The Best "Thing" Ever!

I opted for the Best Buy exclusive SteelBook, which is great. But the real star of the show here is the excellent 4K presentation of The Thing. I have owned every US release of this film since the original DVD, which was not anamorphic widescreen. I own the Scream Factory releases, including the SteelBook with the 4K scan on 1080p Blu-ray and while that 4K source was the best we had seen thus far, this 4K disc with wide color and HDR presents the best version of the film yet. The colors look accurate and the image has more depth and realism...yes, even with the practical effects. One might expect that the effects could show their age, but instead, they look more grotesque and authentic than ever. This will be the definitive way to experience The Thing.
This release comes with a new DTS:X audio mix, as well. I did detect some differences from other versions I have heard, with some scenes not having quite the punch they had before, but that is either my memory or my system. It still sounds good and immersive. It is nothing to complain about, for sure.
If you can find it, and you're a fan of the film, definitely pick this one up. There seemed to be a shortage of this film at retailers, with only Best Buy having it on shelves...way to go, Best Buy! I was fortunate enough to pick one up on release day. Stores are shirking their selection, which is a shame. I always enjoy browsing and picking up titles at the store. Luckily, I found one when I drove to my local store on my lunch break. Best Buy, if you're listening, we physical media collectors want to see more titles in the stores.
This is a great disc. Definitely an upgrade worthy of your dollars.

Very quiet. This may be the quietest dryer we've ever owned. It also does a good job of drying clothes. The illuminated (large) drum is also a nice feature. We need to explore more of its features, but so far we are very happy with it.

I went into this film knowing it was essentially a story about what would happen if Superman were evil? What I didn't expect was the gore. So, be prepared. It didn't bother me, just know what to expect. The story overall was good and the movie was done well. It's probably just a one-time watch for me. I would recommend it though.

Still wondering what I just watched

I am a fan of Christopher Nolan's films. So many are amazing films, from the Batman films, to Inception, to Dunkirk, his films are entertaining and fantastically directed. Tenet, however, left me confused. It still has the amazing direction and high production value, but I struggled to understand and enjoy this film. I will need to re-watch it, and perhaps that is the point? Unlike other Nolan films, the music did not let up. This film had little time to breath. It gets going and never backs off. I may have to revise this review later.

This is becoming my favorite Mac of all-time! The M1 processor is amazing. Apple also added a great display to the MacBook Air. The keyboard is fantastic. The best trackpad in the industry. Plus, I love the gold color, which is more like a rose gold. This machine is a joy to use. So much power in a small package. I like small laptops. The 12" PowerBook was one of my favorite Apple laptops. This is easily winning me over. Love it!

I love the Steelbook. I suppose I have to admit to myself that I am just not a Lupin fan. I've seen the 2D animated film from Studio Ghibli and this one. Both start out great and seem to be a lot of fun. I just lose interest. It's no fault of the creative team. The film looks great and it is a well made film. So, if you are a fan, check it out and get the Steelbook, which is way nicer than the standard release.

A Great Time

I've seen this film a couple of times. Once streamed and another time having watched it on 4K UHD Blu-ray. First, the film is a lot of fun. It's a well-scripted story with characters that are well-developed for this style of film, it's witty and fun and the action scenes include some well choreographed fights and mayhem. It's a lot of fun.
The 4K HDR presentation is excellent. The disc looks great with lots of color and detail with a fail amount of HDR highlights. The Dolby Atmos immersive sound track is also very good and puts you in the middle of the action.
Ignore the naysayers and check it out. Be mindful that it does have an R rating due to language and violence though.

Stunning 4K UHD presentation! The orchestral score blaring in Dolby Atmos draws you in from the opening title sequence. The Dawn of Man segments are incredibly detailed and the HDR highlights and colors let you know this is indeed a considerable upgrade. Then you get into the space scenes and again you are stricken by the HDR highlights and incredible detail. Go inside the space station and the colors leap off of the screen. This carries on throughout the film. Once Dave gets inside of Hal the reds are unlike any presentation on home video. And the colors going into the void are striking. This set comes in a hard cardboard box with a slim flip book of stills and a few art cards, as well. Overall, it's a great package.

An Updated 90's Classic

The 4K UHD Blu-ray presentation of Total Recall is not to be missed. With a Dolby Vision transfer and Dolby Atmos immersive audio presentation, this film is like you've never experienced it before. Plus, the 3-disc set is loaded with special features. The 4K disc includes some of the special features, while there is an additional Blu-ray disc containing just special features. Plus, you get the film on Blu-ray on a standalone disc. Speaking of extras, there is a hour-long documentary on Carolco, the studio that brought you the Rambo films, Total Recall, Fatal Attraction and so many others. It's a very interesting documentary and it is great to see it included here. Plus, bonus features on Total Recall such as scoring the film and the effects and production. All of the three discs include artwork, as well. The slipcover is great and Best Buy has a Steelbook that utilizes the art from the disc menus. This is the version to own. And at the price, it makes Total Recall on 4K UHD Blu-ray a must-buy.

John Sayles loosely adapted the Gary Brandner novel; with Christopher Stone, Patrick Macnee, Kevin McCarthy, John Carradine. 91 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Absolutely worth the upgrade to 4K. I have the previous Blu-ray from Scream Factory and I wasn't sure a 4K upgrade would benefit this film much. Boy, was I wrong. The picture is very pleasing. Film grain is intact but not heavy. The reds and lights of the opening scene pop and create a picture with more depth. Details can be seen in faces, clothing, and the effects. Oh, the effects. Though little of the werewolves is shown, what we get looks amazing and the transformation scene has never been more grotesque. The previous Blu-ray is included and it has loads of very interesting special features that I also thoroughly enjoyed after watching the film. The Howling is a classic. Buy it!

I got the slipcover, but I was in the store. Currently, all issued should have the slip. The wrapping is over the slipcover. At some point they might stop issuing slipcovers, but they are on the early runs out there now. So, even ordering online you should receive one.

I have a Samsung 3D capable th, that I have played 3d bluray discs on. My samsung BD payer doesn't function anymore. Will this play 3d discs faithfully?
