As I've said in my review for Nails' first album, the songs are short and it makes for short albums, but keep in mind that there are short songs in hardcore and punk music. Abandon All Life is slightly longer than Unsilent Death, but it's just as in-your-face. Get both albums and You Will Never Be One Of Us when it's available.

Nails is an unrelenting hardcore (or powerviolence if you want to get technical) band, and they are simply addictive to listen to. Yes, the songs are short, and the length of the albums are short. Remember that hardcore and punk bands have short albums that were around 20-30 minutes. Keep that in mind if you don't think that Nails is worth it. Get this and Abandon All Life and You Will Never Be One Of Us when it's available, and you'll have a nice playlist.

It's a shame Static-X didn't keep going after this album. Apparently, drugs and marriage to former adult film star Tara Wray had something to do with the dissolution of the band. While they were together, it certainly did nothing to affect the sound here.

After they're experimentation period with Shadow Zone and Start A War, Static-X went full-on back-to-basics with Cannibal. It's Static-X, what more do you need?

Not losing a step with the big lineup changes, DevilDriver are back with Trust No One, truly an album that best encompasses the band's sound. There's no denying that they are the California groove machine.

Avatar are certainly continuing to push their sound into uniquely different territory since their melodic death metal days. If you haven't heard Black Waltz or Hail The Apocalypse, check them out first then continue with this to get the complete listening experience.

Producing and mixing great heavy bands, and recording and touring with his band Hate Eternal, Erik Rutan has a great body of work. Bands he's recorded/produced/engineered.mixed: Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Goatwhore, Soilent Green, Nile, Belphegor, Abysmal Dawn, Madball, Agnostic Front, Krisiun, Lizzy Borden, etc. Hate Eternal is one of the heaviest and most technical death metal bands out now, and they're a great showcase for his guitar playing as is this album. Thorns Of Acacia and the title track are a couple of examples to check out.

Before they found their breakout success with hits such as Still Counting, A Warrior's Call, Dead But Rising, and The Hangman's Body Count, Volbeat put out this mammoth of an album, mixing a raw and heavy production with perfect songs. That probably doesn't sound much different than their recent releases, but trust me. Check it out for yourself.

Being that Avatar are a Swedish metal band whose first three albums were obviously melodic death metal in the vein of other Swedish bands like In Flames, Soilwork, and At The Gates, I could see that metal heads could call these guys sellouts for changing up their sound and going into more groove metal and even a bit of Gothic territory. I think they did it so that they wouldn't be lumped in with the melodic death metal bunch, instead going for a more Lamb Of God meets Slipknot, whatever kind of sound. I actually prefer this over the first three albums they did, and I'm sure many metal listeners will too.
