Logitech's Best Keyboard in non Black/Grey!

I love seeing manufacturers like Logitech getting in on the inclusion bandwagon, and this keyboard went over very well in my house with one of my kiddos. Using Logitech's tried and true mechanical mechanisms, and the same setup with a scroll bar, G Hub programmable lights, and getting it down to a ten -keyless form factor, with the arrow keys off to the right, is an awesome combination here! The build is solid and feels well made. A combination of heavy plastics and some metal components make for heavy duty feeling keyboard. The options to be both wired or wireless are appreciated when you want to ensure there are ZERO sources of lag in your system. The included palm rest is.... a design choice for sure. For the most part it matches and works well with the keyboard though. G hub software is easy to get set up and running, and then to apply patterns/syncing with other things to make the lights "your own." This is also the first time I've seen a keyboard with a replaceable face plate like this, and I like the idea. I hope it doesn't come loose, but so far so good!

Affordable Kids Bluetooth with Wired option

These headphones fall into a bit of black hole in terms of "kids" headphones as a category. I find I have one little one that has a head big enough to be considered adult and not kid, and this sometimes leads to some confusion. It would be awesome to see some manufacturers put a finer point on the size ranges of their kids headphones. These headphones are not the most heavy duty feeling, and the head band feels a little suspect to me. Hopefullly helpful to their longevity is the metal extending arms that give you full extension on the ear cups, and folding/hinged ear pieces as well. That means you can fold these headphones up fairly tight and stuff them in a backpack without them breaking or getting crushed. I would love to see a rotating/hinge added for the ear cups to allow them to also rotate flat for storage. Something that is OFTEN missing from kids headphones, and I have no idea why other than cost cutting, is the ability to add a hard wired audio cable. This set includes that ability AND can piggyback to another set of headphones with a share port. The two ports aren't labeled, and there's a possibility that they work in either direction, which would be convenient, but they're not labeled as such. The inclusion of bluetooth for wireless is a nice feature even if sometimes a little clunky to pair/re-pair with devices. I didn't have high hopes for the audio and they lived up to what I expected. No noise cancelling and stiff ear cups that are not very forgiving for different ear sizes/shapes round out the fit and finish of these headphones. I know they can be better, but also, if your kids are hard on them, it might not be worth the cost to go more expensive, and just keep replacing with similar ones.

Ninja continues to eliminate multiple appliances

Ninja continues to iterate and evolve their take on what we've all come to know as the "instant pot" that integrates a slow cooker, pressure cooker, air fryer, countertop griddle and oven. This model clocks in at the usual "large" size of 6qt with LOTS of modes. Sometimes it feels like almost too many. The Ninja menus can be a little confusing as they nest many of the specialty modes under other names, but you'll eventually get there with the up and down arrow buttons. The size of this unit feels specifically designed to fit on the countertop under your cabinets. The placement of the vents and other parts are more friendly to that than other models are. The footprint of these products is NOT small, and you have to be ready for that, but you might already be if you're shopping for multi-cookers. When it comes to the modes and how well it cooks, the Speedi does its job competently and well. I DO wish that the Speedi had a delay timer with a clock, so that I could load it up with food and set it to be finished at a certain time of day, however this type of cooker also isn't really designed for unattended cooking. The included accessories round out almost all of the options for cooking modes and types of foods. I have a go to Tikka Masala chicken and rice that I tested this with, and it met with approval from the entire family.

