Good for Virus Protection - Not Parental Controls

The Bitdefender - BOX 2 Smart Home Cybersecurity Hub is a solid solution for adding internet security to your entire home network. Initial installation is very simple and only takes a few moments. I ran into a bit of a problem because it turned out that my personal wireless router is one of the very few that does not offer AP or Bridge Mode settings. 2 of the 3 BOX 2 installation scenarios require this capability. This meant I needed to set up the BOX 2 as my primary router. It works fine in this mode and I had no problems. However, you may want to verify that your router DOES offer AP or Bridge Mode connectivity settings (again, most do).
Once set up, I was impressed with how it identified the devices on my network and automatically extended protection to them. For laptops and mobile devices, it wants you to install software locally on the device. This provides protection when away from your local network and is also necessary in order to implement Parental Controls.
Because of the hiccups I experienced, I needed to contact support. I found that, if you leave a message for a call-back, you will get a prompt response. If you continue waiting for phone support, you may lose patience before your call is answered. The call backs and email responses I received, however, were very helpful.
My primary complaints with the Bitdefender BOX 2 are:
- Parental Controls are not intuitive and I had to search the web to find out how to access and activate them.
- The filtering of inappropriate content works for individual sites but not for image or video searches. This issue is raised on the support forums.

Bottom-line: If your primary focus is internet security, this is a great solution for your local network and beyond. If your primary focus is parental controls, this is not the best solution. For parental controls, the options available with most recent smart routers are superior to what BOX 2 currently offers.

Solid Product for the Price

The Acer - 15.6" Chromebook is a solid entry for the price and runs the Chrome OS very well. The speakers are great for watching videos and movies. For music, the lack of a strong bass is more noticeable. The screen is adequate. The build is sturdy for being mostly plastic, but the size is a bit daunting with a wide bezel. That means it feels less mobile even though it's not quite as heavy as it looks. The addition of the HDMI port is a plus.
Remember that this is a Chromebook. It will handle Google apps and programs very well. It's great for browsing, handling email & social media, viewing photos, and watching videos. It will handle creating basic word-processing documents, simple presentations and other light-to-medium tasks. It's not made for producing feature-rich, media-instensive files.
All-in-all, this is a very solid product for the price-point. Especially if you're familiar with the boundaries of the system and it's intended usage.

Just What I Needed!

The Plantronics - Backbeat FIT 505 Wireless On-Ear Headphones are a big step up for me compared to my previous wireless headphones. I was a bit unsure of the smaller on-ear size as opposed to larger over-the-ear offerings. However, once I got used to it (mere minutes), I found them very comfortable.
The phones offer a good overall sound. I could hear very good separation of instruments with music and exceptionally clear voice tones with good background sounds with movies. My primary use is for watching videos and they’re great for that. For music, the vocals may come across too strong - although, personally, I appreciate that a lot.
The controls worked as expected and Siri integration was seamless.
My only wish is that they were foldable.
For me, the Backbeat FIT 505 headphones are just what I needed.

A specific-purpose printer exceeding expectations

The HP - Sprocket Plus Photo Printer is a great gadget for enjoying immediate print-outs of pictures from your phone. The design and construction is surprisingly solid, attractive and substantial. Initial set up was very simple, once the unit was charged. Mine needed a firmware update which, once installed, made occasional printing much more reliable.
The add-on stickers, frames, etc are easy to apply. I was especially intrigued by the ability to have information ‘embedded’ in the printed photo so that, when you scan it with the Sprocket app, it displays the info for you. When I used that feature, it showed me: 1) the photo in the context of my photo collection, 2) a map showing the location of the picture, 3) a wikipedia entry on the location or city, and 4) an AR-like 360º view of the location that scrolls as you move the phone. I was surprised at how much that last feature fascinated me. To see the setting of the picture brought back fresh memories of when it was taken.
As far as print quality goes, I had no expectations of a tiny, mobile printer producing framable quality prints. However, the quality easily beats old polaroids and instamatics - and I like the fact that the picture completely fills the print with no white border.
HP - Sprocket Plus Photo Printer is a specific-purpose printer that exceeded my expectations.

Attractive, though Pricey, Addition to Philips Hub

The Philips - Hue White Ambiance Wellner Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp is attractive (subjective, but I really like it) and offers a nice range of white light intended to facilitate the desired mood or response at the appropriate time.
The price is high for a bulb, glass globe and electric cord with no manual controls (other than to plug the lamp in or not). If you don't have a Philips Hue Bridge hub (required to control the lamp), then the initial investment does not justify this purchase alone. Because of this, I would not recommend it to a friend unless the price was significantly lower than at present.
However, if you've already invested in a Philips hub and are intentionally building a smart-home environment to add function and pleasure to your home, this would be an attractive addition.

