Which UV lenses for Nikon D3000?

Which UV lenses are best for Nikon D3000? Should I put them on all of the time or only when i'm outside to protect from dirt and sun?
Any good quality UV filter that fits the thread size is fine. The size of the thread is written on the lens (usually next to the glass on the inner ring) as a ## next to a circle with a / through it.
UV filters affect the image almost negligibly but should be put on and forgotten about and never taken off again except for cleaning. It is one of the best protection between the glass of your lens and the harshness of the out side world.
Try and get one for everyone of your lenes.
Dropping your lens with a UV filter could mean the difference between replacing a $11 peace of glass or a lens worth hundreds of dollars.

what is it called ? the time lapse between when i press the shutter and the actual picture is captured

Shutter speed is how fast the shutter "snaps"..such as 1/60 which is one 60th of a second or 1/500 which is one 500th of a second. This refers to how long the shutter stays open to expose the film or sensor.
I believe that what you are referring to is what is called "shutter lag".
It is the amount of time between when the shutter button is pushed, the camera sets the iris, speed of ISO, shutter speed, White Balance and then.....takes the picture(finally).

Choosing a DSLR

I utilize PhotoShop with the smaller digital we have but I'd like to take a step up and plan to go to photo school in the spring for personal use and not for professional use. I want a fast camera to use for movement and also good stills. What's the least I can expect to pay please?
Canon and Nikon both have entry level D-SLR cameras that capture motion in movie mode. The D5000 for Nikon and the T1i for Canon.
You can get in more economically without movie mode by going with Canon XS, Nikon D40 and D3000, and Sony a230.

Canon - EOS Digital Rebel XS 10.1-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black

Nikon - 10.2-Megapixel D3000 Digital SLR Camera - Black

Sony - Alpha 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black

Nikon D5000 or Canon T1i

I have been researching for over a month and can't decide! Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of the two?
Firstly...you can't go wrong with either camera.
At first glance...the Canon has many things over the Nikon.
More ISO options. Canon ISO 100-12,800 (wow!)
Nikon ISO 200-6400 (200?)
More MP (15 vs 12)
Larger Screen (3" vs 2.7")
Sharper Screen Resolution (920k vs 230k)
The only thing the Nikon has over the Canon is a tilt swivel monitor and some in camera editing filters. Editing your images is best done outside the camera to preserve the original image.
Just looking at the specs...it's Canon.

which cameras can you connect to a computer and use your monitor as a view finder???

what i mean is i have seen a camera connect to a computer and what the camera saw was on the computer monitor, similar to how a web cam works but it was a point and shoot digital camera.
For the camera to use an external monitor as a view finder the camera itself must first have live view capability. Secondly it needs to support porting out a streaming image by software and USB. Many of the mid to higher range compact cameras should support this.
Most D-SLR cameras will show you the image after it is taken and store it on the computer through the USB cable when tethered to the computer.

Can I use my Minolta AF 75-300 zoom with any new Digital SLR cameras?

Most Minolta auto focus lenses can be used with the Sony Alpha series D-SLR cameras.
Take your lens to your nearest BestBuy and ask to try it on one of the Demo cameras.

Fastest between shots

I want simple to use but a camera that recovers quickly and is ready to take the next shot
Most any of the entry level D-SLR cameras have a fast recovery or refresh rate. Some are a bit faster than others for continuous shooting modes.
The higher end D-SLR cameras will have a larger buffer and shoot at 5-6FPS (Frames Per Second) vs the entry level cameras at 3FPS.
Also the entry level cameras will take 3 to 6 shots and then have to wait to write all that image data before taking the next set of images. That might take several more seconds before shooting resumes. A higher end camera will have almost continuous shooting.

Autofocus Motors?

What is an autofocus motor? What happens if I buy a camera without an autofocus motor? Does it effect the types of lens I can buy? What are the drawback to not having one? I know which Nikon's have an autofocus motor, but does the Cannon Ti1 have an autofocus motor. Thanks.
Generally all newer Auto Focus lenses come with a auto focus motor. It is the small electric motor inside the lens that turns the focus ring internally to focus the lens.
It does effect what lens you can use in that a manual focus lens probably won't work without a adapter.
