The Mist is a daring adaptation of a Stephen King short story (from the collection Skeleton Crew). I was obsessed with the PC game of The Mist when I was in middle school. The movie adds a lot that the short story didn't have, including a lot of new and different monsters--though in "Twilight Zone" fashion, some of the people are also pretty terrible monsters as well. The Mist is a film not afraid to be dark. This story also inspired a TV series based loosely on the short story and this film.

Ad Astra is an artsy, moody remake of Apocalypse Now in space. Brad Pitt is searching for a rogue scientist who could destroy the entire galaxy. The twist? It's his father. Can Astro-Brad save his dad (and the galaxy) or is his dad really the villain he seems to be? The space scenes look awesome in 4K. There's a lot of long scenes of Brad Pitt staring out into space with voice-over narration. I guess all the best cowboys (I mean, astronauts) have daddy issues.

This machine is large and heavy, but it works great. I have no issues at all with it. My main issues are with the remote. The player is expensive and well-made, but the remote is pretty lame. The remote is small, the buttons are even smaller, and it feels cheap overall. I'm used to a LOT better from Sony remotes.

"Doctor Sleep" is the sequel to Stephen King's classic "The Shining." They decided to make "Doctor Sleep" connect to the awesome Stanley Kubrick version of "The Shining," with VERY mixed results. The rest of the story isn't bad. Little Danny Torrance is now all grown-up and helping people pass on peacefully in hospice care. But when a girl with even greater psychic talents than his becomes endangered, he becomes her mentor. Eventually, Danny has to confront the ghosts of his past, literally.
