Great portable scanner for papers, receipts, etc

As with most of us, even if you opt to receive most bills and paperwork by email, there is no such thing as a paperless society. Rather than having to store & save all this paper, this Epson portable document scanner can help by turning it into a digital file.
Setup is easy, just plug the scanner into a USB port on your computer (no power cable needed, adding to the portable aspect), download the software from the Epson site and you're ready to scan. It does color and black and white and everything up to a letter-sized piece of paper. Once it scans the document, it asks how and where you want to save it and that's it.
It's small enough to fit in a backpack or briefcase, so you can take it with you as needed.

A lot of newer laptops come equipped with this type of storage, make sure your laptop has the proper slot. You just put the drive in the slot and put in the single set screw to hod it in place.
You can use this drive as your primary or as a backup drive, however you want to configure your system. Samsung's Magician and Data Migration software helps set up the drive and copy your data from one drive to another.
Some retailers are coming out with external shells for these drives, so you can use them as external / portable hard drives.
All in all, lots of fast storage in a small package.

Light cordless vacuum with plenty of power

I chose this vacuum because it's light and cordless, perfect for using on stairs and in cars. It's very versatile, you can use it with a long tube for the attachments (it comes with 5 different attachments for different floor types and different sized areas) or you can use the vacuum with the attachments directly to make it a hand-held.
The dust receptacle opens pretty easily, then you twist the filter cartridge to remove it so you can dump all the dust/hair out. It comes with 2 filter cartridges and a separate attachment (not included as one of the 5 floor attachments) you can attach to the vacuum to suck dust out of the filter.
The company says the battery (one is included) lasts about 25 minutes on normal mode and 10 minutes on MAX (basically a turbo mode), which I found to be accurate. It has pretty decent power for a rechargeable.
The vacuum also comes with a rack you can mount on the wall if you want to hang it up when you're not using it. The power charger plugs right into the base of the vacuum and isn't part of the wall mount (in case you don't want to mount it).

Since I've gotten this toaster, I've made toast with different sizes of bread, English muffins and frozen waffles. It did a great job with all of them, toasting evenly on both sides. There is a digital countdown on the front of the toaster. No matter what darkness setting you select, it's a 2 minute countdown. The time is the same, but obviously if you set it darker, the heat will be stronger for those 2 minutes. There is a cancel button, so you can stop the cycle if you want to. There are also buttons for Defrost and Bagel. I was not familiar with the Bella brand prior to getting this toaster, but so far I'm impressed.

I've used APC battery backups for years, as well as other brands. This unit is smaller and sleeker than the usual models, so it will fit under a desk or inside an entertainment center. The unit has 5 battery backup plugs and 2 that are just surge-protected. It has a USB charging port, if you need to charge your phone, tablet or other device, which is very handy. I use these units for computers, my DVRs (so they don't reboot if the power flickers) and I've even used them for my mother-in-law's lift recliner, so she wouldn't get stuck in the chair during a power outage. It's an established technology, hasn't changed much over the years. This unit has a 5-foot power cord and also has notches in the side if you want to mount it somewhere with a couple of screws.

I haven't had an electric razor in many years, since I never thought they gave as good a shave. Now that I'm retired and don't shave as often, I thought I'd try one again.
This electric razor recharges in an hour or less (you can't use it plugged in, charge it then use it). You can use it in the shower, they just recommend not to submerge it in water. The grip is rubberized, so you can keep a firm grip on it.
I found that it gives a pretty good shave, even if you've got a few days worth of stubble. The attached flip-out trimmer works okay if you don't have a lot of things to trim, but if you want to use it a lot, you probably should get a dedicated trimmer (I've got a Philips trimmer and it works great).
Once you're done shaving, you can rinse the shaving heads in water and open the shaving head compartment to clean out the hair (you can rinse inside with water as well).
Easy to use and is great for home and travel.

I wanted to get a portable bluetooth speaker because I have an older truck and didn't want to invest in a new car stereo. With the speaker, if I'm going to be in the truck for a while, I can use my phone (or other device) to stream music to the speaker.
The sound quality is very good. The speaker seems to hold a charge for quite a while, plus you can always plug it into your charging port in the car if it gets low. If you push the "BATT" button on the speaker, the speaker will tell you what the power level is.
Setup is very easy, just download the Sony Music Center app, pair your device via bluetooth and you're good to go. You can either use music on your device or whatever music service you have.
Another bonus is that it's waterproof and lighter than I expected. Though it's light, it doesn't feel cheap or fragile. Good to know that if I spill a beverage around it, it won't kill it. Speaking of beverages, the speaker is designed to fit in most standard cup holders, so you can stand it upright.
All in all, it's exactly what I expect from Sony, a quality product.

This is my first nose hair trimmer, in the past I always just used a pair of blunted scissors (so I wouldn't cut the inside of my nose). It's easy to use, you twist the bottom battery compartment off to insert or replace batteries. It comes with a lithium battery (non-rechargeable), but you can use any AA battery.
The trimming head changes the same way, twist it to put on another head. There are heads for trimming nose hair, eyebrows and other facial hair. Very versatile and just one button for turning it on.
If you have massive amounts of unwanted hair, this may not be the product for you, since it's an entry-level product. But for basic needs, this is just fine.

Good gaming mouse with lots of customization

I've used lots of mice and trackballs, both for gaming and less-fun activities. This mouse is well-made, plenty of buttons and a great scrolling wheel.
The Swarm mouse software (that you download from the ROCCAT website) allows you to customize what each button does, how sensitive various settings are, load game profiles and even customize the color displayed on the mouse's logo and scroll wheel.
I played some games with it, both casual and some first-person shooters. The mouse was very responsive, though I find that the mouse itself is a little too smooth for my liking, made it hard to feel like I had a good grip on it. I like more of a matte or rubberized feel. The smoothness may go away with use.
All in all a good product.

Anti-virus, internet security & performance in one

I've used AVG products (free and paid) many times over the years. Their Ultimate package is perfect for my needs, since I can use it on my Windows computer, Android tablet and Android phone and it does anti-virus, internet security and keeps your device performing well. This particular suite covers 5 devices, you can purchase up to 10 if you have more devices.
Besides AV, this suite includes Tune Up (gets rid of unwanted files, optimizes drives, etc), a password manager and AVG's VPN (which I have used several times when traveling). The performance software cleaned out a lot of unwanted files, saving me space on my hard drives and phone & tablet.
All of these products are customizable and can be set to run automatically or whenever you choose. Updates are pretty often and the programs run in the background, not interrupting you when you're working.
All in all, a great suite of programs to keep your devices running well.
