Old Camcorder - how can I digitize my old 8mm tapes?

I have a Sony analog camcorder. I have some 8mm tapes with footage that I would like to upload into my computer. I have a dvd burner that I can burn the 8mm tapes onto, however, the format of the footage on the dvd isn't recognized by my computer. I've heard of some digital camcorders that have a "pass through" option. Which camcorders offer this option? My goal is to get some footage shot of a band onto a dvd so I can put it in my computer and upload it to youtube.com. Thanks for any help you can give me !!
If you still have a functioning camcorder, then check out the Dazzle from Pinnicle Systems. This is device that bridges between analog devices and the digital world allowing you to capture your video on the computer. You than can edit if required and burn a DvD.

Best camcorder for concerts???

I have a camcorder but the sound is horrible and scratchy when recording loud sounds, such as concerts, club shows, etc. I need one that isn't too outrageously priced that will record great video with good quality sound even in these conditions.
Sound, especially excessive sound, can cause havoc with the limiter in a standard camcorder. You will need to look for a camcorder that has manually adjustable audio levels and set it to a very low setting. Sony, JVC and Canon have models in the semi-pro arena. Looking for digital camera to take videos.

I want to be able to take videos as well as digital pics. What is the best camera for this?
Almost all camcorders have a photo ability. The quality is not as good as digital Camera. Also, some digital cameras do record audio/video. The quality is designed for internet sending. Looks good online, not on tv. These are also VERY limited on the amount of time that can be recorded. It is best to try several models at your nearest BestBuy and decide what looks best to YOU. My rule of thumb is "Video Camera = BIG VIDEO..little picture. Digital Camera = BIG PICTURE....little video"

Movie Edit Pro 12 OR Pinnacle Studio 11?

I need to buy a video editing software where I can edit miniDVD footage. I was wondering which one is better. the software has to well be able to edit .vob files, and aslo edit in 16:9 ratio and able to burn DVD, and make a menu. Which one of this softwares is better.??
Not familiar with Movie Edit Pro 12. I have worked with versions of Pinnacle Studio going back to version 6 and have been very happy with Pinnacle products. As for editing “ .vob” file, these are a versions of mpg-2 video file designed for DvD. Some will allow you to just rename the file to .mpg, some may require a file converter. Pinnacle Studio 11 is also able to work with the AVCHD files.

Mini DV or Flash Memory

I am looking for a camcorder to take with me to events for school etc. I am not looking to spent as much money as it takes to get a DVD camcorder. I am torn between the MiniDV and the Flash Memory. I am looking for a camcorder though that I can edit the contents on a computer.
For school events the most convenient choice would be Flash Memory based units. Flash will also be easier to transfer video and faster to re-format. The memory captured footage is already in a editable format and there is less transfer time to the computer. MinidDV is a realtime transfer and you may have to have a Firewire (IEEE 1391) port on your computer to connect to the camcorder.

what is the difference of sd and flash?
Let’s define Flash Memory first. Flash memory is a type of memory that retains what is stored on it after power is removed. CF (Compact Flash), SD (Secure Data), xD (Extreme Digital Picture Card) and a host of others are all forms of Flash Memory. There is little difference other than physical size and speed.

Question of high definition cameras?

Do you need a high definition connection and tv and stuff to watch you video from a high definition camera or can you just have higher quality video with a high def camera and not have the full high def experience
You will get the best picture if you can connect using the HDMI connection. A High Def
Camcorder, recorded in HD, will still give you a slightly better image than a Standard Definition and some cropping may occur. But for best results try to match components.

how to transfer video movies to computer using Corel Application and how to burn to DVD?

I have a Canon HG10 camcorder and Toshiba satellite laptop. I am trying to follow the instruction/steps but still I cannot transfer and burn? Can somebody help me.
Which version of operating system are you using? Windows XP, Vista- Home –Premium-Ultimate? Some programs may need updated service packs installed in the operating system before they will run correctly. Also try changing the cable and the ports you are connecting with, sometimes this simple change can correct connection issues.
