Great Return to a Great Series

The DC Universe streaming service has a TON of amazing content that justifies the $75/year pricepoint including live-action original series like Titans, Doom Patrol, And Swamp Thing, as well as thousands of digital comics, live action movies, animated series, and live action tv shows from years past like Lois & Clark.
But the series I was most arguably excited for was the return of Young Justice!! Easily the best animated series in DC’s library (may second only to the original Batman Animated Series), Young Justice was a perfect blend of stellar animation, epic action, and most importantly, clever and investing storytelling. You got to know and love each of the characters, their unique personalities, and their backstories. Unfortunately, because this was an animated show targeted towards young adults and adults instead of kids, there wasn’t much in the way of toy sales and merchandise sold, so it was unfairly cancelled by Cartoon Network after the second season.
Fan outrage produced a number of online petitions that were unsuccessful in getting the show brought back..... until the DC Universe streaming service! With the same creative team and voice cast, Young Justice returns in its greatness providing the same level of quality on all fronts. If I had to give any criticism to the season, I would say that it focuses a bit too much on the new characters like Halo and GeoForce instead of Nightwing, Superboy, and the others. But the season finale promises and even bigger fourth season and I’m really glad to be able to add this physical set to my DC Animated Universe collection.
If you’re a fan of DC Comics or animation in general, this is a must-own!

A Fun Documentary

If you’re a fan of Alien (which, come on....who isn’t?), then this is certainly worth a watch. There’s some decent insight into the making of the original film that started it all with great interviews and behind the scenes footage.
The thing I would say is this: If you already own the Alien Anthology set that has the first four films with special features produced by Charles de Lauzirika, then you’ve already seen most of this information in what I feel is a more organized presentation.
With that said, if you’re a fan of the film and the franchise, then it’s certainly worth a watch to see some fresh interviews and gain a couple of new perspectives on a sci-fi/horror classic that still holds up to this day as one of the greatest films ever made.

The ULTIMATE RoboCop Release

There have been several releases of Paul Verhoeven’s classic since it first debuted in 1987: from the edgy theatrical release, to the all too tame TV edit, to the beautifully violent Director’s Cut. Add to this, the several formats it’s been released on: VHS, laser disc, dvd, blu ray, and digital.
The most recent blu ray release and even trilogy set was a very good release, providing both the theatrical and director’s cuts with improved picture quality and sound, not to mention a plethora of special features.
But about a year ago, Shout Factory released new blu ray editions of RoboCop 2&3 that put the RoboCop release to shame! After months and months of waiting, I’m so glad to share that THIS is the ultimate release of RoboCop!!! True, this is not a 4K Upgrade, but this set contains everything a true RoboCop-fan can want: hours of exclusive extras, all 3 cuts of the movie across 2 discs, gorgeous packaging and original art, posters, collector cards, and stickers included, as well as a behind the scenes book on the making of the film!
If you’re at all on the fence of picking this up because you already own a copy, this is WELL WORTH the expense to upgrade. This is a must-own!!

A Solid Sequel

This film gets quite a bit of flack for not being AS good as the first chapter Installment, whether it be because of the elongated runtime or the diminished scares. But I think ultimately this film focuses less on the scares and more on further fleshing out these characters.
From that standpoint, I feel this sequel measures up and solidly closes out the story in a way that’s loyal to the source material.
All that said, this is a fantastic release that comes packed with hours of special features and even a separate documentary that explores the making of both this film and the first installment. Seeing this in perfect 4K is an absolute blast, especially the funhouse scene.
If you’re a true Stephen King fan or a fan of the book, this is a must-own that you’ll thoroughly enjoy having in your collection.

A Truly Great Set

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is an incredible Installment in Tarantino’s filmography, so from that standpoint alone, this is a must own for any film collector.
What puts this set over the top is the crystal clear picture of the 4K presentation of the film, couple with the perfect Dolby 5.1 soundmix and the special features. This set also includes a free digital copy.
This is a wholly enjoyable film with fantastic extras to make it a must-have for everyone!

God bless Paul Verhoeven. This man know she how to bring together the perfect levels of action, satire, and effects to create some of the most iconic films of the ‘80s and ‘90s! Starship Troopers operates in the vein of RoboCop and Total Recall before it by creating fun and likable characters and tossing them into a creatively rich world and entertaining action sequences.
While the effects could be argued to be lackluster, I feel that they were purposefully rendered this way to tie into the over the top nature of the film and just makes it an incredibly fun thrill ride. Seeing this film in gorgeous 4K is really the ultimate way to experience this film! This set comes packed with hours of special features to celebrate the 20th anniversary and also includes a free digital copy.

Universal Soldier is such an awesome action movie that is, without question, a guilty pleasure. While Van Damme and Lundgren are obviously never going to win an Oscar for their acting, that’s part of what gives this movie its charm!
With such a creative idea as the basis of the movie, Van Damme and Lundgren’s over the top approach and masculinity makes this an action-lovers must-own Film! Packed from beginning to end with epic action sequences and all the tropes of a great action movie, this is pure enjoyment.

American Gangster is an overlooked gem that many people don’t give enough attention to. Based on a true story, this film boasts great performances from Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. With a stellar supporting cast and soundtrack, this is a great period piece that tells a compelling narrative that incorporates a lot of great elements from classic crime dramas.

The Fast & Furious films have always been over the top and beyond the realm of belief, but this one crosses the line to feeling like a cartoon with the sheer level of stunts and breaking of physics.
If you’re a fan of the franchise, this set comes packed with over an hour of special features plus a director’s cut to the film.
I can easily say this film isn’t my favorite of the franchise, but I’d be hesitant to say its my least favorite. If you are willing to let your brain go and just jump on for the ride, it’s enjoyable and a good addition to your collection.