Taking the "Calm app" idea to the next level

In the post/mid covid world, or whatever we're calling these times, self care seems to be more normalized than ever before. The Homedics sand table I feel falls right in the middle of those luxury products that you might consider essential to your self care. The 21-inch sand table is big. Larger than you might expect. I haven't measured it but I think the 21-inch dimension is the actual sand surface, and not the outside dimensions of the entire table, which is a welcome thing! Just be aware when you plan for where you're going to put this thing. Setup was exceedingly easy and the download and pairing with the app also went smoothly. I found the preset colors of the system to be a little jarring, and not "quite" calming, but I did also quickly discover that those are customizable. If I have any complaints about this product, there are 2, and they speak directly to the "meditation" part of this device. The steel ball bearing that makes the patterns in the sand while being dragged by the internal magnet, can be a little noisy. The depth of the sand layer is shockingly thin, and the sand is layered over a fabric surface. I believe the noise to be friction between the ball and the fabric. There might be some remedy for this by cleaning or shifting the sand around, I have not tried yet. The other issue I have with this is sort of fundamental, and strongly affects where you will be able to place the meditation table, and that is the power setup. I don't know if something like this is even feasible with battery power, but I did find myself wanting to put it down farther, like on a coffee table, and forgetting that I had to have it plugged in. There is the traditional wall wart and power cord leading to the device to power it up. Not expected, and appreciated in the design is the glass cover that keeps my kids, dog, and sometimes me from messing with the ball in motion, or the patterns in the table itself. The app is fairly easy to use, and has lots of downloadable patterns and light schemes. Your phone also doesn't need to be continually connected to the device, but it does need to upload the entire design to the table.

Nicely made frame, Doesn't need a paywall

Digital photo frames seem to come in a VERY wide variety of construction, loading methods, and quality. We've all given our mom's a cheap one for christmas only to regret it later. The nixplay is nicely featured and is paired with a worthwhile cloud service that takes the guesswork out of loading photos onto it from the cloud, as well as options for landscape OR portrait modes. Coupled with a very nice screen and a decent built in stand, and this stacks up to be a christmas gift for mom that she's not asking you to come over and fix. Some of the features that have always plagued digital photo frames have been anticipated and fixed here - schedules for on and off times, motion detection so that it's not on displaying photos for an empty room, and the ability to overlay time and date info to turn this into a budget wall display, are all things that elevate this photo frame above others. One thing that makes me immediately start to knock off the stars? Charging me for things in the app or the cloud that are behind a paywall after the purchase of a decently priced, but still a chunk of change, device. Most if not all of the advanced and editing features of the cloud service to load the frame is locked behind the Nixplay+ subscription. Yes Nixplay+ does give you up to 50g of cloud storage and the ability to manage a number of these frames, which could come in handy if that is somehow the niche you fall into. Otherwise it just looks greedy. I'd rather they allow their free service to connect with one of the cloud storage providers I already have subscribed to and not try to gouge me some more after this is up and running. There is bit of user un-friendliness to the UI, but after you figure it out it's okay to navigate. Overall it's decently made, stays connected and trouble free... you just have to stomach that subscription service to fully take advantage of what you just bought for mom.

Mid range gaming contender w/ design quirks

This laptop is the first Dell that I've had in my hands for quite some time, and they have definitely weathered the reduction in PC manufacturers and the pandemic with flying colors. This G15 fits what I understood their gaming series to consist of, which are mostly business laptops with upgraded components. This one in particular is strangled by only have 8gb of RAM, which isn't enough in 2022 and running windows 11, unfortunately. The build is solid business fare, but clocking in a little on the chunky side for thickness and weight. The added red backlit keys are nice, but somehow only serve to make this laptop look more like something you brought home from work. Full disclosure, I had no idea I was so hung up on the appearance of gaming laptops until I started using this one. Even the marbled light colored plastic with red accents struck me as a little off. One advantage the chunkiness does bring is room for cooling, and that's apparent in the placement of the rear exhaust grills, that take up a fair amount of space where I would have expected more connectivity on the sides. In fact, this brings me to the next thing that causes me so much concern on this laptop - the number of ports that stick straight off the back of this laptop. In most of my desk, temporary desk, or other setups, I don't like having cables that plug into the rear of the laptop and then stick STRAIGHT out to the rear. Unfortunately this includes the single USB-C slot and the HDMI and Power connections. There are 2 USB-A ports on the side, which is appreciated, but having all those ports through the rear of the chunky case is a major annoyance. Graphics performance is admirable with the Nvidia RTX3050 mobile, and while the SSD is on the small side at 0.5 TB, it's still plenty fast enough to keep up with loading games, audio, and cut scenes to be appreciated. The 8gb of RAM still makes this unit fall down however, and I feel it any time the fans start to spin faster.

