A great series, a terrible ending...

The final season of Game of Thrones found a way to upset most of their fans in one way or another, from Starbucks cups in scenes, to heroes becoming mass murderers, to unexpected deaths and betrayals, and a "winner" of the "game of thrones" that no one saw coming. The battles are great, but the writing...well, I leave that to your own opinion.

Twin Peaks proves why it changed television
on November 9, 2019

The original series of Twin Peaks had a great start and some quirky fun characters. But once David Lynch went off to make movies, the show got very prosaic. The show ended on a massive cliffhanger in the early 90s. And now Showtime has created a third season. Sadly, the third season makes very little sense overall and has only brief flashes of brilliance.

A great horror film looks even better on 4K

A witty horror film from the minds of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, The Cabin in the Woods is a great choice for Halloween fun or any spooky occasion. There's a ton of "meta" fun and some great guest stars. Watch out for the Merman!

These three made-for-TV adaptations of some of Stephen King's most popular works includes Salem's Lot, It, and the Mick Garris-directed version of The Shining.

Three flawed TV horror miniseries

I watched all three of these when they originally aired. They have not aged well. Nor were they that great originally. A lot of good actors, but even more bad writing, and some pretty bad special effects.

As Florida authorities were evacuating a small town ahead of a Category 5 hurricane, Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario) was fighting to get in-trying to locate her unaccounted-for dad Dave (Barry Pepper). Making her way to his house, she finds him injured within an attic crawlspace... and, now, their survival is in question, both from the rising floodwaters and the hungry alligators trolling within. Alexandre Aja's terrifying two-hander co-stars Ross Anderson, Anson Boon.

Avoid the state of Florida--always.

Like Australia, Florida is a place full of creatures that want to eat or kill you. Crawl definitely demonstrated that alligators are not fun to be around, especially in a hurricane. Why any one would live in a house next to a lake full of alligators is beyond me. There's isn't much plot to the story. Gators plus hurricane plus two people trapped under an old house--which is (not so) slowly filling up with water. Yikes! There are gator-rific jump scares aplenty.

Titans is shockingly good
on October 29, 2019

I was expecting the usual "Greg Berlanti" kind of mediocre "Arrow" kind of superhero show and was pleasantly surprised by the dark and dynamic Titans. Let me say I have no fond memories of the Teen Titans comics or animated shows. This new show is dark and sexy and very realistic (you know, with superheroes). Why? They let real comic book writers actually write and produce the show. Titans stands up with any of the Marvel Netflix shows (and it's far better than Iron Fist).

Deadwood returns for a last bow
on October 12, 2019
Posted by: zerothevillain
Verified Purchase:Yes
A project that most of the actors said would never happen, Deadwood: The Movie continues the story from the acclaimed HBO series--which was cancelled before it could end it's rough tale of real-life and fantasy gunslingers and ne'er-do-wells in the real city of Deadwood, South Dakota at the dawn of the 20th century. While this is not the "end" of the story, it is a much better conclusion than the one they had before.

Westworld soars beyond the source material
on October 12, 2019

Westworld is a story about how, in the not too distant future, robots can simulate human behavior so well that they become sentient. The problem? Those robots are in a theme park where the guests routinely brutalize, assault, and kill them. It does not paint a good picture of human nature.

Supernatural just keeps rolling along
on September 24, 2019

Verified Purchase:Yes
The fourteenth season of Supernatural is about parenthood for Sam and Dean and Castiel. They have to instill good values as well as contain the powers of the literal son of the devil, who became a (goofy, yet all-powerful) teenager within seconds of being born. This season covers a lot of ground--most notably briefly reuniting the boys with their long-lost dad--Negan, I mean Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester. The upcoming season fifteen looks like it will be the last chapter in this long story.
