So does this device basically turn into a laptop when attached to the keyboard, and then a tablet when detached? Also, would this work well for online college classes? I'm looking for a 2-in-1 Chromebook that will excel at this.

When the keyboard is attached to the Duet 5, the system's layout and interface will be in a desktop mode, and when detached, the device layout and interface enters a form of tablet mode to allow for a more touch friendly experience.
As far as the use that you intend for this Chromebook, it could work well for you, as many other users in reviews have done the same. This will be predominately dependent on if there's any software that you may need to use for classes, as some need to use programs like a lockdown browser and more which is not compatible with the ChromeOS operating system.