Smart locks are smarter + Camera + Doorbell!

After having taken the time to install doorbell cameras previously on my home and some of my extended family members, I felt silly when I discovered that this existed. In a move of genius, Lockly has combined a deadbolt, doorbell, and camera into one slick unit. While I had not heard of Lockly prior to installing this unit, it did feel well made and as solid as other units I've dealt with from longer standing lock company brands (who will remain unnamed here) There are a couple of ways that Lockly has gone out of their way here to make their product smarter and more convenient than others. First there are almost TOO many ways you can lock and unlock this deadbolt - Fingerprints! Keys! Codes! e-keys/bluetooth! all the options!. I really thought that the feature that randomizes the numbers onto the keypad in combinations to keep someone from observing your code, is a master feature that I can't believe no one else has used before. Instead of standard AA batteries, they've included a usb rechargeable battery to power this lock, and a mini solar panel to help keep it charged. I enjoyed that the solar panel is also the hidey panel for the key slot. Also not something I've observed in other locks, but included here, is a sensor telling you what position the door is in, so no more worrying if the door is swinging in the wind or not. Installation instructions were straightforward and the install video that Lockly has provided is well thought out and thorough, as well as the instructions in the BILT app are very worthwhile. The inclusion of a camera and the doorbell brings this lock to an entirely new level. I was a little disappointed that this is only an HD camera and not 2k or higher. The Ai on the camera has some of the same caveats as other battery powered security cameras, and perhaps not quite as good at alerts/false alarms as some of the more established brands. The good news is that this is purely software driven and fixable in app updates, but for now it's not as quite as reliable. I wasn't necessarily excited about having ANOTHER adapter to plug into my switch to get internet, but overall I understand that having their own secure communications between the deadbolt and the internet makes it more secure to use. Just a caveat to be aware of. The ability to access my lock via the web in their access portal is also very handy for those times my phone might be dead or not handy. This lock is well thought out and putting some of the existing time tested brands to shame. I would have liked to see a few less plastic parts in the lock itself to feel just a touch more secure out it physically, but overall it seems well made. Minor comments, but the doorbell itself is kind of buried in what feels like a sea of buttons, some of my family members were uncertain if they should be pushing it or not. Also, one thing this doesn't take into account is if you have a screen door with any substance to it it's likely to block the view of the camera. Also with a camera mounted to the door, the camera swings WITH the door when it's opened and closed.

Fast Wifi 6 without breaking the bank

As the Wifi 6 devices start to roll out, so do the Wifi 6 routers! If you are not in the market for a mesh system, this router has solid range and performance and is worth your consideration. Sporting a decent amount of high speed LAN ports as well as a WAN port and a USB port, it has the usual complement of connectivity that I expect from higher end routers. As TP Link's performance brand, the Archer AX3000 did not disappoint on that front. Also new for me while installing and managing this router is the current state of TP Link's app and built in management features. While I'm a little dubious of their ability to capture ALL of the potential sites that someone could stumble into or seek out that could be nefarious, the built in security settings that are centered around keeping your family safe, and blocking or filtering categories of sites and content seemed thoughtful and well organized. I especially liked the security controls per device, allowing me to set the age for the viewer and block or allow content. I did not get the opportunity to test the link aggregation capabilities of the device, but I know that they're there, and I intend to do some reconfiguring to my home network in an attempt to take advantage of that feature to speed up connection to an in-home attached storage device. Antiviral and Quality of Service controls that allow me to prioritize my streaming devices, are also necessary features you should be looking for in a Wifi6 router. Overall web browsing speed was noticeably faster over my previous aging router that this replaced. A few cons were that it did take me a minute to get it configured and had to reset it at least once during setup. Also the router gets quite hot while running, which may be a function of it's higher powered processor. I find this to be a solid Wifi6 router, and would recommend it as the hub for any home network looking to upgrade speeds and technology. Some other reviewers have commented on some of the management features potentially expiring based on a trial basis, however everything that I've dug into on mine indicates that the features are here to stay and are free, however you may want to do your own research on this topic. I hope future versions increase the usability and solve some of the lagging issues that always seem to be present in first gen technology.