Decent Watch and Activity Monitor with Features

The Epson - ProSense 57 GPS Heart Rate Monitor Watch is lightweight and comfortable, though larger than a fitness band. The monochrome display harkens back to early digital watches, but does communicate the essentials adequately. The key is taking time to learn how to use the companion app, along with the watch.
Like many similar offerings, the basic functions are quick and easy to access, but connecting with and taking advantage of the more sophisticated features requires time. GPS adds a key dimension to it's features and, along with the app, provides a nice variety of reports and feedback.
Although it will sync with phone notifications, don't expect it to replace your need to respond via the phone. It is not a smartwatch.
For someone looking for a decent, entry-level fitness tracker that doubles as a nice watch and serves up a few added features, this is a good choice.

The Complete Swiss Army Knife for PDFs

Acrobat Pro DC is the clear choice for those looking for a complete set of features when working with pdf files. Not only are the features there, but you know you can rely on them to work - thanks to the fact that Adobe is the creator of the pdf format.
However, if you don't need ALL of the bells and whistles, there are some other, feature rich, choices available that are steadily improving.
As a Mac user, my biggest beef with Acrobat Pro is the frustratingly unintuitive user interface that requires more clicks to get things done. As a result, the learning curve is larger with Acrobat Pro than with other programs. I so wish Adobe would revamp it's flagship programs with modern interfaces to match their power. Sadly, I'm used to this weakness with Adobe software and accept it as the trade-off required if you need the power of a complete feature-set. In that case, Acrobat Pro is the only choice offering the full toolbox.

Excellent Features with Helpful Guides

Photoshop Elements 2018 is Adobe's latest, consumer-level version of it's flagship photo editing program, Photoshop. Elements brings sophisticated editing abilities within reach of the novice and casual-user. The guides, tutorials and clearly defined levels of editing make it fairly simple to do cool things. I was able to accomplish a wide variety of effects without too much confusion and was pleased with the results.
As a Mac user, I continually find the Adobe user interface a puzzle. It is not as intuitive as I'm used to and, compared with most Mac programs, requires extra steps for many functions that aren't usually needed. It also does not integrate with the Apple Photos app - a big inconvenience. But, by now, I'm used to this Adobe quirk - though still mystified as to why it persists.
However, Adobe Photoshop Elements is still one of the best programs available for bringing a wide variety of solid photo-editing features within reach of average consumers. Although there are some new competitors in the Mac world, there's not really anything else that directly compares. A solid choice.

Extremely Easy to Install and Works Great

The Arlo - Pro 2 Security Camera System is an excellent, wireless security solution. I have the 2-camera version. I was able to set it up and test it in less than 30 minutes! The whole set-up process is ridiculously simple and I really like the flexibility of the magnet mounts. The free basic plan sends me notifications, emails, texts - whatever I choose. It already helped me confirm a problem with a door mechanism that wasn't working properly - when it opened, Arlo notified me (via the camera's motion sensing feature) and I was able to look on my app and see what had happened!
For some reason, there is a longer lag time between live action and video image than other systems I've used. But that's only a matter of about 5 seconds lag.
Though not inexpensive, compared to traditional security solutions the Arlo Pro system is a DEAL!

The Dirt Devil - Reach Max Plus Bagless Cordless Stick Vacuum is a wonderful, time-and-effort-saving device. The various configurations are easy to switch out and the ease of using it without a cord is a delight. The suction strength of this unit is better than other units I've used. I also found the attachments to be more powerful as well (and this is at a price much lower than competitors).
All-in-all, this is an excellent, portable, lighter-duty vacuum which stands at the front of it's class.

Apartment use. Currently have a TimeWarner modem router and an extender in living room. parts of living room are slow and gaps. will these replace the modem router and will range be better?
I had a similar set-up as you describe. You will still need the modem function of your modem router to supply the internet signal from TimeWarner, but if you connect via ethernet from your existing modem router to the ORBI system, you should get a stronger system and better speed. I'm not with TimeWarner, but I had purchased and was using a modem router. After installing ORBI as described above, the strength and speed of my signal increased measurably. Remember that the wifi cannot make the speed greater than what arrives via your provider, but a better system, such as the ORBI, can bring the wireless signal closer to the actual ethernet speed. That's what it did for me.

So if it comes with two, I'm assuming you have one that internet is linked to by cable and the other is used as a extender? Or do you have to have both units hooked to cable?
You are correct. There is the Router unit, which must be connected by ethernet to your cable or dsl provider, and there is the Satellite unit which connects wirelessly with the main Router unit and extends the same signal with the same wifi name.

Will this product cover a 2000 sq. ft., one level house with only one (1) WiFi Name? The reason for this question is I'm currently using an extension to my router which has given the front of the house a different wifi name from the back of the house.
Yes. That's one of the advantages of this system versus a basic range extender, with the ORBI it's all the same wifi name. Plus, if you desire, you can pick up the satellite unit and move it according to you needs. It only takes 1-2 minutes for it to reconnect with the main router.
