Tom Jones sounds as vibrant, fresh, energetic and passionate as ever on "24 Hours". You still can hear the retrospective 1970's sound and feel it's vibe at times. That is in my opinion, a wonderful quality about Tom Jones, staying true to the original sound that has made him into a living legend of Contemporary, Pop and Rock music. There is an air of current sound and flavor here, "I'm Alive" is performed with a Rock & Roll beat that is downright groovy. The emphasis here is definitely the vocals, Tom Jones does not disappoint, he just thrills with his classic style and delivery. Tom Jones lends his writing to seven of the songs, exhibiting his talent and love for the song all the more. "We Got Love" and "Give A Little Love" are two tracks that will captivate your musical soul. The cool groove is definitely instilled in every song both vocally and musically. Tom Jones has proven he can still inspire and sing the lights out with "24 Hours".
The liner notes are 8 pages of complete lyrics and credits. Besides the cover photo, there is an additional current photo of Tom Jones in the liner notes.
What's great about it: Tom Jones and his vocals, on every song.

"Unholy Terror" by W.A.S.P. is a continuous Heavy Metal pummeling that does not give in, just relentlessly HEAVY music! My favorite track, "Wasted White Boys" is so intense, the guitar jamming here is something I never heard before on any W.A.S.P. album. This song is so great, I consider it to be among one of the greatest Metal tunes ever written! "Let It Roar" opens up "Unholy Terror", what an opener it is, heavy, heavy, heavy at every turn. This album essentially does roar, with pure Metal, the Blackie Lawless way. Blackie's vocals are intense and loud, he provides all the Metal energy that makes this album so great. "Unholy Terror" ranks right up there with the W.A.S.P. release "Dying For The World" in terms of total heaviness. I recommend "Unholy Terror" very highly to all Metal fans everywhere, you will not be disappointed. "Unholy Terror" will curb your Metal fix in milliseconds, W.A.S.P. has made it certain here!
What's great about it: Blackie Lawless on vocals, every song, REAL METAL!

When I purchased "Nostradamus", I knew I was not going to hear the "British Steel" or "Screaming For Vengeance" versions of Judas Priest. Based on pre-release Judas Priest interviews I read, I knew this release was going to be epic, and experimental. What I did not realize was just how powerful, how prolific of a masterpiece "Nostradamus" would be! The life story of Nostradamus is told here, through the masterful song writing and musical arrangements of Glenn Tipton, Rob Halford and K.K. Downing. Judas Priest does experiment with the music, yet it is done with such decadence, true musical genius and art in the arrangements of every song. You will hear plenty of chorus, orchestration and soft interludes and intros. However, Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, with their signature guitar sounds, bring this epic life story of Nostradamus to musical heights I never expected! Rob Halford gives the songs the deepest of emotional highs and lows, depending on the theme of the song itself. Rob Halford has elevated himself as a vocalist, with "Nostradamus" he is the premier, theatrical, Metal statesman. Musically, what Judas Priest accomplished here are moments of Heavy Metal, chilling, haunting melodies and orchestrations and moments of sadness where I truly became moved emotionally. "Lost Love" is one incredible, sorrowful song that really made an impact on me.
Each song leads into the next, a constant flow of continuous music. I most certainly will be listening to "Nostradamus" very often, the intricacies, innuendo, musical arrangements and lyrics are vast and need to be thoroughly enjoyed still. This is most definitely an album I will listen to and hear something new each time, a musical moment that I overlooked or just never caught with my ears before. Ian Hill on bass and Scott Travis on drums are not to be ignored, they too have contributed to "Nostradamus" flawlessly. I highly recommend "Nostradamus" to all Judas Priest fans, open minded Metal fans and anyone who wants to hear this story be told through Heavy Metal and beautiful music combined. I will applaud "Nostradamus" by Judas Priest for the rest of my life.
The liner notes are 24 pages of complete lyrics, a concise written history on the life of Nostradamus, extended artwork that is incredible and credits.
What's great about it: Musical arrangements, storytelling, lyrics, Rob Halford's vocals.

