Great Air Purifier

Really impressed with this air purifier from Blue Air. It came well packaged for shipping and setup included putting on the fabric pre-filter and removing a couple stickers. That's about it! Took maybe 5 minutes to unbox, setup and plug in. The control is on top in the center and is easy to use and understand. It's a round pad with 3 indicator lights. Touch it once, and it will light up whatever mode it's in. Then touch it again to change the mode. First touch is Auto, which lights up all 3 lights. Then you can cycle through manual fan settings 1-2-3, with 3 being the highest setting, and loudest. I believe it's called Boost Mode.
I leave it on Auto most of the time and even in a perfectly quiet room you can barely hear it from a few feet away. There is a sensor on the back that detects the air quality and adjusts the fan speed as necessary. The small light on the front tells you the quality of your air (Blue = Good, Yellow = Moderate, Red = Poor). If you're in Auto mode and you have Yellow or Red showing, the fan will speed up to pull more air and filter it. If you're Blue, the fan runs at a very low speed. Sometimes during the day, if I'm not going to be around, I will manually set it to Boost mode and let it run for a while. We have a somewhat open floor plan and the first floor is probably around 550sqft after deducting closets, bathroom, etc. I can honestly say that when this has been running in Boost for a few hours, you can feel a slight temperature drop and a breeze in almost the entire downstairs area, even in a room around the corner. If I ever had any doubts about how much air it can move, they were put to rest the first time I did Boost.
There are no wheels but this is very lightweight and easy to move around. The top comes off by pressing the two buttons on the side so you can access the filter to replace it. Depending on air quality and use, they recommend replacing it every 6 months. The filter is $70 (or $59.50 with a subscription) so your annual running cost is $119 - $140 plus electricity. That's about 33-38 cents per day to have better air quality, and for people with allergies or living in cities, that's well worth it.
It comes with a greyish fabric pre-filter that looks modern and fits well in most rooms. If you want it to pop a little more or match certain colors, you can buy additional ones for $10 and switch them out as much as you want. They come in Green, Light Grey, Blue and a reddish Pink. These fabric pre-filters have a compartment built in that hides the power cord as well. When they get dirty you can throw them in the washer.
Overall, this is a great air purifier with reasonable maintenance costs. The purifier pulls air from every direction, so you can place it just about anywhere in the room as long as it has 4" of space from the nearest object. It looks good so you shouldn't feel like you have to hide it anyway. Very easy to setup and operate, looks nice and works great. Not sure what else I can say!

Nice set of dumbbells for home use

Love these 20lb Tru Grit dumbbells for home workout, especially with all the gyms closed down right now. The rubber coating is extremely helpful because it won't damage your floors as much as metal would, so you don't necessarily need to buy something extra to set them on. They have a nice grip, although they do get a little slippery if you have sweaty hands. If you have a pair of workout gloves they would solve this. They do have a strong smell out of the box but that's normal and it goes away after a few days. If you have the ability, I recommend leaving them in the garage or basement for 2-3 days so they can air out. Overall, these are great and I recommend them to anyone looking to workout at home!

