hard Rock dynamic duo! Brad Whitford on guitar, Tom Hamilton on bass and Joey Kramer on drums rounds out this Aerosmith lineup on "Pump". Allow yourself the freedom to get pumped up by Aerosmith, you will be glad you did!
If you are a new listener to Aerosmith, "Pump" is an excellent invitation for you to dive right into the extensive catalog of albums Aerosmith has to offer. This is a Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame band, a Hard Rock group that has always led, never followed.
What's great about it: Great hits, every song is a winner, Hall of Fame Hard Rock!!

"Fiend Club Lounge" is creepy instrumental sounds!

I am a fan of the Misfits, therefore anything that is Misfits related, I buy. Enter "Misfits Meet the Nutley Brass", man this stuff is unlike anything I have ever heard before in my entire Metal life. The Nutley Brass is the musical creations by Sam Elwitt. This tribute music is so strange, so sinister in it's unique simplistic form, that it is down right eerie. Basically, it is the "Twilight Zone" meets "Star Trek" meets "The Munsters" if you are looking at a musical score to compare to. Even then, you need to add a scary basement lounge atmosphere with some macabre organ music and you have a pretty good example of what this CD sounds like. There are no vocals, only strings and other imaginative sounds to entertain you silly. Do not forget that this music is all covers of Misfits classics, "Astro Zombies", "Skulls", "Hybrid Moments" and "Where Angels Dare" will never be the same again. Overall, this music sounds very science fiction, like a melancholy day dream gone astray. This stuff is so different it is good, it makes for a very unique listen between my Power Metal and Death Metal moods. I found this musical tribute to the Misfits to be fun, I really cannot predict how other listeners will react to this. I recommend that all Misfits fans buy this, heck anyone looking for real spooky, space travel, atmospheric tunes will love this stuff.
The executive producers are John Cafiero (Osaka Popstar) and the legendary Jerry Only himself. The liner notes are 8 pages of extended artwork, plus a written background about the Nutley Brass by Sam Elwitt and John Cafiero.
What's great about it: A musical tribute to the Misfits, strange & eerie musical sound scape!

The world of Heavy Metal knows that the words melodic and heavy do coexist and have coexisted since early Black Sabbath. Despite what some professional critics might say, melodic Heavy Metal exists and is well represented by many Metal bands of all Metal genres. Step in please, Amon Amarth! "Twilight Of The Thundergod" is melodic & heavy Death Metal that embodies the lyrics of cool Viking tales and lore. The Viking, Melodic & Heavy Death Metal is pronounced with authority here, Amon Amarth has created an undisputedly awe inspiring arrangement of songs with this album. The lyrics are intelligent and fun with riffs galore, thunderous blast beats and chugging, growling vocals. Apocalyptica performs beautifully on "Live For The Kill". Yes, the word beautiful can be attributed here, it is o.k. to have cellos appear in Heavy Metal. When arrangements allow, you can create any kind of incredible Metal, music is truly infinite and Amon Amarth have proven this. Roope Latvala appears on "Twilight Of The Thundergod", carving into this song an amazing solo that enhances the total heavy musical structure. I most highly recommend "Twilight Of The Thundergod" to all Metal fans worldwide! Listen and enjoy the melodic heaviness of this Death Metal band. Amon Amarth gets my standing ovation for this album, it definitely is one of the best Metal albums of 2008 and mightily one of the heaviest as well.
Amon Amarth is: Johan Hegg on vocals, Olavi Mikkonen on guitar, Ted Lundstrom on bass, Johan Soderberg on guitar and Fredrik Andersson on drums.
What's great about it: Melodic & heavy Death Metal, a ton of fun lyrics, great guest musicians!!

Velvet Revolver unloads it's supergroup Hard Rock!

"Libertad" is the second album from the Hard Rock supergroup, Velvet Revolver. Man, can these guys put down some Hard Rock grooves! Every song, all 13 of them, are not just cool and catchy, they are true Hard Rock songs that sound great. Scott Weiland will always have his recognizable vocals, yet he does not sound like he is fronting Stone Temple Pilots here at all. The same goes for Slash on guitar, Duff McKagan on bass and Matt Sorum on drums, all three have their unique styles, yet you know this is not Guns N' Roses! Velvet Revolver has done a fantastic job at creating their own sound, it is downright heavy groove inflicted and hard on the heavy beats. "Let It Roll", "She Mine", and "She Builds Quick Machines" are three tunes that establish the quick flowing rhythm and Hard Rock sound, while keeping an up tempo throughout. Overall, "Libertad" does not sound as polished as you would expect from a supergroup like this. These guys play tight, yet there is an air of raw energy that filters through each song, this only enhances the total Hard Rock and heavy vibe that borders on Metal with "Libertad". Frankly, it is a satisfying relief to not have a crystal clean production and sound from Velvet Revolver, this album would not be as awesome if it did. Velvet Revolver does an unreal cover of the Electric Light Orchestra classic, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head". Scott Weiland is simply super on vocals throughout "Libertad", yet on this ELO cover, wow. I do not want to overlook Dave Kushner on guitar, he too is a talent and key member of this group. Liberate yourself and pick up "Libertad", you will become a Velvet Revolver fan, guaranteed.
The liner notes are a hit, with 12 pages of expanded artwork, lyrics, individual photos of each band member, and credits.
What's great about it: Slash on guitar, Scott Weiland on vocals, GREAT songs! Rocks heavy!