Lower cost child focused hoverboard

This kit came as a combo with both Hover-1's kid focused hoverboard and includes a hoverboard and the go kart attachment. This product appears to be well made for a quasi outdoor vehicle, and durable enough to last through a number of hard uses by kids. This particular scooter is speed limited to 5mph and 80lbs. I find this to be quite limiting and my son at age 7 is already probably too big for this scooter, or finds that it doesn't quite have enough power to do what he wants to do with it. I found the go cart attachment to also be a little on the small side, and less durable feeling than the hoverboard itself. The two pieces attach with velcro straps that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Researching their website reveals that other models are slightly larger, have larger ratings, and are faster/more powerful. After the face I would have preferred that this was a fully powered model that I was able to limit the speed on, instead of being under powered and becoming outgrown so quickly. This product does was it's intended, and the inclusion of the go cart attachment makes this product friendly for smaller children who's balance might be in question for using it in the "hoverboard" way. The slot for the size children that this is intended for is quite narrow however.

Uncomplicated Connected Thermostat

Emerson's take on the internet connected thermostat is a solid entry into the market. Sensi thermostats have been around for 5+ years and the design has not changed significantly, but the software and apps have caught up to and maybe even include some features that others do not. Installation was easy enough for me, since I've already pulled a C-wire for my older furnace that did not have a c wire pulled from it originally. Connections were simple and clear to make. I've come to expect an extended period of time for devices like these to connect to your wifi, but it did connect and has stayed connected with no blips or disconnections. My only reason for not scoring this thermostat 5 stars is the somewhat dated appearance of the bezel/surround - the arched shape isn't as slick as some others. The app downloads and installs just as one would expect, as well as creating an account and getting logged in. The Emerson App does have a few neat things I've not seen in other placed (not to say they don't exist) like monthly summaries, and a feature referred to as "temperature offset" This lets you set the thermostat to show or run the cooling/heating at a temperature offset to what it shows on the screen. They do call out this feature with this "It also comes in handy if you want your spouse to think it’s a particular temperature so he/she won’t keep adjusting the thermostat. For this instance, we suggest using this feature wisely" This is either deceitful or amusing, you decide.
Overall this thermostat is a reasonable value, and does the intended job well. I wish it looked a little more modern, but the features make up for some of that. I would recommend it.

You cannot trigger a still while actively taking video. You can grab frames from the 5.4k video after the fact, but you have to stop recording and switch modes to take stills/video.

iPod connector for 2005 Volvo XC90?
One of my collegues at work mentioned that he had Best Buy install an iPod adaptor to his 2004 Volvo XC90 (problematic for most of us owners as the radio user fiber optics, MOST system). I have a 2005 XC90, but the radios are the same. He had thought it ran him about $130 when he Best Buy did it a year or two ago. I have a local Best Buy that I can bring my car to and have this done as well, but I thought I would ask the question first of Best Buy online and understand what unit they offer for this connectivity and how it's installed. Please advise! I'd like to do this within a week... I miss having iPod connectivity!! Chris
The 2005 Volvo XC90 DOES NOT have an auxiliary input, nor can you add one without an accessory like the GROM MST. That's the only way to plug in an ipod or anything to an XC90

I can tell you this projector works VERY well with direct overhead lighting, and it keeps up with sunlight okay. It's definitely not like the older deal breaker projectors that required the blinds closed.

I want to use HUE lights with this. Can I buy a 2nd Google Home for my 2nd floor so both floors can access Home to turn off/on lights? If my phone (synced to Home) is out of the house, will voice activation still work for the lights?
Google home will let you group and name the lights for each room. I don't believe they are intended to be used overlapping though. In fact you might confuse it with more than one connected to the same google account. The Google Home works without your phone at home, since it connects directly to the HUE account as well as the internet and wifi directly.
