What lens is best for sports for a Nikon D5000?

A zoom of up to 200mm or 300mm is a standard when it comes to sports photography.
A fast lens of f/2.8 helps get a good DOF (Depth Of Field) and freezes the action with use of higher shutter speeds.
Shown is the ideal lens and the budget solution.

Have an older minolta 35mm with zoom lens. Can this lens be used on digital camera?

If they are Auto Focus lenses your in luck. Most Minolta lenses work on Sony Alpha Digital-SLR cameras.
Due to the difference in size of a digital sensor compared to a 35mm film standard, there is a conversion factor of 1.6 that applies to film lenses used on most digital cameras.
This means, for example...a 50mm lens for SLR would work as a 80mm lens on a Digital-SLR.

how to transfer 8mm tapes to dvd

want to tranfer 8mm tapes to dvd-8mm digital wont play them,I think it's because they were recorded in a differnt format. Also can I still buy a 8mm camera?
8mm, Hi8 and Digital 8 are no longer available.
If the tapes are 8mm they should play in a Hi8 and Digital 8 camera. If they are Hi8 and Digital 8 recordings the wont play back on a 8mm camera and Digital will only play back on Digital 8 equipment.
Although the tapes look the same (and in some instances are) the format recorded is very different...especially the Digital 8.
You can probably find a used camcorder on line.

Which camera has the shortest delay?

Which digital camera has the shortest delay between when you push the button and the picture takes?
That delay is called "Shutter Lag Time". It is common complaint about compact cameras. It has improved a lot over the past years but for best results a Digital SLR is the fastest.
"Cycle Time" is the amount of time it takes for the cameras to processes, save and clear the buffer to capture the next picture. That is dependent on the settings of the camera and the processor speed.
Again...Digital-SLR cameras are the faster followed by Advanced Compact and slowest is Compact Cameras.

Looking for decent video camera under $300, any suggestions?

I have a few features in mind. I'm looking for a camera to record family events, such as my teenage son's band performances on the football field & in the stadium and inside for concerts and parades. Also, for our one year old's 1st birthday party and as she grows. I'm looking for something with a high optical zoom and a hard drive or flash memory. I don't want to deal with the mini-dvds. I want something that is easy to use and something that records well enough to transfer to DVD so we can send them to family out of state who will be watching on a 50"in TV. Any suggestions??
There is several camcorders that will work well for you. Some good ones to look at are:
The JVC Everio.
Panasonic SDR-S26K
Sony Handycam and other models
Sony and Panasonic would probably be the most durable and JVC the easiest to use.

why do i need manual mode

Cameras can take "Good" pictures in auto mode. OK exposure...OK focus and some unwanted motion blur. Just capturing the moment. Plus...auto takes longer to shoot...sometimes that moment is missed.

The difference between a "Snapshot" and a "Photograph" is having control not having decisions made for you.
By increasing the ISO you can reduce motion blur. By increasing the shutter speed and increasing more light through the aperture you can create shallow depth of field and get that soft focus behind your subject...this make your subject really stand out.
ALL cameras have a Auto mode be it a inexpensive compact or a professional Digital-SLR...but if manual is not there the options are taken away from you.

What is the difference between the Canon Rebel 10.1 or the 12.2 mp?

I am trying to decide which Canon Rebel I want to purchase. I am looking at the Canon Rebel 10.1 or the Canon Rebel 12.2? What is the difference between the 2? is there a noticable difference in the quality of picture? what should I look for in a DSLR camera?
The XSi has more than just 12.2 megapixels over the XS. It has a 3" LCD screen ..the XS is only 2.5", 11 auto focus points...XS is at 9, 14bt processing vs the 12 bit on the XS, spot metering mode where the XS has only partial.
There is still more. The XSi has many features that you'll probably want as your shooting needs grow. Will you notice a difference in image quality at this point...not really. Would you notice it later...yes..and probably wish you had gone with the XSi.
Things to look for in a Digital-SLR:
Fast burst mode..or..FPS(Frames Per Second) this is NOT movie mode. Look for a FPS of 5 and above for sports and action shots.
The higher the number of focus points the better.
More metering modes the better.

Does the camera include a charger?

I'm interested in the Casio - EXILIM 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black and want to know if the battery charger is included?
If a rechargeable battery is listed as included than either a battery charger is included or the battery recharges when the camera is plugged into the AC adapter.