I, without a single doubt in my mind, whole heartedly recommend without a twinge of hesitation, Edguy and their release "Mandrake". This is glorious, powerful, uplifting, pump you up to the Metal maximum, Power Metal!! This album is as great as it gets with Edguy and/or Power Metal. Tobias Sammet is totally remarkable, his high notes and melodic vocals are the cause of the psych you out shivers I get, up and down my arms and face, as I listen to "Mandrake". To make the entire Edguy "Mandrake" experience even more incredible is the keyboards, guitars and rhythm section that blends together this epic Metal music. If you are a fan of Helloween or any European Power Metal, this is as legitimate as you will ever hear for this genre. "Tears Of A Mandrake" is over 7 minutes long, once you get into this song you will agree it is not long enough! "The Pharaoh" is over 10 minutes long, once again this song can play on and leave you in awe! "Mandrake" will have you so engrossed into the music, the lyrics and total power of Edguy that you will actually need to devour it again and again! Every song is beyond excellent, I am truly endorsing an album here that is feverishly addicting Power Metal on high! I cannot rant & rave forever about Edguy and "Mandrake", take my advice when I say each musician in Edguy is talented and gifted at what they do. "Mandrake was released in 2001, what is scary is that Edguy gets better with each future album release. Tobias Sammet is in my opinion, THE Power Metal singer of today, his writing of music and lyrics are second to none in ALL of Metal. Once you buy "Mandrake" and listen to it in it's entirety, do not thank me, thank Edguy for creating this powerful stuff.
Edguy is: Tobias Sammet on vocals, Jens Ludwig on guitar, Dirk Sauer on guitar, Tobias "Eggi" Exxel on bass and Felix Bohnke on drums. The liner notes are absolutely intense, with 14 pages of expanded artwork, 6 band photos, a two page center spread depicting each band member in separate photos, LYRICS, yes lyrics! Plus plenty of credits and thank yous.
What's great about it: Tobias Sammet on vocals! Every song, each musician in Edguy can play!!

Bullet Boys are a Hair Metal band that played hard and delivered a pretty good debut album here. I bought this album for the consistent heavy tunes, although I am not too fond of "For The Love Of Money", this song seems to drag on a tad too long. "Smooth Up In Ya" and "Shoot The Preacher Down" are two songs that really highlight this album and showcase the talents of the Bullet Boys. "Smooth Up In Ya" is carried high by the vocals of Marq Torien, it is melodic and heavy, a Metal anthem that will never get rusty. "Shoot The Preacher Down" indicates just how heavy and fast the Bullet Boys could really play, this song is downright good. Marq Torien gives the Bullet Boys the rightful Metal attitude with his colorful vocals, you can hear his swagger and pride for the music he sings. Mick Sweda on guitar and backing vocals plays some really cool and memorable riffs and solos. Lonnie Vencent on bass and Jimmy D'Anda round out the Bullet Boys lineup for their hard hitting debut. I recommend this debut release from the Bullet Boys to all Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fans worldwide.
This first album by the Bullet Boys was produced by Ted Templeman, who produced some incredible Van Halen and Doobie Brothers music in his day. The overall production on this album shines here due to the genius of Ted Templeman.
What's great about it: Hair Metal that Rocks heavy, cool vocals, "Smooth Up In Ya" is best track