This is my first DJI drone, coming from a parrot anafi, and the difference is staggering. DJI's app is easier to use and more intuitive with better controls; the form factor and design of the drone is better executed; the controller and packaging are way better and the range blows the competition out of the water!
The Fly More Combo is a fantastic value so I highly recommend going that route if you are considering this drone. The carrying case is nice quality and has storage for the drone, batteries, charger, controller, along with all the cables and spare parts with room to spare. I also keep the old phone I've converted to my drone controller in there and still have room. The battery charger is an elegant solution. It houses all 3 batteries at once and has indicator lights showing where the charge is on each as they all charge at the same time keeping you ready to fly.
The drone itself weighs almost nothing and is about the size of your palm folded up, making it extremely portable. But even with that light weight, it holds it's own in winds up to 25mph. I flew it at almost 400ft in 15-20mph winds and had no issues with control or taking stable shots. And this thing takes beautiful shots and video in 4k resolution, with 2x lossless zoom and 4x digital zoom. I recommend taking the full picture and cropping it later for best results but you can zoom if you prefer. You can also take panorama, 180 or sphere photos. Want some cool video effects? Try boomerang, circle, rocket, helix and dronie modes. Literally unbelievable how many things you can do with this small drone.
Taking off is as easy as touching a button. When it lifts off, it will rise to 3-4ft and hover in place and record that spot. From that point on, when you're ready to have the drone come back to you, just hit the Return to Home button and it will return to that spot. One thing to note, this drone does NOT have obstacle avoidance, so make sure you set the altitude you want the drone to return at to avoid trees or other obstacles. If the biggest thing around you is a 100ft tree stand, set the RTH at 150ft to be safe. That will keep it at that altitude until it's directly overhead it's RTH spot, at which point it will come straight down.
If you haven't flown a drone before, the tutorials built into the app are outstanding for teaching the basics and about some of the more advanced features. They include videos and step by step instructions, so definitely check them out if you're new to drone flying.
My last drone would lose signal at 350ft and 50-75yds down range. This one, under the same conditions, went over a mile away at 400ft and showed no signs of signal loss. The OcuSync technology vs the old wi-fi tech is night and day. This is especially important if you're flying in an area with lots of wi-fi or other radio interference, such as suburban areas or cities. And you don't need to register this drone with the FAA or go through any licensing. It's size and weight don't qualify it for that. The geofencing technology built in will also help beginners with not taking off in restricted zones or violating airspace using the built in GPS.
Overall, I can't recommend this drone highly enough for just about anyone. It takes amazing photos and videos, handles the wind fantastically for it's size and weight, and the new OcuSync 2.0 technology is legit. This is hands down the best drone you will find at this price point or below, and it's better than some others above this price point. Unless you're a professional who needs something crazy for commercial use, this is the drone you should buy.

My entire first floor is hardwood and there is tile in each of the 3 bathrooms. Getting them clean has always consisted of a swiffer wet jet or, when there's a mess, getting down on hands and knees and wiping it up with a cleaner and paper towels. This solves both problems in a compact, high tech package.
I have a golden retriever so the floors are vacuumed almost daily. I have used this 1x per week since I got it because it's so simple to use and does such a great job. It doesn't just push things around like the swiffer, it vacuums up any dirt or pet hair and mops the floor at the same time. The digital indicator bar on top shows you battery life and turns from blue to red if you're in a high dirt area, going back to blue when it's not detecting anymore dirt. Battery life is impressive. I've easily been able to complete the downstairs with battery left over (roughly 750sqft).
Emptying the water chamber and filling it are easy and there is a removable plastic "filter" that will snag the dog hair so it doesn't get into the water and go down your drain. It's charging base goes completely under the unit because once you're done, you empty the dirty water, put some fresh water in, and have it self clean. That's right, it self cleans!! The fresh water flushes out the lines and cleans the brush head, saving you a lot of work.
It comes with an extra filter and brush head, along with a multi use tool to help with cleaning and maintenance. There is a companion app but I deleted it after checking the firmware because it required a lot of permissions and I didn't think a vacuum app needs constant location access among other things. The display on top of the device tells you pretty much everything you need to know so unless you want to remotely monitor the status of self clean or start it cleaning remotely, the app isn't needed.
Overall, I never heard of Tineco before this and I am very impressed. It is in line with other high end vacuum companies. I highly recommend this to anyone that has hardwood or tile and is tired of using mops or wipes.

