Great Concept but Poor Implementation

The idea of a kit that can bring a non-techie car into the age of tech was attractive to me. The Rand McNally OverDryve 7 looked like the perfect solution. But it has some fatal flaws: 1) The instructions give generic directions without detailed illustrations. It was not hard to guess if I had it right, but left me a little insecure. 2) The biggest problem is that the hardware options for attaching the tablet and tech to your dashboard simply did not work for me. There is a special stand with a suction cup bottom that can either be attached to a bean-bag like weight, or a special smooth mounting plate with a peal-off adhesive to stick on your dashboard. I tried both solutions and neither worked. The bean-bag did not have sufficient weight to counter-balance the tech so it wobbled on the edge of falling over (even when I set it at a slant to help it). The smooth mounting plate also did not have enough 'hold' to balance the tech and it simply would not stay fixed to the dashboard. 3) Because of #2, there was not a solid, stable stationary mounting for the tablet which made using it while driving very precarious, at best. Although I used it in order to give it the benefit of the doubt, it was dangerous and frustrating. 4) The previous problems made it difficult to completely assess the tablet tech. It may be that, with a good solid mounting, it would be more usable. However, I personally found the tech much more of a distracting and frustrating experience than simply mounting my iPhone on the dash, even though the table has a larger screen. This was because: a] The Navigation system depends on the internet connection of my iPhone hotspot, which had to be re-connected each time I left the car and returned to it. b] The bluetooth connection with Siri worked intermittently in that it was not optimal for Siri to understand my requests via the tablet, and, when I asked for directions, I ended up hearing the OverDryve instructions on the tablet while hearing Siri's own, separate directions from the phone. The larger screen was nice for navigation, once it was on track. But that made it necessary for me to ask the OverDryve for directions - without letting Siri hear me.
I could go on with challenges with this system, but I won't. It still seems like there's a great concept there - it just isn't ready for prime time yet. The system paired with my iPhone well and played music and presented text messages and other phone functions well. It is Android based and so it may well work much better with an Android phone. I hope these issues are corrected in a future version. For now I would definitely pass.
One thing: It comes with free installation via Geek Squad at Best Buy. It's possible they could do something to fix the mounting problems.

Simple and Powerful Signal Booster

The Linksys MacStream RE7000-AC1900 Wall Plug Range Extender is amazing. With it's cutting-edge technology it does it's job of extending my wifi signal excellently and with no loss in speed. But what I like best is how simple and quick it is to install. The companion app shows you the best locations to plug it in as you walk through your home or office and from there it's virtually a matter of plug-and-play.
In my case, I'm pairing it with the LINKSYS EA9500 MAX-STREAM™ AC5400 TRI-BAND WI-FI ROUTER which it is especially suited for extending because both routers have state-of-the-art MU-MIMO technology.
Very pleased with it and couldn't be happier with it's no-brain installation.

Excellent and EASY to set up

This is, by far, the best and most powerful wireless router I have used. The power and tech is cutting-edge and just works. That is impressive, but since I've used a few routers, I expected it to work well. Besides the new specs, 3rd channel and cool tech, this is what I was most impressed with: IT WAS SUPER EASY TO SET UP. I was actually surprised at how simple it was. I used the wireless browser option for initial set up and then an iOS app for tweaking. I had no problems and the app and software were much more user friendly than I remember from past experiences.
Currently I'm using it as an extension to a wifi network via ethernet in a large building so my office and others have solid signal. With this router, the wireless speed virtually matched the ethernet speed! My next step will be to make this the main router and use the Max-Stream AC1900+ extender for my location (I'll review that when I do).
The only down-side to this router would be it's size and 8 antennas. It is a monster and not a subtle presence. So, if you don't want people asking "Does it fly?" (as in a 'drone'), or just doing a basic "woah!" at it's awesome techiness, you'll need to find a discreet location for it.
Bottom-line: I like the tech, it works - very well, and it is EASY to set up and manage.

I got it a few weeks back, hooked it up, and started using it. I like the overall look and feel and the thin design. Like most monitors, using the hardware buttons to access and use the menu is a challenge. But, since I rarely have to do that once it's set up, I don't mind. Great Specs but Limited Application

I'm an Apple guy and love their products. It was time to upgrade my very old Apple Express wifi hub which was extending my Netgear wifi router which is hooked up to my broadband modem. I use the Express to extend the network and to print to my HP 1012 laser printer. After getting Apple's LATEST PRODUCT, I discovered that it is only rated to extend an existing network from an Apple router - i.e. Extreme or Express. It dos not work with any other routers. This means my very old Airport Express is more friendly than the latest Extreme. After experimenting with a few options, I returned the Airport Extreme and am still using the older Express. Go figure.

Apartment use. Currently have a TimeWarner modem router and an extender in living room. parts of living room are slow and gaps. will these replace the modem router and will range be better?
I had a similar set-up as you describe. You will still need the modem function of your modem router to supply the internet signal from TimeWarner, but if you connect via ethernet from your existing modem router to the ORBI system, you should get a stronger system and better speed. I'm not with TimeWarner, but I had purchased and was using a modem router. After installing ORBI as described above, the strength and speed of my signal increased measurably. Remember that the wifi cannot make the speed greater than what arrives via your provider, but a better system, such as the ORBI, can bring the wireless signal closer to the actual ethernet speed. That's what it did for me.

So if it comes with two, I'm assuming you have one that internet is linked to by cable and the other is used as a extender? Or do you have to have both units hooked to cable?
You are correct. There is the Router unit, which must be connected by ethernet to your cable or dsl provider, and there is the Satellite unit which connects wirelessly with the main Router unit and extends the same signal with the same wifi name.

Will this product cover a 2000 sq. ft., one level house with only one (1) WiFi Name? The reason for this question is I'm currently using an extension to my router which has given the front of the house a different wifi name from the back of the house.
Yes. That's one of the advantages of this system versus a basic range extender, with the ORBI it's all the same wifi name. Plus, if you desire, you can pick up the satellite unit and move it according to you needs. It only takes 1-2 minutes for it to reconnect with the main router.
