Excellent in 4K!

First, this is one of the most gorgeous Steelbooks. Slide off the provided plastic slipcover and underneath is a matte metallic paint colorful image of the ghost that wraps around the back. It's a true display piece.
Now, for the picture quality. Sometimes 2D animation doesn't benefit much from HDR and the highlights seem to alter the original intent of the material. Not so here. It is just enough of a bump to make the highlights give the image a more three-dimensional appearance. I compared this to the recent 25th anniversary Blu-ray and this is quite an improvement. The Blu-ray seems muddy in comparison. Believe me, if you want to see this film in its best presentation, and you should because the art is incredible, this is the disc to own. Speaking of the art, there are special features on the 4K disc, including a look at the backgrounds used in the film.
Obviously, I highly recommend this release.
Credit to Best Buy for the quick delivery. I opted for standard shipping. I ordered early in the morning and the item arrived the next day! I was overjoyed.

Somewhat disappointed

JAWS is a classic. No doubt. I hadn't seen it in years. I did enjoy rewatching it, and I have little doubt that this 4K UHD presentation is the best it has ever looked. My disappointment is perhaps due largely to the glowing reviews online from professionals who adore the film. For them, seeing it look so clean and detailed was enough, and deserving of high praise. What I found was that the HDR was lacking here. It looked like another good transfer, but lacking HDR specular highlights. Maybe it wasn't graded at a very high nit level, or the highlights were not bumped in order to attain the original theater-like presentation. If that were the case, then a 4K HDR presentation only brings minor improvements over a 1080p Blu-ray since the resolution doesn't make that much of a difference to most people given the size of their display and the distance they sit from it, along with their visual acuity. Some color improvements could be gained, but that's it. Don't get me wrong. It looks good. It probably is an improvement over the 1080p Blu-ray, but not a huge one. Still, at the price point, and for the bonus features, it's not a bad deal, especially if you don't own the previous Universal 1080p Blu-ray disc.

Some saw this film as a bit of a gimmick. But it is a true gem. Telling the story in this manner was a bold choice and the filmmakers truly challenged themselves by doing so. I feel I get more out of it and appreciate the technical achievement the more times I watch it.
Presented here in 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos, it is a reference-level presentation. Highly recommended.

Thank goodness we finally got this wonderful series in HD. The DVD box sets didn't even appear to be remastered. They were just slapped onto DVD. There were jaggies and they did not present the series well. Now, that has changed. The series looks way better. That is great because the animation is wonderful. This is one of the best North American animated series of all-time. Ditch the DVDs and get this Blu-ray set if you're a fan.

Absolutely worth the upgrade to 4K. I have the previous Blu-ray from Scream Factory and I wasn't sure a 4K upgrade would benefit this film much. Boy, was I wrong. The picture is very pleasing. Film grain is intact but not heavy. The reds and lights of the opening scene pop and create a picture with more depth. Details can be seen in faces, clothing, and the effects. Oh, the effects. Though little of the werewolves is shown, what we get looks amazing and the transformation scene has never been more grotesque. The previous Blu-ray is included and it has loads of very interesting special features that I also thoroughly enjoyed after watching the film. The Howling is a classic. Buy it!

I got the slipcover, but I was in the store. Currently, all issued should have the slip. The wrapping is over the slipcover. At some point they might stop issuing slipcovers, but they are on the early runs out there now. So, even ordering online you should receive one.