Easy to use, sleek electric toothbrush
on October 22, 2020

This is a really cool step away from the electric toothbrushes that are expensive and can be pretty aggressive in their cleaning. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with those options because there are a lot of people who want that and those brushes have some neat features not found here. However, if you're looking for a great looking electric brush that gets the job done and isn't bulky or overpowering, this is it.
The app that it pairs with is easy to use and it tracks your history of brushing and rewards you with points for hitting 2min, keeping a streak going, etc. You can use those points for things like gift cards or redeem them for your next brush head replacement. Speaking of that, Quip has a cool program where you sign up and every 3 months they automatically ship you a new brush head and AAA battery. It costs $5+tax every 3 months but shipping is free and the first refill you get is free. This is great because you should be changing out your brush regularly and this takes the guesswork out of it and keeps your brushing experience at the level it should be. Also, considering what most toothbrushes and batteries cost, $5 every 3 months isn't bad. That part is totally optional but I highly recommend setting it up if you're enjoying the brush.
The brush came in the box with an instruction booklet (seems rare to get these with electronics anymore). The brush itself was nicely packaged inside a tube with a sticker to ensure it hadn't been tampered with. There is a small holder that comes with the brush. It's barely bigger around than the base. It has a sticky side on the back so it can be attached to a mirror in your bathroom. It says you can stick and unstick it, but I don't know how many times that will last before the sticky wears out. This also doubles as a travel cover for the brush head which is a cool and minimalistic approach.
The brush does a great job cleaning your teeth. It's definitely effective and it does a vibration to tell you to move on to the next part of your mouth so you don't spend too long or too little time in one area. Overall, I'd say the performance is better than a manual brush and most of the cheap-o battery powered brushes, but a step below the most powerful and expensive options out there. The brush is light-weight, feels great in hand and the handle isn't large or bulky. There are no options at the moment for brush heads that are Stiff or Extra Soft or Whitening or any of that. It's a Medium brush head with some soft rubber teeth around the edge to help along the gum line. This will be fine for most people especially once you learn the right pressure to apply, with the help of the brush and the app.
Also, being the most powerful with the most brush head options really isn't really the point of Quip. You can have the most powerful toothbrush on Earth and not use it regularly or only once a day, and it's not helping you. Quip is designed to make it easy and fun to brush and reward you for doing it to establish a healthy routine. I think it's great for anyone, but it would probably be really great for parents who are trying to get their kids to brush regularly. Just think how much effort they'll put in if they know they'll be able to earn a gift card to their favorite store! Also, the parents can track their brushing via the app and make sure they're doing it correctly.
Overall, I highly recommend this brush to anyone, but I think it would be ideal for kids, teens and young adults to help them establish a routine and to make sure they're getting a new brush head regularly without having to think about it. The app is great and makes it fun to brush and the rewards are a nice perk.

Great sound, small footprint
on October 4, 2020
Posted by: cusedice
from Syracuse, NY
Bose never seems to disappoint when it comes to their soundbars and this is no exception. Normally I'd be concerned with how much sound quality I was going to get out of a speaker this size but this Bose can get loud and stays clear. Like most Bose, it is balanced a little to the Bass side of things, but the clarity and crispness of voices when watching TV is outstanding. There is an option via the app for Dialogue Mode, which would probably be great for people who want this primarily for better sound from their TV and mostly watch news or talk shows. There are also adjustments in the app for Center, Bass and Treble.
All controls for the soundbar need to be done through the app, the included remote control or voice assistant (but more on that later). I'm slightly disappointed that there aren't any physical buttons, or at least capacitive touch areas, for volume and power. Not a deal breaker and it helps keep the sleek, smooth look. Plus the remote is a great size and very simple. Since I have it hooked up to the TV via HDMI Arc, the TV remote controls the volume automatically, so I rarely touch the Bose remote unless I'm streaming music. There is an optical cable included and you can connect to your TV that way if you prefer.
The speaker comes with rubber feet and does NOT include a wall mounting kit. That's a half star deduction for me because at this price, that shouldn't even be up for discussion as something that needs to be in the box. If you want to wall mount this sound bar, you'll need purchase the $40 kit from Bose. Really? $40 for two L brackets and some screws? My setup is for a wall mount, so I had no choice on this one. Also, the kit isn't designed for this new sound bar yet, so you'll have to do your own measurements as the included guide won't line up. If you do wall mount it, you have to remove the rubber feet to access the screw hole for the mount. Also note, if you wall mount this, go into the app and flip the setting for Wall EQ. Mounting it was pretty easy and it looks great, but the brackets need to be in the box.
A quick note about the app, if you already have some Bose products in your household. There are 3 different Bose apps on my phone now. One is Bose Music, which is required for this soundbar. Then I have Bose Soundtouch for my other Bose soundbar. And then I have Bose Connect for my headphones. Why Bose just keeps creating new apps for their new products instead of incorporating them into an existing app, I don't understand. It's annoying to have multiple apps for the same functions on Bose products, especially when they're only separated by a year or 2.
The other half star deduction for me is the Google integration, or lack of it. I'm hoping that this will be addressed in a firmware update, but right now this soundbar has a lot of functionality with Alexa that it does not have with Google. It shows up in my Google Home app as a speaker but doesn't do much else. You can't link it to the other smart speakers in the house and I can't use Google to change channels or any of the other features they advertise for Alexa. You can tell it to start streaming or change the volume, but that's about it. At this point it's easier to just use the app and start playing what you want. This could be easily fixed in an update, so if Bose is reading this, get r done!
If you have other Bose speakers in the home (the compatibility list is online) you can group them to this soundbar and have multi-room sound which is an awesome feature for get togethers. You can also link certain Bose headphones to them if you want to watch TV while someone is sleeping.
Overall, it's a very cool speaker and it does a lot of things right. Not including the wall mount kit and the lack of Google integration are the downsides for me. The app is fine, but I don't like that they have 3 apps now instead of just one to control everything. Sound is very good and it doesn't take up a lot of room. I like the smart features and am hopeful they'll address Google in an update. Quality is top notch, as always and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great looking, great sounding solution to home TV. You can also punch it up a bit with surround speakers or the bass module if you want a great home theater solution. I have the bass module for my other Bose soundbar and I can attest to how much bass they produce in case you're wondering if it's worth the upgrade.
Great job Bose!