All That Remains "Overcome" is a Metal achievement

If Metalcore is the blend of all things great about the numerous genres of Heavy Metal, then All That Remains is simply great. On "Overcome" you will hear diversified vocals, from melodic to Death grinding and everything in between. Musically, All That Remains should hold their heads up sky high, they have established the fact they not only can play, they are a cohesive band that can air it out with the best of them! Oli Herbert is as complete a Metal guitarist you will ever here, this album is overflowing with his remarkable speed, leads, riffs, hooks and solos. A pure Metal delight to listen to Oli Herbert, WOW. As for the songs, not one filler here. Each song leads to the next with ferocity and aggressiveness that only enhances each second of this entire album. It is a good thing there is a melodic nature to All That Remains musically, otherwise this album would detonate from the extreme, blistering Metal and speed that fuels it! My favorite track here is "Days Without", it carries out the melodic vocals with aggressive Metal like no other song I have heard before. "Before The Damned" opens up "Overcome" with pure Metal efficiency, indicating that All That Remains is not messing around, no pretensions, just Metal. On "Relinquish", Philip Labonte is at his best vocally, lean, mean, and full throttle. Apparently, based on everything I have stated, it is my opinion that All That Remains "Overcome" is an excellent purchase and should be embraced by all Metal fans.
The liner notes are 12 pages of complete lyrics, with extended artwork and credits.
What's great about it: Oli Herbert on lead guitar! Diverse vocals, melodic & extreme Metal!

One of the best Kiss albums ever! This one Rocks!!

Kiss "Rock And Roll Over" was released on November 11, 1976. Wow, this music is so grand, it sounds so relevant to today's Hard Rock sound, it is hard to believe this album is 32 years old! This is by far one of the best Kiss albums ever released, in my humble opinion. Ownership of this album is an absolute must for Kiss, Hard Rock and Metal fans alike! I have never grown tired of the "hit' songs, such as "Calling Dr. Love" and "Hard Luck Woman". I never could label "Hard Luck Woman" as a ballad, the song with it's acoustic sound has too rich a Hard Rock vibe. The deeper cuts, the inner workings of this album is what really makes "Rock And Roll Over" so special. "I Want You" is a heavy song that opens up the album, it is definitely one of Paul Stanley's brightest vocal moments ever. "Mr. Speed", "Ladies Room", "Baby Driver" and "Take Me" are all Kiss songs that should be heard as much as any of their biggest hits. This album as a whole is constant with the Hard Rock/Metal sound, there are no ballads or experimentation to be found, only pure Kiss Rock and Roll. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley share lead vocal duties, they both sound so fresh, truly Kiss was at their musical pinnacle with "Rock And Roll Over".
There are no lyrics in the liner notes. A history on the release of "Rock And Roll Over" proves as an insightful read. Song credits and expanded artwork round out the remainder of the liner notes.
What's great about it: Every song is great. Kiss is brilliant here musically & vocally.

Released in 1991, Tesla "Psychotic Supper" is a Rock N' Roll treasure among the heavy music releases of it's time. Call Tesla Hard Rock or Heavy Metal, they produce a jolt of electrifying music that is lyrically intellectual. "Call It What You Want" is a perfect example of how to describe Tesla, this song states "it's all the same to me". "Call It What You Want" is such a great, heavy song that is intertwined with amazing arrangements and melody. "Change In The Weather" and "Man Out Of Time/Edison's Medicine" are two songs that display the heavier side of Tesla, the full blown elevation of musical energy I feel and hear from these songs never wanes. "What You Give" and "Song & Emotion" are two songs that are ballads, filled with inspired reflection and emotion, these two songs are far from sappy. "Song & Emotion" was dedicated by Tesla to the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard. I cannot say enough about how great the lead vocals of J.K. are on "Psychotic Supper", he really sings the lights out on this album. Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch are just amazing on guitars. Brian Wheat plays bass and Troy Luccketta is on drums & percussion, they deliver a potent rhythm section here that truly rounds out the greatness of Tesla. Tesla's "Psychotic Supper" is extremely relevant to today's music scene, hopefully it should make a Hard Rocking and positive impact on you!
What's great about it: Tesla are great musicians, song writing, lyrics, heavy & mellow.

When I listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Greatest Hits", I hear Rock, Hard Rock, Funk, Rap, Punk influence and Alternative music. You can call this album a collection of eclectic music. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an extreme band, in the unique sense of the entire package of music they create. There is no other band like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, nor will there ever be. If you are looking to purchase a definitive collection of the most diversified Rock music you will ever hear on one disc, this is it. "Under The Bridge" is a song about personal calamity, where one reflects on total abandonment, being lonely. "Give It Away" has the Rap Rock groove going from start to finish, with Funk rhythm happening along the way. "My Friends" is a ballad that has a catchy beat and stays linear with it's mellow flare. Every song on this disc is so worthy of praise, I can only say buying this "Greatest Hits" is a step in the right direction for upgrading any Rock music collection.
The liner notes are 20 pages of band photos, reflectively written bio's by Flea and John Frusciante, song credits and expanded artwork from the front cover. There are no lyrics in the liner notes.
What's great about it: 16 songs! The choicest of hits, diversified musically, lyrics!

