Can I use the soundbar as my center channel?
No, the HW-S60D cannot be used as a standalone center channel for a separate home-theater receiver. Soundbars are self-powered, all-in-one systems and do not have inputs that allow them to accept a discrete center-channel signal from an AV receiver.
That said, the HW-S60D does include a built-in center channel and handles dialogue internally when used as your main audio system with a TV.

Can I use my Samsung tv remote instead of the sound bar remote
Hello JerriW, as long as your soundbar is connected to your TV with either an optical cable or HDMI via ARC, you can control the volume and mute the soundbar using your Samsung TV's remote. The soundbar should also turn on and off with the TV.
1. Use the TV remote to navigate to Settings, select Sound, and then select Sound Output on your Samsung TV.
2. Select your Samsung soundbar, and then select Close. Now you can use your TV remote to adjust volume and mute the soundbar. The soundbar should also turn on and off with the TV.
By default, Samsung TV remotes should be able to control Samsung soundbars. If it isn't working, be sure the soundbar is powered on, and then press and hold the WOOFER button up until "ON - TV REMOTE" appears on the display (about 5 seconds). Next, you'll need to choose between connecting with an optical cable or an HDMI cable.

Can the soundbar be installed above the TV without significantly affecting the audio quality?

Yes, the HW-Q990D can be installed above the TV, but it may slightly affect audio performance compared to the recommended placement below the screen.
For best results, Samsung recommends positioning the soundbar below the TV and near ear level, as the front and upward-firing speakers are designed to project sound toward the listener and reflect audio off the ceiling for Dolby Atmos effects. When mounted above the TV, dialogue clarity and height effects may be less precise.
If installing above the TV is necessary, mounting the soundbar as close as possible to the screen and angling it downward toward the seating area can help minimize any impact on sound quality.