Solid Robot Vac
on September 19, 2020
Posted by: cusedice
from Syracuse, NY
I've been using a samsung powerbot for the past couple of years and the Roomba i3, which has fewer frills and is less expensive, blows the powerbot out of the water. We have a Golden Retriever so having a reliable robot vacuum that can run once a day is a huge help.
You'll want to download the Roomba app before you set-up the robot. Unboxing the Roomba is an easy experience compared to others. It's well packaged but the unit itself isn't covered in plastic stickers you have to peel off and it's fully assembled and ready to go right out of the box. Pick a spot that has good Wi-Fi signal and isn't a tight, crowded space to plug in and set the base. You'll need to put the Roomba on the base to wake it up. Then use the app to complete the setup. The app itself is very easy to use and intuitive. After each cleaning it will show you a map of where it cleaned and where it couldn't get to. There is a setting in the app called Map Privacy where you can turn off this feature if you have privacy concerns. Overall, easy setup and app is simple with a clean interface.
The i3 doesn't have all the lasers and cameras that higher end robot vacs have for super accurate mapping. It uses something called "Reactive sensor technology", which is probably a fancy way of saying it recognizes where it can't go when it bumps into something. However, unlike other robots that just bump around and clean at random, the i3 uses a technology to vacuum in neat lines and if it bumps into an object, it finds it's way around the object, then continues on the same line of cleaning on the other side. For example, we have an island in the kitchen. When it is traveling in a straight line, and it runs into the island, it finds it's way around the island and when it gets to the same point on the other side of the island, it turns and keeps going in that straight line. I've also noticed that after it does an area and figures out where the edges are, it goes back and does a quick pass so the edge brush can hit the edges.
The round shape and size allow it to get into a lot of spaces our previous vac couldn't. It also has no problem going from hardwood to our area rug in the living room. The last vac couldn't get up onto the rug so we always had to pick it up and place it on the rug which was a hassle. The i3 figures out obstacles, gets itself unstuck by being able to rotate 360, and gets the job done. You can set it up so that it keeps going if the dust bin is full, or it will go back to the base and wait for you to empty it. Then it will return to the exact spot it stopped cleaning and finish the job. The Roomba will also make suggestions like running twice a day when it's allergy season or peak shedding time for your dog.
You can also set the Roomba to run on a schedule, so you can run it while you're sleeping if you prefer. I can honestly say it's at least 50% quieter than the powerbot we've been using. If I'm upstairs, I often can't hear it downstairs unless it's near the bottom of the stairs. There are 3 buttons on the top of the robot (Home, Clean, Spot). The spot clean feature is if you spill something and just need that area cleaned up. Just place the robot in the middle of the mess and push the Spot button. The robot will clean that immediate area by going over it a couple of times.
The fabric on the top of the Roomba is also a really nice departure from the shiny plastic that most vacs have that are dust magnets. It looks great and keeps the robot looking clean. The dust bin is easy to pop out and dump with the push of a button. If you have a dog or cat, make sure you pop off the filter and tap it a few times over the garbage can to keep it clean. Hitting it with some compressed air every now and then will probably add to the longevity of the filter but do not wash it or get it wet. The dust bin can be rinsed out by hand but the filter can not get wet.
The Roomba i3 also integrates Google and Alexa. I have Google and after adding it to through the Google Home app, having the Roomba run is as easy as saying "Hey Google, tell Roomba to start cleaning". I personally love this feature because it means I don't have to go over and push the Clean button or pull out my phone, open the app, scroll down a little and tap on clean. Not that any of those options are huge inconveniences, but if I'm upstairs or don't have my phone right with me, it's a great feature to have.
Overall, this is a great robot vac, especially at this price point for a Roomba. There are cheaper robot vacs out there but they might not have the integration, support and easy to get replacement parts that the Roomba brand carries. It does everything I want and it's simple to use. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a no frills, easy to use robot vacuum.