Dee Snider has been and still is a standup and loyal spokesman for Heavy Metal. I will forever appreciate everything Dee Snider and Twisted Sister have done for Heavy Metal, this is why I bought "Big Hits and Nasty Cuts". This album is more than a greatest hits, there are 6 live songs here as well, highlighted by the cover of the Rolling Stones "It's Only Rock 'N" Roll". This song is saturated with the sound and vibe of Twisted Sister, Dee Snider gives this Rock classic Metal attitude. The commercial success tunes are here, yet the real deep album cuts that Rock the house down are present as well. "You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll", "Under The Blade", "Shoot 'Em Down", "I Am (I'm Me) and "The Kids Are Back". Twisted Sister gives you the Metal loud and proud with a hint of sinister fun. The live songs are unedited and give you a nice taste of how Dee Snider carries a crowd, you can feel and hear the intensity and excitement build throughout each live song. I recommend this legendary Metal band by the name of Twisted Sister to anyone who wants to listen to great Rock N' Roll. "Big Hits and Nasty Cuts" is a must addition to all Twisted Sister music collections and Metal collections alike. Dee Snider and Twisted Sister are forever champions of Metal!
Twisted Sister is: Dee Snider on lead vocals, Jay Jay French on lead, rhythm guitar and vocals, Eddie Ojeda on lead, rhythm guitar and vocals, Mark "The Animal" Mendoza on bass and vocals and A.J. Pero on drums and vocals. The liner notes do not have lyrics. Song credits, credits and a one page, black & white photo collage of Twisted Sister make up the liner notes. The photo collage shows Twisted Sister band photos from 1977 to 1987.
What's great about it: Twisted Sister, every song, 16 songs! 6 songs are live!

What I need to start with, is that Jimi Hendrix, in my opinion, created the theory and sound of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal we all enjoy today. "Experience Hendrix" is 20 songs that are so incredibly historical to Rock N' Roll, these songs will live on forever! Jimi Hendrix gave his guitar a voice, I always listen with awe and glee to any and all of these songs. To anyone unfamiliar with Jimi Hendrix, please buy this album and know you will not be disappointed. Jimi Hendrix and his music are extremely relevant to todays Rock, every genre has taken something from Jimi Hendrix to create the music we here today. "Angel" is my favorite Jimi Hendrix song ever, yet every song ever created by this legend is a music lesson of extreme and elite greatness. With these songs, you also are treated to the bonus of amazing musicians that helped to create this magic, The Jimi Hendrix Experience included: Mitch Mitchell on drums, Billy Cox on bass, Noel Redding on bass and Dave Mason lending a hand on acoustic guitar on "All Along The Watchtower". I whole heartedly recommend "Experience Hendrix" to anyone who loves music of any genre.
The liner notes are 22 pages of numerous Jimi Hendrix full color photos and an essay written for each song, which documents the history/behind the scenes of each song. John McDermott is credited with writing the essay. There are no lyrics in the liner notes.
What's great about it: Jimi Hendrix, his guitar playing, his voice, every song.

If you are looking to start a Great White collection of albums, this is an excellent start. "The Best Of" Great White mixes it up well with their classic Hard Rock/Metal hit "Rock Me", a cool cover of "Once Bitten Twice Shy" and the smooth ballad "Save Your Love". "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is done really well, as a live version it adds to the diverse flavor of this greatest hits. Great White always covers Led Zeppelin with the upmost respect and quality. Overall, the cover songs along with the original songs by Great White make "The Best Of" a very good value. I always feel the original Great White songs are excellent, even though they play & rock cover songs really well. Jack Russell has the Hard Rock/Metal soul & emotion in his voice that always leaves a cool and inspiring impression on me. I have no problem recommending "The Best Of" Great White to any fan of Rock & Roll, Hard Rock or Metal, Great White can easily be labeled onto any of these Rock genres, that is pretty cool.
There are no line notes enclosed with this CD. The back cover of this CD does have another group photo of Great White, definitely from the late 80's or early 90's.
What's great about it: Jack Russell on vocals, decent song selection

Testament's "The Formation Of Damnation" is one incredible wrecking ball of mind bending Thrash Metal! In my opinion, this album is one of the very best Metal albums released in 2008. This album is definitely worth the wait, Testament has proven they are stronger, play faster, and sound as great as ever before! "For The Glory Of..." is the intro that will take you by the hand and deliver you to the most intense set of Thrash Metal songs. "More Than Meets The Eye" is an unforgettable song, with its thundering and bombastic tempo, it is the strength of Chuck Billy's vocals that explode here. "The Evil Has Landed" is a reflective track about the horrific event of 911. The lyrics to this song are both powerful and patriotic. Testament lays it down very heavy throughout this album, again I cannot compliment Chuck Billy enough for his amazing Thrash and at times Death Metal vocals. I can hear the courage in Chuck Billy's voice throughout this entire album, he has a fan here for life. I will sum up the rest of the band with just one word, greatness. Testament justified the entire Metal world with "The Formation of Damnation".
Testament is: Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson on rhythm & lead guitars, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar, Paul Bostaph on drums and Greg Christian on bass guitar. The liner notes are incredible, with 20 pages of complete lyrics, extended artwork, individual band member photos, a two page band photo layout, credits and thank you's.
What's great about it: Chuck Billy on vocals, Alex & Eric on guitars! Every single song!
