A Fantastic Reimagining

With all of the constant flash, bang, and effects of modern comic book movies, it’s truly refreshing to see a deep dive character piece centered around one of comics’ most famous villains: the Joker.
While many may not like that it’s not accurate to the comics, I think most would agree that Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is a runaway success and the film breaks new yet familiar ground with its aesthetic and tone.
Seeing this movie on 4K UHD is the best way to experience it as the black levels and contrast of the darker scenes is gorgeous and the reds, greens, and neons of other scenes truly pop off the screen. The score is also a truly amazing triumph that captures the essence of the character and the film.
This is 100% worth buying and adding to your collection. There isn’t a whole lot in terms of special features, but what they do include covers the segments of the film you want to learn more about. It also comes with a free digital redemption code which, when you redeem it, the iTunes version includes an additional special feature of a film commentary track!

Great game, Disappointing Condition

This was a game I’d owned back when it first came out around 2011-2012 and was one of the few people who really loved it in spite of its glitches. I really love the Christmas setting and the blizzard conditions of the city. But when Arkham Knight came out on PS4, I regrettably sold my PS3 system and all my games.
Years later, I rebought and PS3 and this game to complete my Arkham Anthology. While the game disc itself was in great condition, the case came unwrapped and really beaten up. Not sure if that was an effect of the game being in storage in a Best Buy warehouse for several years, but it was a bit disappointing for something that I was buying as a “new game”.

A powerful film!!

Kathryn Bigelow has been a long time favorite director of mine as she has a unique talent for capturing tension while doing so through fantastic character dialogue. Point Break, Hurt Locker, And Zero Dark Thirty all prove this and Detroit is no exception.
Set in the late 60’s, Detroit explores the 1967 riots that I’m turn spurred a horrific hate crime perpetrated by racist police officers against the black community. This film pulls no punches and forces the audience to not only feel the experience of what the people in this story went through in real life, but to come to grips with how our society functioned then and the problems we STILL face today.
This was a film that didn’t get nearly enough recognition on its release but is a movie that everyone should watch. Available for a fantastic price and a powerful film to add to the collection. Comes with a host of special features and a free digital copy.

As a lover of spy and espionage movies, Red Sparrow is......okay. It’s doesnr do anything new or exciting. It’s well filmed and presents a cool idea, but meanders through.
I hadn’t heard the best of things on this film before buying it, but was able to grab it for a great bargain, so figured it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot. Comes with a decent amount of special features and a free digital copy.

The Ultimate RoboCop Release

I now own both the regular and now steelbook version of Arrow Video’s release of RoboCop. All the discs and special features are the exact same, but this set obviously sports a different cover and doesn’t include all the same physical bits the regular version does (mini production book, posters, etc...)
If you don’t own the Arrow release and can only afford one of them, I’d say get the regular release for all the other bits that come with it and the new original artwork for the cover. If you can afford both and love the film, the steelbook is well worth grabbing too!

Having grown up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, TMNT was a huge part of my childhood. Everything from the Toys, live action movies, and comics, but this show was at the core of it. A stellar theme, fun characters, and an endless reservoir of story ideas.
Being a collector, this is a great set to have as its one that fits on my shelf, as opposed The the Turtle Van replica case they have for the 1st Edition release. My only complaint with this set is 2 things: 1. Not enough special features, 2. No episode guide or disc book so you have no clue which episodes are on which disc or which discs hold the special features.

The Grinch is a staple of so many peoples’ childhoods that transcends time and is apart of so many generations.
Seeing the upgraded picture and sound transfer on this blu ray, it completely rejuvenates the experience of watching the movie AND includes a ton of fun special features for all the adults who are revisiting this film when watching it with their kids to learn more about the process of making this animated movie and celebrating its legacy.
I grew up with How the Grinch Stole Christmas and was beyond excited to share it with my 2 yr old niece as she’s now old enough to enjoy it and especially loved the song. That reward in and of itself makes this blu ray 1000% worth adding to the collection!!

My 2-yr-old niece is, of course, obsessed with Paw Patrol with everything from the cartoon to toys. So getting this set with more than 6 episodes that are all holiday themed for less than $10 is a great deal!!
This is an affordable stocking stuffer that I can give her early in the morning so that she can watch these episodes throughout Christmas Day and keep her busy till the festivities start later.

A Strong Sequel Game

This is a game that I put off buying for a while because I was convinced it couldn’t measure up to the quality of story of the first game. Ultimately, what convinced me to pick this up was getting the full experience of all the different characters and DLCs in one disc.
The graphics and fight mechanics are vastly improved from the first game, but the gear purchasing gets a bit annoying.
This version of the game is well worth picking it up because you not only get all the regular characters and skins, but also all the bonus characters like Hellboy, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Darkseid, and more.

A Great Action Finale

Rambo has been apart of the American culture and zeitgeist for so long that it’s hard to imagine a finale that would honor the legacy of the character and provide a powerful enough ending that would do justice to such an iconic character. I think Last Blood provides that in many aspects, but does miss some of the iconic elements that makes Rambo who he is.
All in all, this 4K set is a very good release. The film itself is well transferred to the format as the film was gorgeously shot and has a truly dynamic score that truly benefits from the clean sound transfer.
The special features are pretty good with great behind the scenes shots and a lot of great info on making the film.
If you’re a Rambo fan or an action movie fan, this is a great set to pick up.