The sound is incredible!

Received these earbuds fully charged right out of the box. They paired quickly and easily via bluetooth and I downloaded the Sennheiser Smart Control app to customize the earbuds before taking them for a spin. The app allows you to adjust the EQ to your liking and customize the tap controls for each bud. The app is very simple and easy to use which is always appreciated.
I was BLOWN AWAY by the sound quality when I started listening to music. These have deep bass and are clear on mids and highs. They also get loud and, although they don't have noise cancelling, they fit snuggly in the ear and block out most outside noise. Not necessarily a bad thing because it's good to be able to hear cars approaching, ambulances, trains, etc if you're wearing these walking around town. Overall, I am completely impressed with the sound quality vs other wireless earbuds I've owned in a similar price point.
Touch controls and gestures are easy to use due to the size of the earbuds and with how much they stick out. So if you're looking for a discreet, sleek look, this isn't it. They are blocky looking, but that's a style choice. Personally, I don't have an issue with the way the design because the slightly larger size gives them great sound and makes the controls easy to use. They also fit comfortably and didn't feel heavy or like they were going to fall out.
Call quality is good and the person on the other end was able to hear me clearly, even with some outdoor ambient noise that the microphone did a good job blocking out.
The only reason I deducted a star was because there is no water resistance, meaning no sweat resistance. Granted, Sennheiser had to make some compromises to get the price $100 lower than their other earbuds and keep the same sound. But this is one feature that I think every wireless earbud should always have. If you plan on using these for working out or doing yard work, you'll probably need to look for something else.
However, if you're looking for something for the office, walking around town, travel or any situation that will avoid sweat, water or rain, these sound incredible and are easy to use with an intuitive companion app. I highly recommend them for those reasons. If they had water resistance, they'd be 5 stars all the way.

Solid Waterproof BT Speaker
on August 1, 2020

Had this unboxed, connected to my BT and playing music within minutes. It had about half a charge on it out of the box. Just hold down the primary multi-function button on the top of a second or two to turn it on. Classic Marshall design and a nice touch where it plays a guitar riff when you turn it on and off. Feels light weight and durable at the same time. It carries an IPX7 waterproof rating, which means it can be submerged in up to 3ft of water for 30 minutes. Essentially this means it's dust proof and if you drop it in the water it'll be fine. Great for taking to the beach without worrying about sand getting in.
In terms of sound, I'm docking it one star because it doesn't have the same sound quality as others in this price point. Bass is lacking a bit, but don't get me wrong, this thing can get loud. It's impressive for a waterproof design, it's just not the best I've heard. I did notice an improvement if you can put it with the back towards a solid surface, about 3-5" away. Because of the multi-directional way this speaker puts out music, giving it something to bounce off of gives it an even deeper sound quality.
Overall, this is a solid BT speaker at this price point. The sound is very good, not the best, but very good, especially for having the waterproof/dustproof qualities. Also, the design is way better looking than most of the other waterproof BT speakers out there. This thing just looks cool and sounds good. It's easy to setup and use, has great battery life and includes a USB charging cable. I would recommend to anyone looking for a lightweight, durable speaker that looks great and can produce loud, good quality sound.

