This model is not user upgradable. A certified technician must perform all of the work on this device, so as to not void the warranty. A certified technician can replace the existed SSD with a compatible drive.

With regard to all of the negative comments on sound quality .. can you advise me if there is an available port to add auxiliary speakers? I have a hearing deficit, and would not mind plugging in a pair of small speakers.

Yes, you can plug external speaker in to this device by using the 3.5mm headphone jack.

This laptop comes with 6gb memory - how much improvement would there be upgrading to 8gb? Am I correct in since there is only 1 slot you would have to replace it and not add more? Is it worth it?

This device is not user upgradable. All work on the device must be performed by a certified technician, so as to not void the warranty. Yes, there is only one slot on this configuration. There is 4GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard and, in this configuration a 2GB stick on the open slot. The 2GB stick would have to be replaced. Is it worth it. We recommend you check with the Geek Squad at your local Best Buy for costs for this upgrade and weigh that cost against a marginal improvement in handling large files or working on multiple programs/windows at the same time.
