A Return to ‘80s Action

Much like the Fast & Furious franchise, the Expendables trilogy could be deemed as “action trash for nostalgia fans”. And looking at it for face value, I would agree with you. But when you take a step back and really look at the film, it really embodies the best of what 80s action films were. Not just the star power, but the likable characters, the character arcs, and action that services the story and not the other way around. Also, it was extremely pleasing to see them use practical effects and not CGI.
Now this copy of the movie I bought because I wanted to see the Uncut Edition of the movie which was not included with the 4K UHD trilogy set. From that point of view, I’m very annoyed that I essentially had to buy it twice. But I will say that the value of $5.99 made this a little easier to swallow. If you don’t own this film already, this is a good version to have at a great price.

This is a truly awesome film that is no doubt a favorite from everyone’s childhoods. Getting this on blu ray is truly worth it not just for the movie, but the special features as well.
Was able to pick this up for $5.99 at Best Buy, so you really can’t beat that price! Well worth picking up if you loved it as a kid and want to share it with your kids.

Some Guilty Pleasures

The quality of these films really live and die on whether you’re a fan of these franchises or not. Personally, I quite like the remake of Friday the 13th and didn’t hate the Nightmare remake, but would say that the original is still better.
However the real value for me was getting Freddy vs Jason as it is 110% fan-service schlock that is purely enjoyable. Is the story great? No, but getting to see these two horror icons duke it out on screen is incredible!
For $11.99, this is a great set for a great value. They’re just the original blu ray discs re-released in this 3-pack but if you don’t already own these, then this is a great value and well worth grabbing for the upcoming horror season.

A Great 4th Installment

Rambo has been a beloved franchise in the action genre for decades, and while the third film is often ridiculed as the worst of the series, I still found it very enjoyable. So when this 4th film came out, many people didn’t have high expectations but were very pleasantly surprised when it ended up being one of the best in the series.
Seeing the movie in crystal clear 4K is a great experience and hugely benefits from the improved sound quality. I’m also happy to say that this set comes with both the theatrical and Unrated cuts of the movie. I’m very glad to add this one to my Rambo 4K collection and am now more stoked than ever for Rambo: Last Blood!!

A Fun Amalgam Of Classic DC Comics Stories

A great aspect of these LEGO DC movies is how they adapt and integrate classic DC characters and storylines into over the top, kid friendly action adventures that infuse fun pieces of comedy that make the films enjoyable for kids AND adults, much in the same way I think the Adam West tv series did back in the 60’s.
Seeing entire Bat Family team up to go up against Red Hood in LEGO form is a true delight and a ton of fun. If you’re a fan of DC Comics and these LEGO movies in general, then this is certainly worth picking up. You get a free digital copy of the movie as well as a mini LEGO Batmobile that you can assemble.

A Fantastic Culimantion To the MCU

Avengers: Endgame is easily the most emotional and landmark film of the Marvel Cinematic universe to date and lives up to its reputation.
Many of the scenes shot in IMAX are what benefit most from the 4K Upgrade and really help enhance the movie watching experience in your home theater set up. The set comes packed with 3 discs, including the 4K feature film disc, a regular blu ray disc, and a special features disc. You also get a free digital redemption code. Packed with over an hour of special features, there’s a lot to enjoy with this release. Much of it is vey retrospective and focuses on the MCU as a whole and not really this standalone film. But it’s a great nostalgic look back at this amazing universe we entered into 11 years ago.

A Decent Sequel

Many people write off Thor: The Dark World as the weakest of the Marvel movies which I feel is a bit of an unfair critique. It expands on the Thor universe and takes us off world to visit other planets and see unique design elements. It does lean a bit too heavily on the comedy aspect and doesn’t do anything to fundamentally change the characters. It does feel that the sole purpose of the film is to introduce a new Infinity stone and doesn’t put enough focus on establishing the villain.
With that said, if you own all the other movies on 4K, this is a decent set to own. You get the 4K disc and the regular blu ray. There are no new special features other than what we got with the original release. You also get an HD digital redemption code.

Once again, this is a film not shot in native 4K but is a 4K upscale. With that said, the scenes on Asgard and in space greatly benefit from the upscale and the sound quality is arguably the biggest benefit.
As with the other Marvel 4K re-releases, there are no new special features from the original blu ray release, but also comes with an HD digital redemption code.

Visually Stunning, Not a Great Film

It should be stated that because this movie was shot digitally and not on film, this is not a true 4K release but is a 4K upscale. With that said, the picture quality and sound is an improvement over the original blu ray release.
Regardless of what you think of the movie itself (I myself am not a fan), I think this is a decent set to own if you’re a collector and have all the other Marvel movies on 4K. It’s a bit disappointing that there are no new special features that differ from the original release, but it’s good to have the complete Iron Man trilogy on 4K.

Iron Man 2 is a bit disposable as a sequel as it doesn’t really do anything new or change anything with the characters.
Ultimately, if you own the other Marvel movies on 4K and want to complete your collection, then this is a worthy set to own. It comes with all the original special features from the initial release, but doesn’t come with anything new. You also get a free digital redemption code.
