Why do some Canon cameras not offer "Night time" mode?

In the custom settings on my current Canon power shot there is a "Night Shot" mode setting. However, on the newer cameras there is only: "Auto", "Manual", "Color Adjust" but no "Nightshot". Why has this setting been eliminated?
From what I have found the Powershot cameras from Canon have up to 19 shooting modes, including portrait, foliage, snow, beach, sunset, fireworks, aquarium, underwater, indoor, kids & pets, night snapshot, color accent, color swap, digital macro and stitch assist. Amount of modes may vary from model to model. There is a “Night Snapshot” mode on all models I researched.

how do I transfer video from camcorder onto discs

There are many different ways to do this. A stand alone DvD Recorder is one option. Capturing the footage on a computer and burning a DvD is another. Footage can either be transferred by Firewire (IEEE 1394 cable) or by USB. It can also be captured by a Video Bridge device such as the Dazzel from Pinnacle. Using a stand alone DvD burner is probably the easiest and fastest way to transfer to disk. There are many different options for stand alone burners. Stop by your nearest BestBuy and take a look.

can i use a camcorder as a digital camera as well?

Yes. Most camcorders have a “Photo” button on top of the camcorder, usually near the zoom control, that will take a photo and store it either to the video media as a still image or to the memory media as a photo image (depending on which is selected). When recorded as a still image it will be about 10 seconds long and audio will active to be recorded as a narration track. The photo image, when set to memory, will be limited to the screen resolution that the video is set to. Keep in mind that the megapixel count will not be of the same size as a digital still camera. My rule is: Video camera = Big Video, Little picture. Digital Camera = Big Picture, Little Video

what does 1200 iso mean?

what does 1200 iso mean?
ISO means International Organization for Standardization. It is a way of making sure that all exposure speeds of film, and digital sensitivity are the same. A low ISO number means more light is needed to expose the film (sensor) to get an image. The low number is also the sharper picture. More light can be
given by either slower shutter speed or larger aperture opening. The slower shutter can cause blur in the photo at low light.
A higher number is better for low light and sports shooting, however it does give more grain (noise) to the image. Most digital cameras can go as low as 100 and as high as 1600. Some advanced digital and D-SLR cameras can go to 3200. 1200 ISO is a fairly high speed and would work well in low light, such as evening outside shots.

Two questions...Are there any hard drive camcorders that record in HD and please explain what would make a hard drive crash?

I noticed a prior answer mentioned that a hard drive camcorder can crash. I was thinking of buying a hard drive camcorder but this sounds very ominous. Also are there hard drive cams that record in HD and, if so, which are they?
All camcorders are susceptible to recording errors of one kind or another. Tape heads can clog, DvD's can get scratches or finger prints, Hard Drives and Memory media can crash or develop errors. In most cases the footage can be recovered and the camcorder serviced.
As to what Hard Drive based camcorders are in HD...Canon, JVC, Panasonic and Sony all models of various Hard Drive sizes that are in HD. Stop by your nearest BestBuy and take a look, they should have several models on display to choose from.

how do i transfer the video off my JVC mini DV to a computer?

I want to transfer the video from my JVC Mini DV camera to my laptop or desktop so it can be burned to a disc.
Most MiniDV camcorders have a Firewire (IEEE 1394) output connection that will connect to mini Firewire input on your laptop(if you have that connection port). You then use editing software to capture the footage.
If you do not have that connection you can get a DV bridge, such as the Pinnacle Dazzle, that connects to your USB port and allows you plug your camcorder in through the A/V (Audio Video) lines.

my camara is not working correctlly

my camaras flash stop working
There any number of things that could cause a flash to stop working. It could have been disabled in the menu settings of the camera, the light meter inside the camera could be faulty and not activating the flash or the gases inside the flash itself may be bad. It would be best to take it to your nearest Best Buy and let the Geek Squad take a look. They will advise you of the best action to take.

I have a Canon SD630 and my daughter is thinking of getting a SD890 IS. Are both batteries interchangeable to both camera? The salesperson at BBuy cou

Sorry to say they are not. Canon SD630 uses the NB 4L battery, the Canon SD890 IS uses the NB 5L. The NB 4L works on models up to the SD700 IS when the NB 5L takes over.
The shape is different also. The NB 5L is a rectangular battery with three contacts points on one end and the NB 4L is square shaped battery with three contacts on top.