Solid 3 in 1 printer for home use
on June 28, 2020

This was an upgrade to my existing HP Envy 4500 that I've had for years. That printer still worked, but would no longer connect to Wifi with the new mesh system due to the Wifi standards changing. So far I am very happy with the new Envy 6055! This is my 3rd HP printer in 18 years and the only reason I've ever had to get a new one is that they end up being out of date after 6-7 years as technology improves. They all still worked when I upgraded, so that's more about me wanting new features than a problem with the printers. In my experience, HP printers are good quality for the value and this new Envy 6055 seems to have been built in that same mold.
If you're coming from another HP printer like I am, you'll already be used to the HP Smart app and the controls. If you're new to HP, you'll want to download the app before you setup the printer because you'll need it to complete the setup process. The setup was very quick and easy. After unboxing and getting all the tape off, I plugged it in. When the light glows Purple, you're ready to setup. Open the app, connect to the printer and it does most of the work for you. You'll need to install the 2 ink cartridges that are included in the box and it walks you through that as well with pictures. Connecting to the Wifi was easy and everything was up and running within about 5 minutes of plugging it in.
The new design is nice with an all white look that is more modern and hopefully won't show fingerprints and dust as much as the older, all black plastic printers did. I like the tray setup for the paper but wish it had a little more capacity. Not a deal breaker for me as we don't do a ton of printing but it might be an issue for heavy users. All of the "buttons" are capacitive, meaning they are a flat area on the tray and the area you touch lights up when you need to do something. Nice and sleek. You can go into the settings through the app and adjust the brightness of the lights. I noticed that the Wifi light stays on all the time so if that's going to bother you, you'll need to turn the printer off when not in use.
Printing quality is excellent for a home printer, especially at this price point. Scanning works well, just be aware there is no "feed" option for scanning. It has to be done one page at a time or one photo at a time, but the app can walk you through scanning so the pages end up in the order you want within one document. Again, not a problem for the amount I use the scanner, but power users might want an option with a feed so they don't have to do things one at a time.
This printer also comes with 2 months free of HP Instant Ink. If you're not familiar, this is a subscription service where your printer will automatically tell HP when it's running low based on your usage and ink will be mailed to you. There are different levels of subscription depending on your usage and it makes it much cheaper than buying ink at the store. There is even a FREE option if you print less than 15 pages a month. So if you are looking for a printer for light home use and want free ink for the life of the printer, this is a really nice offer from HP.
The app itself could use some updating and I'd like to see HP put some effort into that now that almost everything is done through the app. It's a bit wonky and sometimes you have to click through a few different areas to find what you need, but overall it works. It's just not as smooth as it should be by this point.
Overall, I really have no complaints with this printer that would keep me from recommending it to family or friends. If you're looking for a good, all around 3 in 1 unit that won't break the bank and offers plenty of features and good quality printing while looking great in your home or office, I definitely recommend the Envy 6055.

Improve your audio experience with this Samsung three-channel soundbar. This unit, which has a built-in subwoofer, channels high-resolution full-spectrum sound and eliminates the need for an extra bass speaker. Use 4K pass-through to connect your Blu-ray player or other UHD device to the Samsung three-channel soundbar for stunning multi-channel audio and a clear picture.

I own a Vizio 50" (Model #M50-C1) 4K Ultra HD LED TV. My question is will this soundbar work with my TV? Based on the reviews, this seems like an awesome sound bar.

I don't see why not. You TV has an HDMI (ARC) port and an optical audio output. Either method would work just fine. The HDMI (ARC) connection is preferred because it will have the soundbar turn on when the TV is turned on and off when you turn it off. It also allows the TV remote to control the soundbar level.