Helloween "Walls Of Jericho" is Power Metal elite!

The birth of Helloween all began with the release of "Walls Of Jericho" in 1986. The overall atmosphere of this album is dark and creepy, raw and yet filled with the exuberance and freshness of Power Metal that was duly needed for the time. With searing guitars, a tad of Thrash, a dose of melodic Metal, you will hear Helloween's version of Power Metal! This expanded edition is so great, for it includes live bonus tracks that capture the energy and untamed, vigorous enthusiasm of Helloween's musical prowess unleashed! The tracks "Starlight", "Murderer", "Warrior", "Victim of Fate" and "Cry For Freedom" are all original songs found on the rare "Helloween" EP. This is a remarkable package of classic and early Helloween, the bonus studio tracks only enhance and heighten the reasons why Helloween was and still is a premier Power Metal band, probably the best. "Reptile" is a chilling, yet fun Metal track that has the raw quality that also packs a punch. "Gorgar" and "Phantom Of Death" are the examples of the dark side that Helloween plays off of so well. The overall arrangements, structure, music and lyrics are profoundly well done for a young Helloween of 1986. Kai Hansen proved to me then he was well qualified for Power Metal vocals, however new vocalists have come and gone for Helloween and this band has never skipped a beat. Helloween "Walls Of Jericho" in my opinion, was not just groundbreaking for this band, it was an Earth cruncher and a musical gift for the Power Metal genre.
What's great about it: Kai Hansen on vocals, Power Metal elite, 21 tracks!!

Cinderella "Night Songs" is '80's revved up Metal!

Cinderella released their debut album, "Night Songs" in 1986. This East Coast Hair Metal band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, gives you a very melodic, yet heavy set of tunes. "Nobody's Fool" is a very cool ballad, with strong vocals and heavy song structure. "Somebody Save Me" is a winner of a Heavy Metal song, the lyrics alone are so relevant to today's news. "Shake Me" is just a downright catchy, play it loud, party song. This song single handedly sets Cinderella apart from all other Hair Metal bands. "Night Songs" opens up this album on a true Heavy Metal note, it is a tempered down, heavy hitter. Overall, Cinderella stood out from other bands of their genre due to the bluesy style of their lyrics and music. Any fan of Hair Metal, AC/DC, or Hard Rock will be impressed by this now vintage '80's band. Metal fans in general should appreciate what Cinderella accomplished here, a hard driven, loud, well written album both musically & lyrically.
Tom Keifer on lead vocals, guitar & piano is best compared to Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P., his grainy vocals plume out in a grand way. Jon Bon Jovi contributes background vocals on "Nothin' For Nothin'" and "In From The Outside". Jeff LaBar on guitar/vocals, Eric Brittingham on bass/vocals and Fred Coury on drums rounds out the Cinderella lineup. Jeff Paris played keyboards on this album.
What's great about it: Songs will psyche you up, very melodic, fun party Metal!

Motorhead released "Rock 'N' Roll" in 1987, with Lemmy on vocals, original drummer Philthy Animal Taylor, Wurzel on guitar and current guitarist Phil Campbell on guitar as well. This Motorhead lineup proved they could deliver a solid rocking Metal album in the midst of the 1980's, among the Hair Metal, Thrash Metal and Death Metal genres. Motorhead simply put, plays Rock 'N' Roll, note the aptly titled "Rock 'N' Roll". You are getting extreme value with this album, it is a 2 disc set, disc one is the studio recording "Rock 'N' Roll" with 9 now already classic Motorhead tunes. Disc 2 has two bonus tracks, plus 13 live tracks taken from the "Monsters Of Rock" concert at Castle Donington, UK, on August 16, 1986. My favorite track here is "Just 'Cos You've Got The Power", wow is it a tremendous Motorhead vintage piece of work. All 7 plus minutes of this song jams with incredible guitar leads and solos. "Rock 'N' Roll" and "Eat The Rich" are probably the two most commercially accessible songs ever done by Motorhead, they are both here and start off this album with Metal glitz. Every song is so good, the live versions of past songs have exhilarating Metal bite to them, "Killed By Death" is my highlight choice on disc 2. Motorhead "Rock 'N' Roll' is definitely worth adding to any Hard Rock or Metal collection. Treat yourself to some Motorhead "Rock 'N' Roll", it will serve you right!
The liner notes are very cool, with 12 pages of complete lyrics, plenty of Lemmy & Motorhead photos, a written review and history of the album and credits.
What's great about it: Lemmy on vocals, Philthy Animal Taylor on drums, 24 songs! 2 disc set!
